Capcom to release 9 Wii titles, including 'major' games

The story from IGN.com is that Capcom is going to release 9 new games on the Wii before April 2010. While it doesn't get into specific titles, the article states that one of their goals is to bring major franchises to the system.

One of Capcom's biggest franchises, if not the biggest, is Street Fighter, and with a Wii install base of almost 50 million units world wide — double what the current PlayStation 3 userbase is — they'd be foolish not to put out more titles on the system.

A controller that works well for fighting games might be a bit of an issue, but considering how they're approaching Street Fighter IV's PC release, having a pack-in controller option doesn't seem out of the question.

So if a Street Fighter title besides Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is going to hit the Wii, how do you think it will pan out? Does it matter much if the graphics are dropped down a bit if the game play is there? And would you actually buy a Wii Street Fighter game if it were available?

The wii was made for casuals. It's not that much higher from a gamecube.

I'll stick to my Ps3, thanks.

I hope the wii-tards like whatever they get! :)

2/3s of these 50 million users don't know there are other games for the Wii besides Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Why bother?

It would be cool to see a 3D version of Gem fighter on wii.
:)

Would be a fun way to reach out with sf.

i'd buy anything sf related. i need something to revive my wii after all. tvc looked pretty fantastic especially for a wii game, so i'm not worried about graphics. hell, even if they just ported hd remix for retail i'd still probably buy it. i'm just a sucker though...

Waste of time, that "50 million userbase" that includes me probably doesn't have an inkling of interest in fighting games.

/Wait a sec I thought They wont make sf4 for the Wii because the disc cant handle it!!

Well, capcom did offer classic controllers for Monster Hunter on the wii. They can do the same for maybe a street fighter spin-off, or Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Monster Hunter Tripple

Posted by Graphf on May 11, 2009 at 8:07 p.m. #13

Darkstalkers. but I see this as a more mature title. also, I'd want to for ps3. But some new Darkstalkers is better then no new Darkstalkers.

Wii online sucks as well. Gonna be issues either way.

release sf: alpha 3 for virtua console @_@

du eet capcom >_>

Posted by Andrew on May 11, 2009 at 9:55 p.m. #15

i think a spinoff street fighter for the wii which would suit a wide audience, would be alright (like alpha, except easier to play)

Even if the Wii ships 50 worldwide it doesnt mean that 50 million will buy games. most of the wii owners have one game and feel good with that, they dont buy others. so this sales number of hardware is misleading.

since Wii is emulated.. good news for PC users too ^________^

Posted by Romzen on May 11, 2009 at 11:42 p.m. #18

Software sales on wii are a little crappy though the system sells well. Most wii players are casual gamers which do not even need more than wii sports and wii play.

GEM FIGHTER IS NOT BAD...4 WII SOUND SWEET...FIGHTERS 4 WII WILL JUST DO FINE NIGGAS IS BEING DICKS WITH THERE COMMENTS....TATS VS CAP IS GREAT FOR WII AS FAR AS ENGINE PLAY..AND GRAPHICS ARE GOOD...AND PLUS IF CAPCOM CAN MAKE R.E.4 LOOK GOOD ON WII THE FIGHTERS SHOULD BE UP 2 TAR....

CHEERS

@Aquashark

Enjoy your 30fps and frame skips

Its easier to get a Hori Stick 4 the Wii than anything else...and with releases like samurai showdown anthology an king of fighters orochi saga i think capcom are missing out..
As for ppl not bothering thats not true, the only reason i played my Wii lately is cos i got the arcade stick and a copy of guilty gear to tie me over till the games mentioned above come out,and hopefully GG Accent Core Plus..aswell as TvC which i do hope they manage to clear up licensing issues and bring over here,anything aiming at fighter fans for the Wii would be great imo

the should make a sf game with wii motion plus where you do hadoken in real life for hadokens of screen :D

tatsunoko is a fantastic game. do expect sf4.

Posted by they call me the bob on May 12, 2009 at 7:29 a.m. #25

if another fighting game by Capcom is released for the Wii (or Tatsunoko vs Capcom is finally somehow released outside of Japan), I'm definitely buying an arcade stick for my Wii! might as well buy Guilty Gear while I'm at it...

I would snatch up a Wii Street Fighter in a heartbeat. I already have GC - PS2 converters, so controllers wouldn't be an issue.

I think fighters on the Wii could (and should) get away with 2D graphics that are the best possible on the hardware. A good SF spinoff from SFIV with beautiful 2D animation: I'm sold like I've never been sold before.

Posted by Everyday Legend on May 12, 2009 at 8:50 a.m. #27

It would give me a reason to turn the Wii on. It hasn't gotten any use in months as it is.

Wii is an excellent console and nobody here accepts it because they are stuck in the strict definition of the "hardcore gamers". A real gamer will be thankfull to Nintendo for its contribution to the Video Game Industry. Plus, the games go where the money go, so you better accept it that we are going to see a lot of good games only for Wii.

I have a Wii and i can tell you, its a horrible system. This would be a waste of time and money.

If the Wii couldn't pull off super smash brothers, then theres no way they can do it for SF

Posted by Wii would <3 SF4 on May 12, 2009 at 12:08 p.m. #30

i'd buy it just because....I already have it on my 360, i'd get it for my girlfriend's wii too.

so on play-asia.com's website, TVC says it only plays on japan/asia Wii systems, does anyone know if it will play on usa system?? i wanna pick it up, but dont want to waste my $ if i cant even play it.

@me
that'd be fun as hell!!...kinda retarded, but still hella fun though...LOL

Posted by wiiiiiiiiiiii on May 12, 2009 at 12:24 p.m. #31

gem fighters will be great only need few buttons

Posted by Bobo on May 12, 2009 at 1:47 p.m. #32

I would like a traditional fighter, but Monster Hunter 3 has already been announced to come to the West.

That's all I need. Jokes on you emulators you guys can't play online.

Posted by tee hee on May 12, 2009 at 5:42 p.m. #33

Hell yea for Wii. I got 2 sticks, they are cheap as hell and easy to modify if you can solder. 40 bucks each as opposed to 170-300, 60 bucks if you get really, really lucky.

Elitist console war people are jokes, all 3 are fine, due to SMG, NMH, GGAC, KOF 98 and TVC I play my Wii just as much 360 and PS3. Wii may have a huge library for casuals but the DS is the probably fourth best gaming platform of all time, PC > PS2 = SNES > DS. Nintendo is not out of the hardcore game yet and I am sure whatever games they grab from Capcom will be excellent.

Posted by C.kire on May 16, 2009 at 8:54 p.m. #34

i hate nintendo but if capcom releases a Street fighter game i have to get a wii like i did when snk release Snk vs Capcom: Card fighters for nintendo ds lite. if Capcom doesnt release a street fighter game, anyways i have to still buy a wii because snk has release many great fighting games for wii.

@Wiisucks,

What's wrong with you!?!?! You've got no respect! Please bring us SF4!!! I am sure you will, right ? Please ? Thanks, man!

@Kryptic enigma,

You are very negative. Stop it! You've got no respect to capcom! ENOUGH!

Posted by bartoman on September 3, 2009 at 2:07 a.m. #38

stupid xbox360 and ps3 fanboys, why don't you keep your stupid comments for yourselves?
I tell you what, the only improvement between ps2 and ps3 is the graphics. i play since 1980s and i prefer to play innovative and fun games instead of playing the same game over and over again on different consoles. don't you get it? you're stuck with the same games for years, only with better graphics.
i bow down to capcom who understands that and tries to make fun games with the new wii controls.
