A few more Super Street Fighter 4 reviews have been posted, GamesTM and Edge Magazine both gave the title a 9 of out 10 score. This is also true of the underlying game engine; the background metronome is now tapping away at a greater pace – so if, like us, you played SFIV to death, you’ll find your link and tech timing needs retuning as you make the jump to SSFIV. But far from being a negative this extra speed allows swifter characters like Chun-Li and El Fuerte to better push their advantage, while Zangief doesn’t seem quite so sluggish. That said, SSFIV’s most significant addition is the selectable Ultra system.
In SFIV, the best strategies often revolved around connecting your Ultra after an impressive focus combo. But with each character now having a choice between two very different Ultras, the scope for combo creativity and play-style experimentation is far greater, to the point where the variety it offers over SFIV is infinitely more diverse than the expanded roster suggests. Some of the new Ultras even surpass the originals, including Fei Long’s one-inch-punch counter and Rufus’ even more ridiculous Big Bang Typhoon.
There were also fears that SSFIV was going to be a lazy shoto-clone rehash, and it easily could have been, but rather than give us Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma, Capcom instead crafted a fully-fledged sequel that improves upon the original in all areas. Indeed, this could never have been achieved with DLC; in addition to new stages, costumes, stories and challenges, we essentially get the best bits of the Street Fighter universe rolled up into one amazing game. So, to put it bluntly, if you own and loved SFIV, then SSFIV is as important to your mental well being as the oxygen in the atmosphere. This is the ultimate love letter from Capcom, and the perfect fuel to keep the Street Fighter passion alight.
Regardless, the good news is that Super Street Fighter 4 is getting very strong reviews from critics so far.
This is good news, good job Capcom, im already putting my vote for best fighting game of 2010. Theyve done so many good gameplay changes, only 15 more days til game comes out, so excited.
awesome....awesome to the max
we need as much hype as we can get for this game
perfect score FTW!
"So, to put it bluntly, if you own and loved SFIV, then SSFIV is as important to your mental well being as the oxygen in the atmosphere. "
LOL lately I've been feeling like this, basically whenever I get a chance on the computer, I go to eventhubs and see if I can find more SSFIV vids. 15 days seems way too long.
"Some of the new Ultras even surpass the originals, including Fei Long’s one-inch-punch counter"
As soon as i read this i knew not to take anything they said seriously. The speed thing would have been nice though lol.
@SnakeEyes
Seriously, I check Eventhubs about 30 times a day D:
Man, 15 days! I can't believe it's already this close to launch. I remember back when they announced the release date, I near died when I learned I needed to wait 4 months. Now, we're in the home stretch!
Waiting for this game to come out it's actually painful! :'<
And the funny thing is that the wait for SSFIV is much shorter that the wait of the original game. I still remember reading the article of "How to STFU about SSFIV!" on Destructoid.
Good times.
Yeah, it's nice that it's getting good scores so far. By the way, I've been wondering if I should trade in my copy of SF4. Mostly because everyone is going to end up playing Super, but I haven't done it yet because I'm not sure if you need the disc for the spacial content or just the memory on your console. Anyone know or not?
I'm pretty sure I read the game is EXACTLY the same speed as before. What does he mean links will be harder. They are the same as before... RIDICULOUSLY difficult for most of the cast and easy for Ryu.
Easy for Ryu?
The only thing easy for Ryu is Justin Wong.
You sir, need to be strapped to a rocket and fired at the sun.
@13 - I too have read mixed reports re: the game speed. The most recent reports vehemently stating that it was exactly the same as SFIV. Odd. I guess we'll have to wait and see but its odd hearing so much conflict over something so simple unless the change is very subtle perhaps.
I have to admit that a lot of the gameplay we've seen so far looks *slightly* faster but perhaps this aspect too has been subject to revision like many of the earlier changes we've seen implemented and subsequently dropped throughout development.
Multiple people have claimed to do side-by-side tests of SF4 and SSF4, and it's pretty much confirmed at this point that there is NO speed difference at all.
Maybe this reviewer just feels this way because some of the new characters seem faster than the old ones?
I'm of the opinion that counter Ultras are beneficial to a certain degree. For instance, Cammy's: Cannon Spike FADC Gyro Drive Smasher does not give a full hit; you get up to the Cannon Spike at the end however, you don't the neck break at the end, less damage than what it could be. Same with Fei Long's Flame Kick FADC Ultra. You get about 3 hits out of the Ultra in mid-screen, still not a full hit.
Although, Capcom could have though of something else, such as Cammy's Killer Bee Assault from SFA3 or better known in the Marvel series the Super when she yelled, "Lock on" or Fei Long's Shien Renkyaku which could be similar to Ken's Shinryuken or his Ryu Hassai from SFA3.
The only speed difference is in the start-up of the Focus Attacks, and the increase walk speed of a couple characters like Ken and Chun (I think Chun...might have been someone else)

I'm sure people would complain that giving Cammy the Killer Bee as the 2nd ultra, would make it "unfair". I have a friend of mine that says that Cammy is "broken because she is way too fast" (of course it's just cuz of the way I use her) so I'm sure giving her an awesome ultra would just add to that.
Well, I'm off to hone my strategy by practising some "impressive focus combos". XD

Well, I only used Killer Bee has an example, LOL. But still who wouldn't want to see Killer Bee in the SF4, I know I would love to see it. I can see how Killer Bee would give Cammy a nice boost but not to point of her being broken. They could regulate the damage so it's not OP.
But at the same time, Makoto's Abare Tosa Nami Kudaki has similar properties to Killer Bee, it terms of the start up so comboing into the Killer Bee would more than likely be as difficult as Abare Tosa Nami Kudaki.
@#1
I guess we'll never know until 2 weeks from now (when we have it). Articles like this say it's faster, while hands-on reports from players at Wondercon, etc. say it's the same speed. We'll see, but it's looking like the latter is true.
I used to want more speed, but I'm fine either way.
I don't really trust any game review site. None of them are completely objective (Joystiq is close), and some are not objective at all (IGN=paid in full).
The only reviews I am going to trust are those written by members of the SF community that don't have an interest in making CAPCOM look good.
I'm more waiting for when IGN, Gamespot and other sites get their thoughts on this. Regardless, the anticipation for this game is too intense.
SSFIV would probably be more enjoyable if they had kept the same announcer and didn't add the lame SF3 characters, but looks basically the same.
@ 19
SSF4 pizza party does sound like a good idea.
When I FIRST heard about SSF4 I groaned saying "too soon" but after I saw heard the price and the hinted additions my opinion changed. My excitement doubled when I heard Dudely and Makoto where rumored to be in.(they are my two favorite characters from sf3 and some of my favorite sf characters) then the bonus stages from sf2..I was sold lol. I got a feeling I'll like this
ps. I actually thin counter ultras are fine*is killed*
"This is also true of the underlying game engine; the background metronome is now tapping away at a greater pace – so if, like us, you played SFIV to death, you’ll find your link and tech timing needs retuning as you make the jump to SSFIV."
Does this mean that ssf4 is actually faster?
