Daigo (Yun) vs. Tsukimiya (Guy) 2 - 1
the BEAST is rising man i wouldn't be surprised if daigo doesn't lose a single arcade edition american tournament this year everyone saw his ryu all the time and so they started to figure him out but with THIS is done the beast is gonna reign again
@10:
I agree. Daigo's been losing because his Ryu has been overplayed (U.S. and Japan) and people eventually figured him out. Now that he switched, people has to "re-figure" him out again (both the character Yun and the way Daigo plays Yun). I think that's the main reason (on top of Ryu's nerfs) that he changed his main.
Again, to people who "lost respect" b/c he switched, Daigo doesn't care or need your respect quite frankily. The man needs to make money in these tourneys. Daigo's not playing dirty per se(not sure how you can play dirty in video games) so there's nothing wrong with what's he's doing.
@Bibuki
I doubt it. Ryu will still be king when AE hits 100% guaranteed.
Ryu isn't popular because of Daigo, he's popular because he's easy to win with at a basic level, and because he's been the main character since SF1. I doubt many online players even follow the competitive scene.
Sure Yun will be popular in the beginning because he's new and all, but that won't last long.
@ donchilio, do you know how big Daigo has an influence on the SF community? When SF4 was first released there were too many Ken users. Why? Simply because Daigo used Ken in 3s. When videos started getting released of Daigo using Ryu in vanilla the tables turned and many people switched accordingly.
People are motivated by trends, people like jumping on bandwagons.
@Akro
And yet Ryu's still the most popular in AE even though Daigo said fireball characters are done and he himself switched to Yun? Yeah ok. Daigo's influence isn't that great.
Also, Ken was not popular in the early SF4 days because Daigo used him in 3s. I mean c'mon grasping at straws much? Daigo wasn't a big 3s player, so there's no way that's true.
But whatever, believe whatever you want. You'll see soon enough.
WHY isnt there any video of Daigo Playing AE? I keep looking EVERY WheRE and cant find anything
I wanna see the video of Daigo playing against Tsukimiya!!
@Akro, since when did you keep track of over 100s of thousands of SSF4 players? lol. Just because Daigo is popular doesn't mean people are playing and jumping on a Ryu bandwagon because of him man. I'm sure between 70 or 80% of the non-competitive players out there play Ryu because...he's the main character...and that's all they know him for. Just saying. And I do agree he is a lot easier on a basic level for people who don't know anything about SF and just play casually.
He didn't switch to Yun because people figured him out. He switched to him because he said he's always liked him and the only reason why he didn't use him in 3S is because he wasn't really all that into SF3, so he didn't bother learning him. If people were able to figure him out that easily, he wouldn't have gotten 1st in EVO, 1st in the Canada Cup, 2nd in SCR, 1st at EVO Asia-Pacific, etc. Yeah, he may have gotten 25th in Seasons Beatings, but that doesn't change the fact that he can still get top 3 pretty consistently with his Ryu.
Top players have little influence on the masses, because the masses can't grasp what the top player is doing, or they don't even follow tourney players. Most people I know just use who feels right, their are a lot of people that are great sagats on my list, and didn't drop him just because the tournament players did. Like fei long, sure he got popular among top players, but online there was no huge increase of him when Mago picked him up. Ryu was only used in the first place because he is very easy to understand and win with at a basic level. As for ken......most of the kens online are complete scrubs. And NO, being able to fckin kara throw does NOT make you a good ken.
I can kara throw with Blanka but that doesnt make me awesome,
...Just Sayin.
PC FTW
Agreed! Ryu will always be the most popular character in any Capcom fighting game. Not only in terms of playability but also in terms of familiarity. Hardcore and casual SF fans alike know who Ryu is. Ryu is Street Fighter!
Let's put it this way.
Suppose you had a math problem. There are two solutions. One solution requires just basic addition and subtraction. The other requires figuring out derivatives, functions, and limits. Obviously the easier route, right? That's Ryu.
Now I'm not sayin Ryu is lame and boring because way too many people play him and are afraid to venture out into learning a new character, but I'm just sayin..
Pff...Daigo's good but Yun as interested as I am to try his AE version seems a bit overpowered in ways. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
daigo is mean to now show any of his footage though....
funny lots of people are saying Ryu is the face of SF and that most people pick him because hes a SF icon, but 3rd strike the majority of people picked Ken why? because he was the best shoto in the game. nobody gives a Mcdamn if Ryu is popular, if Ken is a better character, everyone will pick him up. Yun will be the new SF online plague. watch.

Outside the fairly good players that played 3s ive seen more of the newer/ casual folks picking Ryu. Granted this is from playing on ggpo. And of course them newer players get ridiculed and get told to play ken for an easier win >_<.
All a matter of perspective. Sure enough if there was as much casual footage of players as ssf4 has im sure there would be more ryus than kens
Ken is like ryu, but is a little more shoryuken, because after all the move is like a SHOW RYU, KEN.
Since ken does it better he shows ryu how to do it, U see what I did there?
Ken is way better at shoryukens...Just Sayin.
:P
New players shouldn't be allowed at tournaments. If you haven't been in a tournament before, don't even try to practice or get better, because you never will no matter how long you do it because you're not diego or justin wong (bets playars eva).
Only THEY should be allowed at tournaments. Oh, and no characters other than the top tier should be allowed either. I'm getting tired of seeing all this variety and there's NOTHING more exciting than a mirror match.
/sarcasm
Seriously, though @48
People played Ken a lot more because a lot less casual fans played sf3. Therefore, most of the people who played sf3 KNEW the tournament scene, and were hardcore fans.
Hey thanks Scythe
I am one of those loyal players that stick with who they came to the dance with. I have liked the green guy since SFII and he fits my play style.
Yea he got his balls chopped off, but what are you gonna do, I didnt swing them around much in the first place.
Now we just need it released on effin PC.
PC FTW
(?? How is asking if his new char is main trolling? Maybe he changed his mind since this is AE?)
MALDA yea fersh a better fireballer. I couldnt get anything out of HA DO KEN
This technically won't even matter for the moment because AE isn't going to be used in tournaments, everyone still has to train with SSF4 unless capcom decides to release a patch anytime soon before the next EVO. It's great that they are doing well in it though
Ryu has been the top dog in SF4 and now SSF4....you really think he's going to disappear in AE? Are you not aware of the Trade into Ultra that Ryu got back, lol?
And since DP usually beats or trades with a lot of crap, I suspect it's going to be a headache...
Anyway, Yun/Yang are looking impressive. If we could get Rolento/Alex/Karin/Q in console AE I'd so pay for it. xD
I picked Zangief and recently decided Chun-Li will be my alternate. I'm sticking with them, no matter what.
Also, Ryu is picked so often because he represents simplicity and effectiveness.
You forget in order to be good with Yun/Yang, you have to maintain constant pressure. There are very FEW good Rufuses online, so I really doubt there will be many Yuns/Yangs. If they are not easy to win with, they won't get close to the shotos.
Ryu wasn't even close to the best in Super. Why would you people call Daigo a tier whore? He stayed with Ryu when even though he wasn't very good against the top 10 in the game. No doubt Ryu was a good character, but he wasn't even close to the best. Don't be calling Daigo a tier whore.
A whole lot of people will play Yun because they either played him in 3s, or they want to play someone new. Although Daigo plays some influence, most people that will play Yun won't play him JUST because of Daigo.
This is not true. The majority of SSF4 players don't even know who Daigo is.
I don't even get why being a "tier whore" is a bad thing. 99% of tournament players are so-called tier whores and the other 1% DO NOT WIN.
^ So you question why being called whore is a bad thing..?
Show me tournament pro players that arent tier whore AND successful with "crap" characters ?
I mean we are still waiting for Gen , T hawk and others to shine at tournament ?
There is nothing wrong with being fans of them , i love gen despite getting the short end of the stick most of the time sf4 evolves ... but let's not fake surprise when a pro choose a completely different path
Haha oh my...people are STILL going on about Daigo and tiers? Listen, he is a PROFESSIONAL gamer. He does not just play for fun, or for online battle points or whatever. He plays for money, to win tournaments. Obviously, you're gonna want the best tool for the job to help you do that. Just like if you were a sprinter, you'd want a pair of the fastest sneakers. The reason he used Ryu before was because he was one of the best ALL-ROUND characters in the game. He had all the tools needed to beat every other character. Now Yun has come along, and seems to be godlike. While at the same time, the fireball characters have all become worse. It just wouldn't be good judgement to stay with Ryu now. He wants to win consistently, so he's going to want the best character to do that. It really is as simple as that.
Play who you like, unless you need to win for a job, then play who you like from the top tier.
So if you go to war againts another country do you take an assult rifle or a Pistol. YOu use whats best for the job. It's not about the character it's about the player, Daigo has every right to use Yun and there is nothing you can do. He also does'nt care what you think. Being that it's in the arcades it's difficult to sit in the lab and try and find all of Yun's weaknesses. Until we get this on consoles this is gonna be a difficult fight.
Also I don't see any Zangief players up there which Yun and Yang loses to big time.
fei is too strong AE
