Always love the cover work. I like the America/Europe one though there are some odd looking faces...
I really like the Japanese cover. The special edition is cool too, and the American one is my least fav. Nothing wrong with the NA version, but, I don't know, the other ones are just better.
Oh, and as for the fan made ones, they're ok, but I have a problem with them. Why is Ryu centered in both of them? On the Japanese versions, Ryu AND Wolverine are in the middle and the NA one has most of the cast facing each other. It's Marvel VS Capcom, not Capcom and guys from Marvel. Just a thought.
Look, I know it's been said a billion times, but...the American art is just plain awful.
You know those weird fan made images, where they take a fictional character, and apply creepy real life textures, to make them seem real? It looks like that, but 10 times worse than usual.
There's a mile long gap between Morrigan's eyes, Amaterasu looks like someone just painted a real life dog to have her color scheme, Wolverine looks like an old man in a costume in a REALLY awkward pose, Hulk and Ryu have the same face, and Viewtiful Joe...oh, poor Viewtiful Joe. Look at all that out of place, creepy looking detail on a character that's supposed to be cell shaded. His beard and grin are sickening, to say the least. And he looks tall. Dante looks really weird in a way you can't really describe. His face is ugly and lacks detail when everything around him has tons of it.
Everything is so out of place, it looks like a bunch of ugly cosplayers. It totally disrespects the game's art style. I'd rather them just copy and paste oficial artwork like they did in SSF4.
I know it's probably not possible to change this late in the game but...holy crap, I really hope it is. :/
@9
Wow, I never really looked at the right side of it for some reason, but now that I look at it... I totally agree, especially with Viewtiful Joe and Ammy. Thor's face also looks really long (or something?). It also bugs me how most of the characters look like 2D art, while V. Joe has a certain 3D quality to him.
I mean, to me it's no big deal because I barely look at the boxart, but I do find it odd that this was the artwork they chose. The artist may be good in their own way, but it's definitely not the style of the game. I actually really like the fanmade ones here, aside from the inequality between Capcom/Marvel. I especially like the use of that ring of silhouettes.
But like I said, it's no big deal. I'll be too busy playing the game to care about Morrigan's weird face on the boxart.
WOW you guys are right its horrible the japanese one is way better and the fan art i dont like it why does ryu an iron man have to be the biggest one in the pic lol
Why is Chun Li a guy on the American/ European cover?
It's funny how nobody says anything bad about the Japanese cover. How overly color saturated and plasticy the characters look. Not to mention that Thor looks disproportionate, hulk looks absolutely terrible, and half the characters are in typical anime/manga poses.
The Japanese cover looks very toylike. That cover would never fly in the us. Say what you will about the US cover, it is made to resemble a movie poster which is far more appropriate seeing how US superheroes are taken more seriously by the general public in the US than the way Capcom characters are taken in japan.
The composition and design choices are fine in my eyes. I'm not gonna say that morrigans face looks great but I feel there is a lot more good than bad in the western cover art. Just think outside the in japan everything is better bubble for a little while. This coming from a person who studies Japanese.
The Japanese and Special Edition covers work better than the America version and the fan-made ones are awesome.
Wow. It's strange that the fan made cover looks more official and just better overall then both the US and the JP one. Even thought They're both fine in my opinion, if I had a choice of which one I would get with my case, it would definitely be the fan made one. Good job man. you pwned the rest of them
I think Street Fighter cover art should have some graffiti or street like drawing
The problem with the American one is that it doesn't follow at all any style set by the game. It looks like they tried going for creepy fake realism, when the game is comic book style. At least the other covers are true to the game style.
the US cover is actually artwork, while the japanese one is just character models vomited on the front cover. to add to the vomit motif, they look like they're all covered in pepto bismal too.
@31
Exfuc.kingxactly, People are playing dumb her or something, the us/eu cover have artwork drawed by someone you know? and it's not the dumb cgi version the japanese will get.... It's like people prefer cgi instead of artworks, wth....
I don't keep game cases nor the manuals and the US/EU cover is why. For anyone complaining about the game models being displayed instead of actual artwork...Seriously? Really is it that unpleasant to gaze upon? Sorry I'll always take the game models over retarded illustrations because, honestly if you saw no trailers or gameplay footage you'd go with the better looking cover Point Blank Period.
American cover is horrible they need to change it to the Japan art cover which is better. Why do they keep making marketing decisions like we're different people after we all are gamers looking forward to the same game.
I never noticed how f*cking disgusting Chun-Li looks in the US version. I LOVE the 360 fan art, though. Amazing work. Much better, imo. The Japanese one isn't bad, but it seems so....random? I dunno.
I must say US ver. could have turned out a lot better if they picked a different artist. I am kind of getting the original NES Megaman cover vibe coming from the US version. But hey, at least its not a copy-paste. The JP version, on the other hand, seems kinda bland and not as dynamic, if not a little stereotypically anime-esque. If i had to pick, I would definitely prefer the special edition cover, and am very glad that I already pre-ordered it!
I think that the Marvel characters are spot on in the US/EU cover. Believe it or not, that's how they're supposed to be drawn and portrayed. What the US/EU cover seriously needs to work on though, is improving the quality of the Capcom characters. There are too many inconsistencies with their appearances and their styles. We've known these characters for years, even decades just to have them look like something that we know they're not. #9 Pointed out their flaws perfectly and they need some serious fixing.
#31 made a great point about how pointless the JP cover looks. It's really nothing special.
As for the fan art... not impressed. It's good work, but anyone outside of Capcom can do it.
Overall, the US/EU is the best cover IMO.
Japanese version's the best, hands down. When I first saw it, many weeks ago, I thought it was way better than what we were getting in N.A.. We got the sh*t end of the stick with every SF4 iteration's cover, as well, so Capcom will f*ck us all over, once again with poorly drawn and/or poorly copy/pasted "artwork". The same happened for EVERY Capcom fighting game we ever got in the U.S., and it's total bullsh*t. -But what are we gonna do about it? Capcom claims they listen to the fans, but then again, that's how we got worthless asses Yun and Yang in SSF4AE, and the whole idea of even having Rolento, R.Mika, Nash, Hugo, Elena, etc. added to the roster went down the drain. SSF4AE, as I've said before, isn't worth my money, just yet. If they surprise me with characters to be released for it later, on consoles, THEN I MIGHT buy/play it instead of JUST MvC3 (when it launches). Otherwise, MvC3's a hell of a lot more deserving of my time and money.
In case no one remembers the BAD artwork for any of the Capcom fighting games in North America, look around for images online and you might find them somewhere. Look at EVERY North American/United States release of Street Fighter, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, and any of the "versus" series games. Even check Pocket Fighter and/or Super Puzzle Fighter II: Turbo.
I THINK at least one or two of the covers for ONE of the Darkstalkers games retained the original Japanese cover art, but I could be mistaken. I only kept the Japanese versions of most of these games between PS1, PS2, SS, DC, PSP, etc. The ONLY Street Fighter Art I can think of that kept original Japanese cover art was for the Sega Saturn "Street Fighter Collection" that included "Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash", or what Americans know as "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold". -But I think that even for that one, they screwed with the cover art's BACKGROUND. Anyway...
Can we PLEASE confront Seth Killian or who ever next interview about the US cover? I think it's unanimous that it is REALLY hated and needs to go. It doesn't affect the game, but really this is terrible and needs to be addressed for the sake of graphic designs if anything.
They both look good I guess and the fan made 1s are pretty good as well the ps3 version rock good job 1 month to go Chris Wesker , and Jill ftw can't wait
i dont get how can anyone say the eu/us one is ugly . It's an actual artwork from a famous and current beloved Marvel artist . Granted it's not his best work , and he's better on things involving suits like Iron Man ...
Still it easily beats a lazy patchwork of the game's model with oversatured colors
Rocks:American/Euro
Meh: Special Edition
Sucks:Japan
one reason one reason only
HULK- US/Euro gets him right, SE doesn't feature him and Japan F***s him up(yep the in game model of the hulk F***s him up)
This is the hulk I like:
http://www.brokenfrontier.com/userfil...
Notice the Average sized teeth, the mouth that is smaller than the distance between his eyes and the strong yet not roided up look(when on Roids veins don't show since the muscle grow but the veins don't). Now look at both covers.
Ontop of that it gives it that hyper realstic but stylized look(Ryu and Chun's face) and the feel they actually FIGHTING!. Now the Japanese cover, looks like they're just running/flying or worse RACING if not for the 5 characters (Ryu, Wolverine, X-23, Dante, Authur) holding their weapons at the ready and the title I wouldn't have a clue what the game was about.
and on Morrigan looking weird: She's a succubus, she's NOT HUMAN, she's not suppose to look normal and the only reason a succubus is consider hot is because they can appear to you as you desire them to.
YUhuh got forbid a marvel related game get an actual cover from a marvel comics artist .
While you are pimping a patchwork of ingame models just because "it's da japanese cover , and they are always betta!"
But by all mean keep moaning about a cover you'll get either way , unless willing to pay extra ... or bother printing .
The artist that worked on the american cover art has this unique realistic style so you can't expect him to draw in an anime style for characters like chun li and viewtiful joe which are in an anime based style. Characters like iron man, deadpool, capt. america, chris redfield and wesker look pretty awesome, but the other anime based characters like morrigan, chun li and some others, just don't look as good, making people look at them instead of the ones that look better. Granted it was a difficult task to work on but most fans apparently don't like it. Realism is so hard to do, and making a cartoon look realistic and "normal" is almost impossible, especially with characters like viewtiful joe. But overall its alright, but one thing im disappointed about is hulk. he can draw a better hulk than that...
The best cover art i've seen on mvc3 is definitely the one shown on the special edition, but they horribly just outlined it with white on black. the original is amazing-http://alvinlee.deviantart.com/art/MARVEL-vs-CAPCOM-3-PROMO-186035831?q=&qo=
Since when did a cover matter? It could be a white background with the Mvc3 logo and ill still buy it.
When I 1st saw the cover of the american one. I was like.............. wtf
