Players will have to pay for new SSF4 costumes

Players will have to pay for new SSF4 costumes

There's been some confusion if players would have to pay for the new alternative costumes in Super Street Fighter 4, or if they would come free of charge with the game.

Capcom V.P., Christian Svensson, has clarified the matter stating that the costumes would be player optional, i.e., they'll be paid downloadable content after the title is released.

The collector's edition of Street Fighter 4 came with a free costume pack for five characters, so it's possible Capcom may work a similar deal if they end up doing a collector's edition for SSF4 outside of Japan.

Anyway, here's Sven's response from the Capcom Forums.

Will the 3rd set of alternate costumes in Super Street Fighter 4 be free or not?

Sven: I'm sure more light will be shed in the months leading up to launch regarding how extra content will work, but we'll be pursuing a strategy similar to the original Street Fighter IV release with regard to costumes. They are options for players.

Note: If you bought the alternative costumes in Street Fighter 4 you do not have to purchase them again for SSF4.

I'm almost positive I read in one of the blogs that the SSF4 3rd costumes would be free of charge O_o

Posted by LetsWinWithTim on February 1, 2010 at 11:02 a.m. #2

Oh well no biggie - most of the 3rd cozzies are gags anyway. Although I have to admit, Vipers looks very cool (from the little we've seen of it).

I hope they make em free, I dont feel like paying for another set

@#1:

They indeed said that the new costumes would be free, but I believed it as much as would believe a whore telling me that she loves me.

Weak, Capcom.
Weak.

Didn't they straight up say the costumes would be included? Ridiculous.

Posted by Taibo on February 1, 2010 at 11:09 a.m. #9

I'm not sure if it was fixed, but didn't Capcom or Sony drop the ball a bit with the first Collector's Edition costume codes? I mean if you used the code for the brawler pack, you couldn't buy the remaining costumes in a pack of their own which would have been cheaper. Instead, you had to buy the other packs separately, which cost more than just buying the entire pack that included the brawler pack on PSN! I have the original collector's editon for PS3 and I ended up buying the entire pack, and not using the brawler codes cause it was cheaper to just buy the whole pack! :(

Posted by G Wizz Kids on February 1, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. #12

I guess since the game is $40 they need to get more money from somthing else.

Posted by BottomLine on February 1, 2010 at 11:17 a.m. #13

These are optional. You don't have to buy them at all so any further complaints are down right idiotic.

is showing that will have to many things to spend money..
good one capcom!!! u r sucking with these notices!

55$ for the game.

don't matter at all, up to know, i only have the original costumes and haven't even given the slightest thoughts of getting new costumes for sf4 or ssf4.

NO New costumes could be compared to the original ones. PERIOD. Im my mind, there is only 1 set and new costumes don't exist. :)

Posted by not 55$ on February 1, 2010 at 11:27 a.m. #19

its lookin 2 be around 50$ not 55$

Posted by xandeR on February 1, 2010 at 11:28 a.m. #20

I'm almost positive I saw Seth say that they were free. Very lame.

I'm still going to buy them because I love the costumes though. Oh well.

But I agree: WHERE ARE THE NEW CHARACTERS?!?!?!

It's been forever Capcom. Come on.

Posted by Games in Japan on February 1, 2010 at 11:29 a.m. #21

Games in Japan are very expensive, so that's why the ~$55 price point is technically a discount over there. I am sure the game will be discounted similarly over here in the States, probably around 40-50 bucks. As for the costumes, if they were gonna be free that's cool but since they're not, eh, they don't affect the gameplay.

Posted by Kyou on February 1, 2010 at 11:33 a.m. #22

The costumes are included on the game disc, like it was for Street Fighter IV. And similarly, you buy a code in the PSN store/Xbox Live to "unlock" it.

Thats what I was guessing from the beginning. Why would Capcom miss a chance to capitalize on their fans?

Posted by Where is the BEEF? on February 1, 2010 at 11:39 a.m. #23

So we have to pay for the new outfits. Big whoopie goldburg! What is the special bonus we get for keeping our old game? Is it you don't have to buy the old outfits again? Or is the bonus you get 5 new outfits for free? Or maybe you will not have to pay for championship mode on the new game?

Where and what is the added bonus for keeping my old game? Where is the BEEF?

Posted by Doesn't matter on February 1, 2010 at 11:39 a.m. #24

Most of the characters new costumes look like they haven't put much effort at all.. pc modders do more work than they do.. look at fei long 3rd custom...useless and not pleasing. Give us hokutonoken outfit or something that look like time was well spent...the only ones that really stood out were barlog and viper.... everyone is a joke especially blanka trying to give him dans costume lol capcom might as well make a limited edition for like 60 or 70 bucks that includes all the costumes and special features and such. And those who buy the limited edition gets bonus stuff that only can be found in limited ed.

That is why the arcade version and ps3 version rules.

No lame ass button checks and no tolerating idiots who hack their xbox 360's and pc's online and modify the files to do 1 button spinning pile drivers or ultra's.

Posted by juxtapose on February 1, 2010 at 11:52 a.m. #28

Why does everything think it's going to be $55? Just because it's the equivalent of 55 US dollars in Japan, doesn't mean they price games the same. Stop taking it to be fact.

Second. $13 for a full set of costumes is garbage. When SF4 was on sale, you could get it for less than that. They're just freaking skins. Shame on you Capcom.

Capcom never specifically said the costumes would be free. Based on the article Eventhubs posted, it was a french article that was translated and it was said that the costumes would be free.

http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/ja...

Posted by Jwong owns on February 1, 2010 at 11:58 a.m. #32

I'll just buy the ones for the characters im playing again if we do in fact have to buy them. Maybe the free ones they were talking about were the alternates for the new characters? that would make sense.

Posted by jak d ripr on February 1, 2010 at 11:59 a.m. #33

Now what i cannot stand is a developer going back on their word, not too long ago it was announced that the costume packs would be free now they are saying were gonna have to pay? I wouldn't be upset if they had just said it from day one.

lets all turn on capcom now

Posted by Kelgar on February 1, 2010 at 12:17 p.m. #39

F**k you to all of you who bought the costumes in the first release of the game. Now they realized that we're all a bunch of idiots and they'll keep on milking us as much as they can. Be sure to buy these too, one package at a time if possibile, just to maximize Capcom's income.

Posted by Izagaia on February 1, 2010 at 12:19 p.m. #40

Regarding "full costume sets": I was under the impression that Capcom had at one time, plans on releasing such a DLC package at a discounted price as compared to purchasing each one separately?

Not that,I suppose, it matters much. As fans, Capcom understands very well that they have us by the ballsack. Regardless of either the final retail of the game or it's add-ons, they know that loyalty to the SF base is almost second to no other franchise. We will open our wallets wide as they laugh all the way to the bank.

Then there would be those who undoubtedly respond: "but isn't it worth it for the countless hours of gameplay you receive in return?". Which, I in turn merely ask:"Why not as can't I, as a conscientious consumer, receive a good game at a good price? Why can't I buy a game without subjecting myself to an anal-raping in the process?"...

Posted by TJHooker on February 1, 2010 at 12:19 p.m. #41

i agree with poster above...stop licking Capcom's ass and supporting their products...seriously...its the main reason you get all those kick in your asses ! ...you lick them, and they like it...thats it...tis simple, its money business, not some loyal fans satisfaction...

Just support the arcade version of normal Street Fighter 4 until they wake up to themselves.

Perhaps as a gesture of good will they might produce an arcade version of Super Street Fighter 4.

But they're fast running out of time to keep their fans. ^_^

Posted by who cares? on February 1, 2010 at 12:28 p.m. #50

dont buy it then; everyone on here always complains but in the end will buy everything that is put out. so who wins in the end? capcom?!

Posted by PositiveandhappyLifeformeplease on February 1, 2010 at 12:31 p.m. #51

This is another case is capcom trying to get money off of us. Paying 4-5 bucks for 4 costumes is a crime and it should be lowered the price. I wouldn't mind paying 10 bucks for all the costumes for every character but that's not the case. You have to shell out about 40 dollars (roughly about the same range as SSFIV..)..

Posted by ray on February 1, 2010 at 12:42 p.m. #52

#31 summed it up perfectly, i remember reading that they were going to be free. what a surprise, capcom can keep their new alternates if they're gonna charge for them, what a ripoff.

@50 ...we're not talking here about who wins or not, we're talking it is unfair and rude from Capcom's side ! ...they make money on people's trusts which is a crime in my opinion...they kinda MAKE us wishing to pay for additional content, and we give them strong reasons by supporting such provokes...that is not a matter of "you don't want to pay, your problems"...that is the matter of equality of rights and such...

Posted by gt on February 1, 2010 at 12:53 p.m. #55

it's like the fans are a dick and capcom has no remorse on bashing.... But we have to go with it due to our position... In conclusion... everybody still gonnna buy SSF4... Sigh...

Posted by dsa on February 1, 2010 at 1:06 p.m. #62

Tekken has a huge amount of costumes, and you don't have to pay for them. SF has 2 outfits and you have to buy the second one.

Posted by @whoever dislikes dlc idea on February 1, 2010 at 1:16 p.m. #65

If you guys care so much about paying for the costume then complain about it on the unity boards and not here. Maybe sven/seth can help with the problem if enough people bitch about it.

Posted by Not Shocked.... on February 1, 2010 at 1:23 p.m. #66

Capcom is the company that locks game saves so you cant back them up, so why would they give halfway done alt costumes free. They will probably have that free coupon for the group that nobody really cared about, like last time with the grappler pack. They promote shotos so much, if they were for the fans then they would give that one out free.

Posted by Machineking1313 on February 1, 2010 at 1:28 p.m. #67

I will buy them all for $5 each, because I support Capcom and Street Fighter, and every single dollar encourages them to make another expansion/sequel to Street Fighter.

And are you guys really crying about $35 to $50? Seriously? Let me give you a few tips in order to scrounge up the small amount of cash needed.

Get a job? Quit buying drugs? Quit paying for sex? Stop gambling? Get out of your parents house?

@MachineKing1313 - Amen...

As for everyone else boycotting & accusing Capcom of "crimes".
As I recall 85% of you people complained about the alts. anyway, saying that they are crap & poorly made. If that is the case then why is a price on them such a damn concern to you??

Even them WHY do people add on the price of the costume DLC along with the price of the game itself? You know that the costumes change NOTHING regarding gameplay right?

Svennson even said in the very last sentence.
THEY ARE OPTIONS FOR PLAYERS.

Posted by Duhigitive on February 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. #74

I don't get it. So what is the incentive to keep the original Street Fighter 4 disc? I thought having the original disc AND SSF4 would give you bonuses, like extra costumes or whatever. If not, WHAT is the reason for keeping the old disc and not just selling it off?

Posted by Hmmm on February 1, 2010 at 2:06 p.m. #75

Just sell your copy of SF4, even if you get $15 who cares. Youve probably already played $60 worth anyway. Capcom just wants you to keep the game because they cant make any money off the resale. Just dont go to Game Stop and you'll get decent cash for it.

Think about it.

Posted by Solidus on February 1, 2010 at 2:17 p.m. #78

If the costumes were developed after release, it would be fine.

Or if they weren't hyped up as being a new point in a previous trailer, it would be fine.

Or if they had kept their word like before, it would be fine.

But the fact that you are paying for CONTENT that is ALREADY ON THE DISC is absurd and insulting.

Imagine paying for cheeseburger at restaurant, with the cheese slice locked in its plastic coating, and being forced to pay an additional fee to free the cheese from the coating.

It's pretty bad that Capcom is doing thi8. I know they are doing this because they want to keep their profits high. However, I agree with the post above, if Bison's costume suck, I will not buy it. Bison's pack was the only one I bought for the original.

And also it is agreed, they said and I can probably pull this up that thesse costumes were suppose to be free this time around. It's a bit dishonest for a company to charge for such remedial content. Next they will start charging for stages and music.

Posted by timetogetpaid on February 1, 2010 at 4:10 p.m. #102

its not the payin about the costumes that gets me kind of mad its the bait and switch approach that capcom decided to take on this....thats low. WHY would they have their employees saying its free and thhen a week later its like they never said anything! wtf just tell us straight up whats going on dont be a lying weasel

Posted by @102, on February 1, 2010 at 4:16 p.m. #103

yeah, and capcom accused namco of the exact same bait and switch approach with soul calibur on the consoles.

then they turn around and do the exact same thing with the championship add-on (xblox 360 got replay, ps3 got rating) and then said 'it was because the system could only handle that specific feature'.

absolute garbage that will not be tolerated.

last warning, capcom.

Wtf are we buying the game for if they make us buy costumes for an "expansion", the costumes should be part of the expansion. Honestly capcom, pos.

#51: "This is another case is capcom trying to get money off of us. Paying 4-5 bucks for 4 costumes is a crime and it should be lowered the price."

Yes...businesses exist to make money...what are you, seven years old?

A totally optional dollar-for-a-costume transaction is a CRIME? ROFL, you bunch of faggots. You're on a site reading Street Fighter news updates and pretending Capcom is in some kind of trouble because you're worried your moms won't pay a dollar a downloadable costume for you. Miserable, no-money faggots. You know you're going to get the game, so just shut up and stop being angry that things cost money.

#101: "It's a bit dishonest for a company to charge for such remedial content. Next they will start charging for stages and music."

Remedial? For what, exactly, are those things to be the remedy? How would graphics or sound designers WORKING FOR YOU FOR FREE remedy anything? What the hell is dishonest about optional content? Which part don't you understand—what it costs or what you get? Where's the hidden, shadowy dishonest part? WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THEY WOULD OWE YOU FREE STAGES, MUSIC, COSTUMES OR ANYTHING ELSE???

Jesus, you people sound like retarded queers. The Street Fighter community doesn't need you. Go play Animal Crossing or something.

No

Posted by Toby on February 1, 2010 at 4:35 p.m. #107

I really wish people would stop with these 'extras'... the reason Capcom get away with it is because people keep giving them their money for already-on-the-disc content. And as long as Capcom keeps raking in the money they don't care that business moves like this make them look like an arsehole company because... people who feel this way (myself included) still buy the game anyway.

Posted by J on February 1, 2010 at 4:51 p.m. #113

it's true, Capcom never claimed the new costumes were free, just that if you bought the first round of extra costumes for SFIV you wouldn't have to buy them again in SSFIV

everyone's angry over nothing...they are things you don't even have to buy if you don't want to and some of you are posting that Capcom shouldn't even sell them...what right do you have to say they shouldn't be on sale to people who want them?

Posted by Manicman on February 1, 2010 at 4:52 p.m. #115

Wow this whole discussion is a giant sh1tstorm.

Capcom is just following the trend of stupid DLC. I don't mind paying for DLC that enhances the game but costumes do nothing for me.

If I pay full price for a game I expect to get the most out of my purchase and I can do that without paying for DLC.

This is almost as bad as the Magic the gathering Arcade Game DLC. They charged you to buy different backgrounds for the game tables.

Posted by @106, on February 1, 2010 at 4:53 p.m. #116

It's that type of greedy attitude and bullying that motivate the community to slit your throat very slowly.

Either that or just completely ignore this, follow the arcade SF4 scene in Japan and play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on the PS3.

We don't mind either option.

you are right its not like tourney players customize their characters in T6, or have colors they like to use in MvcC2 or 3S, everyone just picks from two colors so everyone should stop bitchin

Casual players find too much to complain about. Paying for optional stuff, SF3 sucks, and the like. Besides, half of the people I see with alternate costumes suck anyways.....

So I guess I'd be a bit pissed too buying an alternate costume and getting owned in it over and over lol
Am I wrong?

Get some cash or quit the whining.

Videogames (and especially console) are a constant money-investment. So either get a new hobby, or stop complaining about companies charging for EXTRA content that is NOT needed for the core gameplay.

Posted by @123 on February 1, 2010 at 5:08 p.m. #125

You're right they do... except in T6 remember those cards that you had to buy?? Yeah. Also, I doubt people would complain if the options weren't presented. Except for with different colors lol. That would just be mean.

Posted by @126 on February 1, 2010 at 5:14 p.m. #126

Whats the point of buying these games then, something as simple as a extra costume is going to cost money again, and you cant tell me they are running out of room on blu ray and dvd this is just some BS, now if they want to do like blazblue and have an option to buy it or unlock it yourself then no one can complain, but another 25bucks plus the 20 from last time is juct fuc!!ked up

Posted by @127 on February 1, 2010 at 5:18 p.m. #127

Unless you're like an uber SF god, I dont see why you would buy every costume anyways. I mean, its purely cosmetics. Not like your SRK's are gonna hit any harder.

I know people like their customizations, but I think its just redundant to complain about it when its optional.

Granted I do remember S-Kill saying that they would be free... or was it that the new characters would only have one alternate.

Pretty sure due to the xbox 360 being hacked wide open, they could simply patch the ISO to enable all alternative costumes present on the disc.

However this isn't possible on the PS3, hence protecting capcom's IP and DLC.

I don't know if this was fixed, but didn't Capcom or Sony

drop the ball a bit with the first Collector's Edition

costume codes?

I mean, if you used the code for the brawler pack, you

couldn't buy the remaining costumes in a pack of

their own which would have been cheaper. Instead, you had

to buy the other packs separately, which cost more than

just buying the entire pack that included the brawler pack

on PSN!

I have the original collector's editon for PS3 and I ended

up buying the entire pack, and not using the brawler codes

cause it was cheaper to just buy the whole pack! :(

And no, I'm not bitching and moaning about having to pay

for costumes.

reality really does not exist , it's all about the perception you decide to take up ,if i sat down i could look at it from every angle of interest 'cause that's all this is about ,interest.

it's my personal belief (personal belief)the people were led astray with the ads ,whether it's direct or indirect is not even a discussion , you would have to be really bias not to see this ,it's shameful but what can you say ,you fans have been telling capcom how they brought back fighting games from the verge of death(true or not true is not the point) blah blah blah and created this monopoly type mentality setting and don't expect to get treated roughly. as itachi in revolution 3 says ,"YOU FOOLS".

now before I'm banned for telling the truth let me put down some few points.

1 . a person should be able to change their button config in the lobby while online, how can this not exist already, standards man standards.

2. getting costumes as dlc's is the height of frivolity,in todays advance world their is a standard you expect to be upheld ,multi costumes as in a costume and an alternative is one of them

2.5 not getting the possibility of downloadable characters in the far future so everyone will be satisfied is a joke meaning we need to buy a new game every time someone has a character idea(frivolous on my part i know)

3. showing ads that advertise the stuff were gonna get in this new game installment then turning around and saying "oh the part of new costumes is a misunderstanding a month or so later ,your gonna have to pay extra for it but it's on the disk already so that's why it was okay to put it alongside the rest of stuff advertise without stating it's going to call for extra payment" that's how i see them reasoning it (my view).

4. these 4 character slots have to be clarified 'cause I'm having a hard time with trusting anything coming out of the mouths of capcom(this is me if you still believe in them that's good for you) ,i honestly don't think their will be any more char' in the game .,heck they even went and change how Dee Jays crumple ex kick works after showing a vid of the man.

5. i really hope the above question is ans before i am banned for truth telling.

Posted by GLAD on February 1, 2010 at 5:49 p.m. #135

I for one am glad that people have to pay for the extra costumes because most of them are so fugly and kill the characters personalities.

Posted by Artiskan on February 1, 2010 at 6:05 p.m. #139

it's all good to me either way....but i remember seeing in a blog post on here saying that they would be free....plus it seems like they should since they made a whole trailer where the new costumes were partially of the focus of it....i wish i could get some solid info that doesn't change so quick...i'm waiting for the last characters to be confirmed (despite the fact that we all know who they are already....or do we...?)

DLC was the biggest sh*t invented in the world of videogames ever. EVER. We can't buy complete games anymore. They sell content that should be and COULD be on the disc that we pay to get when we get the game. We pay for big demos, not for complete games. Assassins Creed 2 is a great example of this sh*t, it's pathetic.

Posted by Gamogo on February 1, 2010 at 6:26 p.m. #144

Guys,

They're optional.

If you feel so strongly against having to pay for such material, don't support this greedy mentality by buying them.

The arguments against Capcom charging for this stuff are many and also quite obvious. Choose the higher road whereby if you honestly take issue with this charged DLC crap, simply don't support it.

The thing is that many fans don't stand behind their written and vocal convictions and eventually cave and drop cash on these meaningless trinkets which in turn only serves to motivate Capcom even further towards pulling similar sh!t in the future.

"So, how did the pointless charged DLC fare in the previous Street Fighter release?"

"It went well sir. Sure, they bitched and moaned on forums but the reality is that many of them dropped cash for it in the end anyway. Easy money."

"Excellent, excellent. So, how well are we poised to pull this sh!t again?"

"Very well, sir. We've managed to cludge together some truly uninspired costume designs that hilariously pale in comparison to the free offerings fans made for the PC release. Needless to say, the bulk of our customers are console owners whereby any manipulation of game data results in castration. Its essentially going to translate to guaranteed profits for minimal effort yet again."

"Well done. Also - are we still keeping Gouki's roflcopter in the game to piss them off?"

"Indeed. Set in stone sir."

"Excellent."

SSF4 is supposed to be an update to SF4. Why are we paying for an add on to an update? also Why were the costumes in that trailer advertised as a part of the new additions to SF4? Very misleading.

I'm obviously getting the game regardless but I just don't like what capcom is trying to pull with this. It would have been nice to have more costume options, but I'm going to protest the whole "unlocking with quarters" by not buying any.

Posted by Gamogo on February 1, 2010 at 7:03 p.m. #154

@ #148:

Of course, that demographic will always exist. I guess the real question is: exactly how large is it?

One argument caught up in all this that in some ways is unique to Capcom is the fact that its not really 'DLC' by definition. Its 'pay to enable it' (despite already owning it) content. I think that's pretty poor form on Capcom's behalf.

Still, DLC is here to stay and certainly isn't going away any time soon. Thankfully for us as SF fans, the 'DLC' isn't game changing nor required in terms of the full SF experience. Its purely aesthetic. We can fully enjoy the game without it. Its not like say a map-pack for a shooter that prevents us from enjoying large portions of the game with others.

Now, if chargeable DLC was the driver behind a key gameplay element such as say, lobbies or team games in Super AND we were CHARGED for it, I'd be disappointed. Frankly, I doubt Capcom has the gall to pull something like this but in the future - who knows? Perhaps games will end up as modular forms of entertainment where you buy the core or base product but if you want to enjoy the game's specific online or multiplayer modes then you need to subscribe to this content separately via parting with additional cash.

Some aspects of DLC essentially work this way already and I frankly do not support them. At all. Here's hoping this trend doesn't pervade games I actually play, SF being one of them.

Either way, DLC tends to leave a sour taste in people's mouths which is compounded by some of the curious methods comapnies such as Capcom go about it. For now though, we have the choice to forego it and don't exactly miss out on anything particularly game-changing.

I'll probably blow the cash otherwise spent on fancy costumes on something equally senseless like a couple of beers anyway :)

Posted by Zanken on February 1, 2010 at 7:04 p.m. #155

lol you whiners...

Wasn't the initial report that said you didn't have to pay was an unconfirmed report from some French website or something?

I quite like some of the costumes and don't mind paying for them. Given that this game will probably be one of the three or so games I actually play a lot in 2010, I don't mind paying extra money. If this games ends up being about $50-60AU the DLC will just take it up to normal new retail game cost anyway.

People will buy the game for the excellent 1 on 1 fighting. Having costumes free on disc will not sway anyone either way.

However, having them released as optional DLC gives extra revenue from people who want everything to do with a game and impulse shoppers.

Capcom is a business. They're not here to hand over free stuff just because someone complains.

If they have a way to make extra cash in the short and long term, then they will do it. Who would pick those costumes over the originals anyway? They're horrible.

Posted by Strider-RagnaroK on February 1, 2010 at 7:43 p.m. #168

How can people be confused over this the old extra costumes are free if you already bought them for SFIV for the new costumes on SSFIV you'll have to buy them (the first pack is free for download for a limited time) now if you didn't get the costumes for SFIV then you have to buy them too for SSFIV at least this is what have been said till now

1)This is optional you don't have to buy anything if you don't want to spend more of your money
2)Capcom isn't the only game company charging for downloadable content many other companies do
3)If you feel like Capcom is being greedy with this deal them thats your opinion but do lash out at those who buy these downloadable content because is thier choice to do so 4)If people didn't buy these kinds of things them gaming companies wouldn'd be releasing such contents

Posted by Morons on February 1, 2010 at 7:54 p.m. #169

No one is f_cking forcing you to buy them.

But if there were skins of a nekkid Chun-Li or something, I'm sure no one would be complaining.

Posted by Jordan on February 1, 2010 at 7:57 p.m. #170

For all the people complaining about the complainers, #78 summed it up best. Why should we have to pay for unlock codes that are already on the disk? Sure, if the DLC was made after a games release, you could justify a small fee for purchase to cover the costs. But these are things that are already on the disk, THAT WE ALREADY PAID FOR, so why should we have to pay extra to access something we've already bought?

That's my biggest problem with all this. Capcom is forcing us to pay for content that is already on the disk we own, they just aren't letting us use it. And the thing is, they're ADVERTISING the new costumes as a feature of the game, as if we can use them after we buy the game. That's just plain dishonest. I miss the days when we had to play the game to UNLOCK costumes the hard way, not just paying for them. I swear, we better get a nice bonus for keeping our copy of SF4. But after this bait and switch, I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom denies ever saying there will be a bonus, Ono be damned.

Posted by Madness on February 1, 2010 at 8:06 p.m. #171

Lets wait till the game comes out for PC and the costumes will again be better than any of these, for free, with hundreds of options.

Posted by spoiled on February 1, 2010 at 8:06 p.m. #172

The fact we get ten colors to choose from is fine with me. how many other SF games have had alt costumes before 4? HM?
Capcom obviously knows that "it aint trickin if ya got it"

Incorrect.

It wont come out on PC before the arcade but if it did, content of this type will be encrypted and hash checked.

Nickel and diming with costumes aside...at $40 (for the US anyways) it's better deal than paying full price than for a new version of the game. So far we have 6 confirmed additions to the roster and possibly get a few more by the time it's released to consumers. That is pretty good offer considering fighting games on average add 2-4 characters with each sequel.

There is not much in the way of new backgrounds, but on the same token they are purely aesthetic. This isn't Virtua Figther, where the type of arena can affect the tactics and outcome of the match.

In terms of gameplay, there is introduction to wall bounce and there have been claims that Focus attack are faster. It may not seem much, in a fighting game these little things can lead to big differences in how the game is approached.

Posted by chickenwings on February 1, 2010 at 9:03 p.m. #183

People just need to stop being retarded and not buy them. Charge for alt customs is ridiculous. Thats like cod charging u for useing guns, or charging people to use the fire flower as mario. Stop buying them. "its my money and ill do what i want", dont be a sucker and stop paying for things that are on the freakin disc.

Posted by Buffalo Wings on February 1, 2010 at 9:15 p.m. #185

Even if it's on the disk or not, you still have to pay for it. It's what Capcom wanted. I personally prefer the unlock keys. Less space on my HDD. My 20GB HDD is full of Rock Band songs, and XBLA titles. Does it make a difference if it's not on the disk really?

Also, it's an option. I personally only see myself getting Balrog's, Dee Jay's, Cody's and maybe Guile's if I see a full body shot. Most of these new ones are trash. I really hate Cammy's 3rd. Should have been a Doll Outfit, from Alpha, along with Chun-Li. Should have had her Alpha costume.

Don't like? Don't buy. You obviously want them. If you want em, pay for it. Just like anything else in life. Me? I'm just going to continue to use my Alternate for Balrog, in it's Apollo Creed hotness, and continue to punish Ken scrubs online.

Posted by uNF on February 1, 2010 at 9:18 p.m. #186

@187,
You're right, especially with a modified xbox 360.
They can get a hold of the disc, unlock the content and reauthor. :)

@186,
shaddap homo.

Posted by huh? on February 1, 2010 at 9:19 p.m. #187

Why does the fact that the costume graphics are on the disc have anything to do with paying for them? What makes you think that you somehow own the right to any and all content ever placed on the disk just because you bought it at a store? That'd be like saying you had the right to watch all endings without playing through or have all achievements unlocked for you because IT'S ON THE DISC SO I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO GET IT

BS

Extra costumes are available for you to buy if you want them

Who cares how they reach your account

That has nothing to do with anything

Grow up

First 'Super' gets disked instead of being DLC in rightly should be.

Next the new content turns out mostly to be joke additions.

Then they want near full RRP for this glorified DLC when a max of $40US was initially touted.

NOW they want you to pay for the pathetic clownfits they've barfed up!

When are people finally going to say 'ENOUGH CRAPCOMPANY! WE WON'T BE RIPPED OFF AGAIN!!'...?

Posted by @189 on February 1, 2010 at 9:49 p.m. #191

There's some blue in your nose there.

It's because of idiots like you that games like Dragon's Age Origins already cost 75$ between the game and all the extras. You might want to live in a future where games cost 129$ for the whole package but most of us don't.

I know it's hard for you simpleton fanboy to understand that some people value themselves over some random game companies out there and would rather pirate/hack the game than pay extra for something they already have in the disc, but hey, keep on hating the haters. I know that it's easier for the companies and their fanboys to blame piracy than taking responsability for their own damn faults such as terrible sales strategies when they are doing poor on the charts, but anyone with more than 2 brain cells left truly know who's at fault here.

No wonder your economy is a mess with so many customers willing to do anything for your favorite companies instead of, you know, yourselves.

DLC to switch off lenient inputs, auto turn-arounds, wiffy moves, messed up hit-boxes etc... would be well worth whatever they charged.

If those retard dunce suits came with the game FREE and were deletable, I'd delete them before even signing in my profile!

Good luck getting my money Crapcom. I might just flash my Xbox and download the game via a torrent (a month before the street date!) just to spite your money-grubbing selves. >_>

Its not like in kill zone where you have to buy those other maps ... ihave all the map pack except one so i cant join any games where people are playing with the new ones because they usually require u to have all -_-

Posted by Ezekiel on February 1, 2010 at 11:42 p.m. #207

I think there must be a misunderstanding ... maybe whoever translated the French blog got it wrong with the FREE 2nd alternate costumes. If you don't want to buy them, then don't buy them, and how are Capcom being greedy? do people honestly know how much it costs to develop a game?
Capcom are out of pocket before they make money, and developers don't do things for free.

People please think -_-''

Posted by The Dude on February 1, 2010 at 11:49 p.m. #208

If the costumes were greatly customizable which means unique looks for the players with loads of alternatives + maybe some additional visual and sound effects 'which would be cool btw' then I wouldn't mind paying for it that would be decent work that deserves paying for at least.

Posted by Deeds on February 1, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. #209

Arguing that they're just costumes or that fans are being cheap doesn't undermine the fact that it's very likely these costumes are being developed alongside other features that will be in SSF4 upon launch.

Which means they're also, most likely, being covered by costs of production.

By paying what will probably amount to $59.99 for SSF4 in Canada, I have a pretty damn good feeling a portion of that pricetag will have gone towards covering those costs.

Which means I'll end up paying money for something I will not have access to, that's already been developed prior to launch and has been falsely advertised as part of the game in trailers and in (perhaps mistranslated, though I sincerely doubt it, because I read the blog and I read, write and speech French) blog entries.

I was going to purchase SSF4 no matter what - it'd probably have ended up being my only video game purchase of 2010 considering the peas I make and my limited budget due to school, but now I think I'll just download the game via torrents to practice as the new characters and play my friends' SSF4 if he chooses to buy it - especially if the game is going to cost what I think it will. Maybe I'll pick it up for cheap later on after its price drops or if there's a new sequel that's worth the money and doesn't step on my toes.

Posted by Xeo on February 2, 2010 at 12:01 a.m. #210

Well, in all honesty, let me say, this is Street Fighter, so I admit, I'll be a sucker and buy them.

BUT, I still don't like it. We're buying a beefed up version of a game we've already spent sixty dollars on once, some of us spending twenty plus more on costumes on top of this fact. We really shouldn't have to buy another set of DLC costumes when we're spending forty MORE dollars on this new version of the game.

I can only hope one of, if not the bonus for still owning SFIV means getting these for free.

Posted by . on February 2, 2010 at 12:23 a.m. #211

Why do you think they wouldn't make a PC Version ?
To Sell to the Players alternative costumes that a PC Version can easily make itself

Posted by ^ @213, on February 2, 2010 at 12:28 a.m. #212

Incorrect.

The PC version can be secured with encryption and hashing of all critical content.

The piracy argument has no credility because their primary platform (Xblox 360) has been insecure and wide open to counterfeit copies for a long time now.

The only secure platforms are the PS3 and the Arcade.

It would have made a lot more sense to release Super SF4 on all platforms.
Would not have caused consumers to be offside, either.
Now they'll just spend their money on a PS3 and PC.

Posted by lol wut? on February 2, 2010 at 1:05 a.m. #213

Why wud anyone pay for the alts? 90percent of em are gash. If people dont pay for em this time Capcom will stop charging for costume DLC in future installments.

"Crapcom know this and want to take advantage of America's ailing economy to prop up Japan's."

That's a bunch of rubbish. Capcom is there to make money for themselves not for all of Japan. Honestly, Americans who are truly concerned about their economy should not be so concerned about spending money on luxuries such as video games.

People will continue to purchase DLC regardless and companies will subsidise their incomes with DLC. They have to put this stuff on the disc so when we play online we can see the other persons DLC. A few cry babies aren't enough to put a stop to this, so just get over it...

Posted by Hooded on February 2, 2010 at 6:38 a.m. #219

nobody is pissed that the SF4 features trailers made it seem like alternate outfits were featured to be included in SSF4 game?

maybe the ultra II will be DLC too?

ssfiv i will buy at a reasonable price.
costumes set 1 i have passed,
costumes set 2 i will pass as well.
all i need is the game with the original outfit, costumes other than the original is trash.

capcom will get my money for ssfiv but not at full price, but no way in 1000 years will they get me to pay for any trashy outfits.

It is a sin for capcom to announce and charge ppl for new skins that took them no effort to create. those are not outfits, they are jokes, and they make the game seem like a bunch of monkeys partying. shouldn't be in a sf game ever.

Posted by Desoximetasone on February 2, 2010 at 7:09 p.m. #225

yea i don't get the whole charging for DLC thing as well.

its the same engine as SF4 so its not a completely new game and they charge $40 for it fine i dont care $40 is reasonable to me, but then $12+ for the costumes? its like going to an expensive resteraunt and paying money for extra napkins.

Posted by @Desoximetasone on February 3, 2010 at 10:44 a.m. #226

Most fighting games series more or less build on mechanics of the previous game. In fighting games, the little things tweaked here, can drastically change how one plays the game. We are also supposed be getting a new wall-bounce sytem, an additional ultra for each character, re-balancing of the roster. Focus attack is supposedly to be faster than the previous game.

It has been confirmed that there are 6 new characters with high possibly of having more. Typically fighting games add 2-4 characters with each sequel.

Online mode is re-worked, although we have yet to see how much better it is than the last game. Aesthetically, there are new backgrounds, an new animations for the ones that exist.

For $40 you get additional characters, re-balance, and few changes in mechanics. Other fighting offer more or less the same thing for $60. Unless you are one of those nuts have to get every bit content (even non-functional fluff), you are getting a good deal here.

Posted by Don'y have a link but... on February 5, 2010 at 4:03 a.m. #227

I heard that the only bonuses is you get to keep your stats except for character use/encounters & win ratio & you get to use every except the new 10. Just a rumor though.

Posted by Don't have a link but... on February 5, 2010 at 4:16 a.m. #228

Oh and GFAQS says SFIV alts are free alongside the 1st costume pack that is released for SSFIV. I heard this at GFAQS but this may have come from a different source.
