Damage values for all of Super Street Fighter 4's cast has been added into the main SSF4 guide page. This information came from SFilp and ChibiTenshin, who both spent a lot of their own personal time to contribute this to the community.• The damage of each of Sagat's Tiger Shot moves was reduced. His Tiger Uppercut damage was also dropped.
• Damage on Zangief's Spinning Piledrivers and Ultra 1 was reduced.
• Dhalsim's Yoga Flame and Yoga Blast moves had their attack power increased considerably.
• Ryu's normal Fireball damage was dropped by 10. His Shoryuken (Dragon Punch) damage was also decreased.
• The damage Rufus' Ultra 1, EX-Snake Strike, EX-Messiah Kick and Medium, Hard and EX Galactic Tornado moves were all decreased.
• Almost all of the cast had a move or two that had its damage reduced.
This is just a sampling of the many changes that were made to the damage output of the characters, as there were far too many to list here. If you'd like to see how the damage for the character's moves in vanilla SF4 stack up with what they are in Super, check out their Frame Data pages and compare them with their updated character pages linked below for your convenience.
| Abel | Adon | Akuma | Balrog | Blanka | Cammy | Chun-Li | Cody | C. Viper | Dan | Dee Jay | Dhalsim | Dudley | E. Honda | El Fuerte | Fei Long | Gen | Gouken | Guile | Guy | Hakan | Ibuki | Juri | Ken | Makoto | M. Bison | Rose | Rufus | Ryu | Sagat | Sakura | Seth | T. Hawk | Vega | Zangief |
We need a list of damage from SF4 compared to damage in SSF4 for every character. This is a bit tedious. It's important to have this information as we reconsider matchups - nerfs made, and buffs made, will influence how the character will be played, and what risks one can take.
@ #9 - were you absent from class the day they said damage was nerfed across the board? gief got a damage nerf because everyone got one. he would have been too much of a tank otherwise.
Can you say, Zangnerf? Nerfgief? They DID quote they were going to leave his throws alone since they wanted him to be more of a grappler and not such a "heavy hitter".
@11 were you absent when they were actually discussing real changes? Apparently. From the dev's discussion of Gief changes "Also, in IV since the Banishing Flat (Green Glove) was fairly functional, he felt more like a heavy-hitting character than a grappler. So we've kept the power of his throws but tuned down his attacks, so this is more like the real Zangief. I feel like the Gief everyone wanted is finally here."

@ #14, you must be new to fighting games. "powerful" doesnt mean "ZOMFG DAMAGE!", it means its a good move. this was, hands down, the best version of banishing flat zangief has ever had, so they made it feel more like the banishing flat. keeping his throws powerful meant not giving them smaller hit boxes/range and keeping whatever invul they may have.
dont believe me? how is balrog's JAB referred to? as powerful. very weak damage, but ungodly good. its a very POWERFUL tool for him to have.
Gief? nooo....Nief? Gerf? Whatever you want to call him, he got smacked pretty hard in super. Also that statement is easily interpreted as them saying they arent going to weaken or take power away from his throws. "keeping the power" didnt really happen here since less damage=less power.
Who knows maybe his ultra2 adds a whole new dimension to his game - afterall you can just normal SPD where you were able to ultra1 so it was a bit redundant before.
Why the hell would damage input/output alone would dramatically change the tier list?
YEAH AND WHEN YOU ARE MAD YOU NEED TO WRITE LIKE THIS YEAHH!! -_-
this is great so... we are actually going to build alot of meter in rounds.. like how daigo kept having plenty of meter to fadc...
maybe this would mean more people doing more crazy combos
If everyone got damage nerf, does that mean that everyone got less powerful?
Power is relative and subjective.
@ Put_Elena_in_SF
You should do it. Seriously.
That's gutter trash Sim's already is really really good against the top tier characters this so bull IMO as he hard enough to get in on.
Is it me or do these links not actually take you to updated damage values etc.?
ITT: Scrubs don't know about across the board damage reduction, or the fact that the items listed aren't all the debuffs but a sample of what kind of moves went lower in damage. Learn to read; "Almost all of the cast had a move or two that had its damage reduced."
To all you complaining about tiers, stay free chumps.
Wao everyone is complaining but look at rufus he got as nerfed as sagat f@#k u Capcom making a very normal character suckkkkkk!
El Fuerte looks pretty much the same. I was hoping for something that would make him at least mid tier (last I checked he was near bottom) but it looks like he'll still have to work harder for the win. And I doubt the nerfing of everyone else will do all that much for him and his 900 stamina. :/
All reports I've seen so far say that Vega has moved from bottom of the barrel tier to high-low tier or low-mid tier at best. He was the most dramatically improved character, but if you dramatically increase trash, on some level it's still trash.
At least now we should see him in some competitive play. Some low-tier characters do pretty well in tournaments as-is (Kai's Fuerte, etc) when played well. Hopefully this rises Vega to the point where he's viable in the hands of someone who really knows him.
abel got TT nerf from 220 to 200 hp version...but ex is also 200 like in sf4 and U1 551 to 500...im not crying im not a ryu player
Rufus took some hits, stamina as well, but his ex snake strike did silly damage, way too much. The players that didnt take a stamina hit should be ok with nerfs, those that took a stamina hit and damage hits might move down on the lists. Ryu will be ok he still prob links everything into everything and did not lose stamina. He just isnt as perfect as he was.
I want to see where sagat is going to end up he is still strong - most powerful fireball and probably still huge normals. Angry scar is very interesting use of meter.
Great, sim really didnt need dmg, he needed the drills to be fixed but o well. Now sims will spam amrs even more, and with a laggy connect(anything that aint green) ur prob not gonna be able to react in time.
Well, it seems that Zangief retained his top stop in terms of stamina, even though he has to share it with T. Hawk. But his Ultra 1 is the single most powerful move in the game based on those numbers. Nobody else has an attack above 520. Unless I missed someone.
Rufus got so nerfed. His snake strike has had is properties changed, as well as damage reduced. Also, cross up divekick and divekick require a much more narrow window to allow for you to combo afterward
I played gief last night. It's true, his damage is way down, but so is everyone's. I didn't notice any issues.
Although, a couple times I did put down the controller thinking the match was over ("FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!") and was later surprised when the opponent still had a decent amount of life left! lol.
Other than that, no big deal, really. Gief is still Gief. They really did nerf all damage output, and comparibly he is still the most damaging and has the most health.
wow dhalsim will now hit very hard lol
