Udon revised the intro for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo when they re-did the graphics for HD Remix, but the clip didn't make the final cut.

What do you think?

Posted by James on November 3, 2009 at 12:25 p.m. #1

Nice. Cammy lick in HD.

Posted by Jesed on November 3, 2009 at 12:25 p.m. #2

Oh my it sucks so bad

Posted by Ogre on November 3, 2009 at 12:27 p.m. #3

Cammy is such a tease!

Posted by kiDD on November 3, 2009 at 12:31 p.m. #4

lol @ cammy

Posted by Kururu on November 3, 2009 at 12:36 p.m. #5

Wish it was in the game. Cammy The best :D

Posted by Diamondis on November 3, 2009 at 12:46 p.m. #6

Very glad it was cut, the part with Cammy looked like a badly animated flash hentai game or something.

Posted by Gertrude on November 3, 2009 at 12:47 p.m. #7

I am so glad they didn't use that low quality crappy anime garbage.

Posted by man with no name on November 3, 2009 at 12:51 p.m. #8

am i the only one who thinks hd remix graphics look horrible?

Posted by Andrew on November 3, 2009 at 12:57 p.m. #9

I'm a little upset that it didn't make it. I wonder why they cut it?

I was dissapointed when I realized the game didn't have an intro at all when it first came out.

At least the game is good!

Posted by Duo on November 3, 2009 at 12:58 p.m. #10

Horrible man.

Posted by ally battles on November 3, 2009 at 1:01 p.m. #11

#8 - i think the graphics actually look really nice, but don't seem to fit with the game itself for some reason. i can't explain it.

Posted by wow... on November 3, 2009 at 1:03 p.m. #12

that was terrible... i like hd remix, as a game. but visually, damn ugly.

in my opinion, udon really should have picked a better illustrator to direct that whole game artistically. you know, someone who understands anatomy, doesn't put ridiculously misplaced cheekbones on his characters and who's basis of drawing knowledge isn't based solely off anime.

Posted by Mune on November 3, 2009 at 1:08 p.m. #13

I don't care what people say, that was pretty great. Really reminiscent of the original opening.

Having said that, the Cammy lick was pretty silly.

Posted by classy on November 3, 2009 at 1:14 p.m. #14

looks like they used joe ng's work..

the drawings are decent and udon knows how to draw, but the problem is the animation looks like crap, its obviously using cheap tweens like in flash.. nothing is really animated..

can't believe capcoms version decades ago looks way better lol

Posted by classy on November 3, 2009 at 1:17 p.m. #15

@people on this site is getting dumber and dumber

the work isn't anime, its udon if u buy their comics you know they can draw. udon are more western comic artist with influenced from japan.

all u retards complain about anime and always talkin crap? stop playing street fighter cuz thats all anime dumbass

Posted by classy? on November 3, 2009 at 1:53 p.m. #16

@15
I'm pretty sure mostly everyone here knows what Udon is and what they usually produce.

I don't think the complaint is with Anime itself. Rather, the artist who was in charge of HDR's art direction (Alvin Lee?) seems to have relied on Anime's, or say, "Amerimanga" style's aesthetics, without understanding the fundamentals of why things look like they do and why that style is appealing when it's done well. See Arnold Tsang. He's a great example of what kind of artist Udon has, and is good indication that Udon CAN draw.

With that said though, if people like how HDR looks, good for them. I think it sucks, and not because I'm retarded... At least I hope not.

Posted by yay on November 3, 2009 at 2:03 p.m. #17

"@people on this site is getting dumber and dumber"

ironic.

Posted by Rook on November 3, 2009 at 2:10 p.m. #18

Alvin Lee's art may be heavily influenced by anime, but the guy still knows anatomy. He just CHOOSES to abstract from reality and draw in another style.

Personally, I prefer Arnold Tsang as well, but whatever.

Posted by robbles on November 3, 2009 at 2:50 p.m. #19

even the old intro is kind of crappy. the whole chun and cammy part seems so unnecessary and not exciting. they didnt really ruin it, they just couldnt make it any better.

Posted by Soul Bro Ryu on November 3, 2009 at 2:54 p.m. #20

Wish they could patch it in. I'm sure they won't, though.

Posted by robby roo on November 3, 2009 at 2:59 p.m. #21

Rook, it's not an issue if he's influenced by anime or not. Good anime, like any example of good fantasy art, takes reality and exaggerates it. It is distinct from drawing without a solid understanding of fundamentals and then calling it 'style'.

Posted by classy on November 3, 2009 at 3:09 p.m. #22

@everyone

alvin lee definately knows his dam anatomy, hes been a comic artist since he was 17, he even works for marvel, and done plenty of stuff to show he a great artist.. hes the one who put udon on the map, b4 they started letting lesser artist draw the sequentials..

i hate talentless people on here judgeing as if they know anything.

Posted by BM34 on November 3, 2009 at 3:10 p.m. #23

this is more appealing than having no intro....i like it despite the fact its not as good as the original

Posted by ddd on November 3, 2009 at 3:14 p.m. #24

Looks like dookie.

Posted by BullDancer on November 3, 2009 at 3:22 p.m. #25

I think it looks pretty good. Wish I got this instead of no intro at all.

Posted by ThunderThighs on November 3, 2009 at 3:56 p.m. #26

Would have been better if they just did a whole new intro with better animation. Oh well, theres always SF3:3S HD remix!!!!

Posted by ¿? on November 3, 2009 at 3:59 p.m. #27

Meh. That was an excellent redrawing of the original, the problem is that it's the pinnacle of highlighting the problems such redrawing ensues. HDR already looks pretty bad at times (due to high-quality graphics clashing with lack of animation frames), this just makes things look even worse. The poor Flash-esque motion tweens, the ridiculously poor Cammy tongue animation, that's just a (excessively?) faithful port of what we had in the nineties.

Posted by :\ on November 3, 2009 at 4:21 p.m. #28

Udon manages to make ST look great. Please keep them away from any and all further HDRemix treatments!

Posted by Lawliet on November 3, 2009 at 4:44 p.m. #29

Very glad it was cut, looks like something youd find on newgrounds.

Doesnt look terrible, just no way near HDR quality.

Posted by kara on November 3, 2009 at 4:56 p.m. #30

almost boner

Posted by J on November 3, 2009 at 4:57 p.m. #31

Thank god that this garbage got cut

Posted by That1Guy on November 3, 2009 at 6:43 p.m. #32

This would have been good to keep the tradition....but it needs a lotta polish.

Posted by EEEEE on November 3, 2009 at 6:51 p.m. #33

It was alright... well except the fact that Cammy looks like a twelve year old boy

Posted by just speaking from an animation perspective on November 3, 2009 at 7:35 p.m. #34

Pretty badass but here's what I'll say..

It's too stiff for updating the drawing that awesomely-that slides with the old SNES sprites-maybe that's why it didn't make the cut.

Posted by Um on November 3, 2009 at 7:40 p.m. #35

Who says this isn't near HDR quality? Have you played HDR? Looks just like it, which says a lot about Udon and redrawing sprites. :\

Posted by Machineking1313 on November 3, 2009 at 9:22 p.m. #36

Meh. Dont care for it then and dont care for it now.

Posted by SuperV on November 3, 2009 at 9:30 p.m. #37

Bad intro, HD remix is good the way it is.

Posted by BillyAssManGunn on November 3, 2009 at 9:40 p.m. #38

WTF is up with the Cammy lick

Posted by BlankaByDefault on November 4, 2009 at 12:12 a.m. #39

This is awesome I hope that it gets added in an update

Posted by Garuda on November 4, 2009 at 5:56 a.m. #40

FINALLY I find someone else who thinks HDR looks effing horrible. It's ridiculous that udon chose Joe NG as the head artist for this.

They should either have gone with Omar Dogan, or Tsang. Tsang is friggin EPIC.

Posted by man with no name on November 4, 2009 at 6:38 a.m. #41

They should have gotten an actual japanese animation studio instead of wannabes from udon to do the work on the game. The HD remix reminds me of the crappy 90's cartoon

Posted by asdas on November 4, 2009 at 7:54 a.m. #42

both the original intro and sprites are a million times better than that HD remix garbage.

Posted by apple on November 4, 2009 at 7:55 a.m. #43

@22

that's ridiculous. someone putting anything 'on the map' or having been doing something for a long time doesn't correlate with quality.

another example of a comic artist who's been doing it for a long time and put his own company on the map way back when is Rob Liefeld... guess he's awesome too, automatically. (and if you think he's awesome, then no wonder you like HDR's art style)

and before calling anyone talentless, just because people disagree with your tastes, realize that it doesn't take whatever talent you might even be referring to to be able to recognize the good from the bad.

Posted by man with no name on November 4, 2009 at 8:19 a.m. #44

good one about liefeld, i hate that guy's artwork too-yet another "artist" copying someone else's style and doing it poorly just like udon

Posted by HyperbattleGO on November 4, 2009 at 11:08 a.m. #45

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks HDR looks terrible. I mean I understand that it took a ton of time but I agree that they should have went with another studio perhaps or a different art lead. Cause the still shots look great! Its just the animation thats terrible. D: And I do miss having an opening cause I've always loved that opening back when I was a kid. This one is cool, wish it made it in... But! with more polish. Jajaja but I'd prefer this than the tween'd Hadoukens tho. Gawd that's just... no. xD;

Posted by SurfKahuna on November 4, 2009 at 11:44 a.m. #46

@6> CLASSIC! Right? Why the hell did she lick her lips. Weak.

Posted by Normo on November 4, 2009 at 11:46 a.m. #47

Im the only one who prefers ryu intro in SSF2 than the SSF2T one?

i think you could remove the cammy and chun part. And you get an awesome intro for any game.

Posted by hello on November 4, 2009 at 12:01 p.m. #48

@normo

i'm with you on that one.

Posted by jojosh on November 4, 2009 at 2:31 p.m. #49

1) Udon knows how to draw
2) Arnold Tsang > Alvin Lee > Rob Liefield
3) Cutscene should have been included. Everything looks great except for Cammy. She just looks horrible compared to the original.
4) The art direction in SF4 was worse than hd remix. Ken looking like Rod Stewart? Everybody looking like they're on steriods? WTF?

Posted by man with no name on November 4, 2009 at 7:50 p.m. #50

1)Udon knows how to copy...poorly
2)Akiman, CRMK, Kinu Nishimura...no comparison
3)Cutscene was just frame by frame tracing of original SSFT2 animation that didn't improve upon it at all
4)I'll take SF 4 anyday over choppy animation and bloated stubby looking characters

Posted by katanaswordfish on November 5, 2009 at 11:54 a.m. #51

sorry udon, that sh!t is ugly. stick with manga/comics.

Posted by Random critic on November 5, 2009 at 7:09 p.m. #52

meh'.... *scratches stomach*

Posted by Theo on December 2, 2009 at 6:44 a.m. #53

Jojosh, I think the successful release of HD Remix ensured SFIV. Which also means Udon would be responsible for the bulky steroid characters you dislike, Udon has only a few good artists, and from what I've seen Alvins art only looks good when Tsang cleans it up and vastly edits his line art. He makes everyone look a neanderthal.
