FairlySadPanda attended one of the pre-release events for SSF4 in the United Kingdom and he found out what the bonus is for having Street Fighter 4 and getting Super Street Fighter 4, which is very close to what was reported earlier.
If you have a Street Fighter 4 save file on your system it unlocks two extra character colors.
• Color 11: This is the ink shader from the PC version of Street Fighter 4.
• Color 12: This is a very neat looking shader that turns the character into a cross-hatch version of themselves - it leaves them looking like they've been drawn onto the screen.
• You unlock taunts and colors very easily in SSF4 - it doesn't take that long playing with any character to unlock the first few...
To see a video of Color 12 in action with Fei Long, check out this page, and make sure you crank up the video to 720p resolution and go with a big or full screen window so you can make out the details.
Dislike the two colors.
wished for something more out there.
Well, I guess it's a pretty reasonable bonus considering that SFIV is on the way out and is making way for SSFIV so anything other than bonus character colors is pretty much not a viable option at this point. But Super better have some damn cool DLC in the future for us die hard fans!
Umm... that's it? Just two new colors...? Why not, at the very least, have all the colors and taunts for the old characters unlocked from the start, or even the titles and icons used for online play? The shader colors are cool and all, but they're not a reason to keep the disc or saved data to me. Heck, why not a special code to get the extra costumes for the new characters for free? Just saying.
Everyone wants a damn magnificent prize for keeping the street fighter IV disc, I don't care what I get because Super Street Fighter IV sold at 39.99 is reason enough for me to get it, keeping on to your old disc or selling it really wouldn't matter, I doubt you'd get much for Street Fighter IV Now! Can't wait to use Juri!! And Kikoushou!!
Agreed with #6. They should of let us keep titles and icons from the previous version. Even finished trails too for the characters we already finished them with. Heck a bonus stage unlocked or secret character would be better than this .. but in the end.. I guess its better than nothing ?
So this is the bonus for having a save file? Is there even a bonus for having the actual physical disk? I thought Ono said we would actually be getting a bonus for keeping the disk as well?
You guys are so greedy. This is supposed to be a "thank you" for buying SF4 and all you guys can say is "Thats it?" Jesus, you would think you were getting ripped off, but you are not, you are getting this just for owning a copy of SF4. Why would they give you a new character? How is that fair? Greedy bastards. You may not like colors 11 and 12, but guess what, you didn't pay a dime for them. And don't say you paid $60 for them, because you didn't, you paid $60 for SF4, not some bonus gift from Capcom. You people act like they said they were going to give you some extreme surprise.
@burn no.10
I totally agree with you. These people didn't even need to do these extra stuff for us. No. Instead the worked extra hours to make this for free. I also wonder what will it look like on other characters. Would love to see akuma/ibuki and seth
But, Seth should not have made us THIS hyped for these lol :p (maybe part of marketing plan to push people on buying sf4 ? XD jk jk :p)
when I said more out there, I mean with the colors, not something else
Well, this is kinda cool, but I think Capcom overhyped it a little.
Would've preferred them listed under costume rather than color, so I could, say, use the cross-hatch shading with Makoto's yellow pallete, for example.
Still pretty cool, looking forward to trying it out.
I'll take whatever I can get! Really like the pencil shading.
@#1 and a few others
There's obviously no bonus for having the disk. Unless you can devise a way how such a thing could actually work.
I like the shaders (I always use the ink shader on the PC), I just don't like them being colors. Now the character doesn't fit at all on the visual presentation of the game, and you can't even pick its actual color. The way the PC shaders work is much better IMO, a shame they didn't include that.
Hopefully the PC version will again do things right...
Cool, I guess, but they shouldn't have mentioned it until just now. They told us MONTHS ago about a surprise & have been very tight-lipped about it (among other things) so I gotta admit; finding out that all it is is another color is a little underwhelming.
Oh well... Still getting my copy next Tuesday!
Wow eventhubs took out my comment , thats pritty selfish give others a chance to play the game early >.>
@10
The real reason why most of us are pissed and like what a joke this is because capcom wouldn't tell us what it was. Kept building it up and up whenever asked. Like it was gonna be something BIG. They could of just told everyone from eailer on that it would be Unique colors.
But no they just built it up really high then say colors. Of course we are disappointed. Its a very LAME bonus for such a HIGH hype for it.
Now if they would addin in some special icons/titles with the colors then I wouldn't feel like this was so lame.
I agree with Kenscrub.
The thing that I find ridiculous is that they made it sound as though you need the PHYSICAL COPY of the disc when really, all you need is the save data. Capcom made that point several times. Over and over and over. Talk about misleading.
Speaking of, does any one remember when they said they were going to give out the first costume pack for free on launch? Seems like they are always recant their statements.
Did you even read my post? I don't care about the actual "gift". It's about how they are constantly misleading people with erroneous information. Who cares if it's $40 bucks? And SSF4 isn't a "bonus". The first one sold well. Of course they are going to make another. Any business trying to make money would repackage and sell a steaming pile of crap over and over it people want it.
I said the costume is a fun little bonus in so many words. I really don't see a reason to be angry. I honestly still enjoy SF4 a great deal, look forward to SSF4, and think it is nice to get anything extra. It is a matter of setting your expectations based on reality. If you buy into guesses, speculation, and early coverage there is always a chance to get burned that is why most developers try to keep so many secrets. Disappointment doesn't sell games and when people make up reasons to be disappointed they really need to stop the "fan" from ruining the experience for themselves.
But judging by the general lack of communication on this site I'm going to make a large assumption (which has the potential to start a chain of negative comments that I simply will never look back at). That assumption is you are ticked that keeping the disk itself doesn't give you the bonus the data does. The data doesn't take up much space and the only advantage you could gain by knowing all you need is the data is you could have sold SF4 for a higher price earlier then picked up SSF4. However if you really wanted that small cash difference it begs the question why play video games if you are going to get mad at spending less than $40 dollars for a new game (at this point I expect you are certainly going to sell SF4 before getting SSF4 since there is "no value in the SF4 disc anymore" so the price with a trade in would be under $40).
When applying logic and having realistic expectations it just becomes difficult to be mad about video games.
Teapo.
I'm going to break this down fro you one more time. So, listen up. It's called bad business practices. Take video games out of the equation. It's about a business (capcom) divulging misleading information about their product (ssf4). It's not acceptable ,under any circumstance, for any business to the lie to their consumers. End of story.
^ listen
You want to talk about bad business practice. If were talking about the court of law, then Capcom could argue that it was a big thing and that in their opinion this color thing is a huge deal. So go fcuk yourself
Everybody who is bitching about this what did you want...10 new characters, the game rebalanced, new ultras, stages and bonus stages for 40 bucks....is that what you wanted when you bought sf4 is that the big surprise...well you got it...you got all of it...to bitch at anything about this game resembles such a decree of ineptitude.
And for those of you who dont get it...Capcom is in this game to make money...thats it...colors are cheap...and a nice little thank you...but if everybody keeps bitching what the hell makes you think they will do anything nice again.
Go Fcuk yourself.
To Scrubby Ken and whatever other kiddies are whining about keeping the disk, how much were you really going to get for SF4? Who was going to buy it for you at anything more than the 5 dollar trade in Game Stop was going to give you? Nobody wanted SF4 by the time the bonuses were even freaking offered, you guys are just crying to cry lol.
CAPCOM nor Seth Killian hyped this. The tenacious morons getting the interviews that ask the same question over and over hyped it.
It's two extra and exclusive colors.
That's cool.
Wait till you're using it on one of the many that will come in to 4 with Super and they'll be like "Whaaaa!? How you do that?"
It's for having a save file from 4. How the hell could they know if you have the actual physical disk? Are you kids electronically retarded? There's no two rewards, it's this.
I gotta stop coming here, reading the comments does nothing but raise my blood pressure...
They said hold on to your disc though. I've been holding on to it, had I known I didn't need it, I could have given it away a long time ago and played my roomates' copy until SSF4 came out. I'm talking about since December. Why tell us to hold onto the disc when all we needed was the save file?
That's the thing though Shinebox, given it away for what? You payed 60 bucks if not more for SF4 (yeah, the game, not the costumes that you're getting extra come 2 weeks). Capcom said discs not to trick you, but why would they think that you'd just toss out the old disc when SSF4 came out? Oh hey 60 dollars, please go away now so I can pay 40 for this version and get bitchy when I only get two things for free and not more.
Hurpblox.
@ Shinebox
You can still give it away. You would have gotten the same price at Gamestop or any other place if you traded it in then as oppose to now. Complain all you guys want, but in reality, of course Capcom is going to tell you to keep one of their games, if you were a game developer, would you tell fans to get rid of one of your games? How can you blame them for that? Its a known fact that game trade-ins are hurting the industry, why would they want you to go trade in their game? haha, some people. If you actually expected something crazy magnificent then thats your own fault. I am happy with what i am getting for free.
You could always give the copy of SF4 to a friend who doesn't own it yet, unless you're really precious about retaining the original. Given that SSF4 will have all the characters of the original and more I dont' see why you'd hang on to the original apart from either sentimental reasons or you don't have anyone to give it to.
Saw these filters in motion at a preview event in Manchester yesterday. They look pretty cool and one gives the effect of pencil shading on the characters, the other creates a more cell-shaded feel to them. Nice little tweaks all the same but I can assure you with the level of play I saw on this yesterday you will not be dissapointed by this game. Remember when we'd pay full price for SFII, SFII: Champion Edition and SFII Turbo? And what did they add with each rendition? Much less thatn is being added here.
Get a little perspective here first of all.
I would keep the game just as a collector's item whether there's a bonus or not. I didn't care about the bonus.
For people who don't understand, you may accuse people of "crying" about the bonus by stating that SSFIV is a lot of value for money. That's beside the point. It's got nothing to do with the value of SSFIV at all. It's about keeping the disc or not. CAPCOM said they will give you a huge bonus if you keep it. They didn't give a huge bonus.
CAPCOM gave 2 options:
1. Keeping the disc and getting a huge bonus
2. Selling the disc and miss out on that HUGE BONUS
Guess what, there is no bonus. Those 2 colors is a political bonus, because they already promised something.
I wouldn't care less about the bonus because I collect as many SF games as I can get. But it's the misleading statement that you will be rewarded with a huge bonus which is why people are so pissed off.
Bring on SSF4 already! I'm ready for ya... bring it on!
Nice bonus! This is cool! Sure am glad I have my save data!
What they're not telling you is the 13th color is the nude skins from the PC version...
We can see a streaming of people who have SSF4 (Pirate version of SSF4 in XBOX360 i think). Good quality live streaming.
http://fr.justin.tv/cicadatehl337#r=n...
This streaming confirm that music chosen in game in VS is the music of the 2nd player.
SSF IV is such an amazing update that any small bonus for existing SF IV owners is just that: a bonus and we should be pleased about it. Besides i really don't understand why a big SF fan would want to sell their copy of SF IV in the first place, personally i never give away or sell my favorite games and i even hang on to my not so favorite ones unless i am really in need of cash
i think it's sweet the way i see it is sf4 is now a classic and this will give it a bit of life to go back and play it once while now that ssf4 is coming out(can't freakin wait!)which is no bad thing so lighten up people
@10 and everyone else who agrees with him.
It's not that we don't appreciate it, it's just that they made it out to be a really big deal, like something really really huge. It was hyped up to be something most likley beyond what is expected (Extra Costumes, Stages, new music, the anime, something...[I do agree a new character would be a unfair bonus though]) So it's not our fault we feel salty, it's a good bonus but I really wish Seth and Ono did'nt hype it up so much like it was gonna be the big money maker deal, really it's something I could have lived without.
Appreciate it but expected much more.
The sketch filter looks really cool. From what I heard, Capcom had a lot of difficulty getting the filters to work on the console versions for some reason (I believe it was because of the hardware) which is why they weren't in console vanilla IV. They're not something to get HYPE over, but if they were that difficult to implement on consoles and Capcom spent extra time getting them to work just for us, I'd be very appreciative of that.
The streaming i posted seems to be Justin Wong party :). Good players (i repost the stream) :
http://fr.justin.tv/cicadatehl337#r=n...
@xShonuffx
Capcom never made it out to be a big deal. The fans did. All the people that were interviewing S. Kill asked him over and over and he said the same thing every time. Its not their fault. They NEVER said you were going to get a HUGE bonus, the just said a gift. They DID say that you might wanna keep your SF4 disc, but I already addressed that in an earlier post. In conclusion, don't get mad at Capcom because you hyped yourself up over something that wasn't really that big of a deal.
F_cking right man. Nowhere did either of them say "Huge" or hell even "big"
IN FACT
I think they may have used the words "nice little" when answering this.
I said it too up there, CAPCOM didn't hype this, the interviewers that thought they'd pry an answer out of them by asking the question repeatedly hyped it.
It's good to see everyone B1tching so much about getting something for nothing, because they could have easily made it so there was no bonus for having the original. I sure as hell didn't get a bonus in MW2 for owning MW1.
The fans hyped it up so much, I mean WTF did you expect to get?! You don't even need the disk, only the save file so why would they give out a huge bonus for people who could just go rent the game and get the bonus anyways?
Stop complaining and enjoy that you're getting the costumes and a new game at $40 (Less if you traded in your old SF4).
#10 is right you guys overhyped this yourselves, the game is 40 bucks, quit bitchin. If they had never said anything about this bonus you wouldn't even have gave a f*ck right? Why you bitchn now, you got your money's worth from SFIV for over a year anyway. I appreciate this bonus
@taicak #40
Nice counter argument. I really like how you repeated the expletive phrase over and over. No one is crying about the price, the extra characters, or even the hype around the bonus. The point is, Capcom said keep the disc when you don't need to. Just like they said they were going to hand out the first costume pack on launch; but, quickly reneged.
when capcom said " keep the game and you'll get something extra". what's the pointing of keeping the game? all you need is the save file. Isn't that false info for keeping the disc? I thought that w'll get something for keeping the DISC itself.
The whole $40 dollars thing reminds me... Do you really think capcom made ssf4 $40 as a "service to the fans"? No, they did that as a marketing strategy because they knew less people would buy it full price. That's the only defense you guys have against the whole "we lied about keeping the disc" situation.
Kinda cool. I actually really wanted a color that would make the characters look like they were drawn. The cross-hatch is a little under-whelming though. Oh well still free.
THawk #33 said it best. All anyone does on Eventhubs is moan. Colour 11 actually looks sick and 12 looks a lot better than I thought it was going to. They could've just released SSFIV without these and it'd be fine. The are a bonus for simply having SFIV save files. You didn't earn them, really. But you guys are expecting Capcom to what? Give you a car with the purchase of SSFIV? Get over it. You guys will never be satisfied. With LIFE. Lol
It's not a great bonus, but it is something. Good job Capcom.
To every idiot that replied to me about selling it at gamestop. I SAID GIVE IT AWAY. To a person, unfortunately I did not do this and they went out and bought their own copy of SF4. But meh, they bought a used copy so Capcom didn't make a dime off them.
I love how Capcom can word something differently, "Oh yeah, keep the game (which would include the save file) and you can get a gift" and people are up in flames when you need only the save file, thinking that this was some kind of deliberate evil plan by the corporation to keep them down.
They chose a different phrase, one which was easy to understand, and forget it, people do what they're told and then they flip out when the instructions weren't specific enough for their needs. B4ym4n you're just making a big deal over a difference in wording that wasn't a deliberate lie, your blowing up word choice that you decided and set your heart to be one thing.
A better looksy :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cDVBj...
@87
keep the game doesnt equal a save file, when they say keep the game it means keeping the disc. And i remember months ago when they mentioned a surprised they mentioned holding on to the disc.
Honestly i wasnt really excepting much, the extra colors are ok but they could have done alittle better. A free alt for ur favorite character or a free alt pack of ur choice would have been alot nicer but o well. Keeping the disc really isnt all that hard anyway, its not like people that are interested in super 4 arent still playing regular 4.
Seriously, people are so self-entitled. "A free costume pack is what I wanted!", jesus, Capcom's not going to pay you for buying a game they already made for you. Why would you expect that? You didn't pay 60 bucks for a free pack of costumes, you paid for Street Fighter 4, whatever else they give you is frosting and they could just as well have said you don't get anything. Damn.
Quick question... are colors 11 and 12 always the default color with these shading effects? Or can you apply the effects of colors 11 and 12 to any of the colors 1 through 10?
Even though they look cool, I have favorite colors I like to use for most of the characters, and none are the default color. =P
http://fr.justin.tv/cicadatehl337#r=F...
SSF4 stream of VS. matches w/ character themes.
Okay the problem isn't "all we get is 2 extra colors" the problem lies in how Capcom went about it. and for all those people that say quit whining about it let's review some things.
I paid 60 dollars for Street Fighter 4 played it loved it. Now For Super to come out and have everything 4 had plus more for only 40 is a great thing but it's like a big Screw you to the people who paid 60 a year ago for basically being in a public beta.
Now them saying we can get something extra for having Street fighter 4 is a great business plan because it encourages customer loyalty. I would be fine if those 2 colors were available exsclusively to those who had the original but there's a couple of problems. I didn't see any confirmation during the video that acknowledged Street Fighter 4 data or anything. Problem 2 is We were told months ago "Don't get rid of your copy of street fighter 4 just yet there will be a special bonus for owning the "DISC"". What they did was essentially freeze the market on people unloading their Old copies on used retailers.
Now if you try and sell your copy today you'll be lucky to get 2 dollars for it because nobody will want the original once Super is out.
I'm still holding out hope that there's another reason I've held on to my disc for the last 4 months (besides practice).
Another point i forgot. I remember an interview a couple months ago shortly after street fighter 4 came out over Xbox marketplace where people asked if they could still get the bonus if they had downloaded the game as opposed to owning a physical copy and he said It was something he had to look into because he was unfamiliar with the technology and he would have R&D look into it.
That right there points towards the bonus being something disc related and not save data related.
People here are so ungrateful...since you apparently don't need the SFIV disc anymore, why don't you put it towards SSFIV and save a little bit of money...? That will give you something to do with the disc, and you still get 2 extra colors. My goodness...
@#93 on1on: it is only one colour and isn't always the characters default (#1) colour. Viper's was blue, it looks sick though! However only colours 1 & 2 (default) were unlocked when I played and used colour 11. Maybe you can apply the shading to other colours once unlocked. You unlock colours and taunt by just playing as a character. It's pretty cool actually :)
@97
I got rid of my SF4 when the TIV was $16 so I really only paid $30 for my SSF4. Anyways as I said before, what did you expect? I mean there's only so much they could give you to begin with.
In a way Capcom kinda fooled you guys into thinking keeping the SF4 disk was going to be beneficial, everything you said in your post is pretty much true....but at this point all you can do is be happy you're getting the extra colors and that you're getting the game at almost half price.
i take back my comment i made ealier.
I sorta like the comic book looking colors
@104
Oh cmon now, How did you think they would know whether you rented the game or actually owned it? Sure you can say they lied to you but it wasn't that hard to see early on that their lie was terrible.
b4ym4n's right. They said keep the disc when we clearly don't need it, so we WERE in fact lied to.
Do you all remember the home version of Tekken 3? It had a Theater Mode and with that, you were able to, when prompted, take out your Tekken 3 disc & insert your Tekken 1 or 2 disc & enjoy the movies & music from THOSE games. I'm no technical guy, but couldn't the bonus be handled this way? You could go somewhere in the options, find a "Get SFIV bonus" option & then it would prompt you to insert your Vanilla SFIV disc to verify that you do indeed have the game.
Now even if you didn't own it, I suppose you can still get the bonus the same way if you borrowed the disc from your friend, rented it or even bought & returned it, but having the disc & having a save is NOT the same thing. That WOULD be a lot of trouble just for two colors though.
@Burn
WTF, so basically your saying that we should be happy with the 2 colors because your happy? GTFO. No one here is stupid man. And if you read some of the post they go into detail about how capcom marketed this really bad for the fans.
So if your happy with what you got then fine, be happy and let live, but don't try playing devils advocate by defending Capcoms reason and telling everyone they should have known better.
It's not the value of the "gift" but how it was advertised/delivered. It's like your aunt keeps nagging you on the whole year about a big Christmas gift she is gonna give you but it's a suprise, then come Christmas you open it up and it's a Christmas sweater.
So Burn, enjoy your Sweater because unlike you I probably won't be wearing it for a few days anyways. Peace.
I totally agree that Capcom mishandled this if in fact all we need is the save file rather than the disc for the bonus.
To the ppl who are saying there's no way to do a real disc bonus because there's no way to tell whether you own or borrowed the disc, c'mon, is it really that hard to imagine how they could do this?
They could for example, make you register for the bonus using something that uniquely identifies your copy, say the UPC code or maybe some internal ID on the SF4 disc itself. And who said the bonus has to be some in-game thing in SSF4? What if it's a separate thing you download or install from the SSF4 disc (like a demo or artwork gallery etc.), which requires you to insert the SF4 disc to launch??
If it turns out the extra colours is the "disc" bonus, it certainly won't be because it's technically impossible to do anything else. That's just absurd.
I just hope that these colors arent the "surprise" Ono was mentioning, if it is then Ono really hyped it up for no reason. To get the colors is just to have a save data of SF4, not the disc itself. I remember Ono saying something about having the actual disc as a "surprise" he didnt say anything about save data. Ono also mentioned that he would announce the surprise 1 week before the release of ssf4 and this whole color announcement has been out for a while.
My BIG huge insane guess for the surprise would maybe gettin an early copy of ssf4, only linking to gamestop as a deal. Bringing in ur copy of sf4, they mark it somehow, and u get ur copy of ssf4. That be pretty sweet! But like i said, its a pretty insane guess. LOL!
And wasnt Ono suppose to announce the surprise at a Hawaii event, not in the United Kingdom?
People are so F*cking stupid.. These colors are what we get for the save data, nothing more. You paid for the SF4 to play the game, not to get something worth of real value after the sequel. Don't be redicioulous. Like it or not, these colors are all we get.
I personally like them so I don't mind, think it's a nice addition to the sequel and it's something I've not seen before.
Hmmmm. So...
As a kind of "thank you" for buying the first game for my console, I'm being rewarded with a feature that I've already had for months on my PC copy of SF4? That doesn't make very much sense to me. And a /stripped-down/ feature at that; not being able to mix and match rendering styles and colours at the same time puts this a big step down from the PC release's functionality, which I found to be almost useless as it was...
The rendering modes look like ass to me - far too distracting from the gameplay, as they reduced the readability of your player's actions - and so I always had them set to disabled after initially checking them out.
Capcom's handling of this was very strange, also; repeatedly stating that the physical disc would be needed to unlock the content - which it now seems isn't the case - is a shady move. But it's clear why they would do it.
Conversely, who really cares about this? Not me! SSF4, bitches!
I'm not sure what people expected or why they thought they needed to keep the physical disk.
I mean, how would they reward people that kept a physical disk? How would they know who had the disk? If they had some mail-in system, that seems like it would be a headache for Capcom to process. At most, and easiest way for them, is for the game to detect who has SFIV saved data and go off of that.
In the old days they didn't give you anything for buying SFII, SFII Turbo, SSFII...etc. etc. They even charged full price for each. At least the game is cheaper and you get a few extra colors.
Some people are never satisfied. Capcom should have just not offered anything, so people wouldn't complain about their "gift."
@116
EXACTLY! I bet if Capcom had never mentioned anything about a bonus, and had even priced the game $20 higher, almost everyone here would still have bought the game.
So I'm getting a bonus on SSFIV for PS3 that I already have on the PC version for buying the original PS3 version. Right on.
And to the guy that mentioned full price for SFII, SFIIT, and SSFII. Sure they charged full price but how well did SSFII do on consoles again?
@ 110 Is it worth the hassle to do all the scanning of UPC codes, tracking for duplicates, collecting gamertags/PSN ids issuing redeem codes e.t.c? How will they get the UPC codes? They have to get with different retailers all over the world and ask them to start emailing in the codes?
Doing some kind of physical game verification is too much of a pain. I was skeptical as to how they could pull that off. Needless to say I am not surprised about how it turned out.
@120
Well, let's think about this for a minute. All you really need is some registry to keep track of which code has been used. You enter the UPC code which you have on your box or whatever, your bonus content is activated. Someone else tries to use the same code, too bad, it's been used. Even if they need to send you a redeem code, millions of websites have this sort of registration system in place, you register, the site sent you back an activation code or link. Why is it so hard to do?
Ok, so let's just say it's really too hard to do a registration system. So what about the separate download that looks for the disc when you run it? Most if not all disc based games requires you to insert the disc to run. Again, is this really so hard to do?
Seriously, these ppl can develop a pretty decent fighting game on multiple platforms, I think they can figure out how to do a registration system or a disc check.
@ skinny_pig
What is stopping people from walking into used game stores and writing down the UPC code? It could even be a new copy. Someone else buys that copy cause its peanuts now and complains that his UPC code is not working. Then its "Capcom you lied I have the original and I can't get the bonus."
Unless they have a complete listing of all the UPCs for copies that have been sold by retailers then they cannot verify these codes.
Registration system is fine for dumping a bunch of codes on a website and having them mailed out. In this case the control would be verifying that the game has been purchased. Same issue with not knowing the UPCs of all sold games. That would have to be reported by retailers.
Separate download is an issue cause there is no unique identifier on the disc. One friend held on to the game so you just all pass it around and run the program that Capcom had to go through the trouble of getting certified on PSN and Live.
At the end is like why bother? Throw in some shaders and call it a day. If the bonus was anything of value people would find ways around it anyway.
^
Ok, somebody copying the UPC code is a valid point, there isn't a good way to stop anyone from doing that. So fine, we'll scratch that idea.
But I would still say the separate download is a viable solution. The idea is not to prevent you from passing the disc to your friend to access the bonus content, the idea is that at any point in time, only you *or* your friend can access it. It's the same with any other games you buy, technically you are the sole owner the game (or bonus content as the case maybe), you are certainly allowed to let others use it when you are not using it.
Look, all I'm saying is there are ways to do the disc-based bonus that's not difficult to do. Why bother to do it you asked? Because if they don't, Capcom would have made a false statement to their customers. I think they absolutely should not just throw in colours and call it a day, and pretend none's the wiser. They should at least explain their change of decision, that's just good PR.
so we still don't know what the bonus is for actually having the disc? :/
