MvC2 pulled in $4.2 million in 2009 on XBox Live Arcade
According to the new research group, Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, the re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 grossed $4.2 million on XBox Live Arcade.
This is a pretty nice number considering it's not factoring in the game's simultaneous release on the PlayStation 3 and that it was a rehashed title which didn't require a full development cycle.
Capcom has said a few times that MvC2 had an impressive performance as far as sales went, and these numbers certainly back that up.
With these kinds of figures, you can bet we'll be seeing more re-releases in the future. Here's how the top 10 played out for 2009.
1. Battlefield 1943 - $12.5 million ($15.00)
2. Castle Crashers - $7.3 million ($15.00)
3. Trials HD - $7.1 million ($15.00)
4. Shadow Complex - $6.1 million ($14.38)
5. Family Game Night - $4.2 million ($9.53)
6. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - $4.2 million ($15.00)
7. Magic: The Gathering - $2.8 million ($10.00)
8. Worms 2 - $1.8 million ($10.00)
9. Peggle - $1.8 million ($8.86)
10. Turtles in Time: Reshelled - $1.7 million ($10.00)

If it grossed $4,200,000, and each copy was $15, then that means it sold about 280,000 copies, not bad for a game that's 9 years old.

I would rather see a HD darkstalkers and or a X-men vs Street fighter in the way SF4 looks. Still my favorite tag game. I would buy a SF3 game if it was updated with HD graphics. Capcom could reboot every game it has ever had with HD graphics done by Udon and make trillions of dollars. AS well as pumping out SF4 style graphics for the same game and make a couple more Trillion dollars. Hey Capcom maybe you guys could get america out of Debt.

Unfortunately, Darkstalkers HD is probably not gonna happen because it was more used to test the aerial rave system and stuff.
I want SF3:3S and CvS2 with filters and online (similar to MvC2). Sure it's a bit lazy and underwhelming, but i dont really care if its these awesome fighting gems; other games i understand, but fighting games are different, in a way.

I'm pretty sure capcom would anyway make a profit with a rerelease of third strike. Maybe not as big as mvc2 but development costs are so low it wouldnt really matter.

I'm sure TvC was a dry run for MvC3. I want to see 3rd as DLC, there could be a revival in that game as many people missed out on SF3 all together when 3D was starting to blow up. I wouldn't mind seeing the first 3 VS games re-released. MSHvsSF has the best announcer of all time. DON'T MISS THE MOST EXPLOSIVE TAG TEAM FIGHTING GAME EVER!!!

#rd strike would definitely sell more than CvS i mean how many people do you hear asking for this compared to 3rd strike. And the production cost to produce MvC3 would be a big risk instead of just porting 3rd strike.

Where is your proof that 3rd Strike wouldn't sell? You're taking the word of EventScrubs 3rd Strike haters that have never even played the game or sucked at it and got their ass handed to them because they're not good enough, that's why.
3rd Strike has it's following, and that following is certainly big enough to warrant a release. Sure, you can play it on GGPO (3s is easily the most popular game on GGPO even surpassing Super Turbo. Fúck KoF, that doesn't count.) but you could also play Super Turbo on GGPO and that didn't stop Capcom from releasing it on consoles.

i no that 3rd strike is a good game it is 1 of my fav sf gams but the fact is capcom are not releasing the game the becuase of the lack of interest fair enough that it as following but that is probaly not big enough a lot of pes left the series when sf3 came out while the release of sf4 bought back interest back as fan came back so from that there cud be a interest but i am not so sure but i wud like to see it happen

3s only appeals to hardcore fighting game players, it's true that alot of people suck at that game because it has too much depth and no appeal to casual gamers. MVC2 only does well cause casual gamers go "OMG I WANT TO FIGHT AS RYU AND COLOSSUS AND OMG VENOM IS IN IT!!!111ONE". For 3s most of which already play on ggpo or 2df for free right now, so why do it?

actually not every copy of marvel was sold at $15, it was on sale for a grip for 560 xbox points, which is roughly 1/2 of the original price. so factor that into copies sold.
as far as 3s being released, it wont happen anytime soon from a business standpoint. they already have HF, Umk3, MvC2 and HDR as downloadable games. thats just enough for fighting games OGs and fans to buy all of them at once. if there were like 5 more games (Cvs2, 3s, CE, marvel 1, whatever else you guys request) people would be more likely to pick and choose instead of downloading them all.
Most xbox cards hold 1600 points.
HF - 400
HDR - 1200
Marvel - 1200
Umk3 - 400
Wow thats exactly 2 cards worth of points. accident? no. smart marketing? yes.
Basically what this means is there is a fighting game specific market and they understand and aknowledge it.
Also they dont want to put all their eggs in one basket, they need to save some games to be released on the next console. its all about spreading it out to keep you interested. same concept as haveing a TV show on once a week instead of every day. it would just get played out to fast and not hold long term interest.
Fact is, they will release 3s and cvs2 in the future. its not about making a few bucks on it now, its about makin alot of bucks on it later.
People dont understand this sh-t and they just need to shut their f-ckin mouth and leave it to the smart people, frankly.

i think instead of 3rd strike capcom cud do an edition like sf2 anniversary edition where all the wersion of the sf2 characters were avalable i think with using this method for sf3 it cud make it beeter and even cud make the game more balanced as u cud play with powerfuller version of each chracter 4 example like sean ibuki and ryu who were if i am coreect more useful in NG and 2nd impact and weaker i 3rd strike so this way there cud be player playing with ryu sean and ibuki by doing this rather than peps always playing with yun( if that is the right twin i keep forgeting) and chunli however this might be expensive and time consuming but it's just a thought and what do peps think of this idea is it gud or stupid cuz it's just a suggestion and i think a gud 1
