Capcom staff talks about remaking old games A few Capcom staff members commented on the status of remaking older titles from their library of fighting games.

They mostly gives reasons why these titles aren't in development, but it seems like Alpha 3 has more of a chance of showing up than others. The gang also chimes in on a few other subjects.

What are the odds of these games coming to the PlayStation Network?

Capcom vs. SNK PRO
Capcom vs. SNK 2 HD
Marvel vs. Capcom
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Street Fighter Alpha 3 HD
Street Fighter III Third Strike HD
Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix (aka Pocket Fighter) HD Remix
SVC Chaos: SNK Vs. Capcom (SNK developed title)

Christian Svensson: Anything "Vs" the chances are pretty low due to there being another party involved.

Street Fighter Alpha 3, maybe. Street Fighter 3, we've announced that "online edition" was happening and you'll have to wait and see what else happens with that title.

What's keeping you guys from doing HD Remixed versions of Alpha 3, Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix and other games like that?

Rey Jimenez: Mainly time and resources. These games aren't simply tossed over the fence and original code and magically propped to PSN/XBLA with little cost and effort. Our teams [are] booked with projects for the next few years and we have some big things in the pipe and there's just not enough people do to all of the games that you want.

How come we haven't seen any new stuff for Street Fighter X Tekken for so long? You keep showing us stuff we've seen before. Show new characters!

Seth Killian: Sorry, there are no plans for significant new stuff on this one for a while — as we mentioned but you might have forgotten, this game is still a looong way away, so it's still very unfinished.

Why did you allow Turbo buttons on MadCatz Street Fighter 4 pads and sticks?

Christian Svensson: Because people use these sticks for more than just Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom.

I recommend Castle Crashers with speed maxed and full turbo on your bow. :)

Eventhubs admins you guys should do something about SRK stealing all of your news. When you post stuff they post it like 3 hours later and don't credit you at all... thats hella lame.

Posted by Struggs on August 25, 2010 at 11:35 p.m. #6

@5

It's a known fact that shoryuken.com steals almost everything they post from Eventhubs, you can even see other people on SRK talking about it here: http://shoryuken.com/content/srk-netw...

I don't know what Eventhubs could do. I don't understand why they still keep linking to a website that bad mouths us here and steals content from this site without crediting them.

Posted by ScytheWP on August 25, 2010 at 11:50 p.m. #7

@ 5 & 6

Unfortunately, I'm sure there is nothing they can do. Technically, Eventhubs does not own the information it puts here.

Look at it positively though. They need to take from us to have a credible site. We're number 1!

Posted by Catalyst on August 25, 2010 at 11:56 p.m. #8

Hey guys, about SRK, I have no direct affiliation with them, so what they do or don't do is up to them.

As far as why I link to their site... There are a bunch of people who post their events and other stuff on Shoryuken. It's been around for ages and they post there because it's the site they know. Those people want to get the information about the games and events they're hosting out there to the masses, and I'm not going to hurt the community by not posting this stuff just because there are a few people doing weird things.

I'm a bit biased here, but I think this site is definitely one of the best at news and information for Capcom fighting games, but I'm not so jaded to think that it could ever have everything people would want to see.

As such — from the beginning — I've always linked to other websites freely and will continue to do so. Just because it isn't on EventHubs doesn't mean the community shouldn't know about it. As such, I like to refer to this site as a 'hub'. There's a ton of content here, but I'll also link to other places with stuff worth checking out.

Hope that clears it up, but let me know if you have more questions.

Eventhubs is the Apple of SF websites - Fun to use

SRK is the Microsoft - used to be the no.1 but now falling behind because of sheer complacency

Posted by Taxattack123 on August 26, 2010 at 12:18 a.m. #10

I would like a Xmen vs street fighter, mostly because I think the Juggernaut and Cyclops have a better chance in appearing there than I think they do in Marvel VS Capcom 3.

I'm for some redesign to EH but anyway anyone else notice there's no asking for SF1 remake?

Christian Svensson: "Because people use these sticks for more than just Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom."

"I recommend Castle Crashers with speed maxed and full turbo on your bow. :)"

Funniest thing I've ever heard this man say.

I've played for top down shooters I've played some RPGS with sticks

#12: What would be the point in remaking a game that no one has any interest in playing and is famously bad compared to its sequels?

Posted by Creeper on August 26, 2010 at 2:33 a.m. #15

"Christian Svensson: Because people use these sticks for more than just Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom."
I heard of people using their fight sticks to play Castlevania: Harmony of Despair because Jonathan Morris uses fighting game inputs for his martial arts moves. Though, you forfeit the ability to move/zoom the camera (moving and pressing the right thumbstick) so you have to set a default and deal with it. They're easy enough to do on a thumbstick/D-pad anyway, but still interesting.

What about Vampire Savior 3? :(

Posted by RA_MO on August 26, 2010 at 2:56 a.m. #17

*hugs ps3* I hope to get my baby fixed so I can get back to playing again. But all of those games that people want.. I like them all but am in no rush to have them remade. I mean if and when they come, they come. If they do not... its not like they promised you anything so no point in crying. Whether the game is remixed with better graphics or not should not matter. The fact that they take the time out of new projects to even listen to what you all have to say and bring a game out... Even if it had 8-bit graphics.. be glad they take the time to at least try and please you. Heck I am sure if they really wanted to... they could just never make another vs or remake ever again...

So with that said and done..
CAKE....
EAT IT...
NOW!!!....
Please? :)

I think it's safe to say that there won't be a HD version of most of the older fighting games from Capcom because it takes a really long time to make HD sprites with smooth such as SF3. I've read that for King of Fighters 12 it took like 8-9 months to do all the animations for just 1 character so that puts things into perspective.

Posted by mag44 on August 26, 2010 at 4:39 a.m. #20

I would KILL for and online edition of MvC1. That game's a HELL of a lot balanced than its sequel >_>...

Posted by ArykheartX on August 26, 2010 at 4:47 a.m. #21

Rival schools anyone? no ....ok.... darkstalkers for the Arcade not an HD remix just a simple port with simple online like HDR's net code would be fine just to get it through inafune's thick fat head that we need a new Darkstalkers

Posted by Utsusemi on August 26, 2010 at 4:48 a.m. #22

Why is it that if your a fan of something, people have to attach "Fanboy" at the end of it, silence with that.. Anyways.
If CvS2 did make it on XBLA it has my money.

Posted by SethGravijah on August 26, 2010 at 4:59 a.m. #23

Hell !! do something with CvS2.

... and then money shall rain

Posted by othawize on August 26, 2010 at 5:39 a.m. #24

Alpha 3 is a classic, and was from the very beggining. The alpha series was so unique and fun to play. That was actually one of the last arcade games i remember seeing mainstream in NYC.
They packed so many characters into that one and introduced so many cool features (advanced juggling, 3 different supers) an online edition of Alpha 3 would be amazing.

I like how the questions are rephrased to make the questioners sounds like jerks... hahaha

Posted by SquallSaga on August 26, 2010 at 6:38 a.m. #26

Rah.... Seeing CvS mentioned made me wishing again to se the adaptation of this game ! Anyway, let's hope KoF 13 will be a hit, so we may have a CvS 3 ;- )

Posted by FroggyMan77 on August 26, 2010 at 6:58 a.m. #27

I very much doubt CvS2 will do so well if it's released. Other than fighting game enthusiasts, who really KNOWS who SNK is, and out of those, who LIKES SNK? KoF 12 didn't do so hot, remember? So that will leave a bad taste in people's mouths. The lack of knowledge issue is probably the same reason TvC didn't sell as much as it could, so unfortunate because it was such a great game.

I never played Darkstalkers when it was out, and I don't really know where I can find those games today, so I'm interested in seeing exactly how the game plays and why people love it so much.

Posted by RandomPlayer on August 26, 2010 at 7:16 a.m. #28

Lol Seriously whats wrong if SRK gets news from Eventhubs. In my opinion, the news will reach more people in the community if it is posted in more sites. Sites like Eventhubs are more geared towards Capcom fighting gamers.

I personally don't mind if SRK takes news from other sites like Tekken Zaibatsu, SDTEKKEN, Dustloop, Melty Bread, Eventhubs, IPlayWinner etc. All these sites are geared towards different crowds in the community. Posting news in SRK will allow the community in general to know more about whats happening for other fighting games. SRK is a site for the fighting gamers in general so its audience is broader.

I do agree that it wouldn't hurt SRK to credit whichever site they get the news tips from. But people here have got to understand that its possible SRK simply got the news articles from the same source and it was just Eventhubs who discovered and posted it first.

WTF WHY NOT XBOX ??????

Posted by Cinderkin on August 26, 2010 at 8:17 a.m. #30

@16

Because SF1 is what started it all. Sure it had bad controls, and was extremely difficult, but with a remake they can fix those problems. Update the sprites, make the moves easy to do, and it would be a lot of fun. There are some really cool characters in SF1 that have never returned to the series. I for one would like a SF1 HD on the PSN and XBLA.

I think others would agree with me.

Posted by MALDA on August 26, 2010 at 8:47 a.m. #31

Oh hell yeah CAPCOM is you remake all of them you got my money hell yeah I buy all of them please make it

Posted by AxlRed37 on August 26, 2010 at 8:53 a.m. #32

@33 random player

well acknowledgement is appreciated.

SRK is sort of a center for all fighting games, and thats a great thing. But keep in mind the effort it takes to stay up to date and just general maintenance of a site. wouldn't you want some sort of recognition?

i have to agree with you 95%. i believe in giving credit where credit is due, but there is a very high chance that they're getting their info from the same article elsewhere.

... or they're taking it and not crediting. lol if that were the case, a simple link to the site would suffice. but people on SRK seem to have a sort of superiority problem. they aren't ALL bad, but a lot of people on the site seem to hate eventhubs. i don't get it lol

Posted by Jarv on August 26, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. #33

Who gives a sh!t where the news comes from. Before it got on Eventhubs it was probably somewhere else too.

Most of these games are available on Supercade/GGPO and should be played there. Many of the fans clamoring for an HDR of CVS2 probably don't even know how to play CVS2.

Posted by courte on August 26, 2010 at 9:16 a.m. #34

psh hd remix
SEQUEL EVERYTHING!

Cinderkin

that is a good idea

Posted by Hadododouken on August 26, 2010 at 10:39 a.m. #36

@35 You're an idiot. Anything that Capcom puts out on PSN is most likely going to be available on XBL.

Also, I'd be pretty thrilled about Alpha 3, CvS2, or 3rdStrike. Considering SNK also puts out things to XBL/PSN, I don't think that multiple party involvement would be too much of an issue. Not that I'm pushing for them to just rush these things and "GIVE IT TO US NOW" or something.

Posted by Sektah84 on August 26, 2010 at 10:42 a.m. #37

Cvs2 please!!!!! I passed on buying a copy again the other day cause I'd rather wait for an online version that'll drop eventually

Posted by Hadododouken on August 26, 2010 at 10:43 a.m. #38

@38 You're also an idiot. I don't see how "not knowing how to play a game" means that someone shouldn't want to play it or learn how to play it.

Wat happened to Power Stone Remake?

Posted by Ex_Ein on August 26, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. #41

@Sairus
the point is no one has played the origins of how Sagat got the scar

the only reason the controls were bad was because they didn't have the technology they had developed for SF2 but that should be easy to do now

@Clovr
it'd most likely have all 12 characters would be playable
and would be easy to program at least 6 of them that aren't Ryu and Ken(Mike, Gen, Birdie,Eagle,Adon,Sagat) since they have been made before I'd highly suggest to make new move sets for the other 4(Lee,Joe,Geki,Retsu).

Posted by Kakkarot045 on August 26, 2010 at 11:57 a.m. #43

Alpha 3 is nice, the game was unique with 3 modes and 3 levels of sc bt the game pace was very fast which i think will be harder to adapt as compared to ssf4..!

Posted by Loghorn on August 26, 2010 at 12:06 p.m. #44

IMO, if they're going to happen, they should be the Arcade versions of SF3: 3rd Strike, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, & Marvel Vs. Capcom 1, & Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix (aka Pocket Fighter).

Street Fighter Alpha 3/Zero 3 should be the Dreamcast version, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 & SVC Chaos: SNK Vs. Capcom should be the XBox version. None of those awful PS1 versions, please.

Posted by AnsatsukenChamp on August 26, 2010 at 12:19 p.m. #45

If they do make hd remixes of each game (particularly sf3 3rd strike, cvs2, and sfa3) they BETTER update the sprites, but base them off the original sprites (cept morrigan's, better make it actually look like it can fit in with the other characters and the backgrounds of stages)

Posted by AnsatsukenChamp on August 26, 2010 at 12:24 p.m. #46

@35
Dude i dont think any of the regular or the die hard sf fans are even considerng sf1hd, so i dont know who else would back up ur argument, this statement coming from a die hard sf fan as well

Street Fighter 3, we've announced that "online edition" was happening and you'll have to wait and see what else happens with that title.

hmmm what else happens to that title, i dont know...maybe a SEQUAL. YEAAAAA WHOOOOOOOOOO. *coughs* ok i wont get my hopes up just yet.

Posted by ArykheartX on August 26, 2010 at 12:58 p.m. #48

@33 but these sites get money from hits you moron thats why they would be hurt if SRK doesnt link to thier site if EH got the news first but SRK takes credit for it all saying they got the info first when really EH did.

for the record sfa3>3rd strike anyday!

Posted by his1nightmare on August 26, 2010 at 2:01 p.m. #50

stop beating around the bush and give us 3rd Strike in FHD for PC, period

Posted by Jerry on August 26, 2010 at 2:23 p.m. #51

Are you guys serious about not wanting a Street Fighter 1 remake? Don't you think it's kinda ironic the game that started it all is the most ignored? Sure, the first one might have been terrible and difficult, but that's why we have a remake, to change that.
I made a thread aboutt his a while ago at Unity, and plenty of people have agreed with me that it would be an awesome idea.
Think of it like this: give it the HD Remix treatment. Give it HD graphics like HDR. Make Ryu and Ken different like SF2 and beyond. Just give it a complete and total overhaul. You can't tell me that wouldn't be awesome.

They should include Eagle & Maki for SF Alpha 3 HD

Posted by RandomPlayer on August 26, 2010 at 7:19 p.m. #56

@53 ArykheartX

Lol SRK never said they got the info first. They just post news articles to reach the community they don't say whether they got the info first or not. Yea if these sites gets money from hits that's why I said it's better if SRK credit these sites IF they get the news from these sites.

But yea if SRK DID NOT get the news tip from Eventhubs then they should have no obligation to credit Eventhubs. Doesn't matter if Eventhubs got the news from the original source first. If SRK got the news from the original source too and not from Eventhubs then they should credit the original source and not Eventhubs lol.

I'm all for a Pocket Fighter remake, that game made make it literally impossible to get mad if you lost. :3

I'm REALLY suprised there is NO recommendation for ANY Darkstalkers game! Darkstalkers is a great series, it deserves some revisited love, too, damn it!!!! It's not all about Street Fighter!

Posted by UltimateDeeJay on August 26, 2010 at 8:09 p.m. #58

I would like to see a Street Figther 1 Remix with Retsu, Geki, Balrog(Mike), Joe, Birdie, Eagle, Gen, Lee, Adon & Sagat playable, also the voice work should be redone by having all characters with their own voice.

Posted by PikminExpert on August 29, 2010 at 3:53 p.m. #59

I'd love to see a Street Fighter Alpha 3 remake.
