While this probably won't come as a surprise for most of the people reading this, Christian Svensson confirmed on the Capcom Forums that there will be no new characters or gameplay elements for Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, but he added that there's still some exciting things to announce in regards to the game, stating the the title will go places for fans that no fighting game has before.
When will we get some Street Fighter 3 Online Edition details?
Svensson: Release is still quite a ways away and posts like this are part of the reason I didn't want to announce the title when we did (just after it was greenlit and development only just beginning).
In a project like this, where you guys know who the characters are and what the gameplay is, we have a very specific set of "new bits" to talk about and we can't go firing all of our details at once lest we not reach beyond a very limited audience (and while I love you guys, we really need to bring more than the hardest core SF3 fans to the table to be successful with the title). Secondly, as a digital release, the marketing ramp up needs to be relatively short as compared to a retail release.
To more directly answer the question (sort of), we have a schedule for reveals and announcements in 2011 that alas, I must still remain coy about for the reasons above. At the risk of stirring the pot/raising expectations to unreasonable levels, there are places this game is going for fans where no fighting game (not even our big retail fighting games) have gone before.
It's for those reasons I'm extremely excited about this project personally.
It makes me think SF3 Online Edition might have Tekken 6 graphics with the way you're talking.
Svensson: Remember what I said about the risk of raising people's speculation to points of unrealistic expectation? You've just gone further than I'd imagined anyone could. ;) It's still Street Fighter 3.
Where no fighting game have gone before.
what is this i dont even
I WISH IT WAS ON DISC. GAMES ON DISCS ALWAYS BETTER CAUSE SOME DLC GAMES U HAVE TO BE SIGN IN TO PLAY BUT DLC IS COOL AND I CANT WAIT FOR IT ON PSN BEEN A FAN SINCE DREAMCAST AND STILL LOL.
seriously dont get yr hopes up about the 'where no game has gone before' stuff. When they were teasing super, they made it sound like the bonus for having original sf4 was going to be amazing, and it was just 2 extra colours (admitadly the ink version is sweet) so this probably just means theyl have a gallery with loads of artwork. Realistically, what else could it be? World tour mode? doubtful.
Would be nice to put new characters. Like sf3alpha max. I dont see the problem why. Maybe el fuerte and abel. Awesome.
I swear to GOD if they anything with 3s online I'm done with CAPCOM
Where no fighting game has gone before eh...
Interesting statement. I wonder what it could be? Although upon hearing that statement, the next thing that came to my mind quickly was Star Trek: The Next generation. LOL!
This confuses me...i mean no new characters + no new gameplay elements pretty much means nothing THAT big is new...right? Even if it has tons of online modes, if the gameplay is intact what has changed to make it so big? Could the graphics have been overhauled so much? Yet if so why aren't they saying its an HD remake?
They removed Ryu from the game (for whiners) and added input leniency (to piss off would be pros) and there you go, SF3: 3rd Scrub Edition.
Happy?
Where no fighting game have gone before.
Kratos is confirmed for SF3 online! ..
gameplay balanaces? why would anyone want that? only n00bs who cannot adapt. I didn't like sirlin changing gameplay mechanics with super turbo, which most tourny players hate that game, I'd imagine same thing would happen with 3s.
Re-balancing would be nice, that way Sean isn't useless and a few other of the bottoms didn't have to give up an arm and a leg to learn.
I know what they are doing they are making ken and ryu the ultimate players in the game! where once you pick them its OVER! Everyone online just loses! hahah jp jk jk (just a joke for the nerd raged guys), but i really dont know who was expecting new players? lol come on thats kinda lame than it wouldnt be 3rd strike! Im thinking new stages, maybe a music selection menu, a new way to select character colors, maybe proluges and more detailed endings, charcter bios etc, and hopefully a character challenge/tutorial like in ssf4. but yea thats the only thing i can see they can actually add to it with our ruining the game!
Thank you SOOOO sosososososososo much for no new characters.
Looks like Capcom knows what to do.
DONT.MESS.THIS.UP.
So, what I've heard from my top level, secret sources is that, available in game you'll have access to a Resident Evil type game mode. Whereby you pick your character, up to 4 people can play at the same time, and you go around this "Streets of Rage" type environment using all of your special abilities from 3rd Strike! Amazing, isn't it?
Not only that, but you can now adjust the game to be played in a very specific way, even online! Taking the idea from Marvel Vs Capcom 3, you can now just press one button! Yes! Just one button to do a massive combo! Parrying a problem? Not anymore! Just press one button and you will parry every single one of your opponents strikes! Then, well then it's straight into a complicated combo with a single button press. I for one am totally titillated about this. It opens up the game for the majority of gamers now, who happen to be casual gamers.
Ahh the joys of being a gamer in the 21st century. It's sooo laid back... it's so easy street. No more practice makes perfect, it's all there for the taking now.
it is taking quite a long time. maybe they've made it so that we can play different versions of characters like SF anniversary collection. maybe i can use 3rd strike Urien vs 2nd impact Alex. that would be really awesome.
@29
*sigh* if only Capcom would hire people like you
i dont want characters i just want redrawn sprites LOL
When he says something they've never done before, I'm hoping he means the use of GGPO in the game, since no official fighting game has used it yet. All I want is that and graphic filters, and I'm good. A training mode that shows inputs would be nice too.
"and while I love you guys, we really need to bring more than the hardest core SF3 fans to the table to be successful with the title"
what could this mean? easy version!!!???
He hasn't confirmed anything as to whether there are new characters, in the same way that he hasn't confirmed that there's no new gameplay. In fact, there HAS to be SOME element of new gameplay or else this is a waste of time and money for Capcom (people are already bragging about how they can already play the game for free - without SOME kind of new gameplay, they can kiss their customers goodbye).
All he said was that people already know what the game is like since it's an old game, so they only have a few announcements that they can make, and they wanna sae them.
IF there were new characters, he wouldn't be able to say "where you guys know who MOST of the characters are" or that would be letting the cat out of the bag.
This is really some over-enthusiastic journalism. But typical of Eventhubs.
So who's looking forward to the new Street Fighter animé series? :P
Sven dealing with us straight, as usual. I like it.
"there are places this game is going for fans where no fighting game (not even our big retail fighting games) have gone before."
What, like slapping on some GGPO netcode, throwing in some of the same emulation filters that have been around since 1998, and calling it a wrap?
Mvc24ever, did you even play on ggpo for more than a day? "In ggpo all the ppl play with oro or yun only to apply those severe tricks they have", really? Yuns aren't as common as you say and Oros(good ones) are even rarer. Most Oros I've played(very few) were very random mashers and only a couple of them used him effectively. I'm guessing that the people you played were tad bit better than you, so they just picked Oro for the hell of it to exploit your lack understanding of the game. I found a lot of Dudley and shoto players, but even then I wouldn't say GGPO is full of them. You shouldn't say things that you don't know.
So THATs why Elena is not in SSF4...They want her only for SF3: OE
I thought they were racist...silly me!
