Killian: No plans for new DLC characters in SF4

Killian: No plans for new DLC characters in SF4

Seth Killian has reiterated that Capcom has no intention of releasing new characters for Street Fighter IV as downloadable content. Here's a comment of his from a recent Gamingunion.net interview.

No plans for additional [downloadable content] right now. We want the core game to be a completely functional package, and character DLC could split the user-base.

This is a tune Capcom has been singing from the very start of Street Fighter 4, so they probably won't change their minds this late in the game.

But with the likely release of a 2nd version in the future, it will be interesting see how many characters they end up adding, if any, to the new product.

I was never expecting new characters anyway...I would love to see Guy on the 2nd version of SF4 though.

well that sucks...

Posted by kinguto on May 26, 2009 at 11:38 p.m. #3

I would love to see a expansion(Like a separate component like alot of pc games do), so the people who don't get the expansion can only play against people not using the expansion.

Make it an update, rather than dlc

Posted by flyingpigfluwithsars on May 27, 2009 at 12:03 a.m. #6

If they release a new version for another $60...... f*ck Capcom.

Posted by Ezekiel on May 27, 2009 at 12:17 a.m. #7

@flyingpigfluwithsars

People will buy it regardless, and it's nothing new, let's see how many versions of street fighter II and III were there ? Let's see:
SF2: The world warrior
SF2: Champion Edition
SF2: Hyper Fighting
SSF2
SSf2T
SSF2T HD remix

SF3
SF3: 2nd Impact
SF3: 3rd strike

It's up to you if you don't want to buy, well just put it this way, maybe this time when they SF4 Hyper/Dash Fighting, they might release another batch of sticks aswell :O. Oh and also developing and updating games isn't cheap

Posted by ANON on May 27, 2009 at 12:18 a.m. #8

yeah another version with lobbies and fan favourite characters, and better net code. You know all the stuff the fans wanted in sf4. Someone should ask capcom if they think this is good practise.

Posted by Firegod on May 27, 2009 at 12:43 a.m. #9

@Ezekiel

I understand what you are saying about capcom updateing the games, and yes it shouldnt be anything new.

However, you gave a list of updates that SF has had, but lets look at how many of those updates i have bought....

SSF2T (I think thats the one i have for Super Nintendo, i need to check i may be wrong)
SSF2T HD remix
SF4

So yea, I bought SSF2T from some kid at gamestop for like 5 bucks, and i only bought HD Remix cause it was cheap. SF4 should be a givin as to why i bought it.

Lets look at this realisticly, again as i said in a previous post about patching the game, there should be no reason why we would have to pay 60 bucks for a updated version of the game when you have the internet where you can download the updates to the game.

This is also not the age of the arcade, where a game would stay in arcades for a insane amount of time before it came to the home because it was makeing so much money at arcades that companies wanted to make sure the money was drainined there first before porting it to the home system.

No matter if updateing games isnt cheap, it still doesnt seem fair to make everyone pay 60 bucks for the exact same game, plus a few new stages, maby new songs for those stages, and maby a few new characters.

Im sorry, but in my opinion that does not seem like its worth ANOTHER 60 bucks. Maybe if they release it in a few years, then it will be ok. At least then I can act like its a new game, but if its within a year, then i wont be able to agree with that.

well.... i just wait for some modder to add thier own characters on the pc version.

Posted by do it crapcom! on May 27, 2009 at 1:08 a.m. #11

Posted by Him on May 27, 2009 at 1:08 a.m. #12

Capcom shut the fucc up and add the characters. I want Doctrine Dark, rite nao

Posted by Ghouly on May 27, 2009 at 1:16 a.m. #13

If it's not an update... Then we'll have to do again all the challenges ?

I just don't want to loose time unlocking all titles/icons/colors/taunts again...

Just look at the things like 500 online games played ! This is fµcking taking days...

HEAR ME CAPCOM.

Posted by SF44 on May 27, 2009 at 2:03 a.m. #14

Please add new characters!!!! like "ACE" the most useless character in EX3 :P

Either way if Capcom want to release more version and you gotta pay...ill buy em all...too much of a fan to bitch about how its not DLC

Posted by Sethfag on May 27, 2009 at 2:15 a.m. #15

In other words... "We don't want to upset the scrubs, again!"

Posted by Bobo on May 27, 2009 at 2:15 a.m. #16

SF4 already has revisions of it's own.

SF4 Arcade

SF4 Home consoles (added characters makes the game a revision)

SF4 PC (Unknown for what's in stored but, it's possible another revision of the game.)

Posted by ¬_¬ on May 27, 2009 at 2:25 a.m. #17

I dont think in todays gaming market it should be ok to release updated version of the same game for full price, especial when add ons and patches are the norm.

and considering the cost of gaming already, develping a update version of a game may cost money but not near as much as a new game.

Yeah.. I think its a shame capcom most likly didnt add stuff into sf4 just to sell the next version of the game

Posted by godosme20bux on May 27, 2009 at 3:13 a.m. #18

wheres the fuggin lobbies!? im tired of talking to myself...

Posted by Albert Wesker on May 27, 2009 at 3:18 a.m. #19

They better not charge a full $60 for a add on or something. It isnt 1998 anymore....just make it an optional expansion pack and make us pay $30 for it.....

Posted by SFIV fan on May 27, 2009 at 4:18 a.m. #20

No DLC ... ok thanks capcom ...

... so SFIV it's the last street fighter i bought

fck SFV or SFIV.2

capcom you kill SF

Posted by zombiebrian on May 27, 2009 at 5:10 a.m. #21

Well done guys for sounding like bitches. i told you this would happen and i told ya why.

"As for this is the last street fighter im buying" big loss im sure that capcom are crying themselves to sleep. I'll buy it i'll love it and it's last a hell of a lot longer than any of the other games available today... your looking at another two years that gives you plenty time to save your pocket money kid!

Im glad i hate dlc it's not fair on people without connections or that cost effective to do as you might expect and purley from a business point of you it wont happen!

Capcom haters, they are the best games makers ever period. idiots

Charlie, Dudley and Ibuki...please.

*cough* now.

Posted by Steve on May 27, 2009 at 6:17 a.m. #25

If capcom is smart, they will take queues from companies like bethesda do the following. Release an update via physical disc, one that costs 20-30 bucks, and also make it available via DLC. Then, release a "game of the year edition street fighter 4 turbo super alpha mega deluxe etc" that includes all content for 60 bucks. Keeps new copies of the game moving, provides multiple outlets to download, and to me it makes it more of an expansion than mere dlc.

Posted by Shin Blanka on May 27, 2009 at 7:15 a.m. #26

I dont buy into the DLC....I think all DLC is, is just things on disc that you pay to unlock. I really dont think they add anything extra, just make you pay extra for unlocking.

Posted by Suprised? on May 27, 2009 at 7:39 a.m. #27

You all realize that capcom is a BUSINESS that wants to make MONEY. You all know that, me included, that you'll probably go and pay 60 bucks for whatever capcom shells out next. DLC characters will never happen.

Posted by NeoGeo on May 27, 2009 at 7:43 a.m. #28

It would be cool if they release another Street Fighter.

It's Funny to see all the people cry "I'm not going to pay another $60 for another SF game" because they will be the first one to reserve the game.

Plus if they are not interested what are they doing on these boards looking for info each day.

The hypocrites are running around again!

Posted by ove on May 27, 2009 at 7:55 a.m. #29

"Steve" (25) is totally right!

Posted by kinguto on May 27, 2009 at 8:43 a.m. #30

A update containing characters could pose a problem for consoles, depending on the gamers hard drive, a update containing characters would be a huge file size and not all the folks on the console may have the space for it. So expansion sounds better than this update so its a choice and not a requirement.

Posted by zukuu on May 27, 2009 at 9:21 a.m. #31

patch for all: including any new charackter
psn: buy charackter

everybody happy

capcom is just interested in cash. they want to sell version 2 for full game price.

i'm really disappointed.

Posted by Fools on May 27, 2009 at 9:51 a.m. #32

Relax bitches...you know you will still buy the game even if they sell it at full price....im pretty sure you will kick yourself if you cant play the new special features they add to the next version.

Posted by 001 on May 27, 2009 at 10:52 a.m. #33

What does "DLC" stand for??....i'm praying they put in rolento in this next expansion.

Posted by Maan on May 27, 2009 at 10:56 a.m. #34

First balance the game itself, then whatever ...

Posted by Coolguy681/Fighter21 on May 27, 2009 at 11:46 a.m. #35

Dang too bad I want Dee Jay. But I guess its better if they fix up the netcode.

Posted by anonimous on May 27, 2009 at 12:05 p.m. #36

ill buy whatever but they are iddiots for not doing this DLC

Posted by YEe on May 27, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. #37

If they add more than 5 new characters I'll get it, if not I won't.

Posted by OG213 on May 27, 2009 at 12:36 p.m. #38

Yall know you gonna buy it anyways, lol so if they add 4 and not 5 you wont buy it?? suuuuure you will.

Posted by KJ on May 27, 2009 at 12:49 p.m. #39

Actually they will not. Pay another 60 bucks for a couple characters and some lame content.. f*ck that.

Posted by lool on May 27, 2009 at 12:50 p.m. #40

sure u will lol

Posted by KJ on May 27, 2009 at 12:54 p.m. #41

Umm no. Seeing how stale this game has become I'm just thankful KoF and Blazblue are coming out soon.

Posted by zxz on May 27, 2009 at 1:19 p.m. #42

hopefully they don't add any at all, if they're going to be as bad as the console characters are. (bad as in can't compete)

Posted by Anonymous on May 27, 2009 at 1:21 p.m. #43

Sorry, Capcom. Not paying $60 for trivial updates, if that's what you have up your sleeve.

Posted by Rario on May 27, 2009 at 1:47 p.m. #44

meh not a giant loss, would have been nice but not the end of the world.

DLC = downloadeble content

thank you sir

Posted by SFIV Sucks on May 27, 2009 at 5:57 p.m. #49

The sooner they start working on a 3rd Strike port, the better, so I can stop playing this shítty game.

Screw SFIV. It blows.

SHUT THE FUK UP!!

Posted by TKKT on May 28, 2009 at 5:24 a.m. #51

Balance the game first, than worry about new characters/levels/music/stuff. There are some seriously unbalanced match ups, especially for the console characters.

Posted by zombiebrian on May 28, 2009 at 10:03 a.m. #52

I dont undestand why big "buisness" companies dont make all there games free im sure the shareholders would understand why they payed peoples wages for free stuff! and why make £xx per game on physical media when they can make £> by dlc..., Capcom may have made this amazing game but there self centered and crap ...lol

Posted by Rave_Zero on May 29, 2009 at 7:28 p.m. #53

Great... they already have 3 variants of SFIV (PS3/XBOX/PC)

I'm much more worried that a new version will split the SF-player-base on each platform again.

Like many people mentioned: Capcom should use DLC the way, they used it to add new clothes for each character. This way "old" and "new" content players can still play together.

"Old" content players will be able to see the new content, but only people who paid for the new content can use/select it (characters/music/stages/etc.).

Of course bug-fixes and balancing should be available for all players - without charging them again - to ensure compatibility and because all players should have the right for a bug-free and balanced game.

This concept is way more efficient to benefit to everyone (Capcom and the player base).

@ kinguto
you have a good point about some small-sized console HDDs, these people should have an option to order a physical discs (with all updates) from Capcom. Still you have to consider, that even if you have a new disc, the game will use more cache-space on HDD than before.
These things are much easier to handle on PCs.

say it with me everyone....

ROLENTO! ROLENTO! ROLENTO! ROLENTO!!!!

Posted by HikaruBlitz on June 23, 2009 at 8:06 p.m. #55

More than likely Capcom isnt going to have ANYTHING new for us in a long while conserning SF4. But we can always hope...

I definitely liked to see Sean, Dudley, Ibuki, Guy, Cody, and Mike Haggar from Final Fight. I'd probably use Cody all the time and throw rocks at people. lol

Capcom does like its fan base, but I think they like money more so whatever they end up doing will be in their best interests. Regarding the bug-fixes and balancing issuses, that will happen eventually.
