Capcom's Christian Svensson made an enlightening post on the Unity Boards recently explaining why some of the projects fans have requested haven't gotten through the approval process, and also delves into the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 demo.Since the fans are demanding it, what's taking so long to make a Darkstalkers 4, Capcom vs. SNK 4 or Darkstalkers HD Remix?
Svensson: Several reasons (and these go for any "why aren't you developing XYZ fighting game right now")... right now we're focused on Street Fighter X Tekken, SSFIV: 3D Edition, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and maybe something else somewhere... that's more than enough fighting products for an audience to digest in the near term without overly cannibalizing each other.
Second, we also only have so many development resources. Not just any team can make a credible fighting game and we have loads of requests for lots of titles that we don't have the resources to make.
Thirdly, while we listen very closely to fan requests, any product decisions has to overlay positively against strategic objectives and be prioritized against product viability.
Lastly, it takes years to make a game (that's multiple years), even an HD Remix, so while we may get to them some day, that day is still likely to be a ways off.
If MvC3 is about fan-service then why is there no pre-release demo for fans who didn't get the chance to go to any of the expos or tournaments?
Svensson: Again, several reasons: First, schedule. If you wanted a demo, you'd have had fewer characters, less polish or some other tradeoff in the full game because the game absolutely had to ship within this fiscal year (business reality).
Demos take time to make, test and submit and they aren't cheap which would mean something else would have to be cut or reduced to have time in the schedule and budget to do it. Secondly, historically our retail fighting game releases have not had demos and we don't believe that has hurt sales or long term consumer feedback if the experience is good (and in MvC3, it is great).
Lastly, we have made the game available to play at literally dozens of events around the world, so sampling opportunities have existed. It doesn't mean everyone who would want to try it has had the opportunity, but I would venture a guess that literally hundreds of thousands have since we announced the title back in April.
Why isn't MvC3 coming to the Wii?
Svensson: The Wii received Tatsunoko vs. Capcom as its Versus offering. We wanted development and business focus on X360/PS3 for MvC3.
Is Jon Talbain on the MvC3 DLC list?
Svensson: Sorry, but I can't talk about DLC plans at this time. You'll need to wait and see and I thank you for your patience.
Will there be an updated version of MvC3 sold after it's initial release?
Svensson: Sorry guys, I've got no light I can shed here on future plans for the franchise.
Fair play, they do ask some dumb question. I respect Ono and crew for having the patience to deal with such muppets on a constant basis
I think it's fair to assume that we'll get a GOTY re-release of MVC3 somewhere down the line with all the DLC characters unlocked on the disc from the start.
LOL so let me get this straight, you cant make a demo cause it would take resources and would take away from the original game? why cant you guys just use the original or tgs build as the demo? isnt that already a ... demo???? i really dont see why that wouldnt just work?
whats ssfIV: 3D edition? is that the console version of AE or...?
@16:
No, dude. The news and info are at least two characters every month until the release date (Sven says).
Probably, and according to the final roster, which is likely to be 40, we'll see 4 characters in December and 4 in January, with the final 2 (maybe DLC announcements for the future) in the first week of February.
Wait until the Jump Festa, 18-19 December, for the new characters of this month.
SSF4 3D edition really looks good so far. I mean come on, It's Street Fighter, 3D AND portable. It will be more for fun then skill though.
"Hey Capcom, do you guys like to make money?"
that question is better than most of these questions that have been answered hundreds of times before.
and shame on who ever had that balls to asked why MvC3 isnt coming to the Wii, dont be so oblivious man...flippin tards...
i want new character releases or im gonna lose it!!!
"Street Fighter X Tekken, SSFIV: 3D Edition, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and maybe something else somewhere"
im loving the future, most probable options for that misterious title would be darkstalkers 4 or cvs 3
C'mon guys, the dude obviously pressed 4 instead of 3. It happens! Sucks about the no demo thing, i live in houston and if there was an event for us in texas to play it, it would definately be in dallas cuz they full of crap.
....u mean CAPCOM VS SNK 3 id like to see a 4th tho ^_^
I really don't see them making a DS4 because any new idea would have to be for SF5. CvS series is small potatoes compared to MvC3, which is the better of the two vs series, also with the new "X" series it would be unwise to do a different vs game. IMO from a business standpoint because at the end of the day its a business, Power Stone would be revived because it is completely different fighting game then what they have planned for release.
@32; they are listening just that the characters fans want from MvC2 or new ones that we demanded would end up as DLC because it is much harder to make DLC revenue off of some he characters thy announced.
CvS3 wishlist:
- Rock Howard (Garou/CvS2)
- Maki (CvS2/SFA3 Max)
- Vanessa (KoF 2002 UM)
- Setsuna (Last Blade 2)
- K' (KoF 2002 UM)
- B. Jenet (Garou)
I would suck Capcom's d*** dry if I get those characters.
Capcom's stupid as phuck for not starting DS4 while the "gettin's good."
Yeah, just keep whoring out SF and the VS series and THEN put out the games that aren't as popular. Capcom phucking sucks for this. I bet we get a Ultra Hagendaaz Scoop, Mango SFIV and a Capcom Versus the Ninja turtles, Power Pangers, and the Jonas Brothers before we EVER see DS4
MvC3 IS NOT CRAP! Capcom's made some pretty awful choices for the roster for the most part and its mainly Marvel side I have beef with but the game looks great. I just felt they wasted the opportunity to bring light on older franchises like Strider for example. Honestly Spencer ain't going to magically make copies of Bionic Fail fly off the shelf just because of MvC3.
I reserve judgement on Feb 15th. If its garbage, then I'll formally rip this game a new one.
It's CVS4.
It depends on how you look at it.
If you consider SVC chaos an entry in the Capcom/SNK crossover franchise (which it is by definition), then there has already been a Capcom Vs. Snk 3. It was just called SNK Vs. Capcom.
So, in a way, CVS4 would be correct.
Be great if Sven does this more often, as oppose to Ono. Sorry Ono you cool & all, but I prefer facts over tease. MvC3's shaping up quite nicely imo. Glad I pre-orderd the SE. That $10 extra will be worth it. Also looking foward to any new info about the other franchises. Good thing I'm patient. Also, good thing I got stuff to keep me occupied for a while (SSF4 & MvC3). No need to rush.
#32 So i guess dante, deadpool, wesker, spiderman, zero and morrigan or all due to nothing. Now your talking out your ass the people that don't read comics don't know whats popular on the marvel side and people just keep saying capcom don't listen yet they know people wanted dante and deadpool in the roster.
Why are people so impatient that they want a demo? Demos cost money to put up, money that could go into developing balance patches or extra content instead.
I don't mind having to wait a few more months, because really guys, it's right around the corner. Just wait a little.
juanrock
Ono,while a troll at times did give us the date before December 21st 2012 which gives him 23 months to get the game gold which is possible since they're using proven technology and graphical style and Hirada has said it will follow meaning 2013
People who keep asking for a MvC3 demo need to be slapped. The reasons why there is not going to be a PSN/XBL demo should have been obvious, but even when someone like Sven comes out and spells it out for everybody there are still people who just don't get it.
On another note, Sven and Seth are awesome, as people have pointed out. They don't spew nonsense like Ono and Niitsuma.
That's the lamest excuse for not putting up a demo on PSN/XBL. There were demos for Dead Rising 1+2 (Case Zero is practically a demo IMO), Devil Mary Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Lost Planet 1+2, and Bionic Commando. It's BS that there weren't demos for SFIV and SSFIV, and it's BS that they aren't gonna have one for MVC3.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost that much money to put up. And I'm pretty damn sure that it costs way more money traveling around the country/world and hosting all of those "fight clubs" than putting up a demo for d/l.
Okay how about Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Final Fight Double Impact, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. They are Street Fighter related games and they have a free trial demo that you can d/l. Also they have all of these different builds of the MVC3 like the Evo build, TGS build, Comic Con build, and etc. Put one of those up instead of going around wasting time and money for hosting those "fight clubs".
I´m a big Marvel fan. I've played every game since X-Men CoA. I like Tarsunoko vs Capcom, but Marvel is much better known in America.
In addition, Capcom did not even make a good conversion for america in Tatsunoko vs Capcom (voices, minigames or music).
Do not want to bring Marvel vs Capcom 3 to wii?? FINE!!!.. I want DLC for Tatsunoko vs Capcom!!!!!!!!!!! I want to play with Felicia and John Talbain! (and Wolverine if it´s possible)
