It looks like her Ultra 2 is really fast now as well.
Is there any videos of Juri ? I like what I am seeing with Makoto. I think that should satisfy anyone who thinks she is broken. I personally just started using her (fiddling around) and though she is slow, she has a lot of standing moves that lunge her forward. Her f and Rounhouse kick both as well as her fierce punch. She is tough to learn tho I will admit. But that was a fierce Makoto player there. Hmmmm, I wonder how often we will see her .
Dang... Makoto has gotten better in Arcade Edition. That's insane!
It seems her overall speed has increase drastically you see the video and it looks like it was speed up, thats how fast she have become. There's a moment while fighting against M.Bison where on wake up she does a s.MP and Bison his EX Psycho Crusher and Makoto was able to block it anyway and they were face to face.
Her EX Hayate looks extremely fast, her Karakusa might have gained a bit of more range(she still does that little taunt into her stance thing) her upward punch is faster and more useful.
One thing I had problems with on SSFIV is her HP>Hayate the timing was strict for this combo most of the time i get Ultra or Shoryuken before the Hayate hits I wonder if they change that
Ken will be my rush down character in AE. He looks solid.
As an El Fuerte player, i'm glad to see that the reported nerfs were an exaggeration: Guacamole air grab looks as fast as before, s.LP and c.LK have more range and seem more useful. Ultra Sparks looks a little slower though, but Giga Buster is the ultra of choice in most matchups anyway.
@19
What are you talking about? This is exactly how Makoto was played in 3S, and she seems to be back to the way she should be - Very fast, great pokes and footsies, lots of tricky guessing games, and a very hard punisher.
From what I see they increased her dash speed a bit and cut some recovery frames from it but took a bit of distance from it, i also see a lot of karakarakusas, and they seems easier to execute here. the other things seems like the same as SSF4, it is still very hard to get inside and no wake up game against shotos.
well well well... this is making me soooooooooo happpy.... being that im a guy player (formally blanka, thank god i made the switch). its time to blow up the tier charts n start all over... cant wait to see all those shoto fags in the mid to bottom tier n see how those fags that play them have to work a lil for wins... cant wait for the update to be announced then released... hahahahahahahahaha......
It's really hilarious how Capcom wastes their time on even coming up with gimmicky, shenanigan-dependent characters like this idiot Makoto whose only moves involve punching and kicking with some special effects. Not to mention going as far as to give her improvements. Oh well, nothing to complain. I'm sure my Chun Li will still win this match without having to break a sweat.
Aww I was hoping for some good Gouken stuff. That other video was some guy who wasn't good at him. Didn't really show much of what Gouken is capable of doing.
This fellow makoto puts a smile on my face.
I love the following buffs: 1000 health, reduced recovery on dashes, an actual antiair fuki, and last but not least that beautiful cr.lk.
Im going to put yang on a sidetrack for now.
Deejay is going from main to sub to make room for MAKOTO
@ JOJO
you shouldnt say anything untill you get your hands on the game. they say the guac has a bit more recovery so your not gunna able to see it. and if you look at his tortilla its alot slower now. if you live in cali or newyork you should go to an arcade and try it out. ima go to CTF next week
SOOOO nice to see characters in this game having success other than yun and fei long, nice to see other characters at all really.
The ken who beat that makoto was really good, makotos armor on her choke really seems to help. Fun character to watch
I like how Makoto has changed. She is so damn fast. Wish the video maker didn't cherry pick though, only showing his wins.
The Makoto is finally good. That Guile was shooting sonic booms faster than any shoto :D
Is it me or does Makoto seem more Evil :(
@33 crispylinks77
Lol. The video maker did not cherry pick anything. This is the format you will commonly see in arcades. Winner continues playing, loser switches out. The Makoto player kept winning, thus he stayed on longer than other players.
Cool, but I hope she doesn't get bandwagonned now by the people who were "going" to use her but didn't because she was bottom tier
@jojo
Guac is more punishable as you can see in the first match, usually you'd be able to tech those grabs right after he lands, and U2 WAS the Ultra of choice but now his Ultras are much more even. I use U1 more now but U2 is still decent at least
@monkeychaos
His tortilla is the same, however they took away it's invincibility. This means you can't anti-air jump ins with it unless you are far enough to avoid the attack. Harder to use but still the same. I need to play more but it's not as bad as players had first feared. His jab buffs are pretty good if you know how to utilise his pressure game. His up-close game was dangerous before but now it's even better
This game is amazing, months of development and when finally see the light . . . the same sh.t, same stages, same slow and booring game, same characters (oh no, wait, 2 MOOOREEEE CHARACTEEEERS !!! holy sh.t wow !!!), and you know what? they gonna sell it.
F.cking capcom, i think that from years ago, no one game of capcom's game are only to make money like this (Sf4, SSF4, AE, Alt. costume) , its a game with no one innovative move like the parry or the snapback or just defense or perfect cancel or something. The worst thing of all is, thik about the game, i dont want to play in a game where the most important thing are the Character and not the player, tell me more than 5 characters in SSF4 who win a tournament? (ok, i think im wrong here but, only to make see my point of view). Do you remember 3rd strike? the game where the best character are chun? and where the best player in the world is kuroda? well, he can won with almost any character because he is the best player. But tell me "justin wong can win with any character in a US tournament" of course not.
Thats what im talking about. Sorry if i wrote so much but, i am really disappointed about capcom's business strategy, i think that the company must worry a little bit more about the game, and a little bit minus about the money. I really think that this game sucks.
It's important to remember this is clearly a good Makoto player.
crono: Capcom has many other projects to handle and they are still tweaking SF for us. Learn to appreciate things. ;)
I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing so far, I think AE will turn out much better than expected.
Makoto looks devastating. Obviously the player knows the character, but Makoto's moves seem way safer, more prioritized, and a hell of a lot faster. Which means she can go much farther in a tournament setting, I hope to see more of her.
Guile and Sagat still look solid as ever.
@Raven
as a Makoto player.....I love to see all the tweaks actually helping her. Last night I went to a tournament (@8 on the break) and I used Makoto and lost to Demon Hyo....I asked him what could have done to do better? this is what he told me... "honestly....use a real character"...if you use Makoto now and go to tournaments regularly you know the plight of playing your ass off and losing. I've learned Makoto as much as I feel like I can learn her. and still find myself losing matches to people I should be beating because of tools that my character is lacking. But from what I see, they really helped her out. and she needed those tools to be viable.
Just because she looks good in the video doesn`t really mean that you can play to the same potential. There were promising Makoto players before she got any adjustments. If you played her well in SSF4, AE changes will only make her gameplay better and doesn`t make your skills better. Like #43 said this is a good Makoto player.
Yuns theme is AWESOME. Atleast if i constantly have to play against him i wont mind for that reason.
Damn shame they didnt decrease the recovery of crlp by a frame...idont want to have to fight him slowly.
makoto is looking good, but it was a pro playing.
in other hand... el fuerte seems to will be a even more dificult character to main, still it seems that those buffs in his ligh normals help a little bit.
Vega seems good, faster dash, faster cr.mk, that ex rolling combo (still you cant combo into ex rolling...), but I dont see the ex ST buff into a viable reversal and a better priority or hit box on ultra 1 u.u
AE look good to me,(except for the fei buffs and the no nerf for chun,) well at least is more balanced this game
I know that I am about to sound noobish but that Makoto player is sick! How does he/she focus attack to absorb hits so accurately at the last minute like that? Does each character focus attack response time faster than each other? I main Juri and I am trying to reach a competitive level and need some advice.
@19
Quit bein silly...she is far from easy to play with...even with these changes noobs are still going to have to work for their wins...she needed those changes...all thats changed now is that opponents wont get awarded free punishes because of most of her recovery time...the ball is in our court for a change now... so deal with it or quit playing....Long live Makoto!!
And for most of you screaming that she didnt that much and blah blah...the player is just good...well you are right about one thing...this player is good BUT she def has changed...dont get me wrong this player is good but most of the mind games you see played here are nothing compared to wat a player like say V-Ryu could do...the video is really just showing how her basic mechanics have changed and made her a more in your face powerhouse...and also most of the opponents in this video really didnt seem to know the matchup so dont make this a yun/yang movement and overhype her just yet....awesome Makoto play though hands down...cant wait to see her full potential after release :D
wow, so bold with the dash karakusa!!! Really inspiring Mak play. Also U2 looks way quick on start up now!!!
As a Makoto player I'm glad the buffs to her really help her game in AE and the player in this video made great use of them, but at the same time he doesn't really show anything that advanced, he's just solid all around, however I'm not taking anything away from him, he played her well,but the people getting hype watching him win I don't think quite understand why she is a lot better. That just looked like a good Makoto player blowing up people who either don't know the match or were doing dumb things and losing to him while he was going on a winning streak. I'm very interested to see how she's handled in the hands of someone like Vryu when he ends up playing AE.
Faster dash makes me happy, but this really didn't show anything too new. Buffed U2 will be great for wakeup mind games. Wakeup into U2 and do the short distance version to make them burn meter or whiff it hardcore.
To everyone overhyping makoto, don't get too over excited.
I already play makoto and after seeing people play her like J.Wong and VRyu, I can only say that the character is underrated. Yes she is better, yes she won't be low tier, but perhaps the reason as to why she seems so strong here is the player and not the character.
She's already really strong to me in SSF4, and in AE it mostly looks like they "fixed" some of her moves that were clunky. The fukiage was bad, so they fixed it, it seems it can punish non-safe meaty air attacks and the hitbox is better. All that means is that it's easier to land the 328 to 400 damage anti-air combo she already has. It's also easier to do EX hayate in the corner followed by fukiage juggle.
Sure, I think she needed those little adjustments like the dash, the increased stamina. But as a whole, they're not individually that much of a game changer. 50 increased stamina is a slight advantage. 1 frame faster forward dash once again is a plus, but can you really call it a game changer?
From this video, what's a game changer is really the now viable fukiage, the faster ultra 2. Sure, I'll give you that the tweaks are gonna give her much more exposure and they still gave her something she needed IMO. Perhaps they are worth mroe than I think, but from this video, it's really fukiage and U2. I'd also say the backdash and her front HK (Hop over knockdown enemy) seems much faster than I expected.
But really, I think everyone here is overhyping because she's already really good, only underestimated. The biggest capcom did was giving her the exposure she deserved.
@#65
while you are right on many grounds, you dont really seem to mention how alot of other characters got toned down. Which indirectly helps makoto more than just her changes.
If you havent gotten to test it yet her Fukiage hit box is almost eliminated on her upperhalf of her body, so being able to land a simple anti air 4 hitter as you said 300-400 something damage is nothing to sneeze at along with a healthy amount of stun.
Her U2 travels across the screen pretty damn fast, think its able to punish blocked honda heatbutts.. need to test that out better, no good way to test positioning yet. And her karakarakusa with lk works almost as good as her 3s counter part which is also a big part you didnt mention.
Granted she is a bit over hyped seeing how her defensive options are still kinda crap and the game feeling a bit more offensive oriented could backfire against her if she loses momentum almost like in 3s.
NO Matter what ppl claims or says, SF4AE IS NOT balanced. Im pretty sure that there will be another rebalance after the game comes out for a period of time. Step 0)Capcom's team could only do so much in those few months, step 1)the public has to be exposed to the game to realize what needs to be balanced. THE ONLY way to balance this game is release it, then step 2)re-balance after 6 months. (I know ppl want more characters)BUT Don't add more characters, Once another character is introduced into the game, doesn't matter how capcom balance it, IT WILL go back to step 1 again.
That's the way i see it.
c.MK as an Anti-Air made me laugh. And that it puts them in a situation where you can get a dash under crossup is also giggles.
Good Makoto work in these vids. Really enjoyed watching them.
@51 (lynx):
EX Rolling Crystal Flash can still be used to go under fireballs, and I think you can combo it from close standing HP.
@64
Yea guile is officially terrible in AE going by professional opinions, what's new. Yazu is a japanese player that was OK maining Guile in vanilla, he switched to Yun because yun is balanced according to people here.
Also, Dieminion who also mained Guile in vanilla is saying he's thinking about switching...he had a book to write on how bad AE guile is.
So, when 2 of the best Guile players would rather play vanilla Guile than AE guile, what does that say? I was just thinking yesterday that they could port vanilla guile over to AE and it'd seem like a buff. He had more meter gain, did more damage after all.
I've been playing Makoto online and I have to say she good but far from perfect. Her normals are on par with Juri and Chun I would say. You have to work really hard to win with her. I have a new respect for Makoto players and a weird foot fetish for Makoto :D
The hardest thing I've found about playing her is her walk speed and dash. I'm more use to the precision spacing of Chun and Vega.
DEAR LORD MAKOTOS DASH IS FU-KING FAST
