these tutorials have to be the some of best ive seen for leveling up excecution...
great job ! and keep it up !
just got a stick, this is way too difficult for me.
I only use dhalsim good on a stick, the rest is terrible.
@4
Trust me, sometimes you never get used to it.
I started playing this game on a fightpad and a few months in, got a TE stick to "improve" my game.
After 7 months of playing on a stick exclusively, I picked up my old fightpad for kicks and started playing infinitely better (that's with a several month long hiatus). I do better button press wise on a stick, but have so much more control with a d-pad.
So, I put my pretty Chun stick in a box and went back to my Chun fightpad. Couldn't be happier.
I just moved from stick to pad this month. About two weeks in.
Combo's are infinitely easier and I actually finished the last two Akuma trials I couldn't get on a pad.
But against a live opponent I'm just awful. I figure I just need more practice though so I'm just trudging along.
I went from pad to stick as well, I have a fight pad and using guy it works very well, my only issue with it is when i'm doing very fast motions it ignores my diagonal inputs which led to needless special whiffs, combo wise my timing was better at first on pad because thats all i had for years, i got an SE stick and the buttons sucked until i replaced them with sanwa's and now I have 2 TE sticks and now I can't see myself going back to pad. that is of course unless they fix the dpad, and for the record I own 2 ryu pads a c.viper and a ken and i had the same problem with each one. i threw a lot of money into this lol
@ pad usner
i really don't see any PROS: in pad. when you guys do combos does it even link? a human Thumb can only do so much before it start to cramp up and blister. how do you guys do Ultra? i couldnt imagined.
oh well whatever floats your guys boat.
I went from pad to stick but sadly I can only play the charged characters. I cant for the life of me do the DP or D+F motions consistently. The funny thing is I went back to the pad and I can barely do a flashkick lol. So pretty much if I get the stick hooked up prepare to fight guile all day but if you see a pad in my hand it's Cody time all day...what a pain lol
Oh yeah the tutorials on double tapping and sliding are great. Not sure if I have any use for it for Guile tho
@ #8
Same here. I can see progress though, stick with it!

Are you serious...? "when you guys do combos does it even link?" has to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day.
FYI, I can plink fine on pad (kara throws are no problem), have better execution in general compared to stick, and have better control of my character's movement. My thumbs don't cramp up because I've been playing fighting games on pads my entire life and have built up muscle strength in that area.
Also, I do ultras by inputing the required motion. Christ...
When it comes to which is better there is plain and simple no answer..whatever works for u. Im a stick user myself but but know there are many a great player on pads. How they do there moves is beyond me but ive never attempted any advanced moves like plinking pianoing etc on a pad but im sure its just practice, the angle you hold the pad at just seems awkward for the execution but like i said its probably just takes some time. I believe pads may actually be more beneficial to grapplers like gief due to the less area needed to cover the spd buffering. theres no denying there is plain and simple just less area to cover on a d pad than a joystick. But then again how many pad users do u see winning big tournaments hmmmmmm...
@20 I plink on a fightpad by dropping my thumb between the two buttons while angling it to make sure I hit one of the buttons first. I don't piano but slide my thumb across the buttons. It takes practice, but gets natural after a while.
@21 I agree that it is completely up to player preferences but get pretty annoyed at the ignorance and belittling of pad play. Currently there are a few top players prepping the pad. On the top of my head, Vangief, Shizza, and DMG Inthul.
I actually went out and bought a stick after about 3 days of playing on PAD in SSFIV, not because of all the hype, but just because after long play on a PAD my fingers would be KILLING ME. Once I got the stick I played better because my hands didnt hurt
Mash df df+P/K and you too will be a SF4 Master.
