Edited: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 rumors picking up steam

Edited: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 rumors picking up steam

Update: This story has been edited since its original posting.

Word that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is headed to the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 has been bouncing around for awhile now, but rumors have been picking up more steam lately.

To recap a bit of what brought us to this point though, awhile back the ESRB had — and still has — a rating up for MvC2 on the PS3 and XBox 360.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 ESRB rating

Considering Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a very successful fighting game and there's been heavy demand for it as a downloadable title, making it available for the next generation systems seems a no-brainer, but we've heard several times from Capcom licensing issues could be a problem.

While this could still end up being a lot of speculation with little substance, there's still strong rumors we will be seeing a release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the near future.

Is it going to be an HD remix version? Cause that will be awesome.

Posted by Catalyst on March 21, 2009 at 9:52 p.m. #2

The ESRB rating mentions nothing about an HD Remix version of the title, and I think Capcom would have more trouble getting the game out there because of licensing if they "re-did it," so I don't think that's in the cards right now.

Could be wrong, but I just don't see that happening right now.

Doesn't EA still have the Marvel license to produce video games? ...Ultimate Alliance..etc.
Wasn't there a rumor that Capcom & Marvel relationship ended on bad terms.

Unless, Capcom finds a loop-hole in some contract somewhere, I just can't see MVC2 being resurrected in any format. Capcom can't even get their own Final Fight & Street Fighter characters together on one game. I doubt they could reunite the Heroes with the Streets again.
But it would be nice to be wrong about that.
Would be a dream to have online MVC2 battles.

Another thing is Marvel. Many of the characters in that game don't look or even exist the same way as they do know. That game was based on 90's incarnations of those characters & Marvel may feel they have 'evolved' since then & the game doesn't respect or represent their beloved characters as they are currently being recognized....bs...see Civil War, Secret Invasion,Dark Reign...etc.

I want this so badly on my xbox 360. I think if this does come out it will be after thanksgiving or mid next year. I'm sure capcom is still making lots of money off of hd remix and sf4

Honestly, G Manifess's post sums up my thoughts.

The only thing I'd like to add is that I wouldn't care to purchase MvC2 if it were released again. I'd rather they just make MvC3 a reality.

What the... this is the first time i've heard news of a mvc2 stick. anybody got any pictures of it?

MvC2 sucks.

Posted by G Manifess on March 22, 2009 at 6:08 a.m. #11

Well I would love an American style joystick with the quality of the TE Stick.
I'm not really impressed with Sanwa buttons, definately prefer HAPP, and I hate ball tops. AND I absolutely prefer straight line button patterns. Hate that curved sh*t. That may work for some delicate japanese style players, but I like a bat stick so I can grind & slam my moves out like its' 1992 all over again.
So if nothing else comes out of it, I'll definately take a new american style stick.

@ Flame Me Please

Lollercopter, troll.

I agree with G Manifess, growing up in American arcades has me used to happ competition joysticks with no crazy gate and super clicky happs pushbuttons. Thats the sh*t right there. xD

Where did you hear that Mad Catz is making a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 themed joystick?

Posted by @ PineTar80 on March 22, 2009 at 9:34 a.m. #14

Did you even read the article? The second line says "The latest has Mad Catz making a MvC2 themed joystick with HAPP (American style) parts."

:D

Posted by PineTar80 on March 22, 2009 at 10:33 a.m. #15

I was actually asking the author of the article where he had heard about the Mad Catz MvC2 joystick, not the commentors. Sorry I didn't make that more clear in my original question.

am I the only one who DOESN'T want a re-release of MvC2? console copies are rare, making mine valuable, which makes me feel special. plus, I'm not the best player, but I'm not the worst BECAUSE it's not totally out there right now. I dunno, I guess I'd rather have it stay exclusive and be one of those lucky ones who still has it

Posted by kamool on March 22, 2009 at 12:10 p.m. #17

@ G Manifess
The 90s incarnations were better desings.

I hate fighting games with characters who can fly around, shoot lasers and perform 100+ hit combos. Give us 3s! i really miss it! thought that i'll prefer 4..... its not that 4 is simpler or easier, its actually harder and deeper! they just removed parries and added FADC and stuff. I can do all combos in 3s, but cant even do most of the hard trial levels in sf4! its just not as smooth and streamlined as 3s... oh well

oh and did i mention that i miss parries ):

@ Anon,

yeah, I think your one of the few. I think everyone should have access to the greatness that is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. We in the US don't seem to be getting Tatsunoko vs. Capcom anytime soon, and re-releasing MvC2 is something we in US and EUR territories is something that will greatly be appreciated. I would easily drop $20/M$1600 on PSN/XBL for a downloadable version.

Posted by non-a**hole on March 22, 2009 at 3:35 p.m. #20

Anon. That is pretty much one of the most a**holish requests I've ever read. Not wanting everyone to have access to a very popular game just because you want to feel special? Jackass!

Posted by Hec on March 22, 2009 at 3:52 p.m. #21

F*** vs drop darkstalkers or at least tatsunoko vs capcom if your gonna drop a vs game mvc2 is over rated IMO

Posted by Kuro Tensai on March 22, 2009 at 6:58 p.m. #22

Its not that mvc2 is overrated. It's that it's overhyped, mostly by people who like it only because its popular, like SFIV. Both great games, but both overhyped. I personally think KOFXI is an awesome game, but b/c its not as popular people don't hype it up. It has to do with characters too. People know spiderman and wolverine and ryu and guile, but most people don't know iori or terry bogard or tatsunoko characters in TvC.

It's nice if it's coming to PS3/XBOX360. But I probably would not get it if there's no online play. Already have the Dreamcast version, which is the best version of the game anyway.

Happ parts, no thanks.

Posted by dz on March 22, 2009 at 11:07 p.m. #25

Ill definitely buy it! Online or not! If this is coming on XBL Arcade why not just add SF3 Anniversary too, third strike anyone? :D

Posted by ED on March 23, 2009 at 11:18 a.m. #26

I don't see why all the fuzz about this game... =/

But, well, if I were a Capcom representative, I'ld sure release it, since it's one of the most famous fighting games... for some reason.

It is sure to sell very well once made online.
