Capcom employees, Seth Killian and Christian Svensson, talked about Super Street Fighter 4's Tournament Mode DLC and other online options as well as briefly discussing the Vs. series recently on the Unity Boards. Will Super Street Fighter 4's Tournament Mode DLC have brackets?
Seth: Brackets [will] be a part of the Tournament Mode DLC that's coming to SSFIV after launch (it's free!). We should have a flood of new info about the Tournament Mode coming in ~2 weeks, so rather than tease with some vagueness, I'll just say "stay tuned" and give you the full story then.
If I'm not fighting, can I watch matches being played in SSF4's Endless Battle mode?
Seth: Even if you are not playing, you CAN still watch the match being played while you're in "Endless Battle" (aka arcade-style lobbies) mode, or in "Team Battle" mode. Voice chat also works, so you can discuss what's happening with everyone else while you're waiting to play.
Will there be an option in SSF4 to enable Japanese names for the cast members? I'd like Boxer to be M. Bison, etc.
Sven: I believe the names are selected by the region associated with the hardware. So if you bought your machine in Japan and it has a Japanese location setting, you should see the Japanese names.
Will you guys be porting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to the Wii?
Sven: We don't have Wii rights from Marvel but all the same I had toyed with that idea. Unfortunately, the economics don't work. We'd have to sell it at a significantly higher price at retail on Wii. Break even on the expected costs and lower margins are higher than the volume I'd reasonably expect to sell.
Any updates on what's causing the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Battle Points to be reset?
Seth: We're still tracking down what's causing it, as well as what we can do about it.
Will we see PC Collector's Edition versions of Capcom titles?
Sven: Retail in North America is increasingly less supportive of PC releases in general, much less secondary SKUs. On the other hand, our digital PC business is accelerating. That said, you've given me an idea. Perhaps our Capcom e-Store can fulfill the fan needs on this front. Let me speak to our licensing group about it.
Are there plans to port Tatsunoko vs. Capcom to the PC?
Sven: Sorry but no, we aren't going to port this title to PC.
Good stuff.
Approaching the last 14 days now, and I won't be breaking official release by playing it early.
They've probably got things in place to catch turds that try to play it on(off)line early anyway.
This is going to be a painful wait. :/
@#2
I highly doubt it's going to, but I agree double elimination would be really cool.
@ #6
Indeed. A painful wait indeed but it makes me want to say damn it... I want that game already I want to play it.
@FOOLS/#9:
Championship mode is out. And good riddance. With the ranked mode oversights fixed (i.e., no fiddling with time/round options), there's no point to Championship mode, which was just a feel-good grindfest.
This is something entirely different -- it's not meant to "replace" Championship.
Quite delighted to see Championship mode not returning. Ranked was way more fun to me, because as said above, Championship mode was mostly a grind mode. I do enough grinding out of Final Fantasy XI!
Now that Ranked won't have the ability to mess with the settings, and since BP will be character related, I can hardly wait. One of the things I'm looking forward to the most.
Ranked will actually help you get a feel for how good you are, since a single loss can take so many points away, where as Championship mode rewards you for putting more time into it than other people do.
I don't really understand what makes Championship any more or less of a "grind" than Ranked. You are fighting the same kinds of matches, sometimes even against the same players, and you stop whenever you want to. In Ranked you are punished more severely for a loss, but it could just as easily be argued that this makes it equally a "grind" to recover the previous number of BP (if you care about that sort of thing). In both cases, the goals are set by the player.
That said, I think a lot of people played Championship just because it had blind select. That was my reason for sticking with it.
unless they optimize net code so its atleast stable for every somewhat decent connection I'll go with Justin Wongs opinion and call online Bs that doesn't count and not worth "grinding" for points that are worth nothing in the next game and earn me nothing in this one
onlines fine where i live.
we get 4 bar connections from east coast to west coast (>2000 miles distance)
japans and most of europe is ok too i hear.
the problem is with america and its caveman internet. they need to upgrade their shizz.
having said that, nothing beats the arcade experience :)
Why all of a sudden people want fighting games for the pc? someone explain that to me, please.
i hope they have options for both single and double elimination
16 days till the Bulls*hit drop and I'm not excited
the guy asking about the jap names needs to be shot. I mean, the name vega doesnt fit the SPANISH cage fighter better then balrog? Mind u most of us comnig up as kids didnt know or even cared about wtf they call them in japan. Give me a break. Wapanese people need help.
i really dont like Ranked matches at all, because people is so scared to lose points on that mode that Rage Quitting its ridiculous.
To me Championship mode its better because you play against people close to your level and even if you lose you gain points for your progress not that online points matter at all but at least it gives people a reason to stay in the match so rage quitting its almost eliminated, i think i can count with 1 hand the times people had rage quit on me since i play on Championship mode unlike Ranked mode where i just have lost count on how many times that has happened
@26
so ur saying pc > console because of nood skins..? what are you 13? we live in the age of internet porn
i think the SFIV online is pretty dumb and confusing, i used to play ranked but when championship went out everybody stick to it, and not forget BP, GP, i mind why not just have 1 grade level like an overall score that would make the leaderboards more inttense, but no in SSFIV will be BP PP and GP if im not wrong. I hope tournament, ranked & teambattle gives you PP to be the overall score
@ 26
You're right, people will likely rage quit a lot more often from Ranked Matches, but that's why the system to show their disconnect % is there.
The reason I prefer ranked over Championship mode is because if you can keep rising in Ranked, that means you've earned it, because a single loss can take so many points away. You mention that you like Championship mode because it puts you against people closer to your level, but I think all it does is put you against people who have put a lot of time into getting points, simply because they don't get punished for losing. You can't get high BP if you keep losing, so you can be pretty sure someone with high BP is a good player, where as that's not always true with someone who has high GP.
Hence why rage quitting will be quite a bit more common as you said, but the people who do it a whole lot will dig their own graves. Not too many people are going to play matches if that player has 10% or more of unfinished games in SSF IV. I don't think they will anyway.
ranked matches were ok but two things kill it. the 1st one is rage quitteing. ppl are so scared in losing those matches they just straight up quit, leavin u with d 'WTF!?' feelin. also u can clearly see what ur opponent will pick & viseversa.so when d match begins & ur opponent's bout to lose (after pickin a character to counter yours) they quit. at least in champ mode they dont see who u pick. thats why i stick to champ mode. it seems lame but thats how i see it. peace :)
the problem with all of it is that the system needs to be changed in the following way;
if a player ragequits, they need to be penalized as if they lost it.
the other side needs to be awarded the win.
bad luck if your internet disconnects you accidentally.
I would love it if they had added a way to swap the names around. Maybe record just a couple lines of English dialogue with the original names for people who like the original names more. Would make this game 12/10 for me
Ranked mode = bollox
Champ mode = separates the boys from the men
It'll be fantastic if this bracket/tournament system works offline also.
It'll make running tournaments so much easier. Right now we spend a lot of time yelling out people's names and searching for people when trying to progress brackets while while it adds to the character of playing tournaments, it would be nice if a built-in system cleanly facilitated this. I have my suspicions this is what Capcom are doing.
Well, I hate Ranked Mode in SF4. The fact that you lose so much more points than you gain means that you have to keep your win rate above 75% to keep advancing up. Honestly, how many people can keep that rate up? It's not rare that I would win 5 matches and gain 100 BP or so, then lose one to someone with less points and lose 150BP. Oh, and yes, the ragequitters...
I love the Championship mode. It has blind select, gets players of similar levels together, and there's no waiting around between matches because you can just switch to arcade mode in the meantime. If you lose, no problem -you automatically get into a new tourney.
I hope it's not a pain to start up and participate in this mode.
We'll see. But I bet I'd miss Champ mode if it was gone.
Still psyched for the 27th!!
Yeah rage quitter.. Yo vanilla do u have the game pirated becuz u said ur gonna try not to play the game offline or online cuz u might get caught ??? I want it if u do tell me
Nah man I'm buying retail.
Long gone are the days of 0 day ftp and hacking eggdrops. :)
I was just sounding out a general warning to anybody whos thinking of going down that route.
guile_mak did u get the link i sent u of the poster?
is that sweet or what.... i aint even put it up because I wanna preserve it till i get my own house
GaygoUmehado/#39,
You have shown intense disrepect and contempt for Ryu.
The Shoto Army will have you marked.
You will feel the full force of the Metsu.
Cammy nope I didn't get it I was wondering if u sent it send it to this email cannonbanga@aim.com
Wardog yeah more online more modes would keep the game fun so they really should keep championship mode so there can't be any countering picking or have any idea what character they are facing
Everyone comparing Championship mode to Ranked mode need to realize that Championship mode was made to correct the loop-holes SF4 ranked had. It was pointless and didn't mimic the arcade system (ranked did).
In SSF4 It will have all the safe-guards champ mode did without the BS... One guy has to beat 5 daigos while the other dude who made it to the finals lucked out with a bunch of flowcharts.... Really.... championship mode.....
It is tru though BP points are hopefully better calc I hate having 10 bp more than my opponent lose and lose like 150 bp and win only 45 when we are basically the same level. There should be some system meter that weighs the advantage/disadvantage system so that Bp lost is more standardized based on "skill"
@14
I play Championship mode for the same reason. I hate playing without blind select because as soon as people see me choose Fei or Dan in Ranked they immediately go for Sagat or Gief, thinking it'll be a free match for them. Instead it just means I have to play yet another match where I have to work twice as hard as the other person at all times. I play low tier characters because I do actually enjoy working hard for my wins but god do those match-ups become a slog.
!!!NEWSFLASH!!!
CAPCOM DOESNT LIKE THE PC!
More at their next release, when they say again that they're not doing a PC version.
Yeah blind select is the best they should put that in if they have no intention of bringing back champ mode
lol Blind Select? Why would i want to select my character while I'm blind?
In my opinion, Championship Mode was better because it gave players clear goals to aim for. If you're G3-E, you're motivated to advance to G3-D. If you're G2-A, you're motivated to advance to G1. It gives players a much better sense of where they are in the game. Battle Points aren't like that because it's difficult to say what constitutes a high BP, to know how you compare to other players (plus the game has problems keeping track of ranks), and to have anything to aim for (unlike the arcade version which gave players titles, e.g. AA, Master, Grandmaster).
@ ActualProof: Earned GP is based on CP, which is based on others players' GP. So to some extent, beating 5 "Daigos" is likely to get you more GP than 5 flowcharts.
Blind select is one of the fixes to Ranked in SSFIV, along with a locked number of rounds and timer.
@dannyboy: SF isn't supposed to be about grinding your way to a high point value, like some MMORPG.
Ranked lets you know where you stand relative to everyone else playing the game, making it possible to consistently play against opponents of a desired strength relative to your own. That's the point of the system -- ranking you. It's not supposed to be a feel good after-school special where everyone who tries hard "wins".
interesting
