Another look at SSF4's alt. costumes, select screen
A new image showing a few of the additional alternative costumes in Super Street Street Fighter 4 has surfaced courtesy of the site game.watch.impress.co.jp.
Also, we get another look at the infamous character select screen for the game.

Anyone else think that the empty spot on the far right is for another Alpha character, like Rolento or Charlie? Because it seems to me like the 'new' character will be a boss (Hakan? Shadow?), going up in the top-middle area, leaving the 2 to the left for Dudley and Ibuki.

I dislike the positions they've given the characters in SSFIV.
If anything it should be more like this...

My one puts the characters into proper groups much better and akin to the series way of outlining the relationships, the original fails to do so to be quite frank!
The original doesn't even include "Random Select" gotta pay close attention to details if you want to set a proper example and use it to illustrate a point more clearly. Asymmetrical or symetrical. the real point of it all, is to group the character select screen appropriately, not to just plant them all over that place and call it art? As it is now, the official one is just Capcom's way of being too 'random' methinks and have just plonked them in random bunched-up groups with no real merit or thought.

You seem to have missed it, but random select is present in the original. It also puts characters from the same series in their respective groups.

Don't even try to be funny, i meant on 21# example placing etc of the official SFIV screen. But if you think the official one is balanced placing thats your call not anybody else's.
But then ask yourself Ryu has Juri below him and Guile below her etc? Why are Juri and Hakan apart, new characters should be placed together. M.Bison's ahead of Sagat, Vega ahead of Balrog? (i.e. random business) *nah man*, and why on earth are the SF4 bosses in the middle? Sorry but thats not well thought out placing in anybody's book simply your own opinions.
I'll make another post and explain my re-positioning, and then you'll see why the SSFIV select screen could be done up differently.

#21 obviously missed placing the random select, but it IS present in the screen.
Hakan and Juri mirror each other because it's a design pattern. It could possibly even be story related.

Simply put, SF2 characters grouped into two rows. First 2 represents Ryu, second E.Honda, Blanka and Guile follow suit behind Honda. So with that in mind, on the second row Ken, Chun Li, Zangief and Dhalsim follow suit on the second row, thus below the Ryu are the original SF2 characters.
The 4 S's represent the the SSF2 new challengers, Fei Long, Cammy, T-Hawk and DeeJay. Above them are Shadoloo but in the order of Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M.Bison next to each other (i.e. the order you faced them, in SF2). Personally i did switch the SSF2 ones with the SF2 Shadoloo bosses, guess it came down to choosing spots to make them seem right in the end though. SF4 characters are at the bottom lefthand side, in the order of Abel, C.Viper, Rufus and El Fuerte along the New SSF4 ones (Juri & Hakan) which is FAR more logical spacing on the select screen. The Alpha characters can be in any order you like?. the 3 SF3 character would naturally be in the order of their eventual announcement i reckon (possibly) but for arguement sakes they'd be; Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley. Then we'd come to the 3 SF4 bosses. Bosses should ALWAYS have the corner of a select screen! (its just that way).
With "Random Select" at the side between two Alpha's above and at the left side and a SF4 boss below.
That makes alot more sense!

If you look closely you can see a silhouette of the characters that are in the blacked out boxes. It could just be my imagination but in the group of 3, the right box, head seems very upright and facing straight toward you, looks like a classic dudley shot. The left one you can see the head faces -> and there looks to be strand of hair (ibuki's bangs on the right side of the pic and her ponytail on the left side). Look closely see if you agree.

With regards to Gen’s new costume, most people claim Gen is shirtless. That is a fair assumption as it is quite obvious. However, how do we know that Gen is not entirely nude? Hell, maybe Capcom has him running around fast all the time to hide his junk, or maybe they have like a Tasmanian devil tornado on his lower half. The point is, nobody knows yet.
P.S. Is Ken smoking a cigarette in that pic or is it just a piece of straw/hay?

After seeing some of the new alternates on that trailer a few weeks ago & here on this image, I can say with confidence that I won't be buying these.
Ken's alternate is him as a cowboy. REALLY?! It SHOULD be a Dante tribute. It's the least Capcom can do after excluding him from TVC.
Capcom can keep their alternate costumes AND their lackluster Collector's Editions. I'd rather a simplified color edit so then I could put Ryu in a black gi with a white headband AKA the Fierce Punch outfit from 3rd Strike. I'd pay TWICE the money for that feature than I would for these alternates.

Actually I like that alternate. I just think it would be cool to be able to knock the hat off under certain conditions. Like during a special with knockdown or ultras. Maybe give it a hitbox independant of Ken's. He can pick it back up by taunting while stood over it. Instead of a taunt, the "put on hat animation" plays. It seems more natural than being glued to his head at all times anyway.
Just musing over presentation. Nothing vital to gameplay anyway.
