@ Catalyst
Why do you defend marn. I wouldn't say something about his appearance, weight or anything like that. But to be honest, he isn't even worth the attention.
Even in this interview he called your site eventscrubs.com.
remember that Marn didn't know about Zero yet at least I think correct me if I'm wrong, but now zero is in it his thinking to him self that HIS GOT THIS!!!!
I respect every top player because theyre in the position that I dream of being in. Marn has an amazing dudley and really does things that no one else can with that character. He mastered the character basically and it's stupid how people hate on him. Especially when he beat Daigo, like, he beat Daigo people, let's see you do it. Marn is one of maybe 10 Americans that have beaten Daigo in a tournament setting, how can you not applaud him for that? Btw, there's an interview with Steve H as well, and it's pretty hilarious.
@Samurai
I've never cared what people call the site. It's a nickname and people can refer to it as whatever they want. I don't take it as an insult. Most of the people who call it EventScrubs I know on a personal level and they've had a lot of flattering things to say about the site. To me, it's a joke and/or kidding around.
As far as Marn calling out some of the commenters, he has a point. Some of the comments on this site that have been directed at him have been terrible and I've had to ban and delete numerous people for the comments they'd made towards him.
This is by far the vast MINORITY of the comments made here. Most of the people who leave comments know how to keep them inline with the rules of the site, and not delve into personal territory.
I wish Marn would have made that designation, that it's only some of the commenters, but, he didn't.
Anyway, that's my stance on the matter.
@SAMURAI
Marn was referring to the comments that get left on the site, not the site itself. (Just to add some clarification)
Oh and if you watch part 2, he praises this site saying it has really good news, he just doesnt like the people hating on him in the comments. He was referring to them as "eventscrubs"
I think these days people pay too much attention to the personal character of players rather than their skills in the games they play (i.e. F.Champ). Not saying it's a bad thing to value respectable behavior and good manners, but damn, grow a pair, people and learn to take some crap. Not every top player is a gentle man (space intended) like Daigo. I think skill should be respected regardless of the player's personality (up to a certain point, of course).

I do like Marn, but Dudley isn't a bad character, c'mon! And many people may be hating on him because he says things that not everyone would like to hear... But even Daigo has haters and he doesn't even talk XD
Marn has a point and doesn't. Some of the people who post here know their sh!t real well, that includes some of the top players who comment on Eventhubs, but other people who do research and find new tricks and gems that people don't know about yet comment here too. There are others who don't know their stuff who post too.
That's how it is every where on the net. You got people who know their sh!t who come in and dish some knowledge and you got people who came in and talk out of their asses. It's the internet. Thing is Eventhubs is the biggest site for SF around so it's going to draw all sorts of people. Some who know their stuff and some who don't.
Even though Zero is supposedly worse in MvC3, I don't think that means too much considering that he was very good (if not the best) in TvC.
Well, I hope it doesn't mean much.
Also, I don't think Dudley is terrible, but at most a solid mid-tier/midlow-tier character.
One of the most entertaining players to watch. He mains someone who all the other pros are scared to touch, and he does cocky and hilarious things during the match.
Seems like a jerk, but I don't have to hang out with him.
Idolizing Japanese? Respect would be more appropriate. Americans also respect American top players, Mike Ross is one good example.
It's just that when American top players start getting cocky, people start bashing, which makes sense. I personally don't bash them for being arrogant, but some people are just like that.
I don't hate marn..atleast he talks actual things and f champ make him look even more good..!
Being a controversial person myself in another game, I have sympathy for these guys. Lot of sh*t gets taken out of context or trolled up. Friendly sh*t talk gets translated as disrespect, a 2 close losses that out you turn into you being a total scrub, having confidence in your ability comes off as being egotistical...and most the people bitching have never been to a high end tournament. It's even worse if they acknowledge a mistake and try to atone, people ride that sh*t as far as they can.
I respect Marn and even J.Wong (even if I am a Daigo fan).
There's like so much Marn haters on both EH and YouTube.
But to be honest, Marn does have a point about the commenters and stream monsters, but he wasn't being specific.
Thank you for uploading our interview. Fighter's Fury really appreciate it.
I just got done talking to "Bossman." Jason Cole is up next. Enjoy gamers.
im glad marn is the evo champ for tvc because he's a big name in the fighting community and people who like him might follow up on that game. i know capcom has said that tvc was built around the wii hardware but come on, i know nintendo must have done something to keep it a wii exclusive aside from the arcade version. im not saying the wii is a kiddy console because its not. people don't want to pay for $200 for the console, around$ 60 for a fight stick and $30 for tvc. its way to expensive just for one title. if you have the money go do it because its really a great game and worth it. its just ridiculous making a fighting game exclusive to one console. if this was back in the snes genesis days it wouldn't have happened like that.
@SilentBob #17
"His Dudley is insanely fun to watch."
This. Opinions, good or bad, about anything but his gameplay with Dudley are a VERY distant second to the monster he turns Dudley into. I don't care about anything else.
Bottom line, when Marn is up, I'm watching that match.
I damn sure want to see the Jason Cole one. Homey from the Great Northwest.
I just don't get why people always hate on someone or something just b/c they can. Catalyst is providing an awesome site that FREE. And Marn entertains you with Dudley on all these tournament streams for FREE.
I get tired of people complaining just to complain.
Anyway, Marn's Dudley is the best. I could watch it all day.
I saw Marn at soCal, went up to him and said "he was free? gonna talk more shlt?" he just put his head down and kepted walking as if he didn't hear me......its sad when a person gets out of line...don't get me wrong I love to win but to talk shlt and act all high and mighty about it saying "he was free"....nah don't matter what you do because you messed up. Marn can go eat a dick.
Or catalyst don't wanna see trolling or insults here..!
I don't mind being told not to disrespect someone, but when it's someone who looks like he couldn't care less about anyone and anything, and who says that the Mid West is like a 'big gaping hole in the middle of USA', I'm like what the hell, where did HE command such a degree of respect?
It's always nice to be told to treat someone one doesn't respect well under the threat of being banned, but deep down there are things I long to say, about a guy with the kind of attitude I see here, but, maybe it is the interviewer who is a bit offensive and puts Martin on the defensive..
Marn has a way of saying incredibly dumb stuff, and I'll be damned if I'll respect that on any day. However, under the threat of a ban, which seems misplaced and unjustified, I'll keep my tongue.
I will say he strikes me as arrogant. I don't give respect to people like that. EVER.
aah
@Allabouthonor
You read my statement wrong. You're more than welcome to disagree with Marn, speak your mind about him, etc. BUT you have to keep the personal insults out of it.
If you want to dish a bunch of personal insults about his appearance, race, whatever — yeah, not welcome here. The rest is fair game. Marn speaks his mind about the community and the community is going to speak their mind about him, but it shouldn't ever go into personal territory.
Just to clarify a bit, personal territory has nothing to do with the games and/or community. If you want to accuse someone of having various diseases, say they don't pay their rent or talk about any of that kind of stuff, you're not welcome here.
If you want to talk about how so and so sucks with Sagat, uploads crappy tutorial videos, writes terrible articles about the game, etc., you're more than welcome to say so. The big difference here is whether it's something relating to the games/community.
The rest of the stuff from personal appearance and habits has no place here.
@allabouthonor
he said midwest isnt as good as east/west coast which is true. his comments he made on why it's not as strong as east/west was valid. how can you become a better player if others around you arent as good? did you see flo at norcal regional? i mean he's good, but he was getting blown up by local cali players.
"I realize Marn has some unflattering things to say to a number of people, but he keeps it to their skills in game and isn't calling people out for personal stuff."
Do you know Marn? Because he's frequently been a dick to people for reasons that have nothing to do with 'their skills in game.' Hell, he's dickish to people who have nothing whatsoever to do with the scene.
In my opinion, dude deserves anything he gets flung his way. Good player, though.
@TheWrist #33
I actually picked up Dudley for a few weeks after seeing his insane performance against Daigo. Definitely not a character for me though. The way he plays Dudley is unlike anything I've ever seen. He mastered him that's for sure and there are probably other tricks he didn't figure out yet that could quite possibly further improve his game.
@DustinFong
I haven't seen him do that stuff before, not saying he hasn't, just that I haven't seen it, so I can't say one way or another. I try to judge him on the actions I've seen and my own personal interactions with him.
People say a lot of things, and if you can't verify it's true or false, well, there's not a lot you can do. But Marn also goes in under the same rules as everyone else on this site.
I don't mind him saying that, his reasoning is fine, but still he has to show respect there, and refrain from saying it's a 'Big gaping HOLE in the middle of the USA'. I mean if he doesn't GIVE respect how can he expect to get it in return?
Anyway, I hadn't seen the ending, he seems like a nice guy, but frankly, I get the idea this is more about Eventhubs finding out Marn comes here and want to keep that going, so he comes down on all critique, justified or not, anyway I just think what happened to free speech, I mean if this guy expects to be treated with respect, he should give it.
His statement about the Mid West made me very angry, at him. So suddenly I can't say that out loud?
And, I wondered about the shirt too, he always wears it, it gives a bad impression, but I mean if he knows it why doesn't he change it I mean simple stuff for most people :shakeshead:.
Anyway he's free to be who he wants to be, but that can sometimes lead to people not respecting you. That goes with the territory. Many girls wouldn't date a guy dressed like that, we all know this from growing up. So what gives Marn?
I just feel I have had shoved down my throat I'm supposed to respect something that isn't necessarily good, by an overzealous mod, and I feel my right to freedom of speech has been restricted.
I would never say anything personal about him, just that he comes of as arrogant and I can understand why he gets a lot of bad responses. Give respect to get respect.
He also never properly took back what he said about Daigo being free. So he can disrespect Daigo, but we can't disrespect him?
I feel lousy inside for being told so, like I can't express what I honestly and justifiably feel, though not harsh at least stern.
:shakeshead:
Would be nice to meet some moderators with a firm sense on the perspective of things, those are rare.
I'd rather be honest and banned than a coward who supports what is bad and wrong. If Marn has honor, he feels the same way. Which I'm all but sure he has, plenty, at that.
aah
And the way he describes how Daigo hasn't won any tournaments in the US recently doesn't matter. Daigo is great but he isn't THE best, and its not like he's untouchable either, he can't win them all and its definitely not impossible to beat him.
The point is that Marns attitude not just to Daigo but overall is very poor sportsmanship and while its true that people always talk unnecessary stuff about him (him being fat etc.) That doesn't mean it makes it alright for him to be a prick to the players and community who don't..
The reason Daigo is popular is the fact that he's a good player AND because he is humble, it is this kind of guy who deserves respect. For him to go all the way to USA, players like Marn should be more welcoming instead of seeing him as some sort of threat.
It was pretty funny how he admitted he gets trolled easily. I've never publicly trashed him or anything, but he seems like a much better sport now than he was before. I've always been somewhat critical of the way the American players have presented themselves, but when you think about it, they're 6-7 years younger than the Japanese players. Sometimes, but not always, maturity and grace comes with age.
It's just, this guy can say whatever he wants and we can't? What's the point of watching the interview then? I'm out of this, waste of my time frankly. Get Marn to come here but lose everyone else.
:washeshands,leavesclean:

@ 46
Dudley is NOT for Noobs who wanna win. Pick Ryu...um yeah only Ryu for EZ wins.
Ryu's Combos/Damage is EZ to get and EZ to do in most cases and they usually leave him safe.
Dudley takes A TON of Lab Work to get correct. You want to do big damage with Dudley you have to WORK for it.
His combos usually end with the opponent flying and you have to time WELL the attacking move.
Then the mix ups...it's a nightmare controlling that guy.
Balrog is another brainless one. (I use him ONLY when pissed)
He gets alot of damage with his fast attacks and huge range that leaves him pretty safe.
What I didnt understand when Marn uses Dudley Vs. PR Rog.
Why didnt he smell Straight Punches and simply Cross Counter them?
Short Swing Blow should be used after empty jump ins too!
I will say this first. Marn is a great TvC and SSF4 player. That;s about where the positive things end.
The dude ruined an entire video game scene through match fixing and poor management. On top of that, he got into significant debt and refused to pay MM bets he lost. I highly doubt those bets have been repaid to date.
How can anyone honestly defend the dude? Smack talk is fine, but the way he manages both himself and his relationships warrents such petty calls about weight towards him. If he wants it to stop, he should honestly stop being such a douche to everyone.
@Allabouthonor
Marn isn't allowed to voice whatever he wants on the site, as I mentioned before, he falls within the same rules as everyone else. Your posts aren't being modded because they're falling within the rules.
You said you're not going to post personal insults, and that's fine, then — SPEAK YOUR MIND.
That's why the comment boards are here.
I could care less about his insults to anyone whether he means them or not... I only care about skill and like him or not... He has it. I use to think that it was horrible for insults to others and I still do... But, it will never cease. He wont stop... And neither will the many that badmouth him. I am not one to do such a thing and if I do become a pro... I will more than likely not follow down his path of insults but I will respect him as a person nonetheless. Many may insult me and that is even as of now... But I will not go down that childish road and let it get to me. I will try my best not to.. as many of you call it.. "feeding the troll."
Marn... If you so call read these comments like you so call say you do... Then remember one thing... Though many do pick on you... They do not speak for the rest of us that do not. If you by any chance read this... Then by all means... Let me know.. I wish to face you. I do not even care if I win or lose it. I do not care if you insult me afterwards.. But I do not know you are good at what you do. And I wish to improve by any means. I wish to face you, Justin, Ricky, Valle, Umeharara (again).. As many of you as possible.
XBL: Reimon Durbow
I will be waiting for you. And rest assure I will train up to actually compete in actual tournaments as well so one way or another.. I am coming for all of you. Have a good day Marn and Catalyst and the daily members of Eventhubs.com
If people want to say something about someone, they should be allowed to say it. I swear, America is so crazy about censorship it's nauseating. Basically saying, if you have anything bad to say about him, you can't. Only good things can be said about him. What kind of communistic crap is that? Also, this site needs to stop taking my twitter posts and answers to my questions on other sites and posting them without any credit or permission.
he's just a douchebag.
best dudley? he's clearly just fueling his ego.
a slight to canada? canada has 2 of the best players in north america.
slight to the midwest. Slight to daigo. yeah he's doesn't deserve all this hate...
@60 What are you talking about?
BTW he is the best Dudley around wether you like it or not.
Damn Marn...things are bad when catalyst has to put a disclaimer telling us to leave you alone
The interviewer said U.S. has improved b/c U.S. can beat Japanese players. Hey, correct your statement. U.S. beat ONE Japanese player and that's Daigo. U.S. improved their game ONLY against Daigo. Stop assuming Daigo represents the entire country's SF community.
On another note, I like the fact Marn is using Dudley despite he have not won with him yet. I think he's the only one who uses him. I like to see other characters being used and win with them. He'll do well in pools, struggles a little but advances in top 32 then get knocked down to losers and eventually out of tourney in top 16.
I cant believe some people are actually using the fact he wears an EG shirt all the time....
Last time i checked he was sponsored by EG, and as such im pretty sure when at tourny's he has to wear one... kinda like in most sports... you know you wear your sponsors name at events and they give you money....
In the second video at 0:48, I noticed... but is it a clue?
@60. Name one other Dudley player in SSF4 aside from Marn, who regularly goes to tournaments and consistently makes at least top 32 if not higher.Anywhere in the world.
@63. Like I said before in my previous post, its just a pleasure to watch him play his character just like it is with many players. I suppose you can say, I just enjoy watching high level play. And placing fairly high top 32 out of 350+ man pools depending on the tournament is nothing to sneeze at. Hell if I went to a major I would be psyched just to win one match but that's just me. I was happy for Marn when he placed in Top 8. From what I'm told from a friend in SoCal is Marn really is one hell of a nice guy and he will be your best friend...if you buy him alcohol.
Alcohol...the key to any friendship.
Not sure why people think they can talk crap on someone when they don't know him personally. Same thing goes for people quoting second hand about events that may or may not have happened.
Also, being upfront about the truth does not equate to bad mouthing, in my opinion. The Midwest is the weakest territory in the U.S., sadly. So on and so forth.
On another note, keep representing that Dudley, Marn. Definitely one of my favorite players.
@ 59
I understand that you don't like censorship, but you have to understand that this site gets A LOT of crap because of the comments left on here. People tend to ignore the forums and chat we have and focus on the negativity aimed at someone or something. Catalyst just wants to clean up some of the language here, and that makes sense.
Not really interested in the interview but Marn mentioning Viper like he knew for sure she’ll be in MvC3 makes me hope this info is legit. I’d really love to see my SSFIV main in MvC3 too with even more ridiculous special moves.
Eh, Marn's Marn. I've met him once and even for that little time he seemed like a cool dude. He's just young and a little brash, but weren't we all in our early twenties. There are far worse people out there in the scene, personality wise.
Wesker/Viper/Zero ehh? The man's got major skill and I'm sure that team will be a force to be reckoned with. I like his rushdown style as well. Him and Yipes are two of my favorites to watch.
Y'know, with many of the top players for SF (hell, for ANYTHING competitive really), I can respect their abilities in their field, but they always have the worst attitudes. Granted, I've never met Marn or JWong, etc, but why is it that the people representing our country ALWAYS have a poor attitude. That's a huge reason I couldn't respect Filipino Champ anymore, NOT as a player, but as a person.
I personally think he is a good player. However, I understand and saw firsthand how some of the commenters/trolls have been said about him in the commments section. It was out of hand to say the least. It's sad what the trolls say, but it is sadder that comments are now being deleted/censored. If you start with Marn, then you have to also delete neg comments about Choi, Gootecks, Justin etc etc We can go on.
+ or -, I wish people had more intelligent things to say on the boards/comments rather than comment on appearance etc. Censorship is not the way to go. I do , though, hope the trolls would go away..................
I wouldnt take Marn saying that C.Viper is in MvC too seriously, he is basing it off of the evidence given in those shilouettes a while back. Tho I agree with him, that she will likely be in the game, I dont think people should assume he has some kind of inside information about it or anything.
@79 there maybe should be a system where people can vote up a comment/commenter. I can see problems with thatalso , but maybe, just maybe, it would encourage smarter/more productive comments.
I met Marn at NCR. He seemed like a cool guy except when he said my stick was "garbage." We played Marvel 3 a few times and he did some crazy Dante shtuff. 100% or so on my point, though it was with X-factor. I think part of why he gets a bad rap, aside from what we as spectators see of him in videos is his rep in the community. A lot of other players talk some crazy shtuff about him, so people hear that and make opinions based on that.
(What? Since when do pros announce chars for games?)
Marn does not work for Capcom. Anything he said about MvC3 will always be rumors to me. There's no invitation-only MvC3 showcase where Capcom invites the best fighting gamers in the United States.
The thing he said about Alex not added to the AE edition might be legit just because it's been released in Japan.
"its like...why do they take the time out of their lives to sht on me...like its not worth it" lmao some of the realist sht that ever came out of man's mouth and when i say man i dont mean marn....more people need to take that advice...worry about urself lol
@86 "There's no invitation-only MvC3 showcase where Capcom invites the best fighting gamers in the United States."
ummmm....sry to burst ur bubble...but it is
I hate censorship and I believe anyone should b able to say whatever they want. However, this is Catalyst's site; he has provided this discussion board and if he decided to ban anyone using the letter 'e' in their posts, he'd be well within his right to do so.
PS, I (almost) always liked Marn as a player and a person; he's seriously talented and pretty damn funny, too. The community should be grateful to have him. Plus, he's right. I usually ignore the comments here because a fairly high percentage of them seem to be complete stupidity.
Guys, the reason Catalyst is "defending" Marn is because the reason this site gets called "eventscrubs" is because of the trolls who post here and insult someone personally. Not sure why you guys are getting so worked up.
Top players get demo copies of games early and Marn probably talked to one or is one of the players that got an early demo copy of MvC3 from Capcom. He would know better than most if Viper is in it. Capcom gives top players early copies so they can beta test the game and find problems with it. Don't believe me? Check youtube, you'll see a video posted a month back of a guy playing the game in his living room with friends.
No serious player plays on PSN because they all think it's horrible. I don't and I rarely get lag but maybe i'm lucky.
As for Marn calling eventhubs eventscrubs, he was really calling all of the haters on the site and they people who talk sh1te but couldn't place in a real tourney to save their lives. Really I agree 100% with him. When he wins it's bad form but when Daigo wins the net shuts down. So yeah phuck all the bitches here. If you can't place don't say sh1te. But then again that's what the net is for talking sh1te behind a veil of anonymity
Sure, Marn's a little bit cocky, but that's what makes him so entertaining.
And being offended by someone calling this site "EventScrubs"?
Really? Who cares? Catalyst knows it's not worth the effort to take things like this personally, and I think we should take a lesson. It's a game, guys. It's not personal until you MAKE it personal.
Anyway, I don't think that Viper SHOULD be in (because seriously, no one can replace Captain Commando), but if she's in, you do have to wonder how they'll Marvelize her moves.
And yeah, I understand that CapCom would be near impossible in his original form thanks to his entire team being part of his moves, but they could adjust him to where the team is there for maybe ONE move, OR make him operate like Batsu and have him call out his ACTUAL teammates to do Captain Sword and the like.
...how can he just say Viper is in? Sure, he might have "connections-"
Y'know what, no, screw that, he's just a normal player like us. He's probably refreshing the page every hour or so to be the first one to know the latest scoop like hundreds of other people in the world.
He's just hoping his "wish-list" comes true, so his statement that Viper is in and "everyone knows" she'll be in it is completely invalid.
(Everyone? Really? If it was THAT obvious, then "everyone" would be ranting on comments about the inevitable reveal for Viper, and I have seen few people request actually her.)
I personally feel that Marn is a really nice guy and negative comments is a form of bullying depending on if it bothers the person or not. It does bother people if they like to admit it or not but the one person that honestly deserves it is FChump. I think Marn does it for fun and really doesn't know he's doing something wrong in the heat of the moment but, FChump is just a loser in real life. He called Tokido a Fag after talking to him and Daigo an overrated g o o k when he's Japanese.
Catalyst is just wants to keep things civil and make Event Hubs the best news blog it can be. It isn't going to turn into Catalyst vs. Marn, it never turns into Catalyst vs. anyone. Speaking your mind comes out of your brain, personal insults come out of your ass and make you look like you can't properly address anything of importance. Commentators constantly complain about Capcom's decisions with impunity, but childish name-calling gets deleted. Seeing a pattern? Some people were upset because Event Hubs actually got too popular and got more hits than the source material, but Event Hubs posts snippets and a link to the source to the best of their ability just to keep everyone happy. I don't care if you think I'm sucking up, I'M just speaking MY mind. The comments are getting as bad as they were before registration was implemented because some people are incapable of doing anything other than childishly attack each other.
@Nukka You're probably going to get banned, but why not respond anyways. You're the "eventscrubs". Hes not talking about the site, hes talking about the scrubs on here that think they know sh1t from watching a few videos online, then go online and critique top players. Do you think they seriously take into consideration your basic knowledge of the game? Not only that, you attack him personally? Way to be a hypocrite, hate on Marn because he "hates" on other players. If you didn't know, most top plays are good friends with each other.Do people give you sh1t for bashing on your friends?
dudley a bad character? cmon dude anyone can win with any character. hakans wildcat for example or jwong's makoto
The C. Viper bit sounds more like speculation to me rather than a 'I know for sure because I have connections'. That's all I'm really gonna say about this interview; until I meet a person I can't honestly judge them and so I won't.
@w34ks4uce277
Well put, I'm sure others have echoed that sentiment but I don't feel like sifting through a hundred comments to find them. When "Event Scrubs" is used to derogatorily refer to people, it's not Event Hubs itself. Event Hubs is a great impartial resource and the only people officially "part" of Event Hubs are the administrators who do nothing but post news and delete comments from the REAL Event Scrubs, the mouthy stream monster-cousins who use the almost-anonymous comments as a medium to spew nonsense.
Respect!!
The truth of the littleTrollbastard is that its easy to talk nonsense, and spew poisonous stupidity from a keyboard of course.
Marn you just keep rockin your skills and do what you do!!Most people know that it takes real effort, talent, and determination to do ANYTHING at a competitive level.
Some posters say crappy non Street Fighter stuff because thats what they do when not using a lag switch, or masturbating to the Quaker Oats Quaker. "Shoulder shrugs"
Do your best to ignore them while they take breaks from making Oatmeal.
To Catalyst: HELLS YEAH!!! Big middle finger to the haters that don't have anything constructive or game related to say!!!
See you on XBL!!
Hes right though.
All of these comments on here should be taking with a grain of salt.
Or no grains of anything at all honestly.
@103
When did he say he couldn't win because he plays a bad character? Oh yeah, he didn't. Don't make up stuff just because you have poor comprehension skills. Not trying to troll, I just get annoyed by ignorance.
Marn Pretty much took the words right out my mouth. Personally I'm good at street fighter but i know i'm a scrub compare to him and other players. Yeah I said it I"M A SCRUB. But i don't rant on topics that I don't know until I know I have the right facts. Some of you you eventhubs people that rant on topics that you know your not sure about, Always end up in a troll fest -_-. You guys are freaking retarded.
to Marn: An honor to have you here. You looked great in the video. Power to ya.
by early january we will know the entire mvc3 roster. there is no way capcom wont announce the characters by then. the game comes out in about 9 weeks, many people will go to there local mom and pop stores and pick it up maybe even 2 weeks in advance, big gaming websites will get there review copies, put all the characters that will be in the game in previews leading to the review (like they did with smash bros japanese version) of course some people not from capcom have to know the entire roster. people can't keep there mouth shut and when they mention someone like let's say c viper, everyone thinks its a rumor and it might not be. i honestly think capcom even made a couple of rumor lists just to mess around with people. even yatterman 2 wasnt a surprise at all in tvc because people find stuff out faster than what they can reveal when planned.
1: Marn more than likely (along with Wong and I'm sure others) have been given beta copies of the game in order to play it and test things out here and there to give their feedback on the game. Capcom might care about what the casual fan has to say but they seem like they're realizing that the tournament crowd is going to make or break the game. If it gets blasted by everyone, it won't have a spot at EVO, it won't have a spot at NCR or SCR or anywhere and it'll just get passed by other games in a genre that's starting to feel very crowded.
2: American "fans", --DO-- idolize the Japanese players. If you aren't Momochi, Mochi, Deigo, Tokido.. you get blasted and called a scrub. Yeah, we all like Mike because he's a down to Earth guy (or so he comes across on streams / videos) but people like Valle too, right? Valle talks mad shyte but that's okay, because he's "OG", right? Let Marn talk all the shyte he wants, either he'll back it up and place in the top 4, or he'll get bounced and made to eat his words..and about the whole "well, we don't like Marn cause he talks shyte..".. top level.. --COMPETITIVE-- players in any profession talk shyte. Kobe, Jordan, A-Rod, Lemieux, all at one point have talked shyte to get into the head of someone.
3: You all realize Marn's sponsored, right? That he --WORKS-- for EG and for all intents and purposes, that shirt he wears at tournaments is his work shirt. Yeah..I don't know about you guys, but I haven't seen any other EG shirt come in any other color aside from the one that Marn and the rest of the crew is seen in..so yeah, it'll look like he's always wearing the same shirt at every event..its called a phcukin uniform...and sides, if you're a big guy like Marn, or just a guy in general, once you've got a shirt you've broken in and is comfortable.. you'll wear the hell out of it no matter what else you've got.
4: The Midwest. You know why it isn't like the EC or WC? The phcuking area spans from Texas up to the border of Canada..and much like it is for music and movies, the costs will always get more love due to them being the homes of NY and LA. Also, along the coasts you've got more travel options available to you be it train, bus or even car. In the time it takes to get from just Houston to Dallas (bout 8hrs...give or take) could travel through how many states on the EC? Seriously..in smaller areas, the options for higher level of play will always come about.
So with all of that being said, don't people on here have better things to do? Like complain about two more shoto's being thrown into Super AE or proclaim that "insert up and coming Japanese player" is godlike?
Did anyone, like, count how many times he said "like"?
I think Marn chose Dudley as an ironic antithesis.
When u guys beat Daigo then u can say "Marn isnt that good, his Dudley is...yadda yadda"
Marn might not be so studly, but his Dudley is fo sho.
PC FTW.
I'm glad one of the pros finally said something, but it's a shame that Marn only referenced Eventhubs. I've seen the same awful comments on SRK and other fighting scene sites about Marn and Justin and whoever else the internet dwellers choose to hate. It's been terrible for a while, but the popularity of SF4 made it that much worse. Especially in the tournament streams.
One thing Marn should be happy about is that he never has to read the messed up stuff they say about these guys in the stream chats. Bunch of haters if you ask me.
I am glad that Marn does exactly what I do every morning. Checks the SF news on Eventhubs first thing. That just shows the good this site is doing for the community. Shame some people can ruin a good site with their childish comments.
@114 That explains why Wong called Adon sh1t in the preview build months ago, he got his hands on a beta from the game and complained about how most of his moves weren't safe on block and got him revised (though he shouldn't have gone public with that information considering the constant changes or the fact that nobody knew that Capcom sent him a copy). Thanks to him, he successfully saved Adon from joining the bottom tier ranks of the joke characters.
okay, Marn, beat Daigo in a tourny, that makes him god-tier, anyone who has ever eliminated Daigo in tourny is god-tier..
Really, all this Marn hate is coming from people of a lesser skill level.. I'm not saying, i'm pro, i'm not even saying i'm that great, but i'm not so low to player hate, Marn like i hold a vendetta on him..
Clearly, everyone can see, how hurt Marn is from the trolling.. Leave the Dude be..
You guys do know that justin wong received a copy of ssfiv weeks before it hit stores? I wouldn't be surprised if justin and marn are playing mvc3 at their home right now. Certain players have deep networks in the fighting game community. So marn saying viper is in the game to me its as good as gold.
marn I like you but why do you hate the east coast? As a lowly stream monster, I find west coast to seem really boring. They just call out the moves in their little suit and tie where as spooky does good work.
well said for the most part.
I was guilty of watching videos and thinking I knew sh*t but I learned quickly I was wrong when I started attending tournaments.
Don't know how to respond to someone, but I DO read what is being said I just feel setting up a one way street under threat of ban is well a bit harsh.
And anyway, I never seen anybody call Marn out on his appearances, I seen people call Justin Wong big, but not Marn, I figured he stayed in the background and under the radar anyway guy seems nice but something about his attitude sets me on edge, can't pin point it, it doesn't make me feel like being nice
That said, I'd never call him ('fat'), but would say he could use taking care of himself a bit more, it would go a long way imo, like take up a bit of running, or biking, or swimming, it's that he sort of looks like he doesn't take care of himself at all, and has this well I don't give a damn hoot how you feel about looking at me attitude
I think he should try to get that EA Active 2, for Christmas, not as a bad comment, but because it's a really good idea, and it might even up his gameplay to get in better shape, clear the system of a few toxins etc just through some ol-fashioned sweating and work I would like to see that for him
Marn looks like he just rolled out of bed, no matter where he goes, which is a shame because he seems like a nice guy, wish he'd change that just a bit, I hate to say it but he looks kinda homeless or something :/
Someone that bright should be able to change it, I mean a hair cut and a few different T-shirts at tournaments could change his whole image...
Dude needs to wake up imo WAKE UP MARN, he should get a SFIV fanboy t-shirt :p one with a shoryuken on :D to say 'I beat Daigo, once, tournament style' that would be COOL
Marn needs to be a bit more cool is all or command some more respect, just a bit. B-p We need bad-boy Marn to 'pear on the scene yezz
to Marn: you are the best dudley. goodly execution.
to Catalyst: keep doing it. eventhubs is the best street fighter news site¡¡¡¡
this isnt really front material but ok, i can live with it, anyway i just want to point out, that little coment about TvC been a bad game, and the only reason marn gave was cause its on the wii, but true is that is one of the best fighting games of this generation, amazing balance, great characters, lots of playstyle, variaty, people cannot judge it cause its on the wii, thats retarded, tvc is awesome, ssf4 on the other hand is just avarage but because of the name its very popular, anyway just wanted to say that, and marn never have a real good zero, just average zero if you ask me, the irony is that his alex was better than his zero which is a bit of shame but what can we do about it
Marn I think you're a great player and fun to watch, and who cares what other people say, most people don't even mean it as they are trolls. I am also from the midwest and didn't take offense to what he said, I'm sure he knows the tournament scene very well and his statements ONLY went to the ability of the players here. Keep playing dudley, and I'll keep cheering you on.
Tbh marns been a favorite fighter to watch on the stream for me for a long time. As for his attitude i dont know the guy allot of the things that have happened and he might have done on screen probably didnt even give half the story remember streams are just a window you dont get the whole picture unless you are there.
As for the teenager thats still prattling on about marns appearance, what are you his mother? Get a grip. Post a picture of yourself if your so godlike... i didnt think so.
gutter trash
Dang hes almost like me in fighting games at times.
Like what he said in video 2.
I too have to stay on the offensive and its hard for me to stay on the defense.
But i guess its best to overcome that weakness somehow....
Marn's comments are spot on. I appreciate how he tells things as they are without having to appease the Internet community, especially the ones who complain about everything they know nothing about and never contribute to the fighting game scene in any way. If I were Marn, I wouldn't let the "trolls" get to me, considering what 95% of them are like. I use the term loosely because it's one thing to troll and it's another thing for a stupid person to post an opinion; they are not mutually exclusive.
EventHubs is a good site that has an unfortunate reputation for poor comments, and that will not change any time soon because of all the new fighting game players who think they're hotshots. However, at least the comments section isn't as bad as it was in the pre-registration days. That was absolutely horrendous.
With that said, nice interview.
Honestly I think they should crack down on these comment and forum sites and start handing infractions to anyone giving an opinion with no value (He sucks, he's fat, blah blah). Spare the rod spoil the child.
Sometimes too much freedom is a bad thing.
@ the guys that say that Marn has access to the game.
If Marn truly did get a chance to play the game, he has things to sign to keep things at a disclosure. If he violates that, bad things can happen to him. The only way he is saying stuff like that is through speculations.
Not attacking Marn.
But seriously, Zero and worse than TvC... gimme a break. What else do you want from Zero?
As for C Viper, glad Marn unlike me likes her atleast. Waste of slot for me.
Almost everything that comes out of this guy's mouth, from the beginning of the video, just sounds ignorant and unfounded. I don't care about his weight, size, appearance, nor his ability to play Dudley. I do, however, take issue with the comments he makes, based on NO actual statistics other than what he's merely "heard". He makes it out like he's ominpresent and omniscient when it comes to who's who, when it comes to players and their ability, by locale. Get your head out of your ass and play people OTHER than whom you find at the tournaments in the small portions of the world that you frequent and THEN talk. Give this guy some humble pie before offering him a sponsor. -Taking back what I said about the weight thing - don't give him pie.
I'm glad Viper is "officially" in. It was almost inevitable, Capcom needed someone representing the SF4 series and given the available options (Abel, El Fuerte, Rufus, Seth, Juri and Hakan) Viper was the only one that filled the bill. Her style is the one that fits better with the vs series. I can't wait to see her reveal trailer. :D
You people are....Ugh.
Hes Saying DONT CALL MARN FAT. FFS. Hes not saying dont say hes bad, hes not saying dont trash him, hes not saying dont disrespect marn. He's saying dont make fun of the way he looks. I swear to god, I'm just a lerker, but I really want to donkey punch you people sometimes.
Catalyst would be smarter is he just disabled comments on all Marn related content, lol.
I've never dissed him or even cared to (enjoy his matches as well), but he does draw a lot of negativity. If you didn't know, people focus on negative things on average 5x more than positive things.
It's not about the character all the time, it's mostly about the player (thus the high level of negative content directed towards him).
Of course the US scene is only going to get stronger if people get together and play instead of hating each other all the time. Even though the SF scene got big with 4, I can see all these fragmentations that hold the community back and it's not something just relevant to SF either.
That's why Japan is superior and probably always will be.
I do feel kind of bad for Marn though, he's never going to want to post here because he knows he's hated. Pretty comments don't fade reality. You can really damage someone's self-esteem with what you say, so just think a bit people.
in my personal opinion I think the cali tournaments were fixed to knock daigo out, as soon as it gets to top 8 its daigo vs F.Champ. daigo loses, works his way through losers then he fights him again. that happened at NCR and SCR. i cant see that being a coincidence
Marn is undeniably a good Street Fighter player, some may say one of the best in the entire world. Probably the best Dudley out there, and I can't argue with that.
But.
When it comes to the "community" that I feel that I'm a part of (and everyone else one this site) as well as all the top players in the world, I can't shake the bad vibe Marn spreads around. As a role model, or someone to look up to and feel "I would like to be like him", he is worthless. Skills aside, sportsmanship, common courtesy and behaviour IS important. Not only when it comes to competitive gaming, but also in the "real" world. I would even go so far to say that Marn isn't controversial, he is outright rude and unlikable, making him one of the few top player I don't have any respect for whatsoever. I realize that Marn doesn't care if people like him or not, but in my opinion he SHOULD. He is, after all, a well known and great player as well as a profile for the community. Therefore he, in my opinion, has a responsibility to at least act like one.
Just to head this off at the pass, ANYONE leaving negative comments about someone's appearance or belittling them for their weight will have their accounts banned.
I realize Marn has some unflattering things to say to a number of people, but he keeps it to their skills in game and isn't calling people out for personal stuff.
As such, you can keep your comments in the same vein. It's fine if you don't like Marn, disagree with his opinions, etc., but personal insults need to be kept out of this. Carry on.
