In an interview with Destructoid, Capcom's Seth Killian stated that:
For better or for worse, (Capcom of) Japan has understood that 'the West' likes Frank. So maybe that's why he's called Frank West? I don't know... Rightly or wrongly (Capcom of) Japan is convinced that Joe Six pack here in America love God d*mn Frank West. He will be making appearances in as many games as they can get him into.
Considering one of the outlines for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 looked a lot like Frank West, and this statement from Killian, it seems very, very, very likely that Frank will be in latest Vs. game.
I hope to god they put Albert Wesker in MVC3....
Frank West in Marvel Vs Capcom 3?
Awesome! Frank West is one of my favorite video game protagonists of all time.
no... capcom needs to make games with their own esthetics... stop making games for the west with bland character designs.. that just looks like normal people
I am totally okay with this, Frank is the man. I just wish he was actually going to be in the new Dead Rising.
They were serious about this haha, he even had an easter egg quote in left 4 dead 2's new DLC. http://kotaku.com/5522201/dead-rising...
How about OTHER great Capcom figures that people liked?
How about Sieg from Chaos Legion?
How about MOAR Dante? (He should have been in EVERY VS's game)
Capcom HAS a POOL of people to draw from, past AND present, that a good percentage of players can recognize.
Capcom, DON'T BE STUPID OFF ONE APPEARANCE IN A VS GAME, ACTUALLY LISTEN TO FANS!
@Wishpig
Rufus is awesome. I also applaud the now defunct Midway for Bo' Rai Cho and Namco for Bob. So many games run away from characters with imperfect bodies and it's nice to see variety.
I'm not a fan of Frank West though. I'm with Seth Killian on this one - it's kinda weird.
I don't get WHY Frank West? Pretty much every Resident Evil character is more well known then ole' Franky. I mean Dead Rising was somewhat liked, but it wasn't that popular, hell, review wise it was pretty average. He's not even staring in the sequel in his only game (not counting that crappy wii game.)
Wtf are they thinking. It feels like when they tried to hard to get everyone to like Viper. Yeah she's cool, but you could tell Capcom was trying to force feed her down our throats.
@#26/Wishpig:
It feels like that because it's the same thing. It's a common strategy for companies to latch onto a character they think (for whatever reason) is/will be hugely popular and do everything they can to get that character to live up to their imagined potential. From a marketing perspective, it's much better to have one character everyone jumps for joy at the sight of than a bunch of characters people kind of like. So much better that they'll try to force it even when the chemistry just isn't there.
@ ricefarmer
exactly they need to think for themselves. I don't want him in every game just like i don't want dante in every game think about this capcom. Also i like him in his game but he is bland in design and his he's covered wars you know quote will get boring before it gets better. He's a bland character design you know
I can deal with Frank West, but what we really need in MvC3 is Phoenix Wright. (b'--')b
@raymk
yep.. he doesn't even look like a fighting game character that fits into sf .. he was made for the lame west thats why his character design is lame like every other generic white bulky male main protagonist.
capcom needs to do what they do best and stop thinking about the west
FRANK WEST
Capcom thinks america likes frank west cause he's not some anime sterotype he's pretty much joe blow there's not enough of him in modern video games always "that guy with the mysterious past who got a 25(yes an odd number just to be different) pack of muscles and can take care of everything with the default weapons"(Chris Redfield,Dante's Inferno's Dante,Kratos) or "the anime pretty boy with the OP weapon who does over the top moves and for some reason is always cool" (Dante from DMC,Gene, Seig, Cloud)
We need more guys like Frank west, Issac Clarke and Viewtiful Joe
@ex_ein
imagine how memorable characters will be if capcom or square enix made their games based on what they think we like?
nobody would play or remember any characters or have a following.. imagine 30 boring ass typical american white looking people..
this isn't real life moron its a game
however to IMMERSE yourself in the game don't you want a character you can relate to.
cause the 3 men I list come from worlds that if you don't immerse yourself in they seem kinda dull.
Frank West, Issac Clarke and Joe all have followings, Ashley Williams(the lead character from the Evil dead movie series) has a huge cult following cause he's a pretty average guy stuck in a crazy ass situation.
Rice I could probably remember every single one of their names if they made characters like that and made good games around it. Over a million people have picked up a title featuring a character I listed. If No one wanted to play it then why would (capcom of) japan say that? maybe cause they found that people did like playing as the character?
In the name of Chuck Green(Dead Rising 2's hero) don't call me a moron and read actual figures.
and just a few other examples of everymen that alot of people like:
Bill
Louis
Francis
Zoey
Rochelle
Ellis
Nick
Coach
and just incase you don't believe they're popular go on L4D 1 and or 2 right now
Why are Zombies so cool? Why are people so stupid? That game, "dead rising" was a fuking abomination. It was bad.
"Hey, let's see if I can use this as a weapon. I can! Awesome!...........Hey, let's see if I can use this as a weapon. I can! Awesome!"
^That's what playing dead rising was like......
I just want to know...Why do people like Fag West? Is it because he's stupid? Do people like him the same way they like Dan from SF? Because he's stupid? I just wanna know.
@Clovr
For once I agree with you on something that's opinion based. yeah they should have an FADC trainning stage like they had a parry stage in SF3
Hell they could have done something VERY COOL and had the trainning stages be fighting stages also(minus the obstcales you have to break
@el_oh_v_e
I like frank west cause he's not stupid he know somethings VERY wrong before he goes in but does cause he wants the scoop, he's a very intellgent character CAUSE HE USES EVERYTHING HE POSSIBLY CAN unlike Resident Evil or Silent hill(minus shattered memories) where you see 'oh just a pile of junk' Frank would pick up a piece of pipe from that pile of junk hell he'd even used a "Wet floor" sign just to survive like a real person would unlike the games listed above where they'd ignore them and try to find ammo.
people liked it and it was the first on a new system
Frank isn't in the second one mainly cause the story wasn't based off frank who was a badass at the end of 1(if you got the true ending, he was taking on military, cultist and the occasional psychotic break a person might have) and chucks' pp system(aka minus picture taking) seems great
and you act like event hubs is the only place for fan opinion on the game, I was truly happy when I saw frank, and the people who liked dead rising are happy enough with it too, however doesn't mean they're on event hubs
Anyway if you TRULY read what i said, instead of bsing I said that it wouldn't be annouced at Captivate not that MVC3 wasn't real, if you go back I said it would be more likely announced at E3 with playable demo (which was rumored to be at Captivate by the Planet360 artcile,which was a lie, and that storm and others were officially shown already, which was a lie.)
@#25 I completely disagree, I just feel like Capcom is trying to include fans of a lot more series so that the games will appeal to larger audiences. To be honest when I heard frank was in Tatsunoko it made it an absolute purchase. Like all Capcom games Dead Rising was like a cult classic where if you loved it and got to level 50 it's a game you'll always love and never forget regardless of it's flaws because it was just so damn entertaining but if you didn't see the beauty in it then you just didn't. Also I laugh every time I hear "reeeeal Mega Buster!" and it makes it amazing.
As well he should be.
And whoever coined the phrase "Joe Six pack" needs to be buried in a field.
