Melty Blood wins Evo poll, MvC2 replaces BlazBlue
Melty Blood won the Players Choice poll for the Evo 2010 tournament, and BlazBlue was dropped from the lineup in favor of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the PlayStation 3.
While Street Fighter 3 Third Strike had some very vocal and passionate fan support, it failed to garner enough votes to be a tournament game this year.

Melty Blood should be some good variation to the game lineup. I'm pretty sure people were getting bored of 3rd Strike Ken, Chun and Yun matches.

Ugh, though I love portions of the fighting game community, this kind of stuff is why I hate the community as a whole. Oh yeah, let's keep the ugly baby idea of an all-girls tournament, and let's scrap BlazBlue. I'm not a big fan of Melty Blood, 3rd Strike, MvC2 or even BlazBlue, but Evo is a fan thing, and MvC2 is popular enough, as is, evidently, Melty Blood. But seriously, even with all its flaws, could they not include BB? There was a burgeoning community there that could probably hold its own. Hell, if we were going for pure popularity, why not include Smash?
In a way, I'm glad this came out now since I had been postponing making plans to go to Evo anyway. It's not that I don't want to go, it's just that this kind of nonsense really makes me not believe in the fighting game community anymore.

BB was dropped because nobody is playing it anymore. The game was leaked and the scene has moved on to the new game.

People that are complaining about them dropping BB need to catch up with the times. The reason they dropped it is because everyone that matters competativly is playing BBCS not BBCT. Since Evo couldn't run CS I am sure all the pro players would rather see a relavent game and not an old version no one wants to play.
To all the people complaining about Marvel/3S, just because you suck at the game is not a reason to hate on it. I think Marvel, 3S, CvS2, and Guilty Gear AC should always be in and on the big screen.

Dropping BB for MVC2 was a good idea. MvC2 is still way more hype, especially since it's release on XBL/PSN. Melty Blood though? I smell some BS shenanigans. I don't know many people, at least big names, that play the game. If Nana shows, he'll beast on everyone like he did during the BB tourney back at Evo2k9. The show up will be low, like it was for BB and the first year Soul Cal was put into Evo.

They dropped Blaz because Dustloop decided that BB:CT was the terrible game it is and they're all focusing on BB:CS anyway. It would have most likely pulled the least amount of people. If you want to blame somebody, blame Dustloop.

MvC2 is boring, same teams every year, at least with 3rd Strike the fights are interest, MvC2 is just who can get the first combo and assist characters out to setup there infinites and loops or whatever. Melty blood dont know how that crap won...no one is gonna watch that crap. Super SF4 and Tekken 6 will be the highlights..maybe Vf5 should have been on there. And why remove blazblue, that just totally discredits the game its only been out a year by the time of Evo 2k10...thats f***ing Whack.

Not to just pick on you but lets get this straight in a game that has over 25 characters and has a tournament that only has you picking 5 characters is a failure as far as balance goes plan and simple. realy how can you not get a little angry seeing the same freaking teams come up again and again while you sit their knowing that their is countless different ideas that you could be seeing instead of the same crap.

MvC2 has the Hype that BB wont ever have. MvC2 made EVO for a reason. Yea seeing the same team over and over is wack but the reason you watch it is to see the battle of the MvC2 gods (Sanford, Justin, Yipes). BB dosent have people getting off there seats and screaming there lungs out. Plus BB:CT isnt balanced, who wants to see Nu vs Nu in the finales. BB:CS is balanced better but thats not whats in the tournament is it.

The Dustloop forums pretty much agreed that Calamity Trigger should be removed from the lineup since most of the community has jumped ship to Continuum Shift, which Evo has no feasible way of running. Apparently the Melty Blood community bombarded the poll, which would explain how that game won the poll. There'll be a good number of modded PS2s at this year's Evo.

come on now, thats clearly some kind of shenanigans with counter hits considering theres a whiffed super before the 2 hit kill. it will probably happen in tourney play as often as the SF3 one hit kill KKZ as akuma.
look at the other combos, stupid restrictive damage scaling going on, some hits actually look to deal no damage.

not that it will make all that much difference for those who hate melty blood, but the game that will be on evo is actually "Melty Blood Actress Again" (appeared in 2008) the video that was post on post #81 is ReAct(appeared in 2005 if it was the ReACT Final Tuned version) version. So only 1 char has an infinite combo, so if they only ban that char from the game, there still are ~60 chars

Blazblue was dropped because it was still CT, Most of the players have already moved on to CS so that is okay.
Melty Blood has been very popular in Japan so its is nice to see it in a U.S Tourney.
Overall I think this year EVO still is going to be great none the less since SSF4 and Tekken would be the main event anyway.

Anyways, everyone has their opinions about what they like/dislike.
While I don't play any of these games, I'm generally a fan of moving forward in terms of games, almost solely because it encourages developers to make new ones. ST, 3S, MvC2 all have their fans and supporters (and for good reason), but MvC is the newest of the three and it just hit the 10 year mark. HDR may be a new version, but I wonder if ST would still be around even if HDR was never made.
I'm a bit disappointed in BlazBlue's decline in popularity because I think it marks what new franchises have to face, but MB:AA gives me hope.
I'm sure every game will be at Evo (after all, even Smash is there). It just won't be a main event. Even if it isn't, Evo is just the biggest fighting game event in the U.S. It is most definitely not the only one. Don't overestimate the decisions that the tourney makes.

I love how everyone here is bitching and moaning when it was the capcomfags that couldn't come together themselves, which was the reason why Melty Blood won in the first place.
Mind you 3s and cvs2 were both near the top, except everyone was too busy fighting over "OMG MVC2/CVS2/3S/ETC." that the MB fans actually came together and won it. Cry moar.
And the BB fans themselves gave it up due to nobody wanting to play the old version and them, themselves knowing it would not even be hype. I bet half of the ill-informed folks here didn't even vote, but still somehow know how to cry and moan.
I hear there's delicious salt water in the rivers this time of year. lulz.

Okay, so three things.
1. Melty Blood won because it got the majority vote. If you have a problem with that, you are in the minority.
2. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift got cancelled because almost nobody wanted to play in it. You may want to watch it but there is nothing to see.
3. MvC2 got in mostly on the merit that it was re-released on console recently. It didn't get fourth officially like some people said. A lot of fraud led to second, third and fourth place being a virtual tie.

I remember playing melty blood, i remember that game was awful, and yes i did vote i voted for 3s it would be nice to see a very technical game at evo but SSF4 is there so its no big deal. But for BB to get replaced with a more broken piece of crap...sorry wrong word a Shattered piece of crap is ridiculous BB may be 1 char dominant but its better than MVC2 ever could be. To those whom are going ill be playing Tek6 and SSF4.

@ #119: Meltyblood has as many revisions as SFII did. (Probably more.)
If you played the first one or even react, you're far behind with how much the series improved coming up to MBAA. As for the folks complaining about BB being replaced with MVC2. MIND YOU, the BB slot was not a PLAYER'S VOTE. Only the one that MBAA won, was. BB players didn't care for having that slot in evo this year because all the serious players moved onto the next installment. Thus, MVC2 got the spot since it's very much still the most hype out of CVS2 and 3s and generally has the most surprising upsets at it's tournaments. (Unlike 3s and CVS2.)
You can complain about it if you want to, but you can't really deny how hype folks get when you see a gathering for a MVC2 round. Hell, the only thing people were worried about with MVC2 is that it won't be on the Dreamcast anymore and if new seeds come from Online play, to this tourney, this'll make it all the more interesting instead of the same old same old in 3s and cvs2.

the only thing i have to say is that 3S is very technical when MVC2 is not i learned to play and win consistantly with team scrub with their infinites its a fun game but as for competition goes it should never be played for seriousness. i wont be playing MBAA so i dont care 3S had a good run anyway it was in evo for years upon years

TBH, I love BB, but I understand why it couldnt be a main this year. But its the best 2D fighter out IMO.
Never heard of/played Melty Blood (wtf is an 09er? what like newfag? what is this 4chan?)but based on what Ive seen, first combo wins and to hell with any sophisticated fighting engine. With that said it still looks 10000x better than MvC2 Mirrors get old folks, sometimes you need to know when to stop.
