Street Fighter is a lot like a porn film — you watch it for the amazing plot. In all seriousness, the story lines in Street Fighter are sometimes ridiculous, but a few of them help to tell the tales of characters we've heard so little about over the years. The plot of Street Fighter is that everyone either wants to meet Ryu or kill M.Bison (or both).
I think Akuma is the only person to have actually done both, so clearly he wins the plot.
Am I like the only person who actually cares about Street Fighter's plot/canon?
MuffinOfFun: "Am I like the only person who actually cares about Street Fighter's plot/canon?"
Definitely not. It is good to be able to read these; thanks to everyone who contributed.
I think some are still missing, such as certain "win with a Super" comments, but I am sure they will be filled in with time.
@ #6 feel free to submit the one's I've missed.
The SF story can be convoluted but if you find the right source of info things become somewhat clearer.
@ #8 UDON screwed up the Dan/Go/Sagat part of Chun-Li's mini. If they are the company responsible for putting together that one.
Abel: Hey, you’re Fei Long! Would you fight me?
Fei Long: If you insist.
Abel: Seriously?
Fei Long: I WON'T REPEAT MYSELF!
I like the SF story, it's a little unorganized, but I'm fine with it; I'm not looking for an award winning novel in a fighting game.
That being said I can see the original manuscript now:
Abel: Hey...you're Fei-Long *mouth agape*
Fei-Long: Well I'm sure as hell not Bruce Lee
@ Odin
All of the Tekken games are canon except Resurrection and Tag. Essentially since the first game the Mishimas have taken turns winning the tournament.
Tekken 1 Kazuya beat his Heihachi.
Tekken 2 Heihachi avenged his loss and tried to kill Kazuya.
Tekken 3 Jin won by killing True Ogre.
Tekken 4 Jin leaves Heihaci and Kazuya buried alive under Honmaru.
Tekken 5 Jin kills his grandfather Jinpachi and willfully wrestles control of the Zaibatsu from Heihachi.
Tekken 6 Not totally sure but one of the Mishimas probably win this one. Real surprise I know >_>.
The rest of the characters have degraded to mere sidestories over the years.
Street Fighter is about the characters and the story of those characters, which can be downright fascinating. But it's obvious things got unorganized and after a while don't make much sense.
I like Street Fighter II V, though it has its flaws. There is so much potential in SF, you'd have to be blind not to see it. I just don't see anyone putting a good amount of effort into the story, so it stays a weak link. A story done by a manga-ka would be awesome, but clearly Capcom doesn't care about that.
@Kenshiro
Resurrection IS canon. It's just an update to re-balance the game and add 3 (2 new and 1 "old-new") characters.
Only Tag and Tag 2 isn't cannon.
You wouldn't really know the conclusion of Tekken game (except 6... you know what happens when you complete that easy S.C.).
SF story is interesting... but the timeline is stupid.
EX: Sakura was 16 in Alpha 2... she should've been 21-22 in SF4... but she was still depicted as a 16 year old girl.
EX: Makoto and Ibuki are 16-17 years old in SF3 Series, shouldn't they be 13-14 years old in the SF4 Series???????????
To be honest, I've had SSF4 since launch and I haven't bothered to see em all. Looks interesting though
