Capcom confirms new alt. costumes in SSF4

Capcom confirms new alt. costumes in SSF4

Responding to a question via Twitter, a Capcom staff member confirmed that there will be new alternative costumes in Super Street Fighter 4 and that the old alt. outfits will also be compatible with the new game.

Plus there's something else on this subject in the works as well. Here's the text.

Will the alternative costumes in Street Fighter 4 be compatible with Super Street Fighter 4? Will there be new costumes?

Capcom: Yes and yes. All that and then some.

Posted by Dasvanu on November 30, 2009 at 11:36 a.m. #1

Great. I hope they're thoughtful. I could care less about the price, as long as they're halfway decent

Posted by Jubal on November 30, 2009 at 11:37 a.m. #2

Excellent! I've been waiting for someone to ask that question. I'm glad that Capcom isn't doing something dumb like removing the old alts. for some reason.

Dammit, almost first. Anyway the only alt costume I care about is Cody's. I really don't like the prison uniform.

So I guess that with all on the features included this game will retail for $60?!!! This has the potential to be a major let down.

cody on shis ff outfit woild be great

and some fan service outfits for the girls!

Posted by zerofxi on November 30, 2009 at 11:48 a.m. #7

#5 it's alternate costumes.. you don't have to buy 'em and no the game won't retail for 60, that's already been stated many times before.

Didn't pay for them last time, won't do it this time.

Posted by Minphesto on November 30, 2009 at 12:01 p.m. #9

I didn't pay for them before but this time i might if it helps make the game profitable which helps green light more fighting games.

Could the "all that and then some" comment be a reference to "Evil" versions of the characters? hmm...

Posted by yes4me on November 30, 2009 at 12:20 p.m. #12

I wonder if Capcom will save time and money (like I wrote before) by taking the PC skins made by their fans and resell them for console. Personally I still feel it is a great idea to save them time and money... time and money they could use to make SSF4 the better experience than ever

Posted by Firegod on November 30, 2009 at 12:22 p.m. #13

People have asked that question a few times before, and they just didnt want to answer. But its good to know there will be new alts. I know it made capcom some decent money on the side.

Posted by Garuda on November 30, 2009 at 12:23 p.m. #14

Still need to buy the old ones. Can't wait to see what they'll do with these.

Posted by catch on November 30, 2009 at 12:28 p.m. #16

I hope the "and then some." doesn't mean customizing your own alt. costumes à la Tekken.

Posted by geodude on November 30, 2009 at 12:35 p.m. #17

maybe you can just customize the color palette. that would be pretty cool, as people can then have a sort of "unique" look to their chars...

Posted by TSmoov49 on November 30, 2009 at 12:35 p.m. #18

Hopefully the extra incentive for keeping your SFIV disk is free alt costumes (new and old).

Posted by sf2forever on November 30, 2009 at 12:37 p.m. #19

I didn't buy the ALT costumes for sf4 because alot of them are comical(ex, blanka, el frte etc etc). SF is a SERIOUS fighting game and I would like to see capcom give Serious thoughts to making alt costumes. comic relief costumes are for Tekken not sf4. If they were to make new costumes for SSF4 Please no funny customes. if must then consider 2 sets, one comic relief and one Serious. FOr sure i would get the Serious set if it's not included. that is my opinion. :)

Posted by bcyde on November 30, 2009 at 12:47 p.m. #20

@fs2forever Heh, I actually did buy the ALT costumes because of the comical ones (specifically Fuerte, Blanka and Dan). I wouldn't say SF takes itself too seriously, it's the little comical stuff that gives it extra personality (like Blanka scratching himself, Dan tripping when he whiffs an Ultra, Dan smiling when he lands an ultra, etc).

Posted by SFfanboy on November 30, 2009 at 12:51 p.m. #21

I hope to see new alternate ones with the likes of Evil Ryu, Shin Akuma with addition moves as well as Chun-Li's original Alpha outfit.

Posted by Munz on November 30, 2009 at 12:57 p.m. #22

'and then some' i think, means that we get to create our own character design.

Posted by Geese on November 30, 2009 at 12:58 p.m. #23

He don't need evil version of any characters. I don't see why they would waste their time putting an Akuma headswap into the game instead of doing things like making the characters better, balancing the game, tightening the mechanics, getting the game to run flawlessly on both platforms, etc. Things people actually care about.

Also, I Blanka probably has the best alternate costume in the game. Though I'm not familiar with a few(i.e. Gen, Guile).

That would hardly save them anything. Tracking these people down, having them sign contracts, plus the profit sharing, would quickly even out their gains. Plus the vast majority of skins is utter crap, and many of the few worth using are violating copyrights (e.g. Fat Bastard). Finally, they would only include high-quality textures, limiting even further the choice.

Posted by T.S. on November 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. #30

Capcom better make the best alt costumes because the PC community showed them all the possibilities of what can be done.

So after coming out saying the new upgrade SSF4 will be cheaper in price. They're basically saying once again though, pay for the patch/alternate costumes, which since (DLC) is a "patch" anyhow, they're already on the game, you're basically paying for them to release something thats already there, but thats locked and unaccessible unless you paid them even more money to unlock them via downloadable codes etc?

Wow...ripoff!

DLC (down.loadable.content) my foot!

They're already on the damn game, *sigh* its just like last time, only this time your paying for them to release the newer ones, duh.

DLC should mean, new music/remixed, extra stages unlocked, hidden bonus features and options the previous SF4 didn't have. And isn't SSF4 supposed to have something about it, that says 'thank you' to those that didn't toss their SF4 original discs away? Wouldn't that include an extra backup disc with additional features or something like that as a bonus?

The most wanted or powerful feature would be an option to create your own 'costume skins' akin to the SF4 PC version. For the SF characters. But its highly dubtful a SF title at all, will even have such an option though. Like others have stated on here, the SF4 PC skins were superior by far and rather than have halfassed made alternate costumes for the PS3/XBox360 versions, smart people and fans would rather deal with the 10 colour variation choices, instead of paying out extras cash for crappier looking costumes of their favorite characters. I really hope the DLC for both PS3 and XBox360 SSF4 goes way beyond the mere; alternate costumes! Cos we know their really "modified patches" for stuff thats already on there. Give us something new for a change Capcom?

Creative and original, thats not on the discs but has to be added via download, for REAL this time!

Posted by Damn DLC fags... on November 30, 2009 at 2:15 p.m. #42

What's up with these DLC idiots? Not everything has to be DLC nowadays. If SSFIV was DLC, it would not have all the neat features they are giving us.

10 new characters, new moves, new modes, new stages, balance fixes, completely revamped online, death of the Indestructible song, new intros/outros for arcade mode(this being 2-3GB on it's own.) More sets of costumes that will be on the disk, and even more stuff we don't know yet.

Also, keep in mind that if this were DLC, Tourneys would be a mess, especially EVO. Imagine trying to get all that stuff downloaded on all the PS3s, on sh*tty hotel internet. Just buying disks make things easier.

If it was something along the lines of 2-3 new characters, and 2-3 new stages, it makes sense.

I also remember people being happy that there would not be DLC characters, because not everyone has access to internet, and it would unlevel the playing field. Ono would be a hypocrite if this was DLC.

And finally, IT'S NOT A FULL RETAIL GAME!!! This game has mroe things in it than original SFIV, so they could have easily sold it for $60, but they didn't. Their treating it like the update, just on disk form. Get over it. We all know you DLC fags are gonna be the 1st ones to get the game either way...

Posted by Rex on November 30, 2009 at 2:26 p.m. #43

Wonderful, we'll be nickel and dimed for content that's already on the disc, just like last time.

You do know Capcom and other companies only continue it because they "get away with." As in, people continue to eat it up.

While I love Capcom's games, they're horrible when it comes to DLC. Rockstar and Bethesda do DLC right.

Posted by ¿? on November 30, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. #44

@42
I believe the Evo organizers are smart enough not to leave stuff to do on the very last minute like you apparently would. No serious tournament organizer would have an unpatched console/game only to update it on the tournament's day, much less on the tournament's location.

plz stop saying things like that will only spoil capcom

Posted by ಠ_ಠ on November 30, 2009 at 2:42 p.m. #46

@J-King
If the new costumes were not on the disc, downloading them would take some place on your hard-drive. Since it's on the disc, paying for them does not eat any memory at all. I don't see the matter.

It's like saying you should be able to play World of Warcraft without paying the subscription because the game's content is already on the disc.

Posted by Derp on November 30, 2009 at 2:47 p.m. #47

By not having those costumes on disc, you either:

a) separate the community because of some discs not being able to read and find the data of the foreign costumes

b) undermine the people who made the purchase by resetting the character's costume to their standard outfit when they payed and wanted to use the costume

Notice the fact that it is a lose/lose situation?

With having them on disc, however:

a) all discs have the code so that there will be no problems with people with the costumes connecting to people without them

b) The person who purchased the costumes will be able to use them with no certain circumstances required.

Note how this is a win/win situation?

Both occasions you will still be paying for them, so why not go the easy and good way for all?

extra costumes are fine I guess, however, the ones released for regular SF4 were kind of weak.. a few of them look awesome, like Ken's and Fei Long's for example. even Rufus' with his pigtails I can appreciate.

but Seth with his track pants? come on, that's half-assed.

Posted by Rex on November 30, 2009 at 3:18 p.m. #52

@47
The costumes are cosmetic, and would not cause a problem like you mentioned. They would not create a problem of "missing data." If they impacted the gameplay, then you're right, they would (think like Halo trying to pull a map but someone doesn't have it. As the map is vital, it creates a problem).

It's like how on the PC version of SFIV if someone is using a modded costume, the person with the mod sees it, but their opponent does not.

If Capcom didn't want to taunt the people who didn't buy the DLC costumes, the game would simply display the default costume, and you would never be the wise as to who bought them and who didn't.

@50

@46

Get out of here with that second rate opinion, if you can even call it that!

Thats like saying, you been sold a house and the 'estate agents' will charge you more for a room they didn't tell you about and give you the actual 'key' to unlock that room for an extra price.

BUT YOU PAID FULL PRICE FOR IT ALREADY! Money and all, everything should be there, even if you have to discover some of it later (secret/extras, etc?) on.

Whatever happened to inputting codes to unlock items?!? Download for something thats already present on the game thats locked? Are you plain nuts or crazy, for trying to justify all that.

So you like paying for stuff thats already there on the disc, do you. Figures? And your comparing the SF series to World Of Warcraft, lol! Compare it to another fighting game please, and don't insult your own intelligence.

And why would it take up space on the hard drive? If the original SF4 game, was put onto a Blu-Ray DVD disc? Do you know how much information/storage that already holds? Go take a look at your game, its got the Blu-Ray symbol on it. So no, if its on there it needs unlocking is all, the downloading is merely the patch/codes needed to unlock somthing on the disc you already had. When was the last time you had something and you had to pay twice for technically, or more ontop for it.

So like i've said before. Do you know how much information/storage that holds already?

Very doubtful, if thats your comeback arguement!

The reason why I was not wearing my shirt and waist coat for my alternate costume in SFIV was because of my stretchy arms. The fabric is unable to stretch making these attacks hard to animate properly without them looking wierd. Also they didn't know how to make my Ultra, Super and Tandem Engine attacks work with my shirt and waist coat covering my torso.

The answer is simple...if you're going to whine about having to buy DLC, don't buy it. Your life won't be affected by having them or not. For every one person that doesn't buy the DLC there are 10 out there who will.
You do the math. :)

But then again if it is DLC and they are awesome I will buy them.

Yes, the Mexican chef luchador carrying a frying pan who yells "IT'S SUPER DYNAMIC COOKING TIME!" and has moves named after Mexican food, or the ridiculously obese biker with braided hair performing stylized kung fu complete with yips and yelps, should be wearing SERIOUS costumes. After all, it's a SERIOUS game.

I love how you say his opinion is second-rate for making a flawed analogy, and go on with buying houses.

its great to hear that all the alternative costumes will be inside already and that there will be even more.

besides, i still like many costumes from the pc. i would like to see a dlc "fan package costumes" for free, like on pc games. capcom cant sell the pc fan costumes for 360&ps3, because of copy rights.

even better, do it like soul calibour 4 -> there you get a full editor to create your own character with moves and costumes.

anyways, its at least 3 costumes for each character in ssf4 :-)

A great alternate for Dee Jay would be how Damnd looks from Final Fight.
