Christian Svensson made a new post on the Unity Boards recently concerning DLC (downloadable content) for games. Do DLC announcements hurt or help sales of games?
Svensson: DLC announcements and releases almost always boost sales of a base product. That's separate from the revenue driven by the DLC itself.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be delivered in 2011, will it be the game that was worth waiting around ten years for?
Svensson: Not that you'd expect me to say anything other than this, but:
I'm expecting extremely high review scores and extremely positive consumer feedback based upon everything we've seen when we've let people play it.
I have a lot of confidence in Niitsuma's title.
A Dragon Ball Z game is going to use GGPO. Is Capcom going to use this technology in future titles?
Svensson: I'm sorry but I can't comment about the future of titles that don't yet exist or that we aren't yet ready to talk about.
That said, I'm pleased to see GGPO getting more support. I'm a huge advocate for the technology internally (as is Seth Killian) and I can only see that as a positive factor for the future of network gaming in general.
just confirms what we already know after shuma and jill were announced. no going back now youre gonna pay extra for the games to get all of the characters and costumes and other stuff now.
good news is that capcom is going to update their games more often with new stuff so i guess thats a fair trade. balance changes are always needed after release so those will come along too i bet.
@3 Time is money and Capcom spends time making these characters and other stuff. No DLC means less characters in the roster and less options, but it's also going to play havoc on tournament organizers who have to pay for all of the characters on multiple consoles so they have everyone available for the people playing in the tournaments.
This is the future and anyone who follows games nowadays knew this. But Capcom and other companies have to be smart about DLC are its going to bite them in the ass. Free stuff should always be given with the DLC, so balance updates and things better come along with this.
waste of flesh! lets see shuma in action then, curious to see what they did with his ground magic series seeing how he never really had any, also if he still gonna be a charge character still, hulk kinda breached away from that but also lost his armor too :(
In all honesty I had a feeling Shuma was going to make the roster and what really excited me was his 3-D transformation. I just hope at the very least his Mystic Stare will be a fireball or even a half-circle motion. Too bad he's DLC and on another topic, I actually don't see the roster as lackluster. Alot of surprise ringers put in, I am very pleased with the reults thus far.
most likely the balance update will be free to keep everyone in sync, not sure how they have the gameplay servers set up, but have 2 versions of the same game in seperate gaming pools would be quite messy to deal with.
Does that Shuma quote seem to mean hes nearly finished? 3 months early?
@#12 Ranked matchs (or tournys) will more than likely force you too use the latest changes.
Player matchs will be chosen by the host again, forcing everyone to use the same settings.
I cant see a problem.
i hate when someone says this roster is crappier than MVC2.ARE YOU KIDDING ME?do you really want to deal with that God tier BS again?Only 4 people on the capcom side was decent enough to fight godtiers. Now we have better chance but of course someone still cry and bitch about it
im NOT buying MVC3!!
all this DLC and rejected franchises aim not pleased how Capcom is treating us the fans.
@16 exactly, even the OG pro's are happy with MvC3, especially Yipes, they are hyped and so excited, im pretty sure they get tired of playing god tier mirror matches all day, fun or not.
#17 well they lowered the price of SSFIV to 39.99 and it's going down even more now and people are still bitchin about DLC like costumes and having to pay for Yun and Yang. So there is no pleasing everyone, truth is if they want it, they are gonna buy it so I don't know why people complain.
it would be different if you were forced, at least you can fight Yun and Yang online if you don't want to buy them. At least there will be a way to do that.
I'm very curious to see Shuma in action. But no Strider does not make me happy.
@MrPavy
Are you retarted? Roster picks are not synonymous with balance. All those lower tier characters from mvc2 could easily be remade to stand a fighting chance...
I'm happy for the most part about the roster so far, but that comment was just stupid...
@Sakura
You know at some point in time some of these characters were considered good. Take Captain America in Marvel Super Heroes for instance. He was top tier in MSH and a few big changes to his speed and comboability over a few games made him low tier. Some characters can stand a chance if you make them like their older more powerful selves.
Hey, whoever copy/pasted this, there seems to be an error on the second question.
Somebody at Gfaqs pointed this out (credit goes to Tundlater for the find.)

Apparently some seem confused by how the context of this article is worded.
At last a thread that's not filled with whining @ssholes and fanboys! When will people learn to move on? I mean I was disappointed when I learned that Charlie/Nash died in SF4, but I moved on. I honestly thought that Strider would be in for a while so I tried to get good with him, but I just couldn't do it.
Also there is something interesting that Niishuma said. He stated that they were adding characters from the last ten years of their adventure games. If this is true we'd be getting Victor Delicriox, Mike Haggar, Frank West/Chuck Greene (I'm fine with either), Tessa, and Megaman (Classic). We probably won't get Jin, or SonSon but I'm cool with that.
On the Marvel side the roster has to do with current events or popular franchises that are recent. we'll probably get Thanos, Psylocke, Venom/Carnage, Moon Knight, and Black Panther.
You see, Capcom's hogging the new character slots!
i just cant understand why people is so mad with the cast, i mean seriously, its sucks that some cool characters where cut off but we also got really cool ones, i personally think the cast of marvel vs capcom 3 so far is better than its predecesor
x-23 > bone claw wolverine (seriously why did they put two)
deadpool > most of the cast of mvc 2
trish > ruby heart
dante > all
zero > megaman (and he could still be in the game)
amaterasu > other small characters like serbot and roll
also arthur, albert wesker, viewtiful Joe and dormammu. and hell, those are only the ones that i love, there are more cool characters yet, sure there are some unpopular desitions like MODOK but i think he could be pretty fun to play, im sure as hell i like those characters more than iceman, anakaris, amingo, hayato, ruby heart, serbot and two wolverines.
Man F#ck this game, the directors are so f#cking stupid f#ck this.
#18
It could be worse, you could be a PC SF/Capcom Fan.
@#2 Seriously, stupid questions 90% of the time.
Regarding DLC, I don't have problems with it per se, in fact I think it's a great option for fighting because it allows for much needed balance tweaks, new characters, etc. What I have problems with is companies selling 80% of the game at full price and then selling the rest of the game (which was developed along with the first 80%) as DLC on release date.
To me, no Strider, completely killed the hype I had for the release date.
And I'm not the only one for sure. So good job Capcom.
Glad I didn't pre-order when I had the chance. I'll grab it cheaper later when everyone found the broken teams and when no one can stand the online anymore.
shuma gorath has been in msh, mshvsf,mvc2 and coming to mvc3. gorath better have more moves aside from the typical level 3
What the hell is a shuma gorath? I want my strider dammit!!
Love that Sven is straight with us, even with the news may not be what we wanted to hear.
@balmung55
Man will you stfu already the majority is already shown to like the roster better through facebook and other big name sites stop licking your own dick and realize you don't speak for everyone. Don't buy the game this is good means that i won't have to see your scrubby as* online.
Also to those who don't want the game go play MK9 or COD.you know other games that have DLC that should have been in the games as well yet the same people here still pay money for it. People just love to complain about anything.
@42
I know, but surely you didn't know about it before SF4 came out. There was no annoucemant about Charlie's death until it was revealed in Guile's story. That's what I mean.
this was always coming. I can swear now I wont buy DLC characters but I think if you care enough about a game to come to a forum dedicated to it and post then your gonna end up buying it even if you dont like it
Intresting thing will be can DLC characters be anything above low teir ? I cant see any being made high teir
Watch I bet 90% of the complaints will be about a certain character not being in the game.
People still care about GGPO?
I tried it for a bit and all i got was laggy and choppy gameplay. I get better performance on Kaillera servers with 80+ ping.
"if the simulations diverge, GGPO rolls back to the most recent accurate state, corrects the mistake, and jumps back to the current frame, all before the player can notice. This provides the illusion of lag-free gameplay."
"Rollbacks" and "jump-backs" are the reasons why this will never be as good as simple and streamlined netcode.
raymk-STFU- u dont even make sence. People been waiting along time for an actual good MK game. After MK3 ultimate the franchise dropped drastically. Also cod & mw keeps being bogus with multiplayer issues and crappy dlc. For MvC3, honestly in my opinion there roster sucks. I tought about pre ordering it like black-ops. Thank God, but for mvc3 theres still time for improvement, dlc and patches. Just going to wait after its release date to see how it really is. It sucks when theres no online demo or beta to test it before you buy it. Dont see why not when other companies are doing it. Im a fighting game and fps player and fanboi. Doesnt make sence when you dont put a beta out. Thats like flipping a coin-50_50 and saying to yourself f#$k it il buy it anyways no matter if its good or bad. Thats how these awful companies keep getting paid for not releasing a beta or demo. And keep on making more crappy games. Example dynasty warriors and marvel games. Even 2k is starting to be crappy.
Even killer instinct gets me hyped. Getting tired of sf wanna be games like snk and darkstalkers. Gimme MK and killer instinct. Two classic games that would rival any fighting game franchise. Just give them a company that knows what there doing. SF still reins supreme.
honestly shryuken & hadoken type of attacks in snk. snk is a company trying to copy capcoms fighting stlye. never bought or played snk games because capcom was always on point with there games. do you see snk game tournaments. i think that proves my point. hell or an adventure or shooter from them
dlc's are what they are just after thoughts that either were on the cutting floor or something they felt they could make money with. just be thankful theres more. just dont chargeup the ass for the later to come and dont wait to long to do it.
Why play snk when sf clearly dominates them. Dont see people hyped or bragging about snk. SNK never stood a chance. My opinion.MK3 ultimate was the best. After that just crapy 3d fighting games. Mortal combat 4 or alliance.Dont think so.
The only thing helping snk is capcom. snk vs capcom-snk vs capcom2 gimme a break & just sell that company to capcom already. seriously
@68 The KOF series were really good until KOF 2002. The best games of the series are 98 and 2002 and the game are extremely good and fun to play.
I really don't know why these games were never popular in USA but there very popular in Mexico and South America and played at very high competitive level in several countries around the world not just USA and Japan like SF games. USA was maybe just too busy playing Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo who knows but you all missed a great series of games.
I like more K.O.F than SF but with KOF 2003 and SNK dead it was not the same. They loose Shinkiro as an artist a lot of the people that make K.O.F good back when they died.
K.O.F 12 and K.O.F 13 both sucks and are just not the same.
Guess there's no going back now. DLC characters are going to be a part of the future no matter what if Capcom is making big $$$$ off of them.
