Capcom's Christian Svensson offered a few nuggets of information recently on the Unity Boards. He states that the company's focus for the "near term" is on Super Street Fighter 4, but it sounds like they have future plans for the Street Fighter franchise.Now, I know you get A LOT of questions regarding Street Fighter 3 Third Strike on PSN and XBLA, and the answer is always the same, "Nothing to talk about regarding this front. Sorry, guys." My question for you is this, it seems you are well aware of the demand for Third Strike via PSN and XBLA, so why not do it? — Jerry
Sven: Oh, I could write a book here but that would probably get me in hot water. Let's just say all focus as far as Street Fighter is concerned is on Super Street Fighter IV for the reasonably near term.
Have you seen all of the support in the community for Super Street Fighter 4 on the PC? Is this going to happen?
Sven: I'm definitely aware of the interest and I'd like to see it happen myself. That said, I have no news to share on any project of that nature. :(
I found out that as of April 1 there will be no more Capcom games available for Gametap. Why is this? — Ben
Sven: I can confirm this but also need to clarify the situation. Not ALL Capcom titles are being removed, only classic arcade titles controlled by Capcom Japan. Capcom Entertainment titles (Street Fighter/Final Fight, etc.) will remain on the service as will all current PC releases from both Japan and CEI (Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet Colonies, Dark Void, MotoGP, etc.).
The reason for the change is that the contract has expired (I believe it was a five year contract) and Japan has opted not to extend it. I can't give any more detail than that.
I bought the Shoryuken SF4 costume pack for $4 on the PSN and now I can't get the discount bundle? I can't even buy the bundle for the original $12. That is just stupid.
Sven: This is not within our control. This is a PlayStation Network "way things work". I suspect it's to avoid the possibility of buying content they already own though I agree, it's not the best mechanism.
Another manifestation of the same mechanism... if you own any one of our downloadable games, you can't buy our "super pack" bundle that includes ten games at a bargain price.
Just the way it is.
Are you guys going to bundle SSF4 with FightSticks on the Capcom store?
Sven: Stay tuned. Darin is working on putting together something in our store to do exactly this... save you a few bucks (not a ton, but better than a kick in the teeth) versus buying separately.
Is the gym bag with the Dojo Edition of SSF4 large enough to hold a Tournament Edition FightStick?
Darin: The Dojo Edition gym bag is indeed large enough to hold a TE FightStick. It's about 18" long by 10" tall by 6" wide.
Wait this might hint at bigger things!
Think about it; If SSF4 is the primary near term focus that means that:
a.) They wont delay another game in the series (like they previously mentioned)and we can expect a new one this time next year. SSF4 Turbo?
b.) More DLC support. New stages! New characters! (Elena please) and yes, extra characters can be done.
c.) A similar 2.5d game like a new Darkstalkers.
This is good news everyone.
I'm almost positive there will be a PC version, companies are frequently like this about ports. Zipped lips for a long time, and it comes out much later... my guess is it's because of piracy. If they put the PC version out at the same time as the XBox 360 and PS3 versions, all three would be competing with torrents. But by putting out the PC version half a year on, when the majority of the sales have been made, they minimize the risk and still make some extra money.
@HarkMammil
I am pretty sure they said they were gonna take a break from street fighter for a while after this, so I wouldn't kee my hopes up for aanother street fighter next year
"My question for you is this, it seems you are well aware of the demand for Third Strike via PSN and XBLA, so why not do it?"
Fans are well aware that Street Fighter III was never popular and that Capcom would put a version of it up for download quickly if they believed it had a chance of making back the costs required to do so, so why keep asking?
@MIRACLEfool
Your probably right but $$$$ dictates those decisions ultimately. We can hope.
I dont want to see any dlc characters. We already have 35, the only dlc outside of that should be balance patchs, bug fixs, net play fixs etc. Capcom is really screwed with any type of dlc for sf, spliting the communtiy is not a good idea for a nich game like sf.
@chickenwings
If they can offer DLC characters and one needs tweaking due to bugs or exploits, they can patch it. Thats what updates are for. There is ALWAYS room for more characters.
At the very least a few more stages would be nice . . .
I seriously think PC will come later, but I dont know about over a full year this time, maybe 6-8 months. Sucks but I can understand the wait - they want to maximize console sales.
I will preorder/buy it on PC ASAP.
They don't want to release or speak of another SF game until well after the sales of SSF4 slow down, it's just good marketing. If they released SF3TS shortly after perhaps less people would buy the new game they've been working on and spending millions of dollars to develop for the past 6 months.
@Jarv: My thoughts exactly. At this point we don't really need more of the SFIV series now (or in the future). I mean, Super has A LOT of content to keep people busy for a long LONG time and the game is not expensive.
But I'll be no surprise to see a "Super Street Fighter IV Turbo" either, but still, is unlikely (also, I have to save money for other games, the world doesn't move around Street Fighter).
And I'll be supporting to see 3rd Strike in PSN/XBLA, Capcom just has to do something similar to the MvC2 release and everyone is happy.
Also, CHANCE THE BOX ART FOR SSFIV CAPCOM!! :V
@18
No there isnt always room for more characters. We have 35 already, sf4 needs to work on balance, not adding characters till it turns into marvel. Balanceing honestly adds more characters, when u think about it regular sf4 had a slow cast sense alot of characters werent even worth the time to learn since they were under developed. Geting the bulk of the 35 character cast tourney worthy should be capcoms proirty.
I couldn't care less if a Windows (PC) version came out.
@chikenwings
The question about if there is room or not for dlc characters is not the point. Its a matter of the production time and cost vs. Profit. Technically it CAN be done and if its profitable I hope it will be done. Capcoms priority is not to get characters balanced, it is to make money, and whether you would buy an new character or not, 60,000 other people would. That is what Capcom will be considering.
Don't get me wrong, as a player I agree with you. There is nothing worse than a broken, unbalanced character that any scrub can use (remember sf2 turbo? Akuma was a nightmare). But as a fan, I would love to see new characters. Like I said, they can be balanced later.
at the very least new dlc stages would be nice don't you think?
@Ex_Ein
How did you find out about extra stages that were cut? Just curious . . .
SF3 3rd S would be cool for PSN. i enjoy d soundtrack plus its always fun usin elena. still in the end Capcom should focus on SSF4 & makin sure its top quaility. DLC for new characters can be done but risky if d character is not properly balanced. still lookin foward to SSF4 so i can give it a good playthrough. see y'all in d arena. peace :)
3S on PSN would be nice though.
