Alpha characters in SSF4 will be similar to older versions
People who are familiar with Cody, Adon and Guy in the Street Fighter Alpha series will be able to "jump right in" to Super Street Fighter 4's iteration of these characters according to Capcom's Seth Killian, via the Unity Boards.
Killian also chimed in on a few other subjects like easy button inputs and the original character poll. Here's what he had to say.
In the character poll for Street Fighter 4, let's say that Cammy wasn't selected and Dudley won instead. If this happened, would there have been an extra character in Street Fighter 4?
Can Capcom tell us if Guy, Adon, and Cody will have the same moves and button inputs as they did in the Alpha series?
And can you say if you're planning on making Seth stronger?
Seth: To the first question, no, there wouldn't have been an extra character in SFIV, but there would have been a different character (with Dudley replacing someone else).
As for the Alpha characters move sets, there are some additions and changes, but anyone familiar with the characters original moves will be able to jump right in.
As for Seth... we'll just have to wait and see on that one.
Will there be a simple input option for special moves and ultras, like using the right analog stick or trigger buttons?
Street Fighter 4 was near unplayable for these kinds of gamers because of the inputs and insane timing on combos which required a $150 arcade stick plus months or years grinding away doing repetitive motions.
Seth: I'd agree that you're overstating the difficulty a bit, but that said, I sympathize. The short answer is that we're not planning on offering inputs like that in SSFIV, though there ARE easy special/super commands for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which in my opinion is a much better entry point for a fighting newcomer. Chain combos, easy-input specials (if you wish), etc. all give you a much better feeling early on if the world of fireballs and hurricane kicks is a foreign language. Try TvC or MvC2 — there's certainly plenty of depth, but the barrier to be able to do some basic stuff is lower.
As an example, Ono mentions the possibility of putting Adon's X-ism mid air Jaguar Kick into his standard move set. They're currently running through tests of this form.

Sf4 has easy enough inputs as is, some combo's you got to actually use the short cuts, like Zangief's hard trail 4 and 5, and Sakura's hard trial 2.

#4 keep making emoticon faces. Came before Yun/Maki/DOA Ryu Hayabusa, Guy powerbomb grab style not the same as hurrican-rana leg throw of Cammy.
While Final Fight/Bushin Target Combo of Guy's was copied by everyone after in Street Fighter games, See Ken MP->HP 1-2 now back in SFIV. They even made an entire game series and "Magic Series" out of them for the Vs. games. (After coming from Vampire/Darkstalkers series originating, testing ground for Capcom new ideas)
So no Guy is not Dural/Cycloid/Seth "clone wars omg animu face expression."

sure he may have Cammy's hooligan move set similarities, but don't forget that Guy came out before her in Final Fight and was jut added to the street fighter alpha series, and if you think the hurricane kick is retarded you should see the exhibitions of Guy in youtube and see how people use that technique for some of the combos. In addition, Guy came out before Yun or before the other characters if you played final fight.

@15. I will keep making emoticon faces ^_^ they make me happy! I find It funny how people take such offense to others opinions. I like fighting games a lot and have been around since the first street fighter 2 but it doesn't mean that I have kept up with the history of every damn thing in fighting games such as the names of the moves and other crap that you mentioned. I just enjoy the game and have fun, unlike some people who take games way to seriously and most likely cries while taking a cold shower than goes to training mode for the reamainder of the day after losing a match! I will be enjoying this game when it comes and I hope that everyone else will to! Just remember ppl its a game, don't be so sensative when ppl who have a life and play fighting games casually like to state their opinions on a character that doesn't even belong in the street fighter series in the first place along with cody! "Ah eventhubs forum how I love your overenthusiastic community who take everything up the a**."
You're crying a bit too, instead of learning from other people. Your posts add to whatever Eventhubs is, good or bad, all players can post. Just for being proven wrong about your opinion "Guy is a clone like Seth" you get upset or as bad as you put it, taking things as "butthurt." Which was way off. You can't smiley face your way out of that one. Nor are your other things you're talking about going to change that Guy is not another Seth.
Final Fight became its own game while being developed originally as a Street Fighter 1 arcade game sequel. Are you going to cry that you didn't know that too and change the subject?
So Ono says "EFF you" to your "fukin ono lied" and he can put Final Fight characters in the game as its Capcom history you still don't know despite being: "I like fighting games a lot and have been around since the first street fighter 2"
That's great but what kind of fan says "F the game makers" about stuff they don't even know? You can be a better fan by learning more.

Btw I'm not upset about anything at all just a little bored...I have a 3 hour gap between classes and seeing as to how everyone here gets all worked up about someones lack of knowledge on a given game amuses me! I learned a lot about guy and how he isn't a "clone." Also that being said I will not retract my comment about ono. "There will be no final fight characters" and what does he go and do!?! I just believe that if you give your word you are entitled to stand by it. I like guy ...somewhat in alpha 3 but I just don't think he belongs in 4. I like to follow up in the street fighter udon comics and whenever they show guy he is just really there to pawn someone for a couple of panels and that's it. He just seems rather useless to the story along with cody. I guess they are just really there for fun as opposed to the story.

Or he was being coy/wanted to surprise/they changed their minds/game dev office roundtable to bring back characters someone brought up Final Fight, and they base the update around that-think its a good idea to return to roots.
-See the Metro City bonus stage car, construction worker high beam stage, probably more to come.
Calling Guy's hurricane kick "retarded" was out of place, hence someone jumping down your face to say you were retarded (for using it that way-or other reasons not as applicable), you opened that can of worms.
Is it really out of place? Just a happy medium between Gouken's new vertical one on the ground activate and Ryu Ken classic horizontal Tatsu-superfast speak in SF2 soundbite. Good for corner combos, good enough reach(better than Gouken's) for mid screen continued combo.
Guy's shoulder tackle butt is arguably better than Yun's and another character with a special move that goes through fireballs easily is much appreciated. Less "Fireball spam" complaints and comments for months.

yes this was bit of an overstatement, but it is true that unless you want to fork over $150 and have time to get used to a stick, the control scheme for SFIV is terrible! I have separate control scheme for PPP vs KKK ultra people + specific control settings for certain characters.
This is nonsense and VERY FRUSTRATING. On top of all this you can't save control schemes (small deal), but cannot change your control scheme while playing someone online (big deal).
The problem is that for HD remix Sirlin was smart and made lots fixes everyone appreciated and didn't take too much from the gameplay (not talking about new moves or nerfs now...) b/c it made common sense. I wish capcom was more sensitive to players need and got rid of this PPP and KKK madness that his just inhibitory rather than helpful. Its funny that this was supposed to be somethign all people coudl jump into fine...
But now that it may not be released in the arcade why cna't they give pad home players (the dominant population) a break.

Street Fighter has six buttons. It is meant to be played with arcade controls. If you cannot afford one, learn how to build one. Otherwise, play something else.
I am sick of people acting like it takes years to learn how to play on an arcade stick. Just use it and have fun. You will get better at it... f*cking relax.

stupidest thing i've ever heard, unless your retarded or 6, the inputs aren't very hard. SF4 was my first fighting game, took me less than a week to master all the moves for every character. Then completed all the trials in about a month or 2 with the xbox 360 controller.

@#45 Pads and Sticks (actually @ everybody!)
I was not refering to the difficulty of pulling off combos and links!
I was just complaining that the PPP/KKK scheme forces many to either "buy a stick" or be forced "to learn how to make one" both options which costs money or lots of time and money. Besides I can do everything, it is just frustrating to constantly change your button config all the time. This is the only SF game (besides alpha series) that has this prb ie SF2-HD remix, Vs series, SFIII series, not to mention Tekken and SC there is no problem using the pad. This can be easily fixed by removing the PPP/KKK.

@ i like cookies
I've played with a pad all my life and have beaten multiple stick players.
Point is, you dont NEED a stick to be good, its all about what best fits your prefernce in controlling your character.
Most people just prefer to use a stick because its more precise for executing certain moves, combos, etc.
Posted by ¿? on November 30, 2009 at 3:50 p.m. #61
@59
I guess you mean 8-button?
@60
For must uses I agree with you, but certain stuff is definitely easier on a fight stick, so it's not always just a matter of preference. For example, piano buttons, which are very necessary for mashing attacks like Honda's and Gen's. (Try Gen's MK xx Hands on a dualshock!)
Posted by Corybell on November 30, 2009 at 8:18 p.m. #62
I hate all the people who say "You'll never master the game if you dont use a stick." That may be true if Im going to master the Arcade one too, but if Im at home, I prefer a cheap $10 Logitech controller for my PC. It has a really good pad, and thats all I need to play. Sure all the pro's play with sticks, but that doesnt mean that they became pros BECAUSE they use sticks. A controller is only an extension of your skill, if you dont like that extension, your not gonna be good at it ever. For me, the stick is like a broadsword. I can kickass with it, but only when Im at the actuall arcade, just like how a broadsword aint gonna do you much good in a cramped walkway. While the controller, is like a rapier, its small, and I can use it anywhere.
Posted by Incursion on November 30, 2009 at 9:38 p.m. #63
Oh jesus christ, please don't add any easier inputs for moves and specials as it is! There's enough DP'ing mashing as it is, or supers coming out instead of a DP, if anything please remove the shortcuts for SSFIV. I'm sorry, but I couldn't give a damn for the casual gamers. Learn how to play the game or don't play it at all.
Sticks were bought for plenty of things, but it is definitely not because the game was so challenging. If anything, like said above, this game is nothing compared, in terms of difficulty, to those of other fighting games, and past street fighter games. SFIV = SHORTCUTS ! SHORTCUTS! AND MORE SHORTCUTS!
Sticks vs. Pads is all about preference. Some people played in the arcades all their lives, so they preferred a stick. Some just liked sticks because they liked sticks, as simple as that. Some people have played with pads all their life, so they play better on a pad, etc. Playing on a stick doesn't mean your automatically going to became the best of the best.
Again, it's pathetic people complain about a game just because it has a higher learning curve than normal. I'm sorry you actually have to LEARN how to play a game. I'm sorry you have to actually PRACTICE to get better at a game. It's just like life kiddo's, get used to it.
Posted by lol on November 30, 2009 at 10:05 p.m. #64
"There's enough DP'ing mashing as it is"
Yet again people exacerbate ignorance. DP mashing works because of the large recovery window. Shortcuts play a very, very minor part.
"or supers coming out instead of a DP"
Now this is new to me. Learn your effin execution, because not even scrubs fail that hard.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't give a damn for the casual gamers. Learn how to play the game or don't play it at all."
Aaannd this is why SF3 failed. If you don't please the casual, you just don't make enough money, it's that simple. Especially now that we don't have arcades to suck up player's coins. Even the "pro" players just buy your game once and that's it. (And later whine when you try to release a new version as a separate game)

I agree that some characters require a stick to be mastered, such as honda, gen, and possibly chun. Most of their combos require fast piano imputs that are extremely hard to pull off with the pad.
However, I'm a Claw player, he really doesn't require a stick to master lol. His ultra is probably the only move of his that i can't pull off 100% of the time. Luckily/unfortunatly his ultra is garbage, so it doesnt bother me that much lol

Makes me want to play the 3d final fight game on saturn with hugo guy cody haggar and poison who fights like ryu.
@ 62 Corybell , the sticks are better than the controller but I know what your saying, there are some really good controller pad players, "some" controller pads aren't too shabby and I think it will take a longer time to get as skilled with them as the stick byt eventually your hands will mutate and conform to a pad controller. There are "certain" combos and moves that are easier to do on the pad off the bat than the joystick but either way it's 2 different roads to the same ending.
I hope if ROLENTO doesn't make it into the game, the oil guy will play similar to him or have some of his moves.
