AndriaSang.com translated part of the latest Nakky blog on the Japanese SSF4 site, and there's an interesting quote from her about the status of the arcade release of Super Street Fighter 4. It reads:
Now that Super SFIV's arcade conversion has been set, development can at last start. Will there be tuning? Will there be additional characters? When will it hit arcades? Nothing has been decided yet.
This may be much ado about nothing, as these are simply things that Capcom is considering and may not make it into the arcade release, but the possibility of tweaking some of the fighters, or adding new characters is potentially big news.
If some of these things do make their way into the arcade release, it should be interesting to see if Capcom rolls them out to the console version via DLC or some other means.
Shiozawa also notes that the arcade release will not coincide with the console version. Early rumors from the community have placed the release date in the summer of 2010.
And finally, Tomoaki Ayano will be taking over the Nakky blog after SSF4's release in late April. He's working on the arcade version of the game and should have some interesting things to say as that product is developed.
oh yea!
imagine hauling their ass up with a hook and crane in glorious 3d, rolling around the place hurling grenades and slapping ibuki down with the pimp stick.
hell yes!
maybe sf ex characters making an appearance for once? lol
Ugh. If they add new characters for the arcade release, that means there will probably be ANOTHER console release after that, unless Capcom does the right thing and just updates everybody's version through an online patch. But somehow I don't see that happening.
I just want the Game to be out so I can kick ass with vega 20 days left!!!
#16/J,
Why would americans care about arcade content being played in Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, UK, New Zealand, when youve got xbox live? :)
@17 theres no way new characters would be free for download
I would be surprised if there are any new characters in the arcade release. Even then, I would be shocked if any such "new" characters were anyone but Evil Ryu/Shin Akuma/"Ultra" Seth.
New characters for the arcade release of Super SF4... You know I've always wanted to see a character based on Quinton Rampage Jackson.
As long as it's not Elena or R.Mika, I don't care.
Although it would probably be at least one of them... :'(
considering comments by S.K and Y.Ono, if arcade version will have new characters.. will be Elena and R.Mika :)
Rolento have great chances to be there too :)
Hope they somehow add Elena since the Africa levels are already there and all, and Rolento for the Metro city building level. :)
@ 34
Maybe people prefer this site because they can't stand your damned elitism?
I really doubt they will add new characters, unless Capcom was trying to add more than 10 to the console version, and a few slightly unfinished characters are lying around, but considering how the arcade version is going to come out only 3-4 months after the console version doesnt give them enough time, when we got Cammy and Fei Long for the console version of SFIV, they had an extra 8 months to add to the game...but, perhaps I am wrong.
ahhh.. just one question. If they added a character again for the arcades and consoles, how would they balance out the game again, in relation to the other 35 characters already in the game. It would be hard just adding one character, for balance purposes, let alone a few more characters.... and considering an arcade version will possibly be just around the corner after the console release, I wouldn't be surprised if all they added was a few extra stages and possible extra costumes as DLC in the near future. However, we can always wait another year for another release.... for SSFIV:turbo, lol!
Rolento from Final Fight
Karin from SF Alpha
Elena from SF3.3
and Angent Quincy from my imagination:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/kaiwai/bl...
It's just me, or people just want a new SFIII? Anyways, more Alpha characters would be cool... But at this point, I don't care I just want the damn game.
:(
I think what they are talking about is not adding characters to the playable roster but more along the lines of secret boss characters to fight. "Don't lose a round and super/ultra finish every round and you'll fight Shin Akuma." But that's just a hunch.
If they add new playable characters to arcade version of the game, wouldn't that be unfair to the console version of the game? Secondly, wouldn't they have to rebalance the game again in order to fit everyone? Thirdly, doesn't Ono frown upon the idea of DLCing characters into an existing fighter.
Don't get me wrong, if they came out with a DLC pack with Yun, Yang, Rolento, Urien, Karin, R. Mika, Elena, or any other of the infinite possibilities from the SF Universe. I'd shell out the cash in order to get them, as long as it was reasonably priced. But I'm also afraid that if they did DLC characters, Super SF4 would catch the MvC2 disease. 50+ characters and 2/3 of the roster is useless.
btw, is it wrong to taunt the opponent when they have 55,000GP and i only have 15,000?
i feel so.. unclean.
PC Version first!! hmm wait....maybe not....I can wait for new chars to be added first...PC Version last!!!
@ 58
In order to maintain balance, they would be free. If they charged you for a character and not everyone buys it, it would create a certain unbalance, since a lot of people would have no idea how to handle that 1 character...and it seems like they're shooting for balance...
#56/@MrTanooki,
GP matters.
Just ask shizza, starnab or sinokin!
akira or some other cool character from rival schools would be SOOOO epic
sounds like rumors to me. i would like to see elena make a comeback but im not holdin my breath. same goes for any character. i just dont see capcom givin/sellin characters via download. they should have been there from the beginning. im not hopin for any characters via download. costums that i can belive. stages possibly. peace :)
ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!! ALEX!!
How is the main character of SF3 not in SF4?!!?! What the hell!!! imagine seeing a hyperbomb in SF4 that would be AWESOME!!!
So we are offically playing the beta LOL. O well. So i guess the arcade verison will be super street fighter 4 champion edition(assuming they add new characters). They might honestly keep them exclusive to the arcades, that might give arcade operaters more incentive to get it since people cant use those characters at home.
Oh sooo they'd add more stuff to the arcade but simple animated stories couldnt be done??? I aint hatin or nothin I just hope consoles and...PC!!!! gets the same love
Damn, I hope it isn't another chance for Elena to make it in. She is by far the most annoying crap fighter I have seen in any SF game. Mika I can deal with, Rolento I will worship, Karin will be pretty cool, but Elena will just be another hassle to deal with, sure I could always kick her a$$ no prob, but she's just so damn annoying.
That's why they probably took out the animated intros and ending to make an arcade version im just saying throw charlie in thier
Rolento, Elena, R. Mika, and Alex. YOU CAN DO IT CAPCOM I BELIEVE IN YOU!
So i guess people will start makeing predictions. I say it will be from 2-5 new characters. r mike and rolento are almost a given, then after that maybe charlie and someone else from sf3 like hugo or maybe alex. I really dont see them bringing characters like q since there just too wierd looking, plus capcom used alex in tvc and hugo is in the background in 4 so its not like they dont have them in mind. I bet some of the work is already done on a few extra characters, like deejay and thawk in regular 4. Maybe thats why there droping little hints.
It would be awesome to have Hugo and Alex, that way we can see an awesome rival scene where toward the end they do that staredown! ITS THE F@#$@KIN STAREDOWN!!!! WE ALL WANT THE STAREDOWN!!! >.<!!!
iam a bit miffed on this i whould love to see a arcade relase but i dont go to arcades as i stay in scotland and we monkeys dont get good arcades here so it whould be pretty gutting if they released new characters and tuning after the console version comes out ill be like damn now i need to buy an arcade machine lol
Good and bad news...
Bad news :
This game will be expansive if you want to buy new costumes, new charcacters but that's the next-gen console statement : new games are developped for buying add-on content...
Good news :
Everything is possible ! Capcom will do vote for new chars...
Everybody knows Charlie will be added, he's the top favorite fighter.
i cant wait for super street fighter 4 turbo the new challenger with garuda r mika rolento q elena skullomania shaddowgeist alex geki birdie evil ryu and shin akuma but as boss characters cuz nobody would choose ryu and akuma anymore and sodom this will be great :)
I didn't know where to post this (a button to suggest a news would be great :)) but this guy does an amazing work with his alternates costumes suggestions :

(end of the page)
If they were going to release new characters it would be Elena and Rolento since their concept arts and designs already have been somewhat complete. They were the two closest characters to make the cut to the roster so it's more than likely it would be them two if they decide to add new characters.
IF they add any new characters, I would imagine it would be something easir and quickier to do, like Evil Ryu. They'ld be able to use most of Ryu's animation and with just a change or two, make a new character.
Plus, Evil Ryu is a character that people constantly ask for. So it works for everybody: SSF4 arcade gets a new char, Capcom gets to add a char with little trouble, and fans get a character they were asking for. Win-win situation.
Course I would preffer someone different, but that would be much more difficult.
Time for Elena. Seriously. Probably the #1 most wanted character now that Dudley is in the game. Bring back Elena, Capcom!
roughly 20 days to go.
this wait is going to kill me! :(
This would be great news and also a way to test, tweak, and balance any new characters in the arcade before a dlc download.
Now the tournament purists have NOTHING to complain about in regard to new, unbalanced characters.
If ANYONE says new characters are a bad idea now they are just being stubborn.
GIVE US ELENA.
ELENA
ELENA
ELENA
ELENA!
@104,
Correct.
It's part of a wider strategy to try and gain a foothold into the Japanese console market.
@105
Why?
Who do you like and why?
Back up your argument or don't post.
If you want people to listen to your ideas don't insult them you convince them why they are valid.
Im all for old characters, especially ELENA but honestly I always welcome new ones over old chars.
If they had to do 3 pick elena karin and rolento as they are the most popular
Why would Capcom create new characters for the arcade release and then NOT make them available for console users to purchase as DLC?
Everyone is saying that they'd have to be free for balance issues, buy Capcom could simply roll out the new characters to everyone as DLC and then charge you to make them playable.
It's the same as the alternate costumes. You can play against people who have purchased them, but you can't use them yourself until you buy them.
Simple as that. I'd pay money for new characters.
Despite this likely being a big tease by Nakky I'm desperately hoping that Capcom adds Q to SSFIV.
I will only think this is a good idea, IF they consider making that new character DLC for people who own the game at home. Otherwise........dumb, cuz unless you're sick at SSF4, if someone wants to play, and they play against you and you happen to loose, you won't have the chance to spend more time training with the new character.
And thats just lame.
yes, japan will get new characters they will be cammy rose sakura gen fei long dan gouken as they rejected them for so long now we'll see the true potential of these fighters
Yeah I agree SmoothJK.
As it stands Super SF4 is perfection at the moment.
Learning 35 matchups thoroughly is going to take literally months, if not years.
Characters I'd like to see, not like anyone cares:
-Charlie
-R.Mika
-Karin
-Ingrid
-Rolento
-Maki
-the two unused Capcom All-Stars characters
-Anyone from EX, literally anyone.
@126
And why exactly would Q lose his defense taunt if added to the game? Theirs nothing about the game or it's engine that suggests it wouldn't be possible.
If Q was to be added to Super or the next version of IV his taunt would be a no-brainer.
Q is to taunt as Ryu is to Hadoken.
Whats with all of this talk from people about NOT wanting new characters? Thats crazy!
NEW CHARACTER DEBATE: ARGUMENTS AND ANSWERS:
argument 1.)
New DLC characters would be broken due to no testing/tweaking/balancing.
answer:
Not if they are tested in the arcade first. With new arcade machines coming, this is a strong possibility. Sega did it with VF.
argument 2.)
Capcom shouldn't add new characters because it will take too long to learn match ups.
answer:
So what? Don't you want a challenge? Isn't that why you play the game? So it will take a little longer. That's part of the fun. If you invest the time, you will be prepared.
argument 3.)
The game has enough characters already.
answer:
What? really? You DON'T want MORE game to play? You want to get bored faster and move on to the next game more quickly? Ok . . . go ahead.
I don't know about you but I remember when SFII was in Seven Eleven (yes I'm that old) so you can't blame me for being a little tired of the vanilla cast after 20 F***king years!!! Some people out there don't want to do hadokens forever and enjoy the variety, diversity, and longevity that new characters bring to the game. Elena, R. Mika,Q, Rose, Hakkan, and Abel are good examples of this.
argument 4.)
DLC should be free.
answer:
You are right but ONLY if that DLC was created DURING the development of the game. If the DLC is already on the disc and is unlocked via a code, then the consumer (you) is being charged an additional fee to enjoy property that you already own. This is a despicable business practice and I don't endorse it.
If its created AFTER the game comes out, or by a separate team working parallel to the main development team, then they absolutely deserve to be paid for it. Creating additional content after the release of a game costs Capcom time, time is money, and development is very expensive. Industry artists get paid in peanuts as it is (I'm a 2d & 3d artist; Maya, GSI, ZBrush, Adobe, etc.)and deserve to be able to feed their families.
You don't deserve anything for free from Capcom if they release it AFTER SSF4 comes out. If you get it, please appreciate it.
The fact is that this is a business decision. Capcom's primary concern is making money. If Capcom can make money releasing DLC, you better believe they will. As much as most of you complain out there, most of you will buy it if they make it, regardless if it adds to the game or screws it up. This is all about $$$. Remember that.
Ok, well alough this is all based on facts, it is still my opinion, and I am a human being that is capable of being wrong, so if you notice something that I posted that you feel is incorrect, please let me know!
I'm for Elena and hope she's in it!!! I would love my Elena back in the Onegai Capcom Bring us Elena
Also not to disappoint anyone, the EX characters belong to Arika who now no longer works with or for Capcom. It would be nice, however, it could be challenging to get EX characters without Arika Nishi-tani's permission.
I'm for Elena. Bring Capcom
Nippon Ichi!!!! Yos yos me encanta esta mujer!!!! ;^D
@136
I agree with you and you have great arguements and support =^D
It makes sense at everything you said =^D
damn,we getting 10 new characters in ssf4 and still people want more stupid fighters
i can see charlie and other seth with different move set but thats enough, too many people
remember alpha and beta from sf ex 1 something like that
ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ELENA ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX ALEX Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO ORO HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR HAGGAR
I know a person that made an excellent concept theme for Elena if she were to be put in SSF4. Where do I go to contact Capcom?
@139
It's clear that your selfish expectations fails to grasp the logic behind DLC characters. Speak for yourself and don't ruin it for everybody. Idiot.
@34
Elitist scum. Eventhubs is a news relay. Any SF news runs through the members here incase they don't reach them otherwise. Full credit is given to the sources too.
Personally, what I'd be excited for would be the tweaks they'd be able to do to the game's balance with this technology. The whole reason they are making SSF4 was because they were getting balance complaints up to their necks, so if there are any issues with SSF4, all it would take is some time to make it, test it and patch it.
1. A tie between Q and Hugo
2. Elena
3. Eagle
4.Birdie
5. Yun/Yang
this is mah dream lsit.
Nakky is a tease.
And awesome.
I hope they do it to it.
