4Gamer recently uploaded several matches of top Japanese players going head to head in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Check out these videos to see Nemo (Yang), Hiropon (Seth), Mago (Sagat, Fei Long) Tokido (Akuma) and Itabashi (Zangief) get a bit of screen time with the new game.
The last match here, between Nemo's Yang and Itabashi's Zangief, is a bit dry, but it does show you the uphill battle the twins have against Gief.

Once Nemo learns not to jump and push buttons so much, his yang will be so dangerous. Seeing how zangief was able to grab him with U2 everytime with similar set ups. Gief wasnt able to jump in at all. Yang palm move kinda beats everything gief can use and his grabbable hitbox seem to move back alot during it. Looks like a uphill battle for both characters but in yangs favor. Lariat did not hit yang going behind him at around 3:30 so that is gonna be a problem seeing how gief didnt really ever had an opportunity to grab yang either.
Thanks for completely destroying Rose's 1 good viable wake up tool capcom, no wonder she's in the bottom 5 of all time least used characters. Just take her out of the game and replace her with another shoto if you're just gonna hate on her all day and night. Why bothering even giving her an option to pick an ultra, they're both completely worthless. U1 takes an hour to come out and leaves you open for 40 years on block (it doesn't even do chip damage) and now the main reason a lot of people picked u2 (since she lacks any type of reversal move that is even remotely good) is gone. Instead of giving an Ultra select option, you should just let the player choose the position she's going to raped in at least, and buff her face, she's looked like a chubby tranny since vanilla.
@14 Plus it builds meter very fast easier for EX punish moves on Gief hmm... I wonder if knockdown on EX GH would have tipped the scales more in his favor because it does look like it. So far these Gied vids show he can't apply the same mix up game pressure but Itabashi was playing pretty conservative so I'm still trying to get a good idea here.

With all the meter building hes capable of wake up ex command dash will get him out. Hes hit immune but not grab immune so knowing that only give gief the option to try and land his 1 frame grab before he gets away. Using an option select exGH to chase after dash isnt a smart thing to do due to yang recovery and distance. And he has to play conservative cause every jump in failed but 1 but standing far MP is very good against grounded yang.
Yang far Fk works sorta like chun lis hitbox wise as in like from the knee up there is no hittable hitbox from the looks of it. Too much snow around to get to testing crap.
What the hell did they do to Chun Li's ultra 1? Its not like that ultra is easy to combo into. Your opponent has to be in the corner. Now it seems that not only do they fall out of it, but it takes an eternity to recover from it. That move was only good for fireball spamming retards in the first place. Anyone with a brain knows not to throw a fireball against a down backing Chun with ultra 1. Now its completely useless because they took the combo ability away from it.

@21 i agree...i mean when u combo from ex legs it loses dmg now it loses EVEN more dmg and the opponent can come back and punish u severely >.>and i also agree on the fact that smart players will not use a fireball when u have charge so they made it pretty useless..

Chun li still has U2 for comboing purposes. And her anti fireball ultra wasnt the only one nerfed. Rufus flings people across the screen now, bison got his motion changed, seth can get hit by a fireball before U1 connects. Guess they wanted to put MORE emphasis on it being for anti fireballs not multi purposes.

If the smart people arent using fireballs anymore due to you having ultra THEN it served it purpose. Everyone has 2 ultras for a reason, whether you use it or not is irrelevant if it serves it purpose. SO them not doing fireball is not the ultra being useless.

Anyone calling Yang/Yun broken or OP are f***ing idiots. This game has been out for like what 2 weeks now? Why don't we wait for actual tournament results before even starting to talk about the twin tier placement. Even then we should be talking about their matchups and not just where they are on some list... as matchups dictate the list.

You can't use Seth anymore because you can't neutral / jump back fierce and you can't spam balls across the stage with Blanka. Sounds you're the type who refuses to adjust to its changes. I'm not a Chun-Li player. But seriously though... why would they do that? Now her damage potential got significantly lower. I know that I should also complain about Rufus' U2 nerf but unless there's something wrong with his U1 combo ability then he should be fine.
Being able to combo into an Ultra is one of the most important things that make a solid character. Isn't this the reason why Vega and Guile were so weak in vanilla?
Also, I know that Chun's Kikosho is still great for combos, but it was best used againts opponents that don't rely on fireballs. Againts characters who do, connecting U1 is now more situational.

I agree, but nerfing the damage would have been a better answer. The good thing about ultra 1 is that it still gave you the ability to hit the ultra even if your opponent wasn't dumb enough to throw a fireball. Now its just a scare tactic. Its wasn't like Rufus' ultra 2 which would suck you out of the air from mid screen and do full damage. It actually takes a little skill and positioning to make it work. Anyways I'm done ranting whats done is done.
i found a video of chun li doing hosenka after ex legs and it said it was AE and guess what it did go full animation though..im surprised the one in this video wasnt

Dude its doesnt always work like that by default, thats "after ex leg juggle" into ultra1 in the corner. Meaning dont try ex leg juggle into U1 in the corner. Its works similar to sagat U1 juggle in the corner as in all the hits dont land in certain situations.
just conveniently sagat dont take forever to float back down and his is meant for comboing purposes. chun li didnt work on everyone in the corner for full juggle.
And seeing the multitude of ways chun li can land U2 its only right that it doesnt do too much damage. Other characters have it worst overall when it comes to ultras selections.
TLDR- she didnt get shafted seeing how it does that only juggling in the corner, there are other ways to land U1 and MANY ways to land U2.

you sound bias towards chun li in your assessments sayin you should be complaining about rufus U2 but due to combo ability of U1 you dont. when chuns U2 is for combo ability and U1 is for anti fireballs. Just cause rufus does more damage on U1 doesnt exclude chun li from anything.
So now like rufus Chun li has to be more mindful when choosing ultras >combo ability or anti fireball<
I really want to think Chun's U1 was an occassional glitcch or something overlooked. If they really didn't want it to juggle, it would be better to have her drop the combo after the lightning legs part of Hosenka. This way looks glitchy, works out as a spiteful way to discourage U1 comboes, and is a couter-intuitive way to go about changing that move. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I can see them fixing that by console release.
On another note, Yang looks better every day.
Not playing Chun, but boy, that's just horrendous. The U1 only juggled in the corner, and not on every character. What's the point of that?
I mean, I could understand if they'd, like, make it hit for less damage during combos, but it makes no sense that she has to get punished for actually *landing* it.
I see Akuma's U2 is still as stupid-looking as ever.

It never really fully comboed correctly to begin with, and rose hitbox is kinda wonky which doesnt help the demonstration. It doesnt do that against everyone, you can try yourself at the arcade if you arent snowed in >:(. People are just over reacting as always.

@#46 its almost like his sf2 one where if you could sweep them you can jab spd them, while his far MP still has better range and more safe to throw out there in case of a whiff.Its not that much greater if you have actually seen the range it is now. And certain characters still have wonky hitboxes so i would like to see what vangief can come up with.
Maybe chuns u1 is a bug with specific properties behind it.
But I'd appreciate if one falls out off it like sagats corner ultras. on the other hand... cody's u2 does way less damage against airborn opponents / juggle and you get punished afterwards.
also - i think rufus u2 does soak into even against air borne but not at the range shown. however it does way less damage i guess.
Regardless of anything being able to fully punish Chun after hit confirming her U1 (even if it's character dependent) is a damn shame. That's just one example I appreciate making bad characters better, but good characters getting nerfed like this is unnecessary.

I'm alright-I don't play Chn and am not too phased. Fortunately for me, all my characters saw (virtually) nothing but buffs, so I'm cool and I may check out AE.
But it being some wonky hitbox issue vs some characters sounds about right. This doesn't seem like an intended way to change her Ultra.
I'm a zangief main and that SPD range is fuuuucking bs.

Of course I am biased. Chun is my main. Its very possible that in that particular situation caused her ultra to glitch. However, the video explained it as if that was how it was going to be for every situation. The ultra 1 corner juggle doesn't work on everybody anyway, however they did not fall out of it during the air animation of the ultra. She simply just whiffed the flip kick and it stopped. BTW Rufus' ultra 2 is broken that's why I used it as an example. As in comboing into her ultra 1 isn't broken unlike Rufus' retarded ultra 2. So why change it. Its just my opinion, its not like I'm screaming like a little kid saying that they kiled my character and I wont play AE because of it.

Yea i can understand shes your main, but if you gonna be comparing to someone else moves should try to look at both on equal grounds. And talking about the newer changes, Rufus broken U2 "isnt" the case anymore so the hatred towards it shouldnt be there. Also rufus couldnt really juggle into U2, straight throwing it out on the otherhand...
But yea it doesnt do that against everyone and i know you arent crying about like the many others are, im just the idiot trying to tell everyone else what they think is a huge nerf isnt the case if they were to actually try it out at the arcade seeing how we have some around now.

I understand where your coming from. I know its not fair to take away one characters ability while letting others go Scott free. Ultra 1 was intended to be an anti-fireball ultra from the beginning. I think they gave her the combo ability in the corner originally because it was the only ultra she had. Ultra 2 did solve her comboing issues so it looks like they finally may have realized she doesn't need her ultra 1 corner juggles anymore. However, I do think they should raise the damage/reduce scaling on her Kikosho, even if its just a little bit. I'm just salty lol... It sucks but i will get over it.
@powdered so far what have you been able to see from the Gief changes has it leveled the playing field on his bad matchups or no.
I am still disappointed that they included Dan in the SF4 game instead of others such as Rolento, Elena, Birdie, Hugo and other favorites. Dan is just ......meh.

Seth not being able to jumping back Fp anymore is already a given. Against the rest of the bad match ups not enough time yet putting the tests into action. Need more people playing them characters or other people uploading them match ups. And being a pad player doesnt help being at arcades wasting money i dont have. I really need to find that place where ever it at that has play for 25cents and hope its not a place where its snowed in.
Guile meter building with sonic booms is @$$ so that should reduce the frequency of him flash kicking fadc and exGH can get a counter hit knockdown if guile sonic booms too close.
I suck fighting against chun li and i cant get the jab spd to grab her far FK but her df+lk move was nerfed a bit so its slightly easier to jump in.
Akuma u2 hits crouching opponents so akuma can cancel back teleport into it and snag gief long sweep >:(

And too add, seems like Makotos ex karakusa has armor and throw invurn!!!, and low axe kicks(they take away cammys and give to makoto or im seeing things). And U2 can punish any of gief special moves if they whiff, I seriously hope she doesnt end up a bad match up for gief
A lot of people here really don't understand Chun Li as much as most of you say. Chun Li's Ultra 1 in SSFIV only juggled certain characters, but even if it did'nt juggle completly you had time to recover from it. This is really bad because now if you do this you may miss the full juggle and stay in the air and become vunerable.
Why you guys defending this nerf is ridiculous, even Nemo has ditched Chun Li for Yang, so if that does'nt tell you something I don't know what will. Chun Li is shot.
As for Ultra 2, while it is good in combos it's damage is laughable. I was ok with it until they nerfed her flip kick speed, now it's gonna be harder to nail jumpers and connect the Ultra 2. Everything now revolves around EX legs and EX SBK. Im glad I moved on to Guy. RIP Chun.
It really does seem like CAPCOM picks and chooses its top tier characters at whim. The mascots of the entire franchise, Ryu and Chun-Li are now considered barely tournament-worthy.
Instead, it's like they want every match to be Yun vs Yang, Yang vs Yang or Yun vs Yun.

RIP chun? chun is an impregnable wall. she's got a normal move for every, and i mean EVERY scenario. solid damage combos, awesome AA game, strong punish combos, powerful mixup game, fantastic back dash, a kara throw, and of course fireball destroying U1. i hope you were trolling man, honestly.
It might just be a Rose Hit-Box issue, but that's me trying to think positive on the matter.
But I gotta agree though, losing the ability to combo into U1 like that is a pretty hard hit considering how horribly U2 scales in combos... Though I usually see U2 users, I don't believe the hit to her U1 would cause that much issues with how good of a character she is.

Dont see anybody picking up rose after watching these videos. I thought zangief was gonna be a animal, but his GH knock down is questionable. His wake up game consists of knockdowns. Now he only has his lariet. Its gonna be hard for zangief to get inside anyones defensives. Looks like his ultra 2 is gonna beat out most anti airs. That chunli ultra 1 whiff could possibly be ROSE specific acutally. Rose has a really dumb hitbox like that. It's just like rose vs sagat. Sometimes Sagat's u1 won't finish against her. Until I see it doing the same on any other characters then Im not convinced.

There must be a reasoning behind all of these "balancing tweaks" in A.E., but so far, I really don't see how it is making this game any better than the console SSF4.
To be honest, all they had to do was keep most of the characters the same, but buff some of the low tiers like Makoto and Hakan, and we would be in business with even Yun and Yang the way they are now.
I hope I am not being a whiny pr1ck, but I don't really like any of these A.E. changes to the characters(even though I hate Seth, but his jumping Fierce was taken away??? not cool). I really hope this is just an Arcade only gimmick and they give us another version of A.E. later for console that isn't so nerf-friendly.

What's the point of this arcade edition? SSF4 is the ultimate vision of SF4. I think that's more than enough. Stop with the balance of characters. Jeez!
I don't mean to be rude HKsupastar but I don't think it's that simple. I really think some of the nerfs are necessary to truly make it balanced in my opinion. In order to improve some you must take away from others.
To make a character better doesn't always mean giving them buffs. Lots of what makes characters bad is match-up problems. What better way to improve match-ups then to dull some of the tools of their problem opponents?
My point though is that it's not as simple as "buff every character". I'm sure the process of balancing isn't so straightforward. I sense your frustration but...we can only wait and see.
Just a thought but many characters fell out of the juggle before halfway whats the chances this isnt a nerf imma go check out in training with rose to see if she's one of em
Nah stick a pin in her she's done. Well time to find a new main i guess now that she's had her u1 nerfed u2 maybe easy mode but it damages nothing and was not fun. She's had her aa nerfed and they added more dive kick characters to the game. She was never top tier imo but now she'll be lucky to be upper tier

That was a f****n' unnecessary nerf to Chun Li's ultra 1! That has never happened since Vanilla! You either fall out of the ultra right before the launcher or you get launched not fall out when you've already been launched. Unbelievable Capcom! It seems like you a**holes don't know what the hell you're doing with the characters at all. You strengthen her df.+lk in SSF4 and now you nerf it. You nerf an already hard to juggle ultra to the point where landing it from hot confirm ex legs leaves Chun punishable just because she decides to use the ultra! WTF! Oh and by the way, Rose is one of a few characters who actually get juggled for the full animation of Chun's ultra 1. More characters with dive kicks and not even giving other characters ways to deal with them. The least you could have done was give Ex SBK full invincibility, a faster start-up and vacuum properties like in 3s but nope. It's still as useless as f**k to use as an anti-air against dive kick spammers. And with df.+lk getting nerfed...oh well, spam away! No wonder Nemo decided to drop Chun. I'm happy to stick with SSF4. the stupidity of you Capcom guys really amaze me sometimes!

The Chun-Li thing is really stupid it's like there trying to get people to stop playing the game all together why would it not hit. We/I the player earned the right to ex legs in the corner and if I have the skill enough to get my ultra off let me get what we/I deserv
I'm appalled just like so many people with some of the changes so far. However, we shouldn't be too quick to judge everything until we give it a go (heh, probably find more nonsense to be honest). I feel confident Capcom will fix some of these changes once the community makes its voice heard. It's just that at its current stage they can't go make a patch all over to refix the "fixes". Rose U2 seems fair, she might not get complete safe invul. but she does get the soul satellite for longer even when she gets hit. Rufus U2 . . . please fix that Capcom, it's lost it's purpose unless you can juggle with it more easily from some sort of other combo. I hope someone shows more various changes. Seriously, if I had access to one of those arcade machines and had to wait in line I'd tell the other player you can win, just let me try stuff and record it for people dying to know_^)

@powder so the Sagat match-up got that bad hmmm... it was already hard enough in the last two versions they just want to make it down right impossible I don't believe that Makoto can be hard match since she has to fight upclose where Gief can counter her most of the makoto stuff sounds the same IMO that it wont be to hard. Also how about the supposed nerf to Guile's Air Throw how did that work out.

Yea the sagat match up is still pretty messed up seeing how his damage went up a bit. not having any knockdown from a distance, cant seem to build any >momentum< against a decent sagat.
exGH hitting him after backdashing wont knock him down so it works in his favor as you wasted a meter and he can start building space again with standing roundhouse, stopping any attempt to focus dash in after him.
Also with the makoto thing she may have to fight close, but her ex karakusa ignores gief SPDs. And her Aerial axe kick can be done pretty low to the ground to avoid giefs pokes and grab and she can do that alot due to her back dash being good. Think its pretty bad when Gief gotta try and poke makoto away due to her speed.
And gief cant jump against her either really with her new hitboxes and forwards dash speed. While its all fine if you have the momentum going cause her defensive options are kinda mediocre. But her running rampant is bad if she knows what she is doing.
i can break it down a bit here if you want.
And about guile air throw, people was saying the range got nerfed but i havent seen it yet. Maybe gief got a big air hitbox i dont know. The extra 1 frame start up on it is nothing noticable its the range that was the problem.
