ShackNews.com added a new preview of Super Street Fighter 4's multiplayer options. This article starts off with some things you've read before, but it also delves into other online aspects available to players. The Replay Channel is great, automatically storing recent matches locally. Players can choose which replays to save permanently to storage and watch at any time. Fulfill certain conditions (win 3 games in a row, etc.) and you'll be able to upload your replay to the community to be viewed at large.
Replays can be shown to a party of up to 8 players. The host can toggle attack and input data as well as skip back and forth between different rounds within a fight or restart the replay completely. Voice chat is enabled throughout. Had a great fight that you want to show your buddies? This is easier than ever.
Though the netcode hasn't changed, you should find more low-latency games as the matchmaking and custom game browser should better prioritize location for game selection. As such, you should see more "five green bars" games online in Super Street Fighter IV.
Bugger, I spoke too soon.
I thought there were videos of multiplayer being demo'd.
With all the stats, pre-fight screen with win rates/percentage/nationality etc.
bleh :)
I wonder how good the 5 bars are gonna be though for SSF4 because whenever I got them in SF4 it would still lag so I'm not so convinced.
I always had bad experiences online with SF4. Hope goes out to SSF4 for a good online match for me.
@ 16
yes...
@ 9
i hope they do bring back champ mode, cause thats where all the good players separate from the scrubs...
i live in Puerto Rico and i get good non lag fights and its an Island 100x35 milles rarely i see green bars
#23,
My read on it is more or less, yes to IP addresses / hostnames.
When you connect, it looks at your connection to determine a country flag icon.
From there it will categorize for the matchmaking, etc.
team battle should be fun. cant wait to take out a whole clan of clowns with matching gamertags single-handedly
does anyone know how the character selection will work in team play mode? I really hope they dont allow more then one player per character, 4 vs 4 shouldnt consist of 8 freaking ryus. They could always use the point ranking and give the person with more points first pick at the character. With a cast of 35 everyone should be able to play atleast 2 characters.
SnakeEyez: "I'm a little disappointed that the netcode won't be optimized. 3 bars and up in vanilla was pretty good but I've seen way too many 2 bars and under and that is just a lag fest."
Red means "stop." No matter what Capcom does, many connections between players are of unsuitable speed or stability; that isn't a question of "netcode," but a simple reality of the Internet. The graph is there so you can recognize those and not play them. I would never bother with a match where less than three bars were showing, and typically only do yellow or green matches.
We should never expect a game where it tells you that you have a bad connection with someone and then magically makes it into a good one. But at least SFIV seems to give a pretty accurate reading of the connection speed at the time it is polled.
@ Rocky
Lame excuse :P and you'll be spending more than 40 bucks if you're going to play alot at the arcades (that is,if you can find any arcade with SSF4).
Maybe you should win more fights,so you'll have the cash to buy SSF4 when it hits.GO FOR BROKE!
Ontopic:
I'm also getting impatient..gimme SSF4..and let's see if we can do something about my boredom!
Once i played a 1 bar connetion, guy was from massachusetts,
connection was perpect.
There are also people, ive played that have green bars with perfect connections and other times same person yellow bars, but experience input delay and all the other stuff.
Searced for a match once and found my own name with green bars:) and lastly love the new replay stuff.

You don't have $40 but can spend an infinite amount of quarters in the arcade?

This happens because the connections you are making are not stable. The game can only tell you how the connection is at the time that it is checked. It can not provide a long-term evaluation of a connection's stability when you have only just made it. No game will ever be able to do that.
There is a chance a red connection was only dropping out at that moment it was checked and will never do so again; there is a chance a green connection was only speedy at that moment and will never be so again. But those things are extremely unlikely. They should not be taken as reasons to frequently ignore the indicators the game has given you.
The best thing about this aspect of online Street Fighter IV is the huge community of players. Even if I only accept challenges from those with green connections, I still fight so many online challengers that it would take me three hours to get to the end of an Arcade Mode. Because there are so many opponents available, most of the time it is not really necessary to play against people to whom one has a poor connection anyway.
You complain about lag when you join a red bar connection you already know what your getting your self into red means laggy but not all the time im justing say don't join low bar connections if you don't want lag you feel me ?
What are the odds that everybody in an Endless battle will all have good connections with each other? I think some of the matches are destined to lag.
It's a fun concept, though.
@ Rocky - get a job. You can't afford the arcade either anyway. But I am sure you are so good and have been crushing everyone in offline tourneys. You are just too good for the netcode.
@ Tomiwa11 - The reason for endless battle mode is have fun especially since its you know a game... Its the equivalent of the player match in SF4 with room for 8 people. Besides the real question should be "Why do you care so much about your BP?"
I just want play and watch my friends play and talk s--t while they play lol
I really want the online of SF4 to rival that of blazblue, no crush it. I get enough smack talk bout them saying how much blazblue is better than SF4 -_-
I've been playing SF4 since the day it came out and I've only seen & played a 5 green bar battle once. I messaged the guy and told him it was my 1st (lol) and he replied by saying he got a new 20MB broadband. I'm from London and connection with European players is pretty much 3bars and above, east coast US is decent, west coast is a no go and the rest of the world 1 red bar.
Whenever i play any of my friends who only live a couple roads away online i see 4 yellow bars, and even then sometimes it lags... -_-
@ChessDragon/#43:
That's why I hate lobbies. The HDR experience taught me that we're always going to run into that problem.
Still, Ranked mode sounds great this time around, as it appears Capcom fixed a number of the problems with the SF4 version. I expect that I'll be spending most of my time playing Ranked.
@Ztv #38
the only game that doesnt allow that is Modern Warfare 2 for certain modes. every other game utilizes that feature to the fullest, i see no reason why SSFIV wouldnt
LOL! You MUST be joking?! Yellow 4 bar connections lag sometimes, how about they fix the damn netcode!!
can't wait for Team Battle mode!
