Street Fighter 4 Gouken tutorial videos
Jleadership pointed out two tutorial videos showing you how to do some mix up tactics, resets and combos with Gouken in Street Fighter 4.
Note, a 'reset' knocks your opponent out of the air and makes them land on their feet instead of their back. This is useful because instead of the other fighter having the chance to think for a second as they get up off the ground, they land on their feet letting you immediately and often unexpectedly attack or throw them again.

What goes through a scrub's mind while watching this: WHY ARE THEY DOING ALL THIS, YOU JUST GOTTA JUMP IN HARD KICK AND SWEEP
Posted by Elliott on November 16, 2009 at 1:22 a.m. #2
Of course, what this video doesn't show is Gouken just getting jab shoryuken'd out of all these resets for free...

I love gouken but @Elliott is right and the 'SUPRISE' you dont know this character is gone, cr lp, SRK or just a general rushdown will stop most of his moves. He needs some linking moves in Super and a wake up game.

ya no what im really starting to get pissed at some of the pplz that comment on the vids here some of u guys really dont understand the point of showing combos,resets and mixups its up to u to use it when u see fit and if u wont dont bitch about and say and i quot "Of course, what this video doesn't show is Gouken just getting jab shoryuken'd out of all these resets for free..." sometimes u need to learn how to appreciate what pplz do the the sfiv community...

This should help my Gouken game no end, I like the throw jump mp into ultra I got this down offline but online it's a super bitch to land in most online games because of the timing. I think more people should use Gouken he's a quality character with loadsa options that deal mahoosive damage.
C'mon kids put Ryu down for a bit n give the old master a try I promise you'll like him. S

Nice videos here. Very clever anti air.

I gotta agree the resets look really cool but anyone with a good DP can really punish you if they expect you going for the reset. But great video none the less. I was hoping he was going to show me a better option on wake up. But sadly not. It sucks being Gouken on wake-Up.
But I'm going to keep practicing and push my Gouken further.

@ Danjitsu
You shouldn't use j.mp 2 ultra after back throw, just doing ultra after back throw does about 1/3 more damage. And what a coincidence that i was practicing resets and mix up with gouken yesterday and they posted this video here lol.

i want everyone to try that reset dumb stuff vs any DP! user damn even i can dp and win agaisnt this setup!
Posted by IrPanda on November 16, 2009 at 8:54 a.m. #15
@lol
DP isn't a sure thing against it you can change it up some time you can go on the opposite side of the or when you use the mk demon kick would would not be hit by some dps( it depends on character. Some of the mix ups are pretty useful but all are more or less completely situational.

gouken just fails.
If you give him good wake up and good links he'll be broken
if u leave him how he is he just fails

@Irpanda
It's just for extra flash though imo. Most of the stuff on these vids you will never use in a match but that's not the point of these vids. Most of these insane combo vids are pretty useless and just simply show off what can of could be done in a certain situation.
They are always good to practice though.
Posted by Bold Trombone on November 16, 2009 at 11:07 a.m. #18
@danjitsu
the content in this video is very practical in a real match and isn't useless at all. This is not intended to be a flashy combo video, it is trying to show what gouken can do during common situations you may find yourself in during a match. There are definitely some video's that fall into your description, but not this one.
Posted by IrPanda on November 16, 2009 at 11:07 a.m. #19
@Danjitsu
I know lol, i main him, the mix ups are sort of useful though , not as good as sakuras mixups though.
Posted by Jack on November 16, 2009 at 12:09 p.m. #20
Guys keep in mind those are resets that he's showing without the HURR DRAGONPUNCH REVERSAL!!!11!one going on.
In a real match you can bait out the scrubby SRK, let it whiff and proceed to punish.
Just throwing that out there. (This applies to resets in general not just for this character)
Posted by Jleadership on November 16, 2009 at 12:44 p.m. #21
I think this character deserves his respect.
Bigups to all the gouken mains out there especially irpanda.

Is the screen up close so we can't see most combos aren't actually that impressive? Having too many resets makes them neither flashy nor useful.
Posted by Danjitsu on November 16, 2009 at 1:32 p.m. #23
@ Bold Trombone
90% of the time you will not use this stuff in a match. I main the guy and he has lots of go too combos that are far more useful in most matches especially against the Ryu players I face/seem to only face ever who very rarely jump in as they are too busy trying to zone/spam hadoukens, same goes for Sagats.
This is just in my experience though and this stuff is never useless to practice as a time to use it might one day crop up.

What you guys don't know is that Gouken's demon flip kick stuffs DP's. Got it done on me today several times before i figured out I had to block.
I think some DPs go through though. Just some.
And for those saying this is useless/Unusable in a match, you obviously play a more conservative SF. Me being a Sakura player, I use this kinda stuff all day long.

Man Gouken is a f*cking ahole, beating the sh*t out of his top pupil, kick the sh*t out of Ken for being a 1-trick pony jerkwad.
