Tatsunoko vs. Capcom wave dash glitch
Nyoronoru noted that Smurvis discovered a dash glitch bug in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars that lets you extend your dash to huge lengths, i.e. perform a wave dash, this video doesn't have any sound.
Multiple people have said you can pull this off by doing a toward, toward and then up-toward tap on the joystick, but you have to let the joystick return to neutral each time. So, it'd be toward, neutral, toward, neutral, up-toward, neutral.

Considering I play with local friends this won't be a problem for me. I'd hate to see people online take advantage of it though.

not a glitch, just a new added element to the game engine

I doubt folks would ever try this in any tournament. Too much time trying to even get it to work. THe video looks sped up IMO.

Holy crap. I don't know how easy it'll be to input that in the right timeframe but it looks like this has the potential to pretty powerful.

Posted by udub on February 5, 2010 at 3:38 p.m. #9
Isn't really a wavedash, at least not by the definition I know. A wavedash is where you move along the ground in a non-dashing, non-recovering animation (so you're moving, but your standing moves come out at their normal speeds, not the modified speed/moveset you normally have while dashing). Melee's wavedashing (probably the most "famous" type), specifically, is performed by air-dodging into the ground -- it cancels the landing animation but your forward momentum carries you; this allows you to jump and wavedash again (allowing for the quick back-forth motion used in many of the mindgames and movement strategies at the high level), or use any other move, without the normal penalty frames of landing. I can't tell from the video whether the person was in a dash/running animation or not (not familiar enough with TvC myself, tbh), but it looked like it.
But really, that's just semantics. This style of "super dashing" (or whatever you want to call it) does seem very useful -- depending on your read of your opponent, you can quickly cancel into it (it'll take practice, but really, it's three inputs rather than the normal two of a dash in most games, it shouldn't be /too/ hard to adjust). Seems like it has potential to level up gameplay in TvC, it'll be cool to see what people do with it.

This glitch isn't as hard as the video makes it out to be. The only characters that can't perform it in some form are Gold Lightan and Morrigan.
Also, its pretty fun, and I can't wait to see how it will affect the game.

The first thing that went threw my mind was Wave Dash but it is different. Still kinda CHEESE MODE in my opinion. I am sure they could patch it if they wanted to. But Capcom has a hard time patching finished games, because they want people on the same level no matter how good or bad it is. Whoopie Goldburg!!!!

When was the last time Capcom cared enough about patching that they would do something to fix bugs, tweaks, and obvious OP imbalances? Especially considering you're talking about the Wii whose online support is decent at best =/

Its a fact, capcom testers suck. If they really wanted to have a dash that brings u across the screen it would have been put in the game. I dont want to here about "it adds a new aspect to the game", its not intended gameplay and is a bug.
Posted by Yikes on February 5, 2010 at 7:21 p.m. #24
Looks like Dragonball Z in there. Whoosh.
They had better patch it and get rid of that. Chickenwings is correct that it is clearly not intended, it's the sort of thing that would quickly factionalize online players. Fighting games on the Wii don't need this problem.
Posted by Vargr on February 5, 2010 at 7:23 p.m. #25
Maybe someone understands the mechanics behind this, but to me this looks like the player is jump-cancelling their first dash and then cancelling the startup frames of the jump with a second dash.

Posted by lol butthurt on February 5, 2010 at 7:53 p.m. #28
It just make rushdowns faster, for essentially 90 percent of the cast. It's not like it only benefits a certain type of character, i.e flying characters and triangle jumping or cable and the ahvb. It's a new mechanic that may be a bug, but it doesn't break the game. When an easy infinite or a frameless super is discovered you can bitch, but until then just calm your pussies down and adapt.

Posted by Balloon on February 5, 2010 at 10:24 p.m. #39
@juxtapose: I think you're a funny guy.
@chickenwings & dfe23: Unintended doesn't always mean bad for the game.
Capcom didn't intend for players in SF2 to be able cancel the ending frames of their normal moves into a special, but it made the game better.
Negative edges, charge partioning, kara throwing, roll canceling, and option selects were all once "bugs" too. I'm not saying that games are awesome because of them, but (wait for it) the features add a new aspect to the game.
You wanna see an example of a company fixing their glitches? Ask Melee players why they don't play Brawl. Nintendo "fixed" that game.
The Smurvy dash may break the game, but it just as well may not. It's too early to tell one way or another.
Posted by Pete278 on February 5, 2010 at 10:31 p.m. #40
Imagine if Street Fighter had no cancelling at all. You guys forget how easily the fighting scene has developed from glitches that were obviously unintended. Before anyone goes 'yeah, but we're better now', we'll be better in the future. If a glitch turns out to be overpowered, or makes one character dominant, or anything, it should be removed. If it adds to the game, then its fine and should be implemented as a feature next time.
Posted by DeepTie on February 5, 2010 at 10:33 p.m. #41
I don't get you complainers. Do you complain about roll cancels and kara cancels too? How about SF4 armor cancels and or Gen's parry glitch? At worst these bugs sure could break the game but that glitch is pretty much open for any character to use and all it does is a full screen dash. It's not like games haven't had something like that before (Guilty Gear and KOF-series with a run-function).
I bet you are the same people who can't play Devil May Cry with jump cancels and parry cancels because "they are glitches and break the game" when all they do is make the game more interesting and deep.

@38: lol retard. they did have this game at SBO when it was arcade.
also for other retards here that don't know sh*t except how to complain: mvc2 has bugs 100x worse than this and is still crazy fun and competitive. cvs2 was booooring until rollcancel, which is like the worst glitch ever. glitches like this make games better 9x out of 10, not worse.

looks like the arcade version of continuum shift has been cracked
the taito type x 2 has been broken?
if so then it wont be long before the proper arcade version of sf4 is available!
oh man, the possibilities, especially reversing the nesys stuff...
Posted by shinygerbil on February 6, 2010 at 3:05 a.m. #49
actually I don't think you *have* to return to neutral after the last input. I do 6,6,9~6. It only works when you hold the 9 for a very short length of time - if you hold it too long you end up jumping, of course.
AND for all you moaners bitching about this mechanic/glitch/bug/whatever....shut up and learn to do it, then go away and play with it, then come back once you know something about it. Oh wait, you're all just butthurt because you can't pull it off and you think that's "unfair".
Well...it's not.
Firstly, it's not character-specific (Lightan and Morrigan are the only ones who cant, and it's not very useful for Tekkaman Blade or Roll either) so it's still a fairly level playing field.
Secondly, it's only been a few days maximum since this has been discovered. So *IF* this thing becomes a regular part of gameplay, it's likely that people's strategies will, in time, change and adapt to incorporate this new technique. For all we know, this will end up being useless or negated by some other technique or whatever.
tl;dr: you're all whiny bitches lol.
also @49: ooooooooollllllldddddd nnnnnnneeeeeewwwwwwsssss

looks like a good way to catch your opponent napping. makes the game into a RTSD or very defensive game, since youre either doing this or looking to block it. given the nature of VS series titles, its going to end up being RTSD.
