Two of Capcom's employees were burning the midnight oil answering questions from fans very early Monday morning on the Unity Boards. Will Capcom someday break these roster records?
1) Mortal Kombat: Armageddon: 64 characters
2) Marvel vs Capcom 2: 56 characters
3) Samurai Shodown VI: 52 characters
Sven: Some day maybe, but I don't think that will happen any time soon.
Seth: There's more to a great fighting game than a big roster, right? If you'd rather play MK: Armageddon or Samurai Shodown VI than MvC2, that's your funeral :D
What's up with the collector's edition for Super Street Fighter IV I keep hearing about? Will it be available in the West?
Seth: The only announcement about a collector's edition referred to Japan only. We're looking into what we can offer Western fans interested in something more than the base SSFIV package, but there have been no announcements about that yet.
People who bought Street Fighter 4 are supposed to get something special if they buy Super Street Fighter 4. Will this work if I bought SF4 on the PC and buy SSF4 on one of the consoles?
Seth: I haven't tested it explicitly, but I am pretty confident that it will not work. The bonus should be continuous only from one console to the same console. Sorry :(

T6 has gt 40 or so chars, and way more balanced. WTF Seth!!!
SSF4 better not be sH!T

Nope. Not at all.
Posted by anon on February 1, 2010 at 4:40 a.m. #5
man just announce the characters already, we know the game is basically done. Its coming out in 2 months. Why are they waiting so long?
Posted by Cheesus on February 1, 2010 at 4:43 a.m. #6
Oh please give us a collector's edition! SF is one of the very few series I'd buy (and did buy) a collector's edition for.
Posted by Jordan on February 1, 2010 at 4:44 a.m. #7
Agree with #1. Tell us what that damn bonus is. This better be a good bonus for once, not like that crap they pulled with the CE.

To all the people complaining about the characters not being revealed, chill. The second that information is available it's going to be here and on every other website on the internet. Until then, read the rumor list a million times. Almost everything there has been accurate anyway.

you can't blame capcom if pc games are easy as f*** to pirate
Posted by rthsrt on February 1, 2010 at 6:02 a.m. #12
@10
Yea, you can pirate easily on PC which is one of the major problems. Plus having a huge roster means more testing time. And time is money, do you have funds to balance out a 56 character roster? I don't think so.
Also you can pirate pretty easily on the Xbox as well.
Posted by Flambauche on February 1, 2010 at 6:13 a.m. #13
I don't see the point of having a huge rooster. Games with too many characters are either unbalanced or all the characters play the same.
Posted by Sairus on February 1, 2010 at 6:15 a.m. #14
@#13 Be prepared for the flood of Rooster jokes.
Posted by wc on February 1, 2010 at 6:15 a.m. #15
That's BS on PC extra not carrying over to console. Because you Capcom are discontinuing the sequel on PC and forcing fans like me to buy a 360 or PS3, people like me shouldn't have to buy the game over again for the extra.
Posted by tstvicentini on February 1, 2010 at 6:24 a.m. #16
its obvious..
if SSFIV doesnt come to pc.. i'll not buy a console. -The End-

i like big rousters. so many to choose from. so many to kick ass with. im all for it. if you go for it capcom, take time with it. dont rush. that leads to failure. lol. hope they make it happen one day.

I love it when Seth bashes the other fighting games, Mortal Kombat Armageddon was god aweful.
I am so sick and tired of worthless scrubs complaining about the balance in this game, its way better than any other SF game I can recall, so you dumb ass scrubs go and watch some DSP videos instead of leaving troll posts here.

I'm tired of hearing alot of complaints from the pc side. Lets get real guys, PC is so easy to get games. Especially street fighter 4, however you can't playonline without a key. I think the game should solidly stay on ps3 and 360 since tournaments only run those consoles and that most people can't even run sf4 on their pc.
With that said give me in order who sold more between ps3/360 and pc and show me numbers. If your going to complain about not buying it if its not on pc well to bad you'll miss out. People today own at least a 360 or ps3...get with the system yo.
Posted by zombi_ryu on February 1, 2010 at 8:22 a.m. #24
wow, nice bash on mk and ss...problem is that samurai showdown vi is actually really good.
Posted by juxtapose on February 1, 2010 at 9:19 a.m. #25
@23 - You hit the nail on the head. You can't play online if you pirate the game. If you can't go online, you're missing out on 95% of the experience. Therefore, piracy shouldn't influence Capcom's decision to release a PC version AT ALL.
CAPCOM, IF YOU DO NOT RELEASE SSF4 ON PC, CONSIDER YOURSELF LESS ONE CUSTOMER.
Posted by juxtapose on February 1, 2010 at 9:23 a.m. #26
DOUBLE POST, Y'ALL
...And don't start with the "get with the system" crap, because the system is flawed. Consoles are inferior in every single way, except that they are cheap and accessible to casual gamers like yourself. Real gamers know where it's at, and that's on a PC.
Posted by ixa on February 1, 2010 at 9:36 a.m. #27
didn't kof 2002 unlimited match have 60 or 50 something characters. I think it was more than mvc2

no pc version because of piracy?
may as well cancel super street fighter 4 for the 360 as well.
wii is pirate central as well.
the only platforms guaranteed of no piracy are the ps3 and the arcade versions.
so what exactly is going on here? ...

Might as well call this game Super Bloods Vs. Crips Turbo.

Yes, PC games are easy as cake to pirate.
However using key authentication it is pretty easy to stop those pirates from playing online.
Who the hell wants to play Street Fighter against CPU's forever?
I know atleast 5 people who Pirated SF4, and they all ended up buying it for online.
Posted by ¿? on February 1, 2010 at 3:46 p.m. #43
Honestly, 20-35 characters is already an excellent number of characters for a fighting game. The value of additional choices quickly diminishes after that.
A much better goal is to ensure all characters are both viable choices AND actually used. Which, unfortunately, is a lost cause in Street Fighter (the series as a whole). No matter what you do more than half the players in the casual to mid-level range will stick to Ryu and Ken. The numbers are probably higher than 75%, even. It's even sadder when you realize the only truly successful actions in lowering that number were introducing Sagat, Akuma and Sakura.
The only hope left is in high-level play, and hopefully things will be a bit more balanced now, increasing diversity for Evo.
Posted by EVO on February 1, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. #44
was pretty diverse, no Sagat in top 8
Posted by DarkDream on February 1, 2010 at 6:26 p.m. #45
Most likely a price drop on the fabled collecters edition for having SFIV. I wonder tho.
I ONLY PLAY GAMES WITH 10000000000 CHARACTERS IN IT MUGEN FTW!!!!!1111@
Posted by dawrongjo on February 1, 2010 at 6:39 p.m. #46
yeah i every pc game is downloadable at some point. I too downloaded sf 4 and ended up buying later cause i wanted to try playing online. Had to unlock all the characters again.
I made a mistake buying it on steam though. Everytime i play, Steam must be running in the backround, killing my dudes. So many times i start lagging out, I rage quit, and then i see the little Steam iz dl'in icon on my lower right.

Hmm...second most pirated game on xbox? Nice. Maybe less people would pirate it on PC if it didnt come out far later, maybe they bought it anyways if they liked it because it was far cheaper and you cant play pirate online...*shrugs*
Samurai shodown 6 is probably a better game than MVC with it's few viable characters and tons of abuse patterns, but MVC2 was REALLY fun 10 years ago around may or june for sure
Posted by Hitz_da_PHENOM on February 1, 2010 at 8:54 p.m. #48
When they start running Evo on PC you PC gamers will have something to bitch about. Until then just STFU and buy a console.. A used 360 is 180$. If you claim your "real gamers" you would have ps3, 360 & a PC. Anyone who plays fighter at a high level is looking for competition in a lag free environment.. Therefore 360 is the way to go for SF fans just for Internet alone but even I have a copy for both consoles n ssf4 reserved for both consoles so I can seek out the best competition not play the same 20 people that actually play this game online on PC. Without good comp you stay a novice. If super comes out for PC you guys replay channel should be called NOOB TUBE..
Posted by @Hitz_da_PHENOM on February 1, 2010 at 9:23 p.m. #49
Latency is always present in an online environment, it's not always visible with naked eye, but it occurrences outside control if the players means less accountability since someone can blame their loss on lag interfering with timing of a juggle. Tournaments prefer playing locally because it ensures both players have full control over there characters and losses are primarily attributed to their own mistakes.

The biggest roster in a fighting game is 161 characters in a Dragonball Z game.
