TvC hits #6 spot on UK sales charts

TvC hits #6 spot on UK sales charts

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars hit the #6 spot on the United Kingdom sales charts for the Wii.

Unfortunately, they do not list the total number of units sold, so it's difficult to tell exactly how well this did, but it's a respectable opening week regardless. Here's the top 10.

1. Wii Sports Resort
2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
5. James Cameron's Avatar: The Game
6. Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
7. Your Shape
8. F1 2009
9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
10. FIFA 10

Sales chart from the ELSPA.

it's being beaten by avatar the game, and mario and sonic winter games. this title is dead in the water

Posted by It's a me? on February 2, 2010 at 9:57 a.m. #2

I'm surpised Mario kart is still doing so well lol..
And wondering why Wii sports Resort and Avatar: the game are in the top 10..they're both mediocre at best.

TvC should be in the top 3!

Posted by Ouch on February 2, 2010 at 9:59 a.m. #3

Ouch, it looks pretty bad.

Posted by Harima on February 2, 2010 at 10:11 a.m. #4

Well Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and Wii sports resort are hardcore competitive games and they are going to be the main attraction at Evo

Posted by Gief_Mobile on February 2, 2010 at 10:17 a.m. #5

This isn't a bad opening week, but it's not a great one either. I'd say it's solid, but the coming weeks will really tell the story here and I want to see how things went in other countries, UK matters for sales, but not that much.

Posted by Yattaman on February 2, 2010 at 10:21 a.m. #6

Is the UK somewhere in the United States?

Posted by Nyoronoru on February 2, 2010 at 10:24 a.m. #7

I wouldn't take this too much to heart; I want to see actual numbers.

Posted by Queza on February 2, 2010 at 10:38 a.m. #8

UK is ALWAYS dominated by casual Wii games, dont panic.

Posted by Kaiser on February 2, 2010 at 10:39 a.m. #9

Well the casual wii markets going to be hard to crack, factor out the people buying the 1st party games that everybody buys and the movie tie in games that unbelievably still get bought despite guarenteed mediocrty and I guess it diddnt do that bad, Still releasing the same week as Mass Effect 2 and MAG couldnt have helped it

Posted by zombiebrian on February 2, 2010 at 10:41 a.m. #10

we never get numbers these days, you can put a positive spin on it Mario Kart and other games have seen reductions here recently but tbh only two stores i know of stock tvsc and they are in the high street. Chances are multiformat chart this isnt even in the top 20 GC will know at the weekend.

I really do like the look of the game but it on the wrong console im not buying a wii (borrowing my mums) another stick and the game just cause they put it on the wii

Posted by Ryan D. on February 2, 2010 at 10:43 a.m. #11

Actually, that's not too bad. Still holding my breath until we get some real numbers, but considering that the only titles above it are Nintendo titles (or games with movie tie-ins, or with "Mario" in the name), there might be some hope yet for TvC.

I've got my fingers crossed. Let's hope for some good news when the real numbers come out.

I am begging u to bring this frenchise to either to the xbox 360 or the ps 3 !

Posted by no more Vs games? on February 2, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. #13

it seems bad since alot of old games are beating a new game...including a movie based game.

Capcom won't take any blame and will use these bad sells as an excuses not to develope any more vs games.

Despite the fact the developers made the game with developer favorites in mind over fan favorites. This game was not made to attract fans but only to please a niche audience.

No Resident Evil chars, no Devil May Cry, Ghouls n Ghost,

And probably the the most and maybe only char recognizable in the west. Speed Racer.

Capcom has a stick up their butt on who they add in their fighting games and only listen to their own staff(suggestions) oppose to making a game to attract everyone.

If this game does bad even "decent" (if a game isnt huge success it's a failure to capcom) then they wont make any more.

Just look at SF2 HD remix they put some money(hand drawn sprites) into and it did well but then Capcom don't want to work hard just to make barely a profit. They want to work little and make a huge profit. That's why these new re-released games with online features are nothing new other than "Filters with a tacted online modes.

Also i know alot of capcom fanboys would be defending capcom but they ported TvC to us because fans demanded it!!!

Well it's more like SF4 and SSF4. SF4 not being released in US while SSF4 was released later on but not that great of an update...while they still released a Japan version.

I personally don't believe that TvC wouldnt make the west without a japan release as well. I mean....it's not like it was overly demanding to make a game that's already made for a larger audience is it? But Capcom dropped the ball on alot of the character choices.

They pick the least popular Megaman...with like Tatsunuko having multiple reps from the same series, G-Force, Gatterman, Robo, and no Pizza Cats and No Speed. Good job Capcom

Looking good. I hope everyone buys this. 2-d fighters will never die. 3-d can go to the pits of hell.

remember its only one consol so yea im betting it hasnt hit 300K yet

Posted by MJ on February 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. #16

People act surprised that the top games are at those spots. Overall Mario tend to hog the top spots for months, even years.
And besides, this is only the first week sales.

Posted by Yoshi13 on February 2, 2010 at 11:06 a.m. #17

I'm pretty sure more people heard of Mario than Tatsunoko.

Wii generally being a more casual system compared to the PS3 or XBox360, is ought to sell more casual-like games. Not implying that Mario Kart Wii or Avatar doesn't have a competetive realm, I just think TvC has more competitive background than most games on that list.

Just a speculation.

Posted by ... on February 2, 2010 at 11:09 a.m. #18

I'm pretty sure TvC is like 37th overall, I saw the list somewhere.

Posted by Knute Rockne called it the forward pass on February 2, 2010 at 11:37 a.m. #19

I wouldn't want to invest in a stick for a console that has few fighters.

Posted by SCRUBTASTIC on February 2, 2010 at 11:40 a.m. #20

SCRUBTASTIC SAYS scrubs are never loyal i would buy it on ps3

Posted by 1 on February 2, 2010 at 11:44 a.m. #21

This is what happens when you put a game like this on a casual system. Casual games will beat it.

Posted by www on February 2, 2010 at 12:01 p.m. #22

this is a week to week sales figure..if games years old sold more weekly than TvC then how can TVC sell good in the long run. It was made for a niche audience in a casual core console..

Capcom won't want to pursue the series and just group us all as not interested instead of acknowledge their dumb decisions

Posted by shinygerbil on February 2, 2010 at 12:17 p.m. #23

haha i love all you guys who think you can do a better job than Capcom

go on, send them your CV

when they don't do what you want you complain that they don't listen to their fans

when they listen to the fans you complain that ssf4 is "fanservice-filled"

fact is, you as the fans don't actually know what's best. you just want them to make the game exactly as YOU want it. well i've got news for you. what you want wouldn't sell

seriously who was expecting tvc to outsell the big games. that would be ludicrous. Capcom will certainly understand that tvc has niche appeal and will treat the sales figures accordingly. they certainly don't expect it to do better than modern warfare 2 for example.

Posted by genosuke on February 2, 2010 at 12:46 p.m. #24

They put it on the wii because the original arcade harware (the name escapes me) is basically the same as the wii, so the port was simple.

Even if it was for the 360, ps3 it would still have sold relatively the same. I mean most of that audience is still complaining that its overshadowing their Mahvel and saying "wtf is Tatsunoko".

On top of that the game is not good enough for most people for a straight up 360,ps3 title. And its probably too big of a game for a DL release

Posted by genosuke on February 2, 2010 at 12:47 p.m. #25

Meant to say that its too big of a game for a DL game for Capcom.

Posted by Balloon on February 2, 2010 at 12:48 p.m. #26

@Harima and Yattaman: lol

Top ten is definitely good news, but only if it holds for a few weeks.

@shinygerbil: Your Modern Warfare 2 analogy basically sums up my personal expectations of the game's sales. I wouldn't say it's completely a niche appeal (I agree it didn't have a lot of hype outside of fighting game fans), but yeah, there was no chance that it would top the charts.

I'm just disgusted at the games that are beating it. I'm surprised that games like Sports Resort and Mario Kart are beating it too (why are people still buying Mario Kart?!), but the fact that Avatar is beating it makes me downright sick.

@Wii haters + TvC haters: What ev. I'm playing TvC and it's a blast.

Posted by DOA on February 2, 2010 at 12:54 p.m. #27

The game didn't sell in Japan... why would it sell here?

It's a niche title on a console notorious for "Casual" games.

It's DOA.

Im just glad the US/UK got the game.

Posted by Maniman on February 2, 2010 at 1:37 p.m. #31

Its a shame that this game is gonna fail. Its really fun too.

The wii is only a success for Nintendo and no one else.

Madworld, Dead space Extraction, Zack and Wiki, these are all great games but they sold horribly. There is no hope.

Epic fail.

Posted by Marty on February 2, 2010 at 2:13 p.m. #33

Sadly it was 37th overall (the chart was on Kotaku, can't find the link). It didn't come out here (i.e. in the UK) until Friday though, so it only had 3 days to sell.

Posted by ? on February 2, 2010 at 2:51 p.m. #34

Why is this game on the Wii anyways

Here's my two cents... WHAT ARE THE ****ING ENGLISH THINKING!

Avatar the Game: SUCKS Mario and Sonic: SUCKS Wii Sports Resort: OVERRATED I can kinda see Mario Kart (I don't know why, it's like 2 years old now) and the new SMB, but the other games? In the words of James Rolfe, It's like WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? No, you what it is, it's because the Wii is a "Family" system, all those other games out sold TvC because they were bout for kids too young to know what a good game is.

Posted by wow on February 2, 2010 at 5:57 p.m. #41

There is nothing positive about that uk wii chart. Don't know if this reflects the Wii or tatsunoko negatively...

Posted by zb on February 2, 2010 at 6:09 p.m. #42

See here was i thinking it was the uk chart not the English chart, wonder how the game is doing elsewhere in the uk^

The wii is a kiddies toy here, Mario Kart has been halfed in price at Asda (wall_mart)kiddies dont buy things in terms of whats good gameplay wise.

TVC is a great game but its doomed to fail in the uk simply cause no one who already has a 360/ps3 is gonna splash out on a console/stick/game for one game and a crap network

Posted by sf4 gameplay is a slow turtle fest. on February 2, 2010 at 6:34 p.m. #43

Hopefully this gives Capcom the green light to make a game that is faster, MORE OFFENSIVE and more fun then SF4.

Posted by You are an idiot. on February 2, 2010 at 7:12 p.m. #44

#43

How would the incredibly poor sales of TvC make Capcom want to drop the multi million seller of SFIV? Why would they invest in future titles that will net them even less sales?

Do you have any concept of reality?

Posted by capcom on February 2, 2010 at 7:20 p.m. #45

That's why capcom doesn't listen to these morons. If they did, they would be in the same place Sega and Atari are...

Posted by sf4 gameplay is a slow turtle fest. on February 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. #46

@43

lol you're a moron. Low sales? The sales for TVC is good especially for a fighting game.

The next fighting game will be a faster more offensive game not slow and boring like SF4.

Darkstalkers or a new VS. Mark my words these will be one of the new fighting games from Capcom.

Every 3rd party Wii game is going to be beaten by casual Wii games. Usually the same ones that were there last month for how many months.

You guys never seen a Wii sales chart before?

TvC over FIFA though is good news, in the UK. Or does anyone know if soccer hooligans only play on PS3 or Xbox and are not casual hooligans?

Posted by Makoto on February 2, 2010 at 9:18 p.m. #51

I hope this game did well.

Instead of hoping to see people getting hyped over this game when I went to my Game stop to pick up the game on launch day, their were just a bunch of Ass Effect 2 Fans. I think I was the only one in the store to buy Tatsunoko.

Posted by Acku on February 2, 2010 at 10:21 p.m. #52

most commenters obviously havent seen much Wii charts, no. It's always like that, and boy, if you woild know how overall charts look like and how top PS3/Xbox titles get beaten out by Wii Fit and Mario Kart. hahaha. Worlds would crumble.

It's ok to land in that spot. Dont forget that that avatar game gets picked up by millions of parents looking for game. It rings a bell to them, TvC doesnt.

At least it got sold.

Its all downhill from here.
Capcom should learn from this, Resi Chronicles absolutely flopped as well. I love this game but unfortunately do not own a Wii. It is completely clear now that Wii is for parents and little kids only.. I was shocked that the most successful game of the decade was Wii Play - Says it all.
Still, I reckon MVCS will appear at E3

That's really not as bad as it looks. You guys clearly don't understand how the casual market works. The fact that it's almost right after the first party stuff is a good sign. It'll probably sell better than Blazblue.

Just so you guys know, the top 4 games are really popular to bundle with the Wii (I don't know about America, but Wiis here come bundled with Wii Sports Resort as standard now).

So what you're really looking at is the game of the BIGGEST SELLING MOVIE OF ALL TIME (yes I know we all know it has to suck, that's the gamer rule, normal people don't know that); just beating out TvC.

And that ain't half bad.

Besides without unit numbers this is kind of hard to call, and it's only week 1 people, sheesh.

Posted by This is doing well on February 3, 2010 at 3:36 p.m. #72

TvCUAS is new to release, and number 6.

In the UK, Mario and anything related to him is like, PROPER hype for the casual, nintendo players. Those games will always be top. As #71 said, the wii games themselves are basically counted, yet you don't technically buy them.

In the UK, many people buy the games which are based off of a good film in hordes. In my SCHOOL, nobody has heard of MvC, let alone TvC.

Yet it's #6. It does show that it's getting some serious sales.
