Capcom staffers left a not so subtle message about some of the rumors floating around recently concerning Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Christian Svensson also jumped in to inform fans that they will likely know the entire roster before the game is launched on February 15, 2011, and he went on to talk about how MvC2's re-release came to be.
I read a rumor that there is only 8 stages in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, what gives?
Svensson: I'll warn you not to believe everything you read on the Internet.
So, we're getting more than 8 stages?
Svensson: As a warning, I didn't say there were more, or less. I just said, beware what you read because not everything you read is true.
Will all of the characters in MvC3 be revealed before launch?
Svensson: I could be wrong as I don't know the full schedule, but I think you'll know pretty much the whole roster officially by launch.
Capcom saw Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as an old game and didn't think it was big enough to justify a retail release, but they wanted to release the game only as a download. Or they're being cheap and see MvC2 as nothing more than a cash in. — Veder Juda
Svensson: Just jumping in here for a moment, being the person who championed this project internally and did all of the negotiations with Marvel.
Our intent wasn't initially to "cash in" (though we're happy for the title's success). The objectives of MvC2 were to:
1. Give fans what they were asking us for.
2. Extend our learnings/influence/marketshare in the downloadable game space (which I have also been a key driver of within the company). A re-release of this nature would not see widespread retail acceptance.
3. Reestablish relations with Marvel.
4. Reset the Versus brand and give it some new visibility in order to set the stage for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and ultimately what we hoped what would be Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (and subsequently was).
Yes, we hope to be financially successful on as many projects as possible so that we can KEEP making projects in the future. I know that seems heartless but them's the rules. 8) You should be happy that it (or any other game we make) was successful. Not every game is.
Think it's pretty damn obvious that the company's intent is to make money...but that doesn't mean they can't do it simply by delivering what fans want and in the fashion he stated. People stating they only do things to "cash in" and hold issue are f*cking stupid. If they were a company that ignored their fans and f*cked them over at the cost of money sure (cough*activision*cough), but Capcom doesn't. You can nit pick DLC and stuff, but really any move they do as angry pissed off fanboys who have no idea what they're talkin bout.
Some rumors may be true....them stating that is a way to avoid the question (as they're supposed to do) but also leave it so you can't pin what rumors are true or not. A lot of confirmed and deconfirmed info has been treated the same way...so stating it means a yes...means you aren't paying attention.
You know... they might have had plans to release new characters at Jump Festa but decided not to because of the twitter rumor. Capcom wants to show the illusion that they hold the power and the cards in this ordeal. If they released new characters this weekend, then it would mean that the twitters were real. However, because they didn't release any new characters, they now have the ability to say that "We shouldn't believe everything we read on the internet."
Whether they had originally planned to show new characters or not, I feel like they are just trying to make sure that THEY have control of their publicity.
The official facebook just ran a little contest, where you can win prizes by guessing who is gonna be revealed next and when. It's obviously not gonna be who the rumors said, when the rumors said it. Stop drinking the damn Kool Aid. That last "leak" was fake as all hell.
fake rumors are fake. defending them and making conspiracy theories dont make them true. if they pulled characters they were going to announce cause of rumor lists they wouldnt have announced anyone for ssf4.
people making stuff up.
Seriously People Give Capcom a break!
They try and add new people into the mix and all you do is bitch cause your fave MvC2 Fighter never made th cut!
Ooooo 8 stages im gonna go mad
Oooooooo My fave character isnt in im gonna go mad
Seriously stfu and save your judgement til you play the damn game!
Could be worse they could go like Acitvision and make you charge extra for a few new stages and possibly a few fighters.
Stop Bitching wait til its released, If you dont like it then dont play it!
@17
why do you want another shoto ?
isn't oni akuma in ssf4 enough jesus
in a game where there is such a wide vairty of characters to chose from it amazes me how people want characters with styles that overlap. I PRAY akuma doesn't get in this game and for once capcom focus on diversity there really is no excuse.
i've got nothing against shotos maybe if we had a roster of 50 + then yh.
God would this site please give some credit to the people who ask questions? This is like the 5th time I've been quoted in a story on this site with no recognition.
Well I'd take Svenssons word for it.
As I always say, the pro's get insider info and get to play the games earlier before the public. If I am not mistaken, @ 0:56 onwards from the video, Gootecks says that Marvel will have roughly 55 CHARACTERS!

@#1:
The guy isn't "BS'ing" at all. He DID say that "of course, they want to be successful in their projects so that they can CONTINUE to make MORE projects" - and I am JUST paraphrasing what he said. Think about it: With a BAD product and BAD customer service, how could ANY company hope to have "return customers"? If Marvel versus Capcom 3 turns out to be a "cash only" venture and meant to "cheat" all of the fans out of their hard-earned money, WHY would anyone retain confidence in Capcom IF/WHEN they would eventually make a Marvel Versus Capcom 4 or any other sequel...? I agree with #8 (Pwn_Star) in that people who b*tch and whine over Capcom just trying to cash in on fan exploitation, such as had been implied and insinuated on many a site, regarding this subject, are "f*cking stupid".
Capcom does what it can to keep the fans, aka the CUSTOMERS happy, for the purpose of KEEPING their jobs, not just so that they can pay their own bills and living expenses, but so that they can KEEP the fans' collective love, so that said fans will be MORE likely to buy/invest in any future products they would be able to fund and produce. These products and services are for US, as much as the company, because without US writing their paychecks, we get NO MORE video games likes these from them. Sure, I would prefer that certain characters were included in the game and that some that were included weren't my TOP choices for the final roster, but I am happy that the game exists at all.
If anyone doesn't like it and wants to be spoiled little brats about it, they can go play something else, and spend mommy's and daddy's money on some other video game on February 15th of 2011. Whine all you want, but you won't always get EVERY little thing you want. -And it's not about getting what you want - it's wanting what you've got. Sheryl Crow said that in a song, I believe. Rick Astley says that it's not what you have, it's what you have in the right gear.
Get your heads out of your @sses, STFU, and log onto XBL when the game comes out, so that I can JUGGERNAUT HEADCRUSH your @sses.. --With Shin Mecha Chun Li! :3
You guys act like the world revolves around almond joy. Do you think MvC3 would be possible if no body spent money on Capcom Games? You guys need to get off this "Do it for the fans." Dedication Bull****. If I make a game im gonna do it because I want to be stankin rich, end of story.
I like Svenson, he may not tell you what you want but at least he tells it straight, no beating around the bush when it demands attention unlike some people we know (Im looking at you Ono-san, im looking directly at YOU!!!).
By the way, all of the rumor crap going on might be silly to most people, but as much as Capcom representatives will caution all of us to not believe everything we read on the internet, all of it serves them as a PR "snowball". Word of mouth is advertising and it's always FREE. People who spread rumors, people who b*tch and moan over the rumors, and people who try to counter rumors with more and more speculation - all of these people are advertising this game, FOR Capcom, for FREE. -And you wonder why Yoshinori Ono is SUCH a huge troll...? All he does is kick the snowball off of the highest ledge he can, and makes sure that at least ONE of us nerds/geeks sees it happen, and with a Blanka action figure in the picture.
Continue to help Capcom advertise for free, while Yoshinori continues to jack off his little pecker under his computer desk at Capcom Japan, as he sees the scores and multitudes of Tweets come pouring in, with uproaring speculation.
-And yes, I'm sure he giggles, the whole while.
Since he said there are more than 8 stages, I'm thinking 9 or 10 probably. Maybe we'll get a reveal close to Christmas I hope.
The game's only shoto is ryu and akuma plays a LOT differemtly than ryu so it's not wasted space. Besides, I don't want to have a game full of totally different characters with different inputs and styles because then it gets tedious to learn in such a fast paced game when you have to learn to play 3 characters effectively, as "casual" as that sounds. Akuma is way more difficult to play than ryu.
Lol, I'm not understanding how anyone can have even the slightest stab at Capcom for its Main priority being to make money. Seriously, Capcom is not a charity, they are a frigging BUSINESS!!!! Anyone with even the simplest of business sense will know that making money should be their FIRST priority before anything else. Capcom need to make as much money as possible, so as to be a SUCCESSFUL business, not one that is just breaking-even or God forbid, falling under! The more money Capcom attains, the more they are able to do! INCLUDING all the fan requests for producing re-makes, character additions, DLC packages, patches, brand new games/sequels ETC!! Yet most of the 'fans' whining about 'cashing in' are the one's whining about their favourite characters not being added to a given roster! Understand, more money for Capcom means more presents and gifts for their spoilt little bratty children.... us the fans!!
It's been beaten to death but that guy asked a dumb question. The primary objective of all businesses is to make money but that doesn't mean there aren't other secondary or tertiary objectives. Case in point: Activision. Bobby Kotick or however you spell his stupid name is a total ass munch.
@11
Your "life" depends on MegaMan being in this game?
God I feel so sorry for you...
the comments here are hilarious.
stay class, eventhubs.
watch someone ask this guy if the training mode dummies have the option to block and he's going to say well we can't answer that just wait until the games release. these guys love to hype the dumbest things.
I don't know what to believe. All I will say is that I know CAPCOM will not let us down.
Rumor is Rumor, leak is leak, and behind all these is no proof or solid evidences. Just listening to Capcom, ok.
I think people are caring so much about rumors and aesthetics of MVC3 that they are forgetting about playing the game. xD
Like god damn the game is almost out xD Just wait like a month and a half and the game will be out already. xD
A lot of you guys need to calm down and realize that the point of playing the game is for playing not fapping to which chars are in.
I'm still hoping for Nimrod. Don't care what anyone says. If Capcom and Marvel say no, then I'll move on. Some of these fans sure do have their heads stuck in their bum. It's really starting to get annoying. I bet Akuma could be like he was in CotA and people would wine and complain. Hard code to get him, had to use code, and a secret boss. No other info on him.
Me? I hoped Rouge would be in, but with M.O.D.O.K. in, I doubt it.
@ ABOVE
seriously i 100% it's just getting abit out of hand
@38
akuma was designed of ryu he has the same moves with a few extra how can you say he's not a clone ?
like i said i have nothing agaisnt shotos ( ryu was my idol when i was younger) but in a small roster 2 of them just isnt fair when thier are other charatcers who play dfferently ! Especially since he'll be brought in as the sf villian rep and there are so many more unique characters to choose from.
i'm not even going to address the stupidity of your agrument agaisnt diversity. You want it all easy for you eh ?
but the way things are going he's probably in anyway the rumor list hasnt been properly deconfirmed jump festa was the time to do it and they haven't so yh have fun mashing srk.
I dnt understand half these guys up here crying about certain characters not being in the game.(DO U WANT YOUR BOTTLE AN YOUR BLANKET?)lol,real talk,we been demanding for a 3rd game in this series,we got it.but yet some people still can't be satisfied.CAPCOM,pay tha cry babies no mind,yall keep doing what yall do.By the way,great job so far on the game!!!
#59
i lol'd so hard
i have no clue what you said but it is still lulzy
#61
I did. They had all the periods and question marks and what not, despite the lack of spaces.
@61 what didn't u understand bout my comment? If u can read then u should no what I'm talking bout. Now that's funny.
WOW.....after reading all of these comments of you guys complaining THIS is truly PATHETIC.
@27 & 28 Gootecks was being facetious, but he used the future tense of "going to do" meaning he was talking about MvC3. MvC2 had 56 characters, so I can see your confusion.
Sven is doing his job by even responding to you people to make you feel listened to. His job is not to give you all of the information, character lists, stage lists, details, and release dates. So he doesn't answer in a straight forward manner, he would get fired if he did. Capcom has a plan for releasing the info about these games, and that does not bend to your slightest whim. I certainly don't care that you want de-confirmation or the whole list, and I'm not invested in my future employment at Capcom... why do you think Sven would care when his job would be on the line?
Come March, no one will care about how long it took for the list become known because we will all have the game. So settle down and aquire some damn patience.
New stream event happening now, featuring players like PR-Balrog, Gandido,and others from the puertorican scene. We have salty cams! We'll be hosting SSF4, Tekken 6, BBCS and hopefully get some 3S in it.
www.justin.tv/arcadeboxtv
i thinks it would we awsome to not know all the characters before the launch its could be so hype to discover it all by yourself and it will make that people who arent hardcore fans play it all the way...
I think that marvel needs more gurls lol...something like medusa or crystal or enchanstress or loki who are popular...and are a little bit weird to atract japanese people lol
still I hope cammy its in...or a dlc at least TOT
If yall would look closely, there's a pattern with the character reveals...this time, chances are the next 2 characters will be "a returning Capcom character and "a new Marvel character"...
@Cornwad
I recall that you told me new characters like Hsien-Ko or Phoenix or solid evidences that support Klennox will show on Jump Festa. Where are they now?
^ Yeah dude i agree.
Grow a mind and take the use of knowledge with it please. Don't Follow such a leaker. Just follow Kensk (he is reliable).
Klennox or Lupinko, same rumor, different person. One thing that they both lack of is solid proof.
"Good night true believers. Don't believe everything you read on the interwebz."
LMAO! Such a true statement. That's exactly the reason why people should start using their brains & to stop believing everything that they hear without any concrete evidence. When will people on the internet learn? Are they this dumb?
The ONLY reliable person who has been giving us concrete info & evidence is Kensk.
@#80
Sven's only concrete statement is that he doesn't want us to listen to the twitter leaked list. He doesn't go on to confirm or deny any of the leaker's info, something Capcom's done repeatedly in the past especially with alleged leaked characters like the Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Silver surfer etc.
He can't even say how many stages there are, why not? Maybe because there are eight stages, lending evidence to the list along with the third trailer release and Human Torch being dropped.
Capcom explicitly stated there'd be something big to announce about MvC3 during JF, they rescinded this plan simply to try and discredit the leaked list.
For Capcom's sake, I can only hope that the rumor list IS fake, because there are truly some questionable choices on that list. Putting Akuma in when we already have Ryu instead of a popular and unique character like Bison, Guile, or Alex? A third Darkstalker character? No Mega Man at all even though Mega Man and Street Fighter are Capcom's biggest franchises?
I mean, the rumor list seems wrong just on a common sense basis, so hopefully it really is fake. Not even Capcom can make roster choices that are this bad.
@Cornwad @FOOOLS
And to be fair Cornwad, you did tell everyone to wait for Jump Festa, and nothing happened. That said, chances are pretty good Capcom put the kibosh on that because of the alleged twitter leak.
On the flip-side, FOOOLS, there have been about a dozen kensk clones popping-up, so its really difficult to understand which one is real. Also factor in that kensk knowing about SSF4 doesn't mean he knows about MvC3. I agree that he knows/knew something, but I think you should keep that possiblity in mind.
So wouldn't the logical explanation be that both of the people you're defending only got some of the information at different times? What's true for Lupinko or kensk at the time may not be true now.
I'm hoping they will somehow manage to add a few more characters in 3rd Strike Online Edition. Best surprise for me would be to have some of the new SF IV fighters such as Abel or Juri to make it into that game! Yet God please not C.Viper or the others
@85: I totally agree with you. Akuma would be a waste of space when they could put in M. Bison as another Capcom Villain, & that Akuma is nothing more than a shoto clone. And not putting in Megaman would also be another dumb move. That's like not putting in Mario in the Smash Bros. series.
@29 and @90
akuma being nothing more then a shoto clone? in a Vs. game?
akuma has much more moves and things they could add in then ryu, and morrison saying that shotos are for scrubs(especially in a vs. game).............you have been trolling this sight for like two weeks strait bro, and you have made it apparent you have no clue as to what the fck your talking about.
akuma is a clone, in a vs game it's even worse because there differences won't stand out as much as they do in SF4 also there are so many diverse playstyles to choose from there is no excuse
the thing is im coming across like i hate shotos but i don't i wouldnt mind akuma for dlc
but they've deconfirmed so many fan favourites because there are already characters in the game that play like then
cyclops, punisher, the thing, vergil
to bring in akuma after that is a low blow
he's just ryu with an air fireball a teleport and a few extra footsies.
@ 38
No Ryu and Akuma will be exactly the same character if they are both put in Marvel. Marvel's mechanics are different that SF. In SF, Akuma has 2 additional moves (air fireball and command dive) that makes his playstyle DIFFERENT. In Marvel those additions will not change his playstyle at all. He will be slightly better than Ryu, but not enough to waste a slot over.
only a month and a half to go....im tired of sf4. The game is getting stale.
@92
alright i can see your point, i still think that he wouldn't play much like ryu
but hey, im pretty sad about there being no vergil and other fan favorites, although im pretty happy with most of the roster so far
I set my character expectations pretty low so i'm just looking forward too playing the new guys like Skrull and Chris. I can see no Megaman but Capcom said no more shotos (although I can see them using a loophole here if they wanted) and no more Darkstalkers characters. They have flat-out said NO MORE DARKSTALKERS CHARACTERS. I love Darkstalkers and I would buy a new game on day one collectors edition! But if Capcom puts in another character I won't trust their ability to deliver solid news. If it comes too that they will have lied to everybody and lost their integrity.
@Cornwad
That's exactly what happened because Capcom isn't that hard to figure out.
@27 Your are mostly correct. There are 60 characters total not 55 after you add all the DLC characters in!!
@70 If there truly are "no more returning Capcom characters", why would Akuma return?
And what happened to those "announcements" we were supposed to get this past weekend??
The announcements were moved to a later date in order to punish fans for reading leaked lists and getting hyped about the game. Personally I couldn't be more psyched about the game although there appear to be a few real shocking omissions from the cast. Caps went back on their word because they knew releasing any more characters would show that one of the leaks is legit.
@116 do you really believe Capcom would give Megaman the boot?...MEGAMAN?? C'mon...hes a flagship character! Zero, nor Tron, could ever replace Megaman. That's like Marvel's roster having no Spiderman!! If Strider makes a return...he'll be a DLC. If ALL of those leaks were legit, what would be the point in dragging the reveals out for so long? Why not go ahead and let the rest of those cats out of the bag?
Im just ready to play this damn game already...just a month and a half left. Thank God. XD
Anything that takes the anticipation away from the game the people who are involved with the project will deny EVERYTHING. I mean they take their livelihood seriously enough to deny the number of stages and chabge dates of when announcements will be made.
Im done with the stupid twitter accounts, saying all this stupid stuff they might not even know. Im just gonna patiently wait for a game that as of now looks completely promising.
I will say this too. Capcom, i dont appreciate this constant waiting. Its not a smart strategy, its an annoying idea. Just say what all the information is so that people can stop specualting and bashing all the time.
