Alex Valle left a few messages on his Twitter giving a quick update for those curious about various changes to Ryu in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Here's the rundown.
• Ryu's Light Dragon Punch anti air trade into Ultra 1 works, but you have to be really fast. Option select vanilla technique recommended by John Choi.
• Ryu can no longer do extended Light Punch Shoryuken combos into Super. His Light Punch Shoryuken has more recovery and it appears the opponent is pushed back further.
• Both Valle and Choi said they've stuck with Ryu in every Street Fighter game and it doesn't sound like either guy will be dropping him now in Arcade Edition.
I saw a tournament where Valle played Adon.
Sorry Ryu, but Alex cheated on you.
Huge valle fan here, but he did drop ryu in 3s......
@#1:
Daigo a tier whore? Stop trolling. I guess Ryu was top tier before AE, right? Also explain to me why he didn't pick Sagat in vanilla if he's such a tier whore? Valle and Choi do not play SF4 for a living. Daigo does. That's why they don't mind staying with Ryu. Think about it idiot. Also tier lists aren't not even out and you're already making assumptions based on what? The usage and bp lists that came out for Japan?
Ryu's playstyle gets pretty boring after seeing so many people play him. Valle, Choi, and Daigo however, are the only ones I find entertaining to watch
yeah lets just have all the top players pick dan, sakura, and gen. so they can get the respect from the great people of eventhubs.
Overall though, Ryu is a weaker character now in AE. The biggest nerf is with the reduced hitbox on his cr.mk. Also his nerf to air tatsu escape is a pretty big one since he can no longer get out from the corner. And one of his more problematic match ups now, as with Yun and Yang would be against Zaingief since he can no longer utilise the air tatsu escape. Damn you whiners, complainers and scrubs that can't adapt and step your game up. Always calling for nerfs even when unnecessary. Now look what has become of the protagonist of SF, reduced to being an almost unviable tournament top contender.
Every iteration of SFIV now has progressively been about NERFING out characters and moves deemed too "overpowered" by casual players no less. I wouldn't be surprised if the console DLC version of AE puts some more NERFS in for characters such as Ryu, thus rendering them to being scrub tier!
Many players these days are so SPOILED! They have loss their drive to compete and make compensations for their characters' inherent weaknesses. The game is becoming more bland and boring as a result.
Rant OVER!
@ EX_Ein Lol why should he apologize the guy is obviously trolling with the new character thing they won't make mention of them until before the DLC most likely to hype it up for everyone.
Also to # 19 Alex did play Ryu in 3s he is like the only one who took a round against Tokido's Urien if I remember correctly. This was before the awesomeness of Ken really hit
I think Capcom should of just buffed the weaker characters and leave the strong characters alone.
@TheMasterPlayer
Actually, with each iteration the MAJORITY of the cast has gotten better. From Vanilla to Super the top tier got larger and the tiers themselves were condensed, making for anything but bland or boring results.
Only a few characters (your main, Ryu I'm sure) have gotten progressively nerfed. This is always natural progression in the balancing process, some chars get better, others worse. Looks like you're just gonna have to adapt and step your game up...or switch like Daigo.
I agree with #26. Buffing all the weaker characters and making the stronger characters damage weaker woulda been a good way to settle it. All this ryu nerf is really stupid and totally unnecessary. He was consider "okay" in ssf4 cause he still had some of his tools he coulda used but AE just fully killed it.
I just want AE DLC for super to be out already or at least be announced. I see no point in still playing Super when AE will eventually be the main game. Must as well visit the arcades out here in So.Cal that have AE and practice there.
I'm personally enjoying the ryu nerfs every edition of this game. Means I have to fight one of the least interesting characters in the game less and less online. Go online and you're just wading through a sea of ryu/ken/akumas. Maybe for once i'll get to fight someone other than a shoto, cammy, guile or bison.
So when Daigo picked Ryu people complained because he was turtling now he switches to Yun and according to Tokido plays very aggressively. No matter what he does he can't please you people.
BTW I'd just like to point out that there is nothing wrong with turtling or picking top tier characters to be honest only scrubs complain about these things. I have never heard Jwong or any other top players complain about turtling and what not how ridiculous would that sound.
TKD dropped elf because elf sucks ass. Daigo dropped Ryu even though he's still good for a top tier.
There's a difference.
@ 40
Funny thing is that everyone used to complain about the same thing with Justin Wong. He used to turtle in 3s and CvS2, people complained. Then he played offensively with Rufus in a defensive-oriented game, people complained. Lots of fagg*try going on haha.
@26 i agree.
People dont know about how a characters abilities are limited in some areas, so they have to use the abilities where that character excels from the most.
This is what seperates the weak from the good players.
Also
There are so many fans for Pro fighters out there, its like little girls going crazy for them bands like Backstreet boys or Nsync. Arguing about who is better than who.
Im not a fan but i respect the tournament players.
Pick a character that gets you wins. High tier or low tier. People only remember you for winning not losing.
You guys complain all the time. Daigo picked up Yun and is more offensive and you guys still complain. When he was using Ryu, complaints about everything. Ryu was getting boring to watch imo with all the turtling. I welcome the change for more offence.
@ 28 prof21
Nope, I don't main Ryu. But as a character and as the protagonist of SF, it hurts me that so many people complain about his overall strength as a character. These people don't seem to get that as a character, Ryu was designed to be an "every man's" meaning he has the tools to deal with just about any situation in the game not to mention he is an easy character to pick up and play with and is very deadly in the right hands.
What ticks me off is no matter how he is toned down in every iteration of SFIV, people always find something to complain about how overpowered and too good Ryu or any other "top tier" characters is. We should all face the fact that in every fighting game, some characters will ALWAYS be better than others because of a whole lot of different factors. One being the inherent design and fighting style and abilities of each character (e.g. Sagat as opposed to say... Dan or even Hakan).
Anyhoo, I can see that you used my words against me man. "Adapt and step your game up"... lol. You bet I will.
@44
Still BS anyway . If he keeps Ryu , and as usual do something worthwile with it , the same people will be complaining about ryu .
And trolling Daigo for not picking an unpopular char .
Should he pick say Gen or T-hawk , you'd see the same idiotic complaints about that "x" move or combo being obviously too cheap and to be nerfed at all cost .
Exactly what happened everytime someone found something worthwhile with el fuerte or blanka
#11
That's because they are the very few Ryu players that play aggresively. A majority of all the Ryu players play very defensively in SF4.
#15
I remember the good old days were SRK's were performed as F,D,Df+P and required good timing and fast reflexes to hit your opponent.
He has mentioned before I pick characters with the best options and that what separates our level from his the win factor
theyre adding more characters you'll see. remember when SF4 arcade was out Gouken Sakura Dan Gen Rose Fei and Cammy were not playable but on console they were. maybe Alex and Karin Rolento all these chars people want will be a DLC along with our AE DLC
@57 agreed SRK use to take SOME skill to use, but video games arent the same anymore so... Eh!
Also nerfing Ryu isn't the problem its how they nerfed him... They didn't have to touch his Cr.Mk but... Eh!
Personally I haven't played a fighting game where the main character wasnt built to take any situation, so why are people complaining now after 20 some odd years of Ryu being designed this way.
Capcom could strip Ryu and Ken of everything and people will still pick them why because they are the most advertise characters of the game. Put Balrog on the cover of the next 2 SF games and watch his popularity rise.
To be fair capcom is a business so no matter what as long as there are more unskilled then they are skilled players keeping the unskilled happy is top priority! As they are majority we know its true!
Defensive= any idiot who doesnt jump around all day long and utilizes intelligence and strategy
Tier whore=Anyone who uses a character that is competent
Should have to take some sort of comprehension test before you can even look at any tierlist. People are so dumb for whining about any tier in ssf4 when most of these clowns claim they love 3rd strike.
Valle is a true man.
Daigo... tier whore.
