Capcom expects SSF4 to sell 1.1 million copies

Capcom expects SSF4 to sell 1.1 million copies

VGChatz.com is reporting that Capcom expects to sell 1.1 million copies of Super Street Fighter 4.

For comparison's sake, the original title, Street Fighter 4, sold 2.7 million copies world wide on the console machines according to the same website. 1.43 million on the PlayStation 3 and 1.27 million on the XBox 360.

Regardless, selling 1.1 million copies would definitely be a solid sales mark to hit with an upgrade, but it would be almost a 60% drop from it's predecessor — if Capcom's predictions hold up.

i really hope SSF4 sells well cause if it doesnt, they wont have any confidence in more renditions and stuff for this franchise and most likely others. right? idk im excited for this game, and thnx for the price drop Capcom!

damn cant wait for SSFIV. I think it will sell more if they add an anime movie again. I know so many people that actually bought the game for the anime

Posted by GuileMain on October 30, 2009 at 6:37 p.m. #3

Weird how they assume this estimation.

SSF4 should sell the same if not more then SF4 sold. Everyone who bought SSF4 will be buying SSF4 solely for the lobbies and spectator mode. Then there's people who want to main the new characters. Plus there's other minor stuff like story mode, new stages(not a big deal) new moves.

Yeah...I'm positive SSF4 will sell more.

Yeah i agree with dante. The anime did help SF IV to sell. If they add again a new anime it will probaply help sales. Im gonna buy it anyways

Posted by GuileMain on October 30, 2009 at 6:39 p.m. #5

Correction: Everyone who WILL buy SSF4*

hell yeah a new anime would be awesome! that was the reason i bought sf iv c.e

Posted by miaou on October 30, 2009 at 6:43 p.m. #7

well the animation was clearly the reason SF4 Collectors Edition went so well. I thin Seth Killian said smth about a new studio making the animation but will they add a new anime movie too? if they do i think that will help a lot

Posted by BISD on October 30, 2009 at 6:45 p.m. #8

"SF: The ties that bind us" was an ok movie and didnt have much action. It was more about story but i strongly believe that a new anime will push sales up. So CAPCOM if you hears JUST DO IT!

Posted by GuileMain on October 30, 2009 at 6:46 p.m. #9

Even though the Anime would help, the fact there's Lobbies and Spectator mode in SSF4, will be the main reason people buy SSF.

All you guys talking about another animation movie might be right. In the store next to my house i remember Collector's Edition were vanished from day 1 because of the movie. I like it myself and more would be welcome

Posted by 50-cent on October 30, 2009 at 6:56 p.m. #11

@GuileMain i absolutely agree with you but thats the reason that will make fans of SF to go and buy it. A new animation on the other hand will help sales because theres truly people that actually care about SF story. After SF II: The animated Movie, the SF Animation universe got expand. I remember when i firs heard about the Collectors Edition and i thought "Wow! A new anime movie would be awesome!"
P.S: Buy my album Nov 23 :p

PS3 sold more copies than 360? I always find more people on XBL :/

Posted by Ruiz on October 30, 2009 at 7:57 p.m. #13

@ #13
There's a reason why you find more people on XBL than PSN. ;)

But anyways, they have a guaranteed buyer in me. I will purchase SSF4 the moment it is released without a doubt in my mind.

to the people saying SSF4 will sell beter then SF4: no, just no.

If you think all those 2.7 million were people that played street fighter 4 competitively, and like us, can not wait for lobbies and a few more characters, you are sorely mistaken.

^If you don't know about a huge group that didn't even got SFIV and that will now get this SSFIV, you're even more mistaken.

yea right, if they make it 20 bucks sure

This title will not sell more then the original. This is a fact of life.

Anyone who bought the title on name alone and just because it was something new will not pick up SUPER because they have moved on to new games.

Street Fighter fans will of course buy it but anyone who is not still playing SFIV currently will certainly not.

man i SSF IV will sell good. Its all about the new stuff it will have. If they make good marketing and put some special features on it then its a guarantee success

You have to realise only hardcore players will buy the game no matter what, then you have the moderate players who care about lobbies and stuff who will also buy it.

No one else will buy it, they dont care about lobbies and extra stuff. All they will see is extra characters, and am not sure thats enough for them.

Thats why I think it really really depends on marketing this time round more than before.

Posted by SE man on October 31, 2009 at 7:32 a.m. #21

I know alot of people did not buy SF4 because they know a SSF4 will come out.

Posted by saiferoth on October 31, 2009 at 8:07 a.m. #22

Unfortunently, SSF4 will probably not sell more than SF4. The only ones left to buy it are people who are hardcore fans (like me) and people who still own SF4 and play it, and wish to get the cheap upgrade.

I really do wish the game sells more, but logically, it most likely wont happen. :(

I know a sh!t-ton of people who didn't buy the first SF:4 cuz they knew an upgraded version was gonna come up.. SSF:4 will do about as good, if not better, than the first.

Considering the amount of returned SF4s we see at Gamestop, 1.1 mill is still a lofty target. Besides, since when was going platinum that bad?! (I guess when you compare it to its previous double-plat record...)

Posted by ink on October 31, 2009 at 11:03 a.m. #25

I'll buy every single SF4 update. Thank you CAPCOM for bringing back the fighting scene.

Posted by HaohShoKoKen on October 31, 2009 at 1:21 p.m. #26

How many copes did the PC version sell? Anybody know?

Posted by KeYwoRk on October 31, 2009 at 2:08 p.m. #27

All I have to say is that Capcom better take the 20 dollars that most of us spent on alternate costumes into consideration.

I would hate to pop in SSF4 and see that all the alternates for the original SF4 characters are already available to everyone, instead of having it transferred over to the people who spent money on them.

Posted by Soundgarden on October 31, 2009 at 2:13 p.m. #28

Feel kinda ripped off by Capcom that i didn't wait for SSF4 being that I bought SF4. I might buy SSF4 anyway but it greatly depends on what new characters they put in. I will probably buy it if they put in Makoto, Oro, or an awesome new character. 1.1 million is a slightly lofty mark in my opinion. I should have expected a Super version to come out anyway. Smart move by the people who didn't buy the non-super version.

Posted by KeYwoRk on October 31, 2009 at 2:34 p.m. #29

Another thing I wanted to point out is that SSF4 is definitely going to exceed 1.1 million mark. Street Fighter itself is ancient making the fan base demographic of all ages and plus SF4s’ been out for almost a year now and people are still playing it like it just released yesterday. Everyone saw this upgrade coming but it definitely surprised me and others that it would be coming this soon. I thought they were at least going to wait a couple years.

The one thing that I have to say that bothers me the most is when reading posts and threads on how people are bitching and moaning about prices and that its not DLC, yet when it’s released they rush out and buy it anyways regardless of the price. If it bothers you that much don’t waste your money nor your time and energy going to forums and posting redundant comments.

ill buy a copy of super lag fighter 4.no matter wat.i jus hope they fix online lag and add replay options which allows you 2 upload match to hard drive, also keep the final replay option where it gets saved to psn.add more trail combo challenges.hope they dont change to much on characters so it makes them feel and play different.price should be £30 for the normal disk.to the people who compline about the characters being weak and need this and that.if all the characters had same heatlh and damage as sagat there wont be any point in playing.its made like that 4 a reason.jus learn some mor moves and add mind games.u cant win em all.also 2 the laggers its cheap and the win doesnt mean s--t.so stop doing it.

selling over 1.1 million copies for SSF4 is going to be really easy for them. especially if they're planning on adding 8 or so more characters to the roster. people are getting all crazy these last couple of months over them just showing 3, 2 classic and 1 new one that everyone seems to like.

I already know they're going to hit the mark, whether or not they end up putting on PC or not (which I hope they do)

Another thing that i wanted to point out is that i touch children and feed them gummy bear candy through my mouth.
