For those of you who want to skip the video, the basic trick is to go into Vs. mode, start a match and then exit out using the Character Change option and a new taunt or color will be unlocked each time.
Ugh, I was hoping it'd take some effort to get the colours, even if it was passive effort.
For instance making so it takes more matches to unlock every successive coulour/taunt - that way you actually have something to look forward to as opposed to one rapid sit down.
And they couldn't of had the colors and taunts unlocked from the start if you had SF4 saved because? ...-_- THIS IS SO STUPID! They made it so tedious to just get those stupid things in the last game, this is even more tedious.
This is a damn easy way to get colors thankfully. This will be the first thing I'll be doing so all my friends can have all the colors for their characters. :D
thanks to everyone who has checked out this and the other vids on my channel.
@clovr4lyf thanks for submitting my video yesterday, didn't have time to do it myself. I didn't bother submitting the super sf4 focus taunts video I made because I didn't think it was massive news and eventhubs covered my original sf4 focus taunts video a while back, i think that's why they've left it off.
@q thanks... i think?
@corn thanks :D
Except the only bad thing about doing this way is the loading screen.
That sounds like more trouble than just playing the actual matches.
@spiceychicken - yeah i need to clean the harddrive out on the xbox i used to record these videos, and it's not the xbox I'll be using to play online when the game drops in europe. therefore i've not installed the game.
Wow. People are complaining about this method to unlock colors and taunts? Ladies and Gents, this is a very simplistic way by Capcom to obtain these features and it allows for you to play/get to know other characters as well. You should all be thankful. Frankly, I wish it was harder. I know that Capcom is trying to advertise SF to the masses, but what happened to the fun of working hard and reaping a just reward?
Maybe this is the reason why many younger players complain about/refuse to play the new Mega Man games. Everyone wants instant gratification and little effort to receive it. You can even look at the effort to unlock Luigi in Super Mario Galaxy. Many people to this day complain about how "hard" it is to unlock him and blame Nintendo for their failures or in many cases, lack of trying. I can see the argument that those games fall into different genres, but the concept is still the same: today's games disdain any extra effort they deem unnecessary in a video game. No matter how quality the game is made by the company. Yes, you could argue that gamers have always felt this way and the Internet has just allowed them to broadcast such notions on an international scale.
However, it just seems to me that this is a recent phenomenom and quite problematic when a company is trying to balance giving the whole farm away in the game and actually rewarding hard work. I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this. Btw, as a reference point, I'm a 30 yr old gamer myself. So Ive been around the industry my whole life from Atari 2600 to
now. And yes, I've been plugging away quarters at the arcade since SF II and Pit Fighter were out...
sweet. i will do this to get my purple Cammy quickly. everyone else i'll just play normally
Unlocking stuff is a reward even if it's an alternate color and taunt in a game in SF4, it's content that doesn't effect the content of the core game but personalizes it to the way you like, if it were taunts like SF3 it would be a must for taunts to be unlocked since some have actual hit box and some change the status of a character.
Characters unlocking though people are lazy is a must if the character is so different it changes the way you approach things (Gouken with an anti air fireball and a command counter, Gen's 2 styles and Seth with his warp into SPDs)
That's pretty cool, but it seems like when its that easy you'd probably unlock all or most of the colors and taunts within a day anyway.
This is the way I used
Go to versus
set it to 1 round
Pick your characters
Set cpu handicap to 0%
is it me, or was Vanilla SF4's way easier?
This is just for ONE character, not for all of them, right?
At least you could quickly do the challenges in SF4 with your best character (Or Zangief, lol) and just use rape tactics to do it until you reach the minimum, then lose, get the color/taunt.
This seems VERY tedious, even if you want to do it quickly.
This is lame BS, why do gamers these days cry and wine about things needing to be so easy?! The colors and taunts should be earned, not handed to us, ESPECIALLY 8-10. I took pride in earning everything in vanilla 4, I like being one of the few people with color and taunt 10.
Nice use of CREAM for the music in this vid. Long live Wu. And quit bitchin about this, if you wanna unlock them the normal way then do it, if not do this. Not like having colors easier gimps or helps you in any way in a match.
@TonyAlmighty: Everyone had color and taunt 10. Once people figured out they could fly through it using Zangief, everyone had them. Face it someone will find a "i suck at video games" method of doing everything. While the rest of us like to do it the man way.
@32, relax.
I consider myself a hardcore gamer who likes challenge, but this is f**king COLOURS and TAUNTS! Do I really wanna play through survival and have CPU's do wake up random ultras over and over?
This way is the best because it rewards you for using a character you like to play as(or not). At least you know after you play matches online or off you'll be getting something instead of playing survival and time trial like a loner
At least we can unlock the colors and taunts easily than unlocking them in challenge mode.
Screw that. I am not doing that like what nearly 20 times a character? So 700 times for in and out quitting?
I might do it for a few select characters and just unlock the rest through normal play. I use random alot against my friends so eventually i will get them all.
Wait, I have a question. So, basically I unlock the color of the character/s that I pick in versus mode? So I actually have to do this thing to every character in order to unlock each extra color they have? If so then damn that's a lot of tries. How many colors does each characters have anyways?
anyone keep track on how many times this has to be done to get all taunts and colors for one character???
@21 Rudy horse you are spot on, but this is one of those things that changes with ages. I'm 21, but I have plenty of memories about games where I really put in some effort and became a better player overall and was rewarded at the same time. It is a great feeling when you do something you know not even half of the buyers will pull off because you really wanted to make the most of it. Games like that still exist, but you just have to look a little harder.
It really ends up being more of a subjective thing in the long run.
Great feedback from all of you. It is much appreciated. It's seems that there is a definite division in the community regarding this issue. I can see merit to the point of view that these aspects are miniscule to the game and therefore should warrant such little action by the player. I can also understand the view point that if Capcom considers methods such as these necessary to appease their fan base, then why have them locked at all?
I think ClovrLy4f said it best that such a method of unlocking speaks volumes to the type of gamer Capcom believes will be purchasing/playing this game. So then the next logical conclusion is to decide if SF is for the serious fighter anymore or has it gone more to the realm of a general consumer product for the masses to play. Or could it really be the in depth type of game that offers a satisfactory experience to both the serious fighter and "weekend warrior" as well? I hope the final option is the right assesment. I guess we won't find out until it's been out for quite a while.
Again, I appreciate all of your thoughts. If you ever want match, I'm Rudyhorse on the Xbox360.
I'm wondering if this can be done with 2 people using the same character:
Player 1 uses Balrog and
Player 2 also picks Balrog.
Would you get both the color and the taunt in one shot, or does that only work on the 1P side.
I'm glad there's a simple way to unlock stuff, but this might be tedious, and it's just a color and a taunt. I'll just get them playing the game. They're just aesthetic.
Unlocking characters never gave me satisfaction, it gave me relief that I'd never have to go through the stupidly tedious process again to enjoy the game to the fullest (I've spent too much time unlocking characters, and even money to unlock them for my college's game room), so all the characters being fully unlocked and the colors and taunts being locked is just fine with me.
Btw guys, you don't have to complete all the trials of a character to get the icon, finish a couple of trials you will get an icon.
For the cube icon we all like, you need to finish a couple of trials somewhere between 19-22 (I think), as for the flag icon you need to finish the last ones.
so u just have to play each character around 18 times? that wont take too long because you'll just get them all eventually by just playing the game. For the characters that you dont play as, you can do the method. i think this is better than doing all those survivals/time attacks imo.
if you just play the game youll unlock everything eventually anyway. Unless you have a signature color for your main character I wouldnt bother doing this.
awesome....was waitnig for this ^^
