it'd take me forever to get the hang of Guile's Flash Explosion
I think, in many ways, this could be a better option than a joystick.
Unfortunately, it does have, as a weakness, the fact that leftward-facing motions will be significantly more difficult to perform unless you
A) have lots of experience playing a musical instrument
or
B) have played IIDX for many years
given the weaker motor skills of the ring finger compared to the middle finger (possibly applies to the index finger, as well, consistency might be an issue. Even using your index and middle finger for the left and down movement buttons will be awkward.
In any case, it might take a good while to get used to something like this, but I can see it having certain advantages over a stick, like faster actuation.
this is so weird, and i play on a "arcade keyboard" myself: http://shoryuken.com/podcasts/keystic...
i guess the layout presented in the video is really good for advanced movement (super jump cancels, instant air dashing, wave dashing, trijumps etc.) because the UP direction is separated and pressed with the other hand
anyway, little known fact since fighting games are mostly on console: keyboard is easier than gamepad/stick. doing wrist and thumb motions is pretty inconsistent when you can tap directions instead. this is my opinion anyway.. but i'm playing on all 3 types of controllers, so it's not really a stretch
Seems more efficient, almost knocks out inconsistencies
#6: there's no side bias on keyboard. motions are equally easy on both sides, because you only have to press directional buttons
with motions on a stick, your hand grips the stick pretty asymetrically and you may have better accuracy with inward or outward motions
This plays on the strengths of the keyboard and removes its weaknesses. Having a finger directly over every direction is far superior to a control scheme which -must- exclusively switch between directions (ie. you cannot press back and forward at the same time on a stick or pad. Doing so on a keyboard has forward overriding back, so you can advance by pressing both forward and back and resume blocking merely by releasing forward.)
Where can I get one?
Hey guys, they've got a thread up on SRK with some FAQ's as well
One thing about it thought, people were talking about the inate weakness with doing motions from down to left.
At first I was worried about the same thing but then I realized that you could just place your fingers and sort of roll your wrist to get the motion. It would be no slower than a joystick as that's the same muscles you use to control the stick itself.
Didn't someone actually used this type of stick at a major tourney not long ago?
its neat but I like pad/stick motions, this may be more accurate tho.

I just posted a video of my hands on a PS3 pad if ya'll are interested in seeing how to do high level combos on PS3 pad. I'm just performing two different combos with Guy, one being a counter hit combo. Enjoy!
I used to play X-Men Vs. Street Fighter on PC so naturally I used a keyboard. I could do anything with everybody, but HCF/B proved to be annoying and 360's were harder than hell to perform (I could not imagine 720's).
The layout of the Hit-Box seems to address that issue seeing as it has each direction layed out in a line, and all you'd have to do is get good at pianoing. Whereas I used FPS style (WASD).
Move consistency was unquestionable. With Charlie I could do four air slashes after a super jump with ease. Instant air slashes so tripping someone meant EZ OTG sj.slash > c.FP combo if they didn't roll. Players with incredible execution could possibly end up doing better on a stickless stick.
I'd like one that where the arrow keys are on the right and asdf, zxcv were my attacks on the left. How I play :o. Other wise I'd just stick with keyboard and stick. This is still a pretty awesome alternative :D.
That guy has my respect, that was beyond impressive.

musicians already have an easier time with street fighter. I think this is definatley something that could be big.
seems good if u have good finger coordination. its just like the sticks muscle memory and just practice. but at least u would have to worr about d-pad and joysticks wont go out just ur buttons. but when buttons stick bad buissnes.
Kids and their gimmick controls today.
I'll stick with the arcade stick and sega saturn pad.
Is Guiles super flash still done (1)319 (DB,DF,DB,UF)?
how does that work exactly when this only has 2,4,6&8?
@#34 you know due to the shortcut system you can end them zig zag supers with any up motion, so 7,8,9. Also for Claw user it allows them to choose which wall they wanna dive too with U1 and his super so you would just end up pressing 48,68 for the corners.
Also you can do 360s with an odd motion of 4,6,2,8 if you dont feel like pianoing in ssf4 or to throw off anyone listening to your inputs
just like COD people need there stick extensions and Turtle beach headsets, if you wanna BUY success in a computer game. Go for it.
That's what I'm talkin' about. A left thumb jump button. The right thumb just doesn't do it because of finger-thumb commands. But the name's kind of ambiguous because hit box is already well known as the collision area in 3D. Tap box would be better in my opinion.
It's easier than kb.. i've made some trials no van with ryu, abel, ken.
anyway good stuff
I play sf4 on pc using keyboard and this guy didnt show you every thing you can do on this HitBox. He just showed one good shortcut for srk (hold forward button, press down button while holding forward button then release forward button and hit punch button fast).
Other ways to do it:
1-Hold down button, double tap forward while holding down then press punch button.
2- Hold down+forward buttons, release the forward button while holding down button, press forward while still holding down button then hit the punch button. This shortcut is most useful on Fei Long cause you can do his Shienkyaku from crouching block very easily.
3-Ryu's ultra or super:
you should do the same as step "1" but at the end instead of holding the down button you should release it and hold forward then hit the punch button for super or 3 punches for ultra. This shortcut is very sick. I can do srk fadc then ultra with ruy like i am doing nothing.
So for a combo example on Ryu:
Let's take "Crouching hard punch, srk, super". All you have to do is: hold down button, hit forward button then hard punch button while holding down button(executes the crouching hard punch) , do the same thing again while holding the down button (executes srk), then press forward button and keep holding it and release the down button then hit hard punch button(will execute super). You just try to do this step by step on the arrow keys of the keyboard. Start slowly then go faster when it becomes easy for you.
Very sick, isn't it.
For charge characters:
You can keep holding the charge button and press the other
direction key then hit kick or punch button without releasing the charge button. This applies on back charge -> forward or down charge -> up.
It works on supers and ultras too. You dont have to release the charged button, you just double tap the other direction button while holding the charge button.
You just try everything i mentioned on your keyboard even if you don't have sf4 on pc. Just do the motions exactly as i said and you will notice how easy it is.
Regards.
And Capcom please give us SSF4 on pc. F--k all those pirates, we pc users need to play the best fighting game ever.
Basically something really similar to playing on a keyboard. I play SF on keyboard all the time.
