Street Fighter 4 series producer, Yoshinori Ono, told the Official Xbox Magazine that he has no intentions of carrying the Street Fighter 4 saga beyond this month's release of SSF4, although there's room for Street Fighter 5 in the future.How did you rebalance the old characters for Super Street Fighter IV? Did you consult the top players or was everything done internally?
Ono: In the past year, we went through all the statistics and all the data in terms of how matches went, and as well as that we made NDAs with top players and carried out some tests with the game in progress. We found out what they thought of these characters and how they could use the characters. With both of the findings together, we established a separate team - not a development team but an independent balancing team - and they went through both findings, matched them and tried to come up with their own solution. So that's how we have done it.
They're saying that right now but they're probably gonna make a new one in about 2 years from now...maybe...
SFV is not gonna come out anytime soon. Probably in 4 - 6 years. Look how long it took SFIV to come out after 3rd Strike came out
He probably meant no more Ultra street fighter 4. But I'll definitely be expecting SFV no matter how long it takes.
Keep it alive with DLC!!!!!! New Characters & New stages!!!!!
Its a repost but just so no one tries to tell me they can't do it:
NEW CHARACTER DEBATE: ARGUMENTS AND ANSWERS:
argument 1.)
New DLC characters would be broken due to no testing/tweaking/balancing.
answer:
Not if they are tested in the arcade first. With new arcade machines coming, this is a strong possibility. Sega did it with VF. Namco did it with Tekken and Soul Caliber.
argument 2.)
Capcom shouldn't add new characters because it will take too long to learn match ups.
answer:
So what? Don't you want a challenge? Isn't that why you play the game? So it will take a little longer. That's part of the fun. If you invest the time, you will be prepared.
argument 3.)
The game has enough characters already.
answer:
What? really? You DON'T want MORE game to play? You want to get bored faster and move on to the next game more quickly? Ok . . . go ahead.
I don't know about you but I remember when SFII was in Seven Eleven (yes I'm that old) so you can't blame me for being a little tired of the vanilla cast after 20 F***king years!!! Some people out there don't want to do hadokens forever and enjoy the variety, diversity, and longevity that new characters bring to the game. Elena, R. Mika,Q, Rose, Hakkan, and Abel are good examples of this.
argument 4.)
DLC should be free.
answer:
You are right but ONLY if that DLC was created DURING the development of the game. If the DLC is already on the disc and is unlocked via a code, then the consumer (you) is being charged an additional fee to enjoy property that you already own. This is a despicable business practice and I don't endorse it.
If its created AFTER the game comes out, or by a separate team working parallel to the main development team, then they absolutely deserve to be paid for it. Creating additional content after the release of a game costs Capcom time, time is money, and development is very expensive. Industry artists get paid in peanuts as it is (I'm a 2d & 3d artist; Maya, GSI, ZBrush, Adobe, etc.)and deserve to be able to feed their families.
You don't deserve anything for free from Capcom if they release it AFTER SSF4 comes out. If you get it, please appreciate it.
The fact is that this is a business decision. Capcom's primary concern is making money. If Capcom can make money releasing DLC, you better believe they will. As much as most of you complain out there, most of you will buy it if they make it, regardless if it adds to the game or screws it up. This is all about $$$. Remember that.
Ok, well alough this is all based on facts, it is still my opinion, and I am a human being that is capable of being wrong, so if you notice something that I posted that you feel is incorrect, please let me know!
No plans for another SF4. But there were "no plans" for arcade or PC releases, either.
Point being, even if there are plans going around, they just won't tell you. Particularly after so many people were pissed off that a sequel is coming little more than a year after the console release. An announcement of Ultra SFIV right now could result in a significant dent in sales.
whats the point of making new sf4 when the engine is set in stone, everything can be updated via DLC... so theres really no need
until 5 of course
Forget SSF4!!!! NEO GEO NEO GEO!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfcy-X...
He said no more Street Fighter 4. So we're moving on from it if it continues, like from II to Alpha.
Wonder how SFV will eventually look and play.
I'd be really fine with it being as long away as 4 was to 3.
Is good to know that the guys at Capcom let SSFIV some years to bright like a star (hopefully). But then again, I don't really know if they gonna come up with other SFIV game in the future.
Personally, I would love that they just keep the game alive with DLC (free or not) for a long time. The game alone as we know it have a lot of content to keep people busy for months. Also, I don't have all the money in the world to buy the game, the DLC, AND other games that I might want to play in the future.
Oh well, the only complain that I have is about the god awful american box art. But... I can live with that. ._.'
@#13
Eh!? You'd have to buy 2+ consoles, a game disc for each of them, and then you complain about the cheapest part?
Not that it'd make a difference, in my experience. The tournament organizers, being players themselves, would have already bought all that crap.
And finally, I don't know how things are on XBL, but on PSN you're allowed to download a purchase up to 5 times, even if on a different machine. So you just need one purchase for up to 5 PS3s.
I'm happy that they took that lousy pop song from SF4 and I'm also more happy that every character will have their own theme song which is awesome. Hope that the SSF4 Original Soundtrack comes around.
I still hope they would make a new fighting game universe.
now that the Street Fighter series is out of the way... LETS GET SOME DARKSTALKERS!!!
hopefully they are putting the SF series on a temporary standby and going to concentrate on other capcom games. but i really do hope they bring Darkstalkers back! I really dont even think there gonna stop the SF series! its brought too much money to the company!
As long as the game is kept in 2d.5 I'm happy with it. I don't want street fighter 5 to be 3d or it will go down the pipe like other games (MK RIP)
To be honest, I'm just gonna ignore comments from Capcom like this - because they bull**** so damned much.
I'll only believe this comment when SF5 comes out.
@8 in response to answers...
argument 1.)
The problem is that DLC Characters would provide an unfair advantage market wise to players who choose not to do DLC or have no access to DLC. Stages, Costumes ect. do not disrupt the balance of the roster.
argument 2.)
Who makes this kind of argument? Show me.
argument 3.)
Umm there are other fighters I want to play besides SFIV like MvC3 or Darkstalkers 5 ect. If I get bored there are plenty other fighters. Also Ono is trying to avoid rebalancing and retooling SFIV because it would only cater to the Hardcore, Balancing through DLC is fair enough.
argument 4.)
DLC should be free depending on the value, for example Tournament Mode. But Music, Costumes, ect. Should cost something. Characters if any should be free to keep the character roster balanced. But I highly disagree with any DLC characters for a fighting game. See answer to Argument 1.
SSFIV is a complete game and i'd rather their resources would go into other projects besides street fighter series. The fighting game community is back, lets keep it fresh with more games and not reshell the same game 10 times over.
hmm... well if Super is the last in the SF4 saga, I'll be kinda sad, mostly because I would really like to see a bunch of characters in the SF4 engine. Like Alex, Necro, maybe some more original characters. Heck, knowing Capcom, I'm surprise to hear this from Ono. "Sigh", well one can dream I guess, one can...
@33
yeah right, I'd play sagat in vanilla if ssf4 was a failure in game balance
@1
you should read the first sentence of this notice..
LOL u have to love how he dodged the diago question(the one about the game being too defensive). Ono knows deep down that diago is right and and instead of him makeing the adjustments he left it alone to keep the game turtle/noob friendly.
16 is telling the truth even if it does put more work on an organizers table, but you have to remember you split the online community when you add characters. You will find less matches because some people won't have the character you want to play. I'm not saying I don't want more, but I am saying the game already has a huge cast with some similar playstyles. No matter how you swing it unless you start bringing in new characters you are gonna see some more similar styles showing up again. I consider it more of a fanservice thing than a needed addition at this point. I'll take the solid game as it is for now.
@8
we have 35 character. Theres no need for more characters. WOrk on balance so that all of them(except dan) become tournament worthy. Look at hdr, u see every character in high level play, now compare that to sf4 where out of 25 u see maybe 10. Adding new characters does nothing but give someone an extra slot to pass over on there way to ryu/sagat or whoever is top tier. If ur gonna add a fan favorite they most be competitive other wise puting someone like karin or r mika in the game is not but fan service and does nothing for gameplay.
@#21 You sir are exactly correct.
Rumor is already out about MvC3 & its from the guy who leaked "THEE ENTIRE" ssf4 character list.
Capcoms advisor Seth.K said that capcom is debating the next sf4 or 5 , a debate doesnt last 2 days in the game making company so dont take what Ono said too heart.
However "DO" take too heart that Seth said that the company is ready to move in diffrent directions with their fighting genre's. (MvC , CvS , TvC , Darkstalkers etc.)
That ladies and gentlemen is what i think capcoms plan is from now too 2012...
SF3 3rd strike hd remix (2010)
Capcom vs snk 2 psn/xbox live (2010)
Darkstalkers 4 (2010)
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (2010-2011)
Capcom vs Snk 3 (2011)
Street Fighter 5 (2012)
Not a bad guess huh , but quite obvious once you put the pieces together ._.
Keeping adding content to the game until 5 then. Downloadable characters and balance tweaks are a must. Put Elena in, too.
Thank God. Just give us DLC patches to add content and balance the game.
P.S., Live Stream as we speak:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/gamesra...
If they do make SF5 I hope they continue the storyline instead of these random prequel setups. I mean other than SF3rd strike, I want to see where it heads off
A couple of things. I'm a bit dissapointed Ono said he didn't want to appeal to just the hardcore players but I guess he has to sell out to make a profit.
Secondly, the gap between SF games tends to be lengthy, I fear I may be too old or lose interest in SF by the time SF5 comes out.
SF5 sounds nice. too bad there are no (concrete) plans for it just rumors. a Darkstalkers game sounds real good. also i recall Ono does have desire to work on it. who knows maybe we'll see it somewhere. i dont mind at all paying for DLC. that'll keep the game alive (also it can patch up a glitch or two) im still rootin for elena to make a comeback, but i just dont see it happening. all i know is...dictator's dead lol (akuma killed him sweet huh) so he should not make an apperance in another SF game. guess we'll have to wait & see what the future of SF holds. also the future of a possible Darkstalkers game. peace :)
@5
Street Fighter IV was a long shot because of how pathetic SF3 was. It cost Capcom lots of dough and the reason for the 10 year drought. Most thought it didn't even feel like SF, thus the return of the original cast and Shadoloo (Bison coming back from the dead along with it). SFIV sold more than the last 3 combined. SF6 Turbo would probably already be out now if SF3 wasnt such a huge failure. Of course Capcom wouldn't admit that, theyd just say something like it was the perfect fighter that couldn't be improved.
@#51
Yes, commercially, SF3 was pretty much a failure compared to SF2 and SFA. But I disagree it is the reason for the drought. It may have been the starting point, but the actual reason is the poor quality of what came after that: lack of visual consistency in MvC2 and CvS2 (reusing sprites from games with different art direction), the failure of Capcom Fighting All-Stars, and, of course, Capcom Fighting Evolution.
And also, in a way, SFEX. Not that it was a bad game, but it wasn't as visually impressive as other 3D fighters of the same era. In short, it was the first step of a 2D fighter in 3D land, and because it wasn't particularly good, people went to the conclusion that 2D fighting lost to 3D fighting.
All the comments about DLC in posts #8 and #28 are stupid. DLC's for the most part must be made during development on the main game to ensure that there is still interest in the DLC, no point releasing DLC in 1 or 2 years time when no one cares anymore. It is not feasible to begin work on DLC after game release generally. There is nothing wrong with having to pay for an unlock code, even if the content for costumes is already on the disk, you just have to move away from the thinking that you own everything on the disk. You don't have the right to everything that is out there for the game and cry about not getting it just because that extra content exists and costs money. Ask yourself this: Is SSF4 worth the $40 minus the costumes or future DLC? If not then don't buy it if you don't think its worth your money. BUT FFS stop with the crying and whining and whingeing and moaning, its seems that all you so called fans do
Expectation will be way too high! So Ono's probably thinking 'screw making another version with all those whiney mongos out there'. They'll just bitch about everything and want Guile changed haha
ssf4 is not out and people taking about sf5...lol soo much ignorance
ssf4 will be played for years to come like sf2,3rd,mvc2
Bullsh*t as always.
There were no plans for arcade release, yeah, sure.
There were no plans for PC-version as well, yeah, sure.
And prolly there were no plans regarding MvC3, but according to that super-leaker guy - we gonna see press release that may.
And there is always no intention to do something before you'll see the results of your previous work.
My guess - if SSFIV gonna sell well then we will see new incarnation of it in no time.
Because "2" isnt even a number for ultras quantity.
@jdigitalseven: Actually, the SFIII series was a commercial failure because of these Street Fighter II Die-hard fans that called themself "Street Fighter's fans" and they not accepted the innovation of the game at that time.
Also, 3rd Strike for example is not a fighting game that is really easy to get into it. Because you HAVE to practice every move carefully if you plan to play the game in tournaments and the like.
So yeah... the game was to awesome for gamers to begin with (and still is IMO).
@soundwavebutcher
Tbh i doubt it. Sf4 is geting burn right now cause its new but over time it wont have that suuport that sf2 has. Look at the alpha series, very good games but nobody even thinks about them any more.
@62 They'd be taking stuff out of SF4 if they do that , it wouldnt be a "TRUE" SF sequel , because they always remake the fighting. (Which i love ^_^) not like Tekken bs... -_-
Ima hope for UltraStreetFighterIV within 3 years.
Then 5 years after for SF5.
:( no more SF?? I was hoping they will keep it alive for a long time with new characters and innovations every game, considering their success with SFIV,, Hmmm.. SFV maybe??
