• Capcom was originally hoping for an October release date, but back then they had only planned on adding two extra fighters.
• They pushed the release date to December so they could add more characters in to the game.
This backs up Arcade UFO's statement that the arcade version would be released in December as well.
Also, on an unrelated note, Megadautilus and Brenttiscool pointed out a new shot of Street Fighter X Tekken that popped up on Yoshinori Ono's Twitter, although it's extremely out of focus.

If it's true, hmm.. I'd want Karin and Charlie. Not sure what other I'd really care about. Maaybe Rolento and the Cammy clones from SAF3. Don't need evil Ryu, got Akuma and a million other fireBall/dragonPunch/spinKick equivalent characters already. Capcom should think of one or two new special moves for existing dragon punch characters to make them different.

Yeah, I agree Elena, Rolento, and R. Mika are givens. Alex is getting a lot of requests as well. I personally want Remy, he's a better and more interesting fighter and character than Guile and Charlie. Urien would be a nice lil preview if they decide to make Gill the boss in 5. I mean Seth has a few moves from Urien and Gill anyways, and it can fit in plot wise.
Or maybe they'll save Alex for 5, since he was the main character in 3S. So I'd add Sean if that's the case.

Agree with Lue, SSF4 has ruined Ibuki, Makoto, and Dudley (in my opinion...) As much as I'd love to see Hugo appear again, I have a feeling that they'll give him a horrible voice actor or something. They should focus on Alpha and other Final Fight characters instead. There's little to no chance that she'd make it in, but I'd like Maki from FF2 AND SFA3 (PSP version) to appear again =)
Charlie is dead, we don't need a Guile clone. Just buy his alt #1.
The only safe picks to me are Elena, who barely got cut in that poll (and there's the Africa stage), and Hugo (we got him in the skyscraper stage, and it was mentioned he would be one of the considered characters).
It's high likely Alex and Rolento will be in too, since it was heavily rumored.

I was OK with getting 2 more, but this is a surprise. Hopefully, we'll get some answers at TGS in Sept.
As for the screenshot, it's definitely Chun-Li on the left. But it also looks like it's Zangief on the right (check around the top center of the screenshot, the beard is very much like Gief's!)

I don`t know about hugo, because you can obiously see him as a construction site worker on one of the stages in the background. But the demand for hugo is very high so my guess is that they will swap hugo in the stage background with another char. As for Poison, i would so love for him to be in and playable this time around.
If there's going to be 6 new characters, I assume the rest of the cast will get some balancing, which I'm excited about. SSF4 is SO CLOSE to being perfect, keep up the good work capcom, bring us more characters and fix a few of the bugs still in SSF4 and you'll be immortal!
More characters = less balance. I don't agree with all these changes.
Remember SF3 3rd Strike? It's the characters introduced to 3rd strike that are either god tier or trash tier (Chun Li, Makoto god tier, Q and Twelve trash tier).
I predict one of these new characters will mess up the game as badly as Sagat in SF4 did.
Patching minor unbalancing should be easy after the comunity has played enough and pointed out the problems between match ups and playability. They can easily patched though downloadable updates. Have in mind that the ssf4 series will probably come to an end after this, besides modes and costumes. So my guess is that they will invest money in gatting it balanced one its out of the door.
Just give me Q and I will happily start playing Super again.

Q, Elena, Alex, Hugo or is it for SF3.3 Online but it seems to be a good transition if they put more characters of SF3.3 in SSF4.
In my opinion the bundle is: Rolento, Rainbow Mika, Q, Hugo, Alex and Elena. The animation of Elena is so beautiful that it will be a real present for us to see her in SSF4.
But it's ok for the arcade but when for the DLC?
i would have to disagree with many of you that want these characters to be dlc. what would be the point of even making this version if its meant for us to play it in the arcades and try them out.
Here's my vote:

5. Necro (an alternate for the Dhalsim players)

I also think if they are going to add the new characters in the arcade and DLC, they should add a new Ultra for everyone. Preferably, an Ultra similar to the X-ism in Alpha. Kinda like Juri's Feng Shui Engine but faster.

With DLC they can update the console version so that their will not be any differences between console/arcade versions.
There are some people that only play on consoles and some that only play on arcades. Players in the USA usually play on consoles since there are only few arcades in the USA compared to Japan. On the other hand, Japan's fighting game community is centered in the arcades. All the top players always play in the arcades and rarely touch the console versions.
Back with vanilla Street Fighter IV, whenever the Japanese go to foreign tournaments they already had a disadvantage because tournaments in USA and Europe use the console version with the console exclusive characters. The Japanese didn't have experience playing against these characters and so they had a disadvantage. Daigo still won USA tournaments because his Ryu was overall very solid and he was able to adapt to the console characters (He did lose to Sanford's Cammy twice though).
To avoid any problems like this, its better to let all the versions be the same. That way, no one can make excuses that they didn't have experience against some characters. All versions should be pretty much identical.
In the case of SSFIV only a few of the Japanese top players are playing SSFIV console version seriously. Many of the top players are still playing the arcade vanilla version and hardly touched SSFIV.
The arcade version is meant to be another update to SSFIV. They are adding new characters and balance changes after all. If they don't update the console version too then the console and arcade version will essentially be different games. Once SSFIV arcade version comes out the Japanese top players will start playing only that version.
Also I doubt many USA/European players will be able to get their hands on the arcade version. Arcades are few in those places. Even if they wanted to try out the arcade version with the new characters it may be hard to find an arcade that will actually have the SSFIV arcade cabinets.
They need to make it so that both arcade/console players could play each other on equal footing and this could be done through DLC for the console version.

I would suggest the EX characters, but its a lost cause. I think that EX+Alpha is a very underrated game. Hopefully, Namco's Tekken x Street Fighter can incorporate some of that gameplay. I think it would definitely appeal more to the Street Fighters out there.

I bet the pricing on this will piss me off. $8 for BlazBlue characters is pretty high. If it is 6 more fighters I'd say Rolento, Karin, R. Mika, Hugo, Elena and Alex even though I'd rather nix Mika and Hugo for Eagle & Birdie.
Speaking of Street Fighter x Tekken, they really screwed the pooch on this one. Actually they screwed MvC3, cuz' now everyone seems to want this more than MvC3. Or at least I am more hyped about this than that other button mashing one. And its like 2 years away!

I would rather have them release what they have now (what was originally planned to be released in Oct) and released the additional stuff later in Dec. It'll keep SF fans busy with the first release while they're waiting for the Dec release.
Also I'm surprised so many people care about what characters are in it since 98% of suckers only play Ryu, Ken, Akuma with the occassional Blanka, Sagat or Rog online. Like MvC2, only 6 characters are played.
Don't get me started on those crybaby 3S fans who complained about everything (including Makoto's feet or Dudley's voice). The 3S fighters on Super are pretty good (minus Makoto) but have to readjust your strategy to play them well.
I play Guy and at least I can admit he's not as good as he was in SFA but then he'd be broken in SSF4 (3 Bushin Chains in the corner into Super in SSF4 would make some of the Eventscrubs flood the world with your virgin tears).

Boy oh boy it's new characters rumor time, i love it!
If they shifted the release date to only 2 months later due to the characters it means the extra 4 characters where already pretty much finished yet they probably initially intended on releasing the slowly during the next year on consoles so that they could keep the interest in the game well alive and also convince people who did not yet purchase the game to go buy it (as with the iPhone version). Capcom is most probably releasing the characters for free and plan on making money from future secondary DLC such as further costume packs etc which i think is great and good for them - for those who bitch about paying for costumes my advice is to check the DLC available for the first BlazBlue game where you are expected to pay for extra colors! Costumes are merely luxuries that most of us can live without, even though i did just buy the new costumes cause 1) i love most of them and 2) i wanted to help out Capcom make more money so that they can further support the fight scene.
Anyway back in topic, if there are 6 new fighters i sincerely hope there will be at least 2 brand new additions although i doubt it. So my predictions are:
From Alpha: Rolento, R.Mika
From SF III: Elena, Hugo
The other 2 spots can either go to Alex and Karin which where popular requests although i don't really know what to think at this point.
I would like to see some all-new characters or at least some who made past appearances but can feel much fresher in SF IV such as Poison (never a playable character with own play list before) or even someone from SF 1. Honestly though, i only vote for Poison from the 2 options cause 1) lots of requests, 2) she will pretty much be a brand new character with a familiar and popular face and back story and 3) if Hugo is in it it would be great!
6 new does make sense if they have the same select screen, just adding 3 new on the left and the right.
Anyways Elana, Rolento and Mika are pretty well assured from what Ono said in the past about who he wanted to get in the game.

Everyone keeps saying they want Charlie. I honestly can't see it happening. I realize they've sorta thrown canon to the side when they added the 3S characters, but Charlie seems a little far. I'd say the fact that he's essentially Guile would keep him from being added, but it would seem that Capcom couldn't give a s--t about having clone characters in SF4.
Rolento, R. Mika, Elena, and Hugo are probably in. As for the other two characters, I'd like to see some characters return from the first Street Fighter. Maybe Eagle and Birdie.

What I'd love to see added is the ability to change your button configuration in the lobby or during spectator mode. That would make me extremely happy, new characters would just be icing on the cake...even though, Garuda and Pullum from EX would be nice.

Yes Guile and Charlie play alike and may seem like clones. But you clearly dismissed the principle that exists with the Shotokan characters, most obviously Ryu and Ken. How come you didn’t open your mouth when SF4 first came around to protest the similarities between the shotos?
For anyone saying that Charlie is a clone to Guile is a dumb ignorant scrub. Of course their move set is identical but it could be rebalanced the same way as Ryu and Ken are.
In fact. Every move Guile and Charlie share could be rebalanced so that one can tell the difference
just like you can tell the difference between Ryu and Kens Backward Spin Kicks. Ryu's is more powerful but slower, where as Ken's is faster, with more hits but lesser damage than Ryu. Ryu's Ex fireball is yellow fire (more damage) than Ken's Ex hadouken. Ken's Ex Shoryu takes immense damage compared to Ryu's Ex shoryu. We have all known that Ryu specializes in hadoukens and Ken does the same in Shoryukens.
Why can’t this be the case with Charlie and Guile? And why cant he also be integrated into the story just the same way Gouken was? everyone thought he was dead, but PLOWW here he is! but ohh no. we cat do that with Charlie cuz 1) the poor waves of scrubs are already tired of losing to Guile, and 2) exhausted of all the bit(hing and whining.

side note for anyone who cares sinse this is a character debate.. with this new budding friendship with namco. i was wondering if anyone knows or could post a link to info regarding the licences to the ex characters. i remember reading somewhere a while ago that a couple of the ex character were in a fighting game called fighting layer that was put out by namco. allen and i think blair were two of them. i was thinking maybe namco still had the inside track on those and maybe others like hokuto or skullo..

That’s what im saying about Charlie. add him but make his normals and specials distinguishable from Guile so we would feel the difference between them just the same way we feel the difference when playing Ryu and Ken. add a cool super and 2 freakish ultras and there you have Charlie.
also make his standard costume also distinguishable from Guiles Alt1 so that he doesn’t feel like you have guiles Alt1 on. Sort of like how Link from OoT was way different from TP. add a few accessories like a watch. rips and loops to his jacket. in fact Charlie don’t even wear military boots, he wars some green smaller shoes. and there is a clearly visible distance showing some skin between his feet and his pants. his head area is definitely taken care of. anime style face, hair, glasses and way different than guile.
@shoryuKIDDER The only Ex characters to appear in Fighting Layer are Allen Snider and Blair Dame. Arika developed the game and Namco only assisted in distributing the arcade version it's very unlickly the Namco has much or any legal rights over the characters.

Really, why you want to have Charlie as DLC? He is one of my favorite charactes (right after Guile in fact) but he can't offer anything to the gameplay right now. More like you need to step your Guy game up. All he needs is frame advantage/adjustments to his f. MP overhead and a quicker cr. LK and maybe better recovery from his cr. HP because even though its a one-frame link, its still hard to connect that s. MP.

Q = possible but skeptics believe Bison and Q are the same

Also I wouldnt mind either Hayato Nekketsu or Hinata from rival schools. Skull-o-mania was the most demanded from EX.
Its only worth putting Karin in the game if she is wearing a bikini.
As others have mentioned above, give us 6 brand new characters, however follow these rules:
Rule#1: No new shotos.
Rule#2: No old shotos in evil, violent, or any other form...(exception: costumes allowed, but no mechanic changes) .
Rule#3: No character that is a pupil/student of a shoto.
Rule#4: No new characters with dragon-punches/shoryukens, fireballs/hadokens, or hurricane-kicks/tatsumaki-senpukyakus.
Also, please make an alternative costume pack or an alternative#10 costume to satisfy everyone who wants Evil-Eyes Ryu, Violent-Executive Ken, Grown-and-Goth Sakura, Angel-Wings Akuma, and Youthful "Sheng Long" Gouken.
Charlie is vastly superior to Guile anyway(style wise).
-He throws Sonic Booms with one hand.
-He can also shoot projectiles from his elbows,knees and feet(during his super)
-His 'Too Easy' taunt is way cooler than Guile's.
-His flashkicks are actually front flips that go backward because(watch them in slow motion in the Alpha games, he actually turns his back to his opponent, crouches down and kicks his feet up sort of like Cannon Spike)

For Evil Ryu, don't make it a seperate character, make it a selectable. Like for instance if you want Ryu, you can choose which mode you want, Normal Ryu or Evil Ryu.
The excitement regarding the new characters is intense but for me, I would choose three characters from Alpha and three from SF3.

Any variation of a character that includes them being "Evil" is not going to happen..
Also, If Capcom were to add Yun and not Yang, then that's just stupid because the brothers depth within Street Fighter storyline is shared considering that they are brothers..
I believe, that Charlie would be a great addition to SSF4, see as there is no other variation to Guile (Dee Jay is waste, especially that down+up kick of his) not even on Guile's level.. as I was saying, no other variation of Guile and other old and new characters have connection to the 'supposedly dead charlie'.. people remember Gouken came back when he was just knocked out, after he was thought to be dead..

anyways, blair is from Street Fighter EX, created by Arika, so Capcom doesn't have rights to include her in SSF4.
Retsu, seems unlikely, drawing from the fact that Makoto is a sort of improved Retsu in the sense, that they share a similar style.. Retsu is basically a scrapped character discarded and broken down to Makoto for style and Oro for appearance.
Geki, another broken down character that shares traits from Ibuki and Vega.. A scrapped character that didn't draw in any popularity..
Sodom, quite possible as well as, Rolento and Birdie..

Well it would be like cool to see ROLENTO, he would have a really cool style for the game, another would be ELENA, it would be a wish come true to see old faces from the original Street Fighter, like EAGLE, RETSU or GEKI(claw). For my Favorite choices:
1) Rolento: is a favorite for many people and have a really high badass factor to help him out.
2) Elena: Capoeira + white haired black chick(almost perfect body)+ a lot of skin for the eyes = a win for the guys
3) Retsu/Eagle/Geki: urging to come back to tourney!!!
4) Karin: her style is pretty cool and would look sweet in SSF4
5) Urien: hey a muscular 300 dude with a thong... well hey... dont hate!!! but he would be a nice add to the cast

Evil Ryu is pointless. He just an overbalanced Shoto that would ad NO longevity to the game due to him being almost identical to normal Ryu.
Shadow Charlie? Really? Same as above.

It seems like a no brainer to have Alex and Elana from SF3. They both fight pretty different. But, Abel is dresses like Alex already...so Sean might be one. They can make charlie as different to Guile as Ken is to Ryu. Rolento is different and not scrubby either. Then two new characters.
For the two slots, I'm saying Elena (Rivals : Deejay and Juri) and Rolento (Rivals: Cody and Guy). Elena was 4th under Makoto and the producer for SF4 and SSF4 said she would be in if they considered DLC. Rolento was recommended by Ono as well as having a fan base.
The remaining? I'm guessing:
R.Mika- Ono likes her and she may get an opportunity to shine with El Fuerte and Zangief.
Yun/Yang- Based off a recent response on a blog here, it could mean they're in and a great much up against Chun LI, Fei Long, and Gen.
Alex- Rumors on the net believe he will be in, however, no theories to show or prove he can. His rivals could be Abel, Zangief, and/or Hugo.
Karin- She has a possible chance, however, I'm not guaranteeing she'll be in. Makes a great rival for Sakura and Makoto.
Hugo- possibility since Ono considered him and he's BGC in the game. His rivals could be Zangief, Abel, and/or Alex

first off, just because they share the same move set, does not mean they'll play exactly the same. so people need to stop it with all this "play guile in his alt, and you have charlie" BS! you still have guile, just in a charlie costume! all the shotos basically have the same move set - but try to play ryu the same way you would ken! you'd get your ass handed to you. do you guys even consider the priority of the character's attacks? some have more or less than others; not to mention their normal attacks - which play a major role in how a character is used. it's not just the special moves that make the character!
2nd, anyone who's familiar with sfa3 or mvc2 (the only 2 games i can think of where guile & charlie were both present), knows that they were very different from each other, despite both having the ability to throw sonic booms and flash kicks. especially in sfa3, where charlie seemed to be better off rushing, whereas guile stuck to his defensive roots.
i'd love to see charlie return! if ryu can have 5 clones, and there's 5 grapplers in the game already, why can't guile have an identical character? and speaking of grapplers, i find it funny that most of the people who nag at the idea of charlie returning, want to see r.mika (another grappler to which the game already has enough), and haggar (who'd be a gief clone).
i would love to see those 2 in the game as well, because i'm open minded, and i know capcom could make the characters unique, even if they share moves with another. my point is, if you guys are worried so much about clones, haggar should be the last character on your wish list! that said, STFU and let people hope for charlie!
aside from chuck nash, i'd much rather have the rest of the alpha cast return. take out the sf3 & sf4 exclusive characters, and the game is pretty much sfa3, minus...

The thing is I do like Karin. She's not a horrible character and she could have a lot to add to the story.
And Yun and Yang that was a pretty dumb idea. They are pretty much the same character.
Another I have to shake my head at is Urien. I just don't like him. To me he's awkward and doesn't really showcase his power.
