EventHubs.com member, Sumoslamman, has posted another entry in his series of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character analysis.Normals
It looks like the majority of his normals suffer from a case of sloth. His crouching hard attack comes out relatively quick though and leads into his launcher (Video 2 – :48) and you can cancel it into his Mighty Smash special to start some pretty dangerous combos, ending in his Level 3 hyper (Video 2 – :33). Dangerous recovery however.
Seth points out that his jumping hard attack (may be a command normal) has some unique properties. Thor leads with his hammer and rides it to the ground. Its active frames last until Thor hits the ground and if he manages to clock someone with Molinjor they go into a reel animation assuring some big damage (Video 1 – 2:11). However, it looks awkward in an aerial rave as it takes Thor straight to the ground while his enemies air recover (Video 2 – :50). That can be fixed if you follow up with a standard hard attack which knocks them to the ground and gives you a free Mighty Smash assuming they don’t tech roll (Video 2 – :28).
Thor seems to give out the vibe of being low-low mid tier
Spencer, Wesker, Taskmaster will be mine. First thing I'm gonna do is open it up, smoke a bowl, hit up training mode and then unlock the hidden characters. I hope they don't make it tedious like MvC 2 on dreamcast. I'm sure alot of the newer fans don't remember how tedious that was to unlock characters and the alt colors.
@SHOGUN
I second that statement of hoping they don't make it anywhere near THAT tedious as that was downright terrible.
@sumoslamman
I'm really enjoying these analyses; keep up the great work, man.
Great work with the Thor analyses.
One thing though is that they haven't shown Thor's level 3 super yet. The thing you are talking about (with him doing the Magneto ground pound super) is a level one.
I have no doubt in my mind that Thor is lacking in numerous areas required for a character to be good.
however, this is a team game, and who knows? somone might come up with a very specific team where he fits in great.
although Mike Z's team isnt as good as high tier teams, i never expected the juggernaut to be capable of being so strong, thor might be the same way.
@crispylinks77 Yeah? I thought that might be because Seth Killian said his level three wasn't implemented yet. I took that to mean that mighty storm was only set to deplete one bar of super, though it was supposed to take up three bars.
Regardless, thanks for the comments and compliments!
(I Want Dan, Hakan, and Frank West character analysis.
What do you mean they aren't officially announced yet?)
@sumoslamman
nah man im pretty sure you got that one wrong, even though i can understand your point of view, and i think i had a great time reading your thoughts regardless, and hope to see more.
I mean i could be wrong and you right, but they never showed a level three only using one bar like that, and i dont think they would put that in the trailer going unnoticed. It also doesnt make the noise that all the other level 3's make, and honestly it doesnt strike me as a special that is useful enough to be a level three.
again i could be wrong, i just dont think i am x) but nobody thinks they are
Poor Thor.. He's supposed to be a god dammit. And being a god means having godlike moves and also being a god-tier. Damn you Capcom, why did you have to limit Thor's powers down to mutant level. Now I'm really considering not picking him up as part of my dream team.
Oh and at summoslamman,
Bro, it's not Molinjor. Thor's trusty hammer's name is Mjolnir. Just to clear things up. Good preliminary analysis though. When the game comes up I'm definitely gonna try out Thor first.
@30
I feel ya, Thor really should be more...well...Godlike, it's more than a little disappointing that Thor has these problems. Then again, there's always a chance he's gone through some major tweaking between TGS and now, so I'm gonna be optimistic here and say he'll definitely have a spot on my team...unless he ends up being worst than in the TGS build *shudder*.
I think people may underestimate what Thor can do. Much like when X-23 and She-hulk was announced. We saw what they both can do. Let's just get thins thing in our hands so we can judge ourselves.
So many interesting choices for teams me thinks. A little more than 2 months away and we'll have this in our hands.
Ya i have seen thor and some of the combos in the Spotlight video were pretty deastating. If his 8way dash gets alot better(Cancelable, faster or both) and they let his grab super instant instead of jumpable then he could be a little bit better.
As for his projectile, he is a guy with a giant hammer, the projectile just adds to it really, its not like hes a keepaway, and one video showed that the lighting around the hammer could be used for combos, so maybe thats its intent all along. And its TGS so you never know. Him Hulk and Super Skrull for "Team least likely to work but probably so fun to play XD"
Thor looks to have some real sick combos that do good damage but unfortunately it looks like he might suffer in this game with his overall sluggishness, anyway, good read, I'm looking forward to reading more of your writeups sumoslamman
Thanks duders! And I totally got lazy with the spelling of Thor's hammer. I even wrote a piece for Marvel.com the other day where I spelled it correctly... Oh well. Thats what I get for trying to sound out a word from Norse mythology :P
@tiggyty
never state anything as a fact when your more then likely wrong -.-
I love how a lot of folks posting here are constantly hating on Thor, not even caring about his comic book history as a character or anything.
I'm picking him up no matter what. Grew up with Thor comics being my favorite, and there's no way that's changing.
I'm sure War Machine would play way too similar to Iron Man. Sure they can switch up his arsenal like they have been doing but ultimately he borders on being a clone of Ironman or at the very lease a modified color swap (like hes been in the other games)
@SHOGUN
I would hate to see War Machine in the game unless he plays to Iron Man as She-Hulk plays to Hulk. That just wouldn't be any fun. Reminds me of MVC2 sillyness with Iron Man, War Machine, Bone claw Wolverine and adamantium Wolverine. Waste of two spots in my opinion.
@SHOGUN
read Warmachine sometime, you'll see how they greatly differ in so many way, just because older games did it (even then there were parts of MVC2 that made him his own character). It's just everyone gets lazy with the Warmachine forgetting he's equipped with some of the heaviest hitting ballistics weapons and also has a background in Military training. Unlike Ironman, who while a weapons contractor he has no idea what true war is like and has no formal weapons training and uses Replusor tech. t
@Sumoslammman Then you clearly never played Warmachine all that much:
Warmachine in MVC2 had a high and low fireball, a secondary antiair super, the ability to chip Iceman to death, his projectiles being actual projectiles and not just beams.
All I have to say to both of you is ever seen Ironman do this?:
http://www.comicsbulletin.com/news/im...
@Ex_Ein I don't believe I have but then again, Tony is still human while Rhodey... well he's basically all cyborg. I write for Marvel.com so I know all about Rhodey's Vietnam war experience but saying Tony's never been to war... I mean he was a P.O.W. in Vietnam and he was a military contractor. I would say he has a pretty decent inkling of what war is like.
Also on your bit about War Machine in MVC2, so the differences are: 1) He has a low fireball, 2) He has an anti-air super, and 3) he can chip Iceman to death? I fail to see how those three things, the third being basically negligible, really add anything to the Iron Man equation.
HOWEVER! Thanks for the comment dude!
@EX_EIN
Like I said, For MvC 2, besides some modifications to his specials (like the high and low missles, changed his smart bombs to resemble water mines and gave him his MvC 1 vertical hyper combo) he still had the same normals as Ironman, and his speed was reduced so you couldn't quite pull off Ironman's infinites as easily.
You're bringing up stuff from the comics, that's all well and good, but it doesn't really apply here to the game. By that logic, like I said Thor, Hulk and even Dormammu should be God Tier and virtually broken.
The only way I see them bringing in War Machine and differentiating him from Ironman is if they made him like his MvC 1 Gold WarMachine counter-part with thicker armor (almost HulkBuster-esque) and actual armor in terms of gameplay so he can take damage like no other and a wide variety of gatling guns, rocket/grenade launchers, etc and slightly alter his normals. Also give him major priority on projectiles. I'd say make him very similar to MvC 2 Sentinel. That's how I would bring him in, but if they did what they did in MvC2 and kept him fairly similar to Ironman in gameplay, then it would be a waste of a slot in my opinion.
Speaking of which I wonder if they'll include hidden characters like that again. (Hyper Venom, Gold War Machine, Shadow Lady, Lillith, Orange Hulk)
Good read !
man still gutted bison and megaman never madde the final cut
*sigh*
