Reverse Shoryuken Super Street Fighter 4 input bug with Fei Long, Gouken

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • December 31, 2010 at 11:52 a.m. PST
The input leniency in Super Street Fighter 4 has made for some rather infamous and interesting moments for many gamers, but Neville Bamshew discovered another input shortcut (bug?) with Fei Long and Gouken.

While this works for both of these characters, it's odd that the same input doesn't work for Adon.

Shortcuts are for babies...and Ono-san!

I heard a rumor that if Catalyst likes it, it makes the cover.
Good or not it's up to HIM.

SRK puts any story up regardless of being good or bad. They let the people decide for themselves, not just the owner's discretion.

So this explains it. I remember for years I kept doing random flame kicks out of the blue. I finally know why omg!!!! This has happened ever since the ssf2 days and it even happened in alpha I believe though I may be mistaken.

@#4, No that didn't happen in SF2 or Alpha days. Only stupid SF4 has these shortcuts.

I'm still dumbfounded that Sagat players screwed up the Angry Scar motion.

@7 It's when they cross him up on wake up, the short cut inputs sometimes activate the Angry scar when you want to do a tiger uppercut

In the future, in Streetfighter, one button press will suffice for all special moves! For more mass appeal.

Also, future Streetfighters will cut back on the violence. Instead of needing to knock an opponent out, you just have to knock them off the platform! To cater to people of all ages.

Oh..

@1: "front page"? Where the hell is he supposed to put it, there's only one main page.

#16
JohnJohnson said on December 31, 2010 at 2:37 p.m.

You know why it doesn't work for Adon? It's because Adon as 2 move that are SRK motions (front and back) + K.

#17
kingofthesharks said on December 31, 2010 at 2:58 p.m.

@15

streetfighter and smash are equally cartoony violent and T-rated. knocking off the platform doesnt mean anything. and MvC3 already has a simple mode for specials/supers so good luck with that.

@18

yea i noticed this a long time ago. Also because Adon's Jaguar kick isnt really a defensive reversal type move.

JMac said on December 31, 2010 at 3:18 p.m.

@17 I don't think that's what they were doing. I think they where shock to find out that you could execute a move more then one way which they didn't know about. That cause them to do the move by accident because they didn't know you could do it another way.

@ 17 yup your just so pro you never get shortcut inputs

typical of every scrub on eventscrubs trying to flame or troll someone for making a statement that is entirely true

maybe step off your pedstal and watch a few sako matches even he gets random c.spikes or strikes or w/e the shoryu is called.

or maybe listen to some interviews like the one with j. cole who even said shortcuts make it harder on pros but hey what do they know everyone has heard of odinreborn and no one has ever heard of sako or j. cole.

@ 26 now fei long? god can't you just stop this tier complaining?

#27
NumeroGaijin said on December 31, 2010 at 6:14 p.m.

@26 I agree with 29. Please shut up about Fei being god tier. Let tell all you people something that are trying to hate on Fei saying he is too to cheap and all this nonsense. Only the player that plays Fei can make him god tier. In other words, Fei's potential is tied alone to the skill of the person using him. This is true for almost all the roster of ssf4 and it will be so in AE. Stop saying someone is cheap just because you heard someone else say it. Mago makes Fei look good and so do a lot of other players. Fei isn't some cheap pick up and play character like Sagat was in SF4. Forgive for such a long post but I think it is retarded to complain about how cheap a non cheap....having to actually use true skill and fast reflexes and not easily winning character like Fei.

This is one of the reasons why I feel that SFIV is not that good of a fighter. Input shortcuts, auto-correct, and an abundance of option selects, just makes this game too easy.

genesiskhan said on December 31, 2010 at 7:13 p.m.

ExclusiveOrGate said on December 31, 2010 at 8:48 p.m.

@ 30 (crispylinks77)

It's hard to say that anything competitive is "easy", if you know what I mean.

Raven said on December 31, 2010 at 9:35 p.m.

Capcom does a lot of things in this game that makes it harder on pros, like messing with Ryu's cr.MK when it's unnecessary. So when you expect pin point precision, some random crap comes out and that could be the end of the round. Yeah, it's pretty annoying.

#32
SaikyoRyu said on December 31, 2010 at 9:56 p.m.

@crispylinks77
"this game too easy."

Uhh.... speak for yourself. The only people I know who don't think it's hard are people who've been playing a long time. If you want SFA3 or SF2, go back and play them. I'd much rather play SSF4 with its input leniency.

#33
Ryu_Apprentice said on January 1, 2011 at 12:56 a.m.

Fei if you ask me is not an easy character, you need quite alot of skill and technique to play him, unlike ryu ken sagat zangief(lariat). I tried to play fei and it wasn't easy. Just because someone on tournament level makes him look good doesn't make him god tier. Bet if someone uses Dan and uses him on tournament level he will turn to overpowered and capcom will nerf him too.

#34
Gameplan said on January 1, 2011 at 12:57 a.m.

@crispylinks77
I don't know what you call "easy" but autocorrecting and option selects have been in fighting games for ages. Heck, 3S has both of them and that doesn't make the game any easier.

And that Fei "shortcut" is clearly a bug. The fact that it works for some characters and not for others makes it even more suspicious.

DeadlyCreampuff said on January 1, 2011 at 4:47 a.m.

@18 Actually Gouken has DP inputs in both directions for both punches(Rushpalm and High Counter) and kicks(Demonflip and Low Counter), so that's not the reason.
It's quite odd :S

#36
RandomJohn said on January 1, 2011 at 11:14 a.m.

It makes sense why my gouken does a counter (when I didn't even try).

This doesn't seem to work in Vanilla SFIV, so it's most likely a glitch.
