Also, there's two more videos of this being done with Dhalsim and Chun-Li.
I remember the developers bleating about how Super SF4 was being re-designed from the ground up.
Curious how such a specific bug made its way into a completely different codebase, huh? :)

bahaha
@ SmoothJk
the reason why the new update sucks is cuz that’s just IT! there are no changes other than removing the "install other OS" feature. besides that, they haven’t bothered with working on anything new since the last update which seemed like aeons ago. wtf?
-we need cross game chat feature
-a feature JUST LIKE XBox360 where u can listen to your own music files WHILE playing a game
-expanding the comment box so you can type a longer sentence
-cooler ID color designs, mixed colors and shades
-gif animated avatars for all existing avatars
-and more
@15: LOL, seriously?
Anyway, most characters have escape options ... as long as they have meter. And it's a one frame window, which isn't impossible but it's very very tight. Your timing/spacing just has to be dead on. Plus you have to have 2 meters to FADC the fireball. At that point there are safer setups for most characters anyway.
I mean, I still agree it should be patched but people are really blowing this out of proportion, IMO.
No doubt, I'll stick with the arcade version thankyou very much.
This is in super as well Capcom needs to patch this asap!!!
It looks cool to setup the unblockable ultra, I want to practice with Ryu.
haha no problem.
we'll do it on makoto and ibuki in particular. :)
The thing to remember about the incredibly hard 1 frame links is that there are people out there how can do it all day. Just ask the Japanese.
It looks like only Rose can really abuse this bug. Everyone else has better and safer options. Remember that it is possible to counter this and when you are FADC-ing a fireball you are basically telegraphing your intentions.
Yes, Capcom should fix this in SSF4 if they still can but I won't panic until it proves to become an issue.
^
When the ultra cutscene happens - it stops the ability to do anything (including block) for 1 frame or whatever...
oh ..
thats easily patchable.
during the last frames of the ultra, poll the controllers of both players and check if theyre holding back.
its strange though, because during the opponents ultra animations, you can buffer your own ultra.
so it is reading the inputs.. hrm.
heh
Wonder if Dan can get in on this action either with U1 or U2.
I didn't see what the big deal was at first. I just thought it was a new way to combo into Ultra, cheesier than usual but not really much more dangerous than any other FADC-Ultra deal. But then, I remembered damage scaling. Because the initial knockdown combo "ends" there, you can do your character's hardest-hitting combo, then proceed to tack on a fireball and Ultra *at full damage*. That's what makes this different, and it wouldn't surprise me if they end up banning this little trick from tournaments. I just hope lag prevents it from being done online, because otherwise, non-projectile vs. projectile matches are going to descend to a whole new level of crappy...
CAPCOM you better fix this sh*t, if i have to deal with this garbo in a tournament im going to consider to stop playing.
Did rose's one on sagat first try.
Kens was like doing one of characters hard trails took some time, but now can get 7-10 trys on Sagat.
Seth did it about three times on Gen.
Tried doing Sagat's one , but im hopeless with him.
Tried on dan few times couldn't do it(Ken's).
I think they should leave this in.
High risk with two ex bars If pulled of in match well deserved i say.
By the way i dont main Rose,Ken,Sagat or Seth.
man if daigo did this to justin to win evo 2010 i would literally laugh my ass off for weeks.
Wow.. I feel really Crappy about this glitch because I just bought a 139$ Marvel vs capcom TE only To hear about this stupid glitch. Capcom needs to fix this and banning this in tourny play won't help because people can still do it online.
I really hope this does not ruin this game >_> Guess Ill just have to wait and see how this turns out.
Damn, I'm no rose player but this sh!t is waaay easier with her. I just pulled off 5 unblockables in a row which is insane. I tried this with sagat, ken and seth and was able to do it by the 7th try or so. Extremely strict timing with the others but you can't really go wrong with rose. FIX THIS SH!T
These setups are unblockable NOT inescapable. People should realize that before crying about patches and bans.
Seriously, just don't always hold back or down after a knockdown or spend some meter for a reversal. Even backdash does it sometimes. Respect the work your opponent did when he put you into the situation. It was already said that it's hard AND costly (2 EX). Pulling these off in training a couple of times doesn't mean you'll get to use it even 2 out of 10 times IN A REAL MATCH. Especially with what people confessing to not even using these characters like #55. Seriously now..
These can become a little overpowered if used in tricky enough ways, and I do think they need to be patched eventually... but right now, it's not a big deal at all. The timing is WAY too strict, especially for online players.
This was revealed several days ago. It's not a joke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb0bkm...
Sure i want this patched, but just like the rest of the non scrubs on here i agree there are more reliable setups for the same or slightly less damage than this one frame exploitation. I dont see this being used effectively because one rose seems to be the only one capable of doing it off a reset and everyone else has to do it off a knock down and take the 50/50 chance of them Quick standing or not then do a 1 frame exploitation, I just dont see it happening much at all. I mean i know that alot of players can do 1 frame links in combos but this is different you have to judge the wakeup then do it instantly it wont happen much.
i'm a gen player and a bit confused.. my character lost his best combo (mk-hands/was my reason to buy a te stick -_-), is the only one with a no-damage-ultra (the counter ultra wich only does 'focus-block-damage') and all shotos get wake up ultras? ..am i whining?
I just don't understand how the developers would let something unavoidable like that through the QA process. If this pans out to be a big part of play (which by the looks of it it obviously will be), especially in tournament play, it will be a black eye to the game just like roll canceling was.
Balance the game as muh as you want but if someone can pull out an unblockable full ultra to win when he is miles behind, no matter how you look at it is still messed up.
This isn't supposed to be in the game but I realize now it's nothing to worry about and it's getting too much buz really. Anyone that thinks this is a problem should go ahead and try to use it in matches frequently, you will stop after realizing how much ex ultra and life (from punish) you're wasting.
Throwryuken, again, those setups are totally NOT unavoidable. You can reversal or in some cases backdash out. Pretty much anything that gives i-frames gets you out of the situation.
Saying that you're downplaying the work QA does. It's not like they can just look stuff with "let's check our list of all the stuff that's unavoidable in the game". No, this was discovered just DAYS ago with MILLIONS of players playing the game for almost TWO YEARS(I included Japanese arcade time). Some things just couldn't have been seen back in the development phase.
Like it has already been said, this technique has a lot of downsides:
- Costs at least 2 EX bars and your Ultra
- hard to space, most need a knockdown(which is hard to get by itself sometimes) to setup
- frame-strict timing
- damage that can be gotten in other ways more reliably
- opponent has various ways to escape forcing YOU to do the guesswork
Glad an escape video was posted. Hopefully people will calm down a bit and stop complaining.
lol @ everyone that thinks its an April fools joke or think its a cross up, etc. xD its quite fun to pull of in a match.
I did it yesterday to a friend in an online game with Seth. we both were LOLing hard xD.
Though, it worked the 3rd time, I missed my first couple of tries :P, but it wasn't like I was training on it all day long, i've tried it like 10 minutes in training.
But I think it should be patched, coz it would be unfair to characters with no fireballs that want to get advantage of this.
would be nice if someone from Capcom can address this already.
Kurdijef, I agree with you that blaming QA is not fair. I should not have put it on them like that. But I do still believe that it is still unfair and should be patched out.
using 2ex bars and an ultra is not a downside because I you can pull it off it is more than a fair trade every single time. Anyone would give up an ultra and 2ex bars for an unblockable ultra.
Timing and spacing can be learned and even turned into a habit.
I do agree that there are more reliable ways to put out damage but at the end of the day something that is unbloackable an only available to certain characters is straight up unfair. It causes everyone in high level play to use the same characters as well. Kind of like in the mvc1 days tournaments were almost always the same teams. Mirror matches blow lol.
Anyway I guess i'm just venting and would like to see the game as balanced as possible.
@88
It is not, people don't get that its easy to avoid, plus if you beat someone enough for them to have ultra you got some ex bars to escape or even punish him hard....
These are cool and all but you have to be in like the perfect conditions for this to work out.
@ 89 It does not matter whether its easy to avoid or hard to pull off...The time yes it is very strict but in the end you are exploiting by using it. It just should not be there. The game is not functioning as it should. The ultra flash should not make players not able to block when the ultra flash is up during wake up...end of story
@88 it bad because with a combo into a ultra..the ultra is affected by damage scaling. With the unblockable you can do a stupid damaging combo which ends with someone being knocked down..the player techs it and you pull off the unblockable glitch not giving them a fighting chance? its bad. Yes I have watched the video escape video. Even with this...a player should not have to waste an ex bar to escape it.
Take a look at the second showing of the unblockable ultra setup for Sagat.
<.< Sagat dropped his much safer, guaranteed FADC combo into ultra for a punishable/avoidable "unblockable" ultra set-up that burns yet another one of his ex-meters. Total tournament material.
@#96/resource:
There are no "crossup projectiles" in SF4/SSF4. The issue is that the ultra startup animation/"freeze"/"scared face" automatically nullifies blocking for one frame. If the ultra animation is timed to coincide with the time the fireball hits the opponent, therefore, the fireball becomes unblockable (and can be comboed into an ultra).
The most straightforward way of patching this exploit is to address the issue of not being able to block during the ultra startup animation.
You're absolutely correct that this is a meaningful exploit, however, in that it is incredibly powerful for the characters who can perform this: every fireball character with a non-throw, non-fireball ultra, and Seth in particular (as he doesn't need to spend EX meter to set this up).
Things to keep in mind:
1) Escapes can be baited and punished with Ultra -- for example, in every one of the scenarios presented, Seth can simply delay his ultra to punish the opponent's counter, and he doesn't lose anything to set it up.
2) The execution barrier is high for this technique, but that didn't stop roll-cancels in CVS2 or the like. Unless this is patched, we'll certainly see it become a dominant (or at least popular) strategy on the tournament scene.
Psycho, but you can block them normally. There's only one frame you can't and when quick standing up your opponent needs to know exactly which frame it is that you press down to quick-stand. It's easy to practice 1-frame links by yourself but this is a beyond stupid gamble in real matches because of thee following quote from SRK:
"Roski is correct. The dummy always tech rolls at the earliest possible moment (frame 1). The tech roll setups would be extremely unstable against human opponents, because human players can vary tech roll timings. All it takes is a one-frame disparity, and the whole tech roll unblockable setup is destroyed." by DBC.
All this does right now is bring a new tool to the game. You can't cry foul after a few days of half-assed testing. It should be properly tested competitively first. Then you can judge. I really don't see how this would break the game though with all that we already know.
It's escapable
It should be patched regardless if it is escapable or not.
Charge characters, and other characters who can't set up their Ultras very well or at all don't have these options
It easily (once again) puts fireball characters at a extreme advantage
If fireball/command characters keep getting more options it's like using characters who fight with a shotgun, magnum, Uzi, and a Machine gun all at the same time (options). It's easy analogy.
Over half the setups shown in the video above has the dummies quick-standing. I'm not saying untechable knockdowns are rare, but the frame discrepancy takes away a lot of these setups' usefulness. All that remains are sweeps and throws really.
NightmareBooster put up nice counter-arguments though, Seth might have it too good. Let's see how this turns out.
hey E hubs put this vid up. Its counters to unblockable ultras
wow scary stuff. still i wouldn't worry too much. this glitch was just recently discovered after bout 2 years. yes it can be a powerful weapon in capable hands, yet it requires a lot of time to at lest do it consistenly. plus the other video shows how to escape that. we cant blame QA cuz well...its impossible to catch EVERY glitch. a patch may be in order...then again it might have been alredy patched in SSF4. also dont 4get its not easy doin this online when d lag monster rears its head. still i wouldn't be surprised if this became a key tech in tourneys. no matter what everythin has its ups & downs. i know im not worried bout this amazin glitch (yes is awesome lol) cuz i know i wont see it much online. peace :)
Does this mean Dudley isn't projected to be top tier anymore?
I get why people are complaining, but how is this any worse than trade ultras?
These unblockables are risky and difficult to pull off. Trade ultras are frigging freebies.
The biggest problem people have is that it's a glitch. If they were intentional, nobody would have anything to say about them.
They're not going to change the game as drastically as everyone thinks.
Rose's one look's like the most simple-lest one to pull off..
