what if you do a quarter circle forward, and the damn d-pad spins???

If people still can't use the control, consider getting a arcade stick :)

hell yeah,finally i can finish up my trials easier i tried to use the arcade stick but i just couldnt adapt to it,im to used to playing with the controller ill pay for this..

Yeah this wont change anything for fighting games on xbox, or any game on xbox for that matter no one plays with the d pad on xbox controller. But for fighting games just get arcade sticks.

btw catalyst, could you write up some summary in the future about the work on eventhubs? I'm curious how many ppl are behind it, how many mails you get per day, where you recive your normal infos from, who decides what goes news or which are the criterias for it, how many time you spend working on it each day etc etc
would be cool to see such a news ^^

I'd rather just use a fight pad its cheaper and all 6 buttons are in the face. its a cool idea though. my question is why not keep it the "fighting mode" and sell it like that, whats the use for the other way?
Posted by Arrancar on August 31, 2010 at 3:25 p.m. #10
Finally mircosoft makes a new D-Pad for fighting games!?! the world is coming to an end.. #8 has is right plz read. ^___^
Posted by FigD on August 31, 2010 at 3:31 p.m. #11
It should be noted that the new pad comes packaged with a Play and Charge Kit. So its not just the pad for $65.
My pad is from my launch console and is showing signs of where so I'll probably pick it up. Not for fighting games, I've got a TE for that, but it would be nice to have a proper D-Pad for some XBLA stuff like Megaman 9/10.
My issue is that the walls of the D-Pad well still look high enough that the edges of the pad will hit the wall before pressing down all the way. This was one of the issues with the old D-Pad (and reason for the Pringles top mods), so I hope this isn't the case.

I gotta say, i am by no means a fan of microsoft they're losing the console race (opinion) by far. They have no web browser, batteries needed for cntrl, online costs every year, no download of YT, and movies straight to system, no video uploader, and lack of accessories. Pheew, so besides that cntrl still being stupid fat, its a pretty slick design, sony should make something similar, but far better to keep beating Xbox @ almost everything. That is all.
Posted by alfarin on August 31, 2010 at 3:35 p.m. #13
...Or just get an S.E stick for the same price.
Yeah.... Didn't think that entirely through did you?

@FigD
Added a note about the Play and Charge Kit, my bad, should have been in there.

I don't use an XBox, so this doesn't effect me either way. I suppose it's a step in the right direction, but the location of the D-Pad still irks me. I never liked it at the bottom.

P.S. Your controller still sucks microsoft

Why didnt they do this before? The controller looks sick. Nuff said.

Pad-warrior here.
Personally I'd stick to the HORI/Madcatz ones (even though I've messed up my Dpad a bit on the Hori-it'll move itself once in awhile). Even with this "addition" the button layout doesn't quite feel comfortable. FADC will always be easier to me on the Hori compared to retail 360.
It's cool they have us in mind though-I just have a feeling there's going to be a whole new batch of frustration with the pad always going back down involuntarily.
Posted by Caj814 on August 31, 2010 at 3:53 p.m. #19
That $65+ is better invested into a Madcatz TE Stick when they go on sale for $99 during big gaming events.There should be some more companies stepping up to make decent pads though.Why hasn't someone literally take the Sega Saturn controller mold and use that for a 360 controller?
Posted by n00b_saib0t on August 31, 2010 at 3:54 p.m. #20
@theshotokan
you're focusing on all the wrong aspects of a console (aside from RROD, thats a big flaw). i have both systems, and i can honestly say i prefer the 360.
first of all, the 360 was out well before bluray was and its a sony thing. you're a couple different kinds of stupid if you think its gonna be included. second, it doesnt effect the games at all.
youtube and a web browser? who freaking cares? it doesnt effect the games at all.
the controller takes batteries? some do. the console comes with a battery pack and charging cable FFS.
as for XBL costing money, you get what you pay for. PSN online play is pure trash. XBL online is much less lagtastic and i've never had problems finding a game there either.
youre just a sony fanboy, cut the crap. the PS3 does a lot of things right, but the 360 is just better. if it wasnt for RROD, it would be hands down the better system. i just have a PS3 for the exclusive games.

@zUkUu
That isn't quite something I could do a news story on, but definitely works as a comment response.
1) As far as the future of the site goes, I can't get into too many details yet, but I will say there's some exciting stuff coming. One thing coming VERY soon.
2) Right now, it's only me working on the site, although I get a ton of contributions from the community. When I first started I had some friends and family helping, but they dropped off a ways into the project.
3) I get about twenty emails a day, on average.
4) I have a number of resources I check for news. Twitter, forums, other websites, comments, etc. I pretty much try to check any where and every where that I think will have good information. Also, I do some in-house stories depending on trends or interesting things I see in the community.
5) The criteria for which stories are posted is really difficult to explain. There are so many things I look at when deciding if I'll post something, but the two most important things are quality and interest factor. If something is good quality and I think interesting to the community at large, I'll more than likely post it. But, there are A LOT of other factors.
6) As far as time spent on the site... A TON. I don't keep track of the hours I spend working on it, but besides time spent with my son, girlfriend and family... with occasional breaks to play fighting games... pretty much all of the rest of the time I'm on EventHubs. I've made a personal commitment to make this site the absolute best resource for Capcom fighting games, and I'm still trying to make sure that's the case. So, I end up spending a lot of time working on things, but I don't get burnt out because I enjoy it.
Hope that answers everything, but let me know if you have more questions.

it still wont be as confortable as the PS3 pad (not starting a war here just stating the obvious). take a look at the PS3 pad. the D-pad is not connected from the middle whereas the 360 is. it will still be kinda slippery not as much...but still. if you dont understand what im saying look at a pic of a PS3 pad and compare it to the new 360 pad. you'll see what i mean.
Posted by ChunLi on August 31, 2010 at 4:34 p.m. #26
Against popular belief, There ARE people who use the D-Pad for fighting games, for, *I* am one of them.
I do not use Arcade Sticks, I use controller, that is what I prefer, you should play according to how you feel comfortable, not how "Pro" you feel.
I do not own a 360, only PS3/Wii, so whenever I am over a friend's house that wants to play SSF4 on his 360, I do my best with the D-Pad. This is a REALLY great innovation for the 360 controllers, I'll have a better chance when I'm forced to play SSF4 on 360, but....that's really expensive...

@Moguaiz
Thank you for the compliments.
As far as recognition, I'm totally cool with what I get right now. The fact I feel there's such an awesome community here who love these games as much as I do, and want to check out this site and be a part of it is all I need.
If I can help grow the scene and make it more positive, that's really what I'm after, just knowing I helped and was a part of it.

@theNooB Lol, you're trying so hard to defend the Xbox lol i have all three systems so don't try, and lecture me child. Thanks for reminding me about blu-ray as well, another thing ps3 has on Xbox. Even the newest Xbox doesn't come with blu-ray, or web browser, or chargers for a controller. I got my Xbox in 2006, and since then have had to get 3 because of RROD. I guess you get what you pay for lol stupid. You're just a bitter, and butt-hurt douche who dislikes truth lol. Ps3 >>>>> Wii, and that other system, lol the ps3's mechanics are soo facile vs the Xbox's intricate mechanics you can't even find certain things at times. My brother also has one, and it took him 5 min to find the area with the ip address settings, and he's had his Xbox since 2005. Oh, and he's also got the RROD once, and had to get another lol. GGs douche Ps3 wins by a long shot apologies every1 for being off topic, but idiocy, lunacy, and stupidity, well, they just grind my gears lol.
Posted by JELIFISH19 on August 31, 2010 at 6:39 p.m. #36
I don't think this controller was made for fighting games. The genre doesn't have a big enough impact for Microsoft to change the design of the controller, especially when there are plenty of alternatives available. Not to mention that the fighting game community is pretty small, and the people who take it seriously probably already have a different controller. I think the controller is more for retro style games on XBLA. It's the exact same price as the older controllers and it's not like people stopped buying 360s and controllers. They just improved the design.
Posted by SoulBroRyu on August 31, 2010 at 6:40 p.m. #37
Not only does this help for fighters, but for the truckloads of Arcade games that most of us have.
Playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the stock pad was a nightmare. Thanks goodness for MadCatz ^_^
Posted by Staffinator on August 31, 2010 at 6:51 p.m. #38
Ok here's the problem. There's nothing wrong with the surface of the dpad, it's actually smooth and comfortable. The problem is the location of the thing. You basically HAVE to keep your thumb 90 degrees from your fingers at all times. You begin cramping after a short playthrough when you start trying the dpad. You're better off using the joystick or just spending a lil cash on a madcatz pad or fight stick.
If Microsoft really wanted to make an official "fighting" controller they'd switch the joystick and dpad out (like a ps3 controller) and maybe increase the dpad's size just a bit
Posted by Gameplan on August 31, 2010 at 6:53 p.m. #39
@JELIFISH19
I'd say the 360 dpad is bad for anything that requires any kind of precision to hit a specific direction and only that direction. God knows how many times I've screwed up in games that use the dpad for changing spells/weapons/items/whatever because of that thing, obviously fighting games are completely out of the question.

Razer Onza, made by Razer who imo make the best mice. Watch the video it looks like a crazy epic controller.
Posted by tokyobassist on August 31, 2010 at 7:41 p.m. #43
DS3 for me. I had 4 360's. The system is built for non gamers for dumb kids and one dimensional American gamers. Not every 360 owner falls under these but a majority do and in denial about its lack of understanding & innovation. PS3 and Wii are trendsetters. M$ are half baked copycats.
LOL at fanboys still talking about PSN being inferior...ISP is crucial to good online play as well. That $50 a year doesn't mean jack. Cross game chat is the only thing useful.
Posted by zores on August 31, 2010 at 8:27 p.m. #44
@n00b_saib0t
Msssive fanboism. I have SSF4 for both 360 and PS3, and there is no difference in the actual online play. PS3 is not laggier online you don't know what you are talking about. Sure you can enter rooms a litle quicker on 360 but that's it.
Posted by Loghorn on August 31, 2010 at 10:11 p.m. #45

@ TheShotokan
i cant figure out if you're is trolling or if you're just stupid enough to think that all the extra garbage matters. people like you are the reason the PS3 and 360 cost so freaking much. its a fact that the reason we're raped on the price of consoles is because of all the extra crap that goes into them to impress feeble minded people who care more about everything a video game console does that ISNT playing games than actually playing video games.
@ zores
all i find on PSN, ANY GAME, are lag filled rooms. very rarely do i come across a playable game. again, i'm not talking about SSF4 but all the games i have played.
call me a fanboy all you want, i own both systems. i have MM9 and 10 on PS3 because the controller is superior. i have both the PS3 and 360 versions of SF4, but only play on PS3 because thats what console i found my TE for first. i dont see how i'm a fanboy for the 360 just because it does the gaming aspect of things better than the PS3.

Posted by RyuMinati on September 1, 2010 at 4:54 p.m. #58
well i will be getting one just to see for myself but i would question how it would work in case of certian actions heres an example
guiles FADC to ultra 1
down/back focus attack forward dash down/back up/forward 3kick
now im a pad player who puts a bit to much pressure on the pad at times so would a motion like that in addition to more pressure on the dpad or not result in the dpad changing shape (cross-circle) if so then that will deff be a problem
Posted by KO_Dread on September 1, 2010 at 5:47 p.m. #59
Im sorry microsoft but i think the d-pad will spin a little.
I think microsoft should swap the d-pads position with the left analog's position. I know why they didnt but i find it hard anyway because of the position.
The cross doesnt need raising, circular disc bit needs lowering with the current pad to give a similar effect.
Make the Conducter Pads (what ever you call them) inside bigger so we don't jump when we are just trying to move forwards - this is a strict pointer that may decide whether I buy more than 1 of those pads.

I'm a pad player and I'm a bit apprehensive about whether this actually does improve execution. Seems like a gimmick to me. I'll wait on some player reviews. If this does work as claimed then I'll get it. Honestly I don't think Joysticks are worth the price so I'm glad that at least one game company is willing to alter their D-pad design to make fighting games that much easier on the pad.
On another note, I don't like how its bundled with the charge kit. That just inflates the price unnecessarily.
