Yes , I agree. Very insightful video and very well commented. I would MUCH rather see more videos of you than of those of F.Champ. Ugh.... just saying his name leaves a bad taste in my mouth........
pretty inspiring .. and pretty useful not just for gen but for all characters really ... many characters have moves that alter their hitboxes to make them safe from fireball pressure ... and the walking focus works with almost everyone (except sim i suppose .. too unsafe cuz his forward dash is too slow)...
its nice to see what options gen would have as this isnt a match up we would come accross everyday..
great job!
Some of this is Gen no Brainers(Catching the start up frames of a fireball and or using your projectile invincible frames) other stuff (Anti Air Traps using U2 or which projectiles are safe to Crane Crouch, yeah I'm calling it the Crane Crouch, under) is very helpful and I can kinda see why Capcom might take those kinda uses into consideration and nerfed gen, though there was more reactionary stuff than actual offensive.
Oh yeah and if you're reading this Kiryu use the song "Take the sword" in the next one since it's less repeative and fits the tone of your material
I know the last bit was set up but.. it looked pretty epic when you see them only do a few frames of air fireball/air jump and everything slows down and Gen does his ultras. If SSF4 was a (good) movie and Gen was in it, THIS is what it'd look like.
#9 they may be no brainers. but these are meant for people with little or no Gen experience. 98% of Gen players asking for help need this kind of help. So instead of talking way over their head with stuff that won't even work if they can't even get in on projectile players, well it's just pointless. A lot of players are very impatient, and don't know how to play patient. I find the instructions I gave help people with being a bit more strategic in the way they approach the game. I apologize for the repetitive music, but almost anything that doesn't have words, or is very short didn't fit what I was looking for. I wanted to use something that was darkwave. So I went with a producer named Akuma. I mainly use Drum n Bass for my videos but.... the snare and other samples wouldn't have gone with my voice. Same with some hip hop. I wanted something that was a bit more ambient. I've been producing music for a long time, and know hz, Khz and sample levels really well. I didn't have time to master my audio, I just wanted to get this video made.
Legendary Kiryu - I hope this does not come across as offensive, but are you a Godzilla fan? Kiryu was the name of Mecha-Godzilla If I am right. I used to be very big into Godzilla movies and was just wondering if you were a fan as well. I know that Legendary Pictures is going to reboot another Godzilla film with MUCH MORE emphasis on the "real" Godzilla and the film will start shooting sometime next year with a 2012 release. I personally, am stoked for this. Much like I am X - Men : First Class.
Either way, I was just wondering. Hope you had a Merry X-Mas as well as all the other people who come to EventsHub to blog. Have a safe New Years people!!!!
Hey, great video, I play Gen almost exclusively (with a little Hakan and Blanka for good measure) and I this was still very helpful.
I do have a question for the other Gen players out there though, I just got a fightstick for Christmas and feel like a total handicap when playing with it, I know I'll get used to it, but do you guys feel like fightstick > ps3 pad for Gen?
Great video and music! I'm not a gen player, but I watched it since it talks about getting pasted zoning. You have to be able to play decent before you can play good, and that requires this type of knowledge as well.
ExclusiveorGate: It doesn't matter what you use, it's about how well you use it. Wolfkrone plays Viper on a pad/controller and he's brilliant with it. Though there are some techniques that can be used on a fightstick that would be harder on a controller, it's just what is comfortable. Try both and in time you'll find what you like more.
@ 15 - Ya know , I just got an arcade fightstick for SSF4 as well and I am having a difficult time transitioning to it. It has been over 10 years since I used a joystick and it has not been kind lol. I am sure I will become used to it again, but it is tough to switch from a directional pad to using a joystick. At least, for me it is. I keep forgetting the other two buttons, focus and throw. O.o
@ Nikon- Ahhh I gotcha! lol. Thanks for clarifying. Was hoping there was another Godzilla fan out there somewhere lol. thanks for the reply.
nothing new but nice vidéo, thanks to kiryu ^^ if it help other gen users or beginners, it's good.
i just want to add some precisions for a few things :
for a jump in, you can use crane lk too, less damage but it works perfectly... crane mp is good too ( it's also a good move for a custom overhead ;) )
mantis 2 hk after mp => mp is a good frame trap, but i personnaly prefer 2mp => hands (=>fadc)in the actual version of ssf4 but it make combo in AE, so no more frame trap with it -_-. reset with hp => hands can be good too but it's dangerous (you need to go forward tightly to do that...)
the focus kara-stance is pretty hard to use in match, especially against good players( OS... ), don't use it a lot...
btw, nice gen, nice vidéo. i just have to applause XD (me, i don't have the patience to make some tutorials by myself)so keep goin' kiryu ^^
@onifuz. I know you are no stranger to Gen. But this video was not intended for high skill players like yourself. When people keep saying it's nothing new, and it's for beginners. That actually makes me quiet happy. That means I did my job. This video was for total Gen n00bs.
I'll be first to admit it. I'm not a Gen pro, I'm not top tier Gen. I don't think I'm the best Gen out there. BPs are just points. However, I do get a lot of questions asking how to do, or deal with certain scenarios. So I felt that I should make a video that would help ease people into Gen so then I can move on to some more videos.
It's Gen's like you Onifuz, that I myself learned from. So my hats off to Gen's like you. I will admit Rhyllis and Yeb are my two main reasons for picking up Gen late in Vanilla.
but on the subject of jump-ins. I like Mantis LK as well. Crane j.MP is probably the most unused and under rated air to air. I use it a lot vs guiles. Same with are jabs and shorts. They come out fast and work well vs guiles air throw.
I'm glad you stuck with Gen Onifuz. I remember you had multiple messages on your youtube channel that you gave up on him. Then when I saw you were thinking about picking him back up, I posted that I was super happy. You're a good asset to the Gen community.
Damn nice..and well explained..!!
