Ken I just paused SF3 because the live steam went down. kept it paused until the stream was back up. Thjanks

Posted by Maan on June 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. #3

Which are the prices for the winners ???

Posted by loldotcom on June 21, 2009 at 6:54 p.m. #4

Empire Arcadia basically wins everything except HDR.

Wong wins TVC, Mvc2, 3s 3v3, and SF4. Emphy wins Tekken. Flash wins GG.

Choi got HDR on lock.

Some random pad guy won SC4, but no one cares about that game.

Posted by Moy on June 21, 2009 at 7:35 p.m. #5

Ma I just came from there. I was cheering for Wong, but when it came to SFIV. J CHOI, Jwong won alot! Justin got mad and used Abel, i was like ohh fudge.

Posted by Shin Blanka on June 21, 2009 at 7:42 p.m. #6

wong Mr Counter Pick

Posted by Shin Blanka on June 21, 2009 at 7:44 p.m. #7

LOL empire arcadia sucks vs West coast, they just have wong winning everything.

Posted by loldotcom on June 21, 2009 at 9 p.m. #8

Except Empire had all their members represent in 3s 3v3, Tekken was won by Emphy, GG was Flash and Marn would of won TvC if Justin wasn't there.

Don't hate.

Gootecks rant on the guy runnung the tournament was hilarious.

Posted by Bobo on June 22, 2009 at 12:49 a.m. #10

@Mann

Every tournament the Grand Prize was 2000$, Justin walked away with 8000$. Of course he has to split on of that 2000$ to his Third Strike team.

Ken I was on a roll with Makoto. But we hardly see any of his Emphy Urien match which is reported he loses. Sucks no video in full.

http://www.youtube.com/user/getyourto...

^
Some guy interviewed most of the big name players and we learn Gootecks drove down there with Kai, and they even face off in the SFIV tourney eventually too.

Another guy in the related videos shows how big the convention center is as he walks around with a camera pointing out all the games being played, dissing Arcana Heart too, lol. Another youtube guy catches Mario playing Donkey Kong on the free play arcade games set up. Find those yourself, I didn't bookmark as they're one shot, shorts.

Devastations own channel is empty, last posted up some BestBuy pre tourney thing from a month ago.

Posted by Alfrebaut on June 22, 2009 at 1:57 a.m. #15

It says, for MvC2, that Justin and Marn took first and second, which is incorrect. Marn took second in TvC, Chunksta took second in MvC2.

Good catch. Had a brain fart there, fixed it. Thanks for the note.

JWONG Seems to really be GEARING UP FOR EVO v DAIGO. . .

Busting out Abel at the end was a nice mixup.

Posted by wow on June 22, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. #28

jwong is a monster, I couldn't take away anything from choi, his ryu is nasty. EdMa should have apicked ken since, to me, is better than his akuma

Posted by Moy on June 22, 2009 at 8:38 a.m. #29

agreed man, i was like why does he not just pick Ken? trust me would of praobably end up against Jwong. oh Well it was nice to see John choi in action.

Posted by Kanped on June 22, 2009 at 8:49 a.m. #30

Where's the Edma vs Wong upper finals videos? I fell asleep waiting for it during the live feed but I don't see it there.

Posted by SSJ3X on June 22, 2009 at 10:32 a.m. #31

I thought John Choi did a fantastic job in the tournament. Even though he fell into the losers bracket against Wong only to climb his way back out of the bracket to face him again was impressive, but he forced Wong to use his Ace up his sleeve with Abel, because his Rufus wasn't getting the job done after his second loss to Choi. That Abel though was pretty good IMO, but is this the counter to Ryu that Wong had mentioned??

Posted by Nyoronoru on June 22, 2009 at 11:29 a.m. #32

Good announcing, also looks like JWong is a pretty nice guy just needs to remember to handshake after finals matches.

Posted by Guest on June 22, 2009 at 11:40 a.m. #33

I'm pretty sure he didn't want to bring out the Abel v Choi but it looked like Choi had the Rufus pretty beat and would have forced the reset. Wong isn't going to pick Rufus again and would be forced to go Abel allowing 3+ sets of people seeing his Abel game. So he went for the Abel kill in the final set. Do you think Daigo pays attention to this stuff to prepare for a possible Abel matchup?

Posted by Maan on June 22, 2009 at 12:03 p.m. #34

That Abel is not new , in stunfest J.Wong used that character in a lot of exhibition matches and played the same
way as he has done against J.Choi. Matches are on youtube.

Posted by SYRAPH on June 22, 2009 at 12:50 p.m. #35

How amusing, a tournament between nerds who show off who is the most nerd of all of them.

Posted by Ali Vegaz on June 22, 2009 at 12:51 p.m. #36

Justin played Abel since last summer, he even had vids of him using him on his youtube page at CTF, lol

Posted by Edg3 on June 22, 2009 at 12:55 p.m. #37

3rd Strike wasn't Arturo, It was Emphy

Posted by Jaf on June 22, 2009 at 1:43 p.m. #38

Is Choi going to Evo? Because his Ryu was an awesome surprise this weekend, it reminded me of Poongko's with a touch of zoning

Posted by Intergalactic on June 22, 2009 at 1:44 p.m. #39

Anyone got top eight for SF4?

A few random comments:
-I doubt Daigo is watching Justin's videos, but it's possible. He's probably too busy playing to watch a lot of videos. Not much need to watch videos when you live at the center of the fighting game world.
-Choi is incredible and is going to be very tough to beat once he gets more SF4 experience. Love to see Choi and Valle duke it out once again.
-Ed probably stuck with Akuma because Akuma is WAY BETTER THAN KEN. Ed has more Ken experience, but anyone with a brain knows that Akuma has much more potential as a character, and that's why he is sticking with Akuma.

Posted by syraphisanerd on June 22, 2009 at 2:16 p.m. #40

amusing how a nerd comes to a nerd site to tell other ppl how nerdy they are

Posted by Guest on June 22, 2009 at 3:40 p.m. #41

Edma wasn't on Team Ken I for 3s, it was Kai.

Posted by Pfft... on June 22, 2009 at 4:21 p.m. #42

Fat boy can play. And he took Garou too, so that's 5 prizes.

Anyways, waiting for SBO now. And EVO of course.

Intergalactic is the only guy that know what hell he's talking about

Posted by @"SYRAPH" on June 22, 2009 at 5:43 p.m. #45

I've been wondering for a while how someone whose web-presence in general suggests an absolute geek (anime movies, membership on SF fan sites, videogame reviews etc.) could possibly come here and start bitching about how geeky we supposedly are for being here.
Makes me think that you're not really Syraph (aka 'farisr', 'faris_ruhi' and 'soldit'), just somebody whose taken his name because they don't like him, and maybe somebody like me would do a bit of research and get pissed off at the wrong guy.
Maybe you told him how much you dislike him on a forum somewhere. Maybe you talked about him being fat, lazy and how important 'sports' were and all the other crap you've been talking about here. Maybe I could use that username to find every social network on which you are a user and post inflamatory messages until you agree to stop posting here and being such a worthless troll.

...just maybe. We'll see.

Posted by Yah on June 22, 2009 at 6:15 p.m. #46

The finals were okay. Not fantastic, but okay. Surprised Wong switched to Abel though. I thought he would have went with boxer since "boxer is Ryu's counterpick".

Posted by hmm on June 22, 2009 at 6:51 p.m. #47

someone needs to give a time stamp for the Mike Ross vids

Posted by ARJ08 on June 22, 2009 at 7:08 p.m. #48

@ intergalactic

Akuma takes too damage too ever be a tournament character, Edma is definitely more comfortable with Ken, he should stick with Ken...

Posted by Gohazard on June 22, 2009 at 7:47 p.m. #49

Do you guys even make your research before spreading false facts? Syraph act the same way in GameFAQs and got banned.

Posted by Zorro on June 22, 2009 at 9:55 p.m. #50

What's up with Ricky Ortiz' purse?

Posted by fight club on June 23, 2009 at 12:59 a.m. #51

Funny how boxer is a ryu counter yet it's a five-five.While Balrog has tools around zoning but can dp, his crouching mp and mk has tons of priority and the first round is tough for boxer (no bars) can be easily crossed up and has no move on wake up. That was a myth perpertrated by JWong as a reason why he lost to daigo. JWong had no problems with Poongko and daigo got disqualified by a rufus for the right to play at SBO.The list goes on he says Sagat is overrated Gouken and Seth should be banned. All your gonna see is Sagat vs Sagat if nothing gets done.Basically if you lose with Sagat it wasn't Sagat who lost he never loses.

Posted by potty on June 23, 2009 at 1:05 a.m. #52

@ ARJO8 are you kidding me? Akuma is an excellent character. Ed Ma made a lot of mistakes and a lot of people in chat even mentioned it. There are 2 or 3 Japanese players that beat Daigo all the time as Akuma, Momochi completely decimates Daigo all day. Ken is way worse than Akuma when it comes to offense and defense, the only thing Ken has on Akuma is more health. Look at American and Japanese high level tourney results, Akuma will always be higher than Ken.

Anyway, Devastation was a great event. Congrats to Wong for everything. I was shocked Choi got so high and I am happy about that since I come from ST. It proves that ST zoning is greater than everyone else but the best in the US, give Choi a few months on this game and he will be on par with the best of the Japanese in my opinion.

Posted by Ezekiel on June 23, 2009 at 7:47 a.m. #53

Probably the reason why Choi doesn't have as much SF4 experience as the other players is because he has a real job. Hmmm imagine if Tomo Ohira made a comeback to SF which I doubt

Posted by faris_ruhi on June 23, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. #54

I'm the real SYRAPH. Obviously in this comments section there's no way to keep one name, but I never flame and post stupid comments on the internet. Im in no way a good player at SF4 and if you see a post claiming something like that, obviously someone trying to ruin my online "rep". Legit accounts are:

Eventhubs forum: faris_ruhi
gamefaqs: faris_ruhi
PSN: SYRAPH
XBL: TheRealSyraph
youtube: farisr

Posted by faris_ruhi on June 23, 2009 at 9:41 a.m. #55

sorry for double. It's quite obvious the guy changed his name to gohazard and said I got banned on gamefaqs. lol.

my account still exists on gamefaqs, I have only got modded once over the last 4 years that my account has existed and my board user level is Icon. That is like the opposite of being banned.

Seems like someone either is pissed off that I beat them at SF4, or someone just wants to ruin my "rep" either because they're bored or they're pissed that people dont react negatively to my posts.

Posted by faris_ruhi on June 23, 2009 at 4:21 p.m. #56

Sorry for the triple post. I forgot to say I am a stupid white boy who spend 24 hours playing SF4 and record my matches so I masturbate while watching them.

Posted by Tekken and KOFXII on June 23, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. #57

That girl gamer took on tons of people in a row including that DJWheat host and won convincingly, then they put "stalker cam" on her when she was done and waiting around.

Another guy or people switching of Player 1 on the T6 cabinet had like 30+ wins in a row.

KOF12 looked fun but broken with a Mature player whom did that special custom combo juggle for like 75% life, but still lost to a Terry jump in HK-HK sweep just like Ken flowcharts lol the next round. They couldn't bring their own sticks for the game it was reported.

Speaking of Ken flowchart some tournament entry guy's name was "XBOX LIVE Ken FLOWCHART" Wheat said that guy is winning when he saw it. And Wheat vs Swoozie did ken vs ken with Gootecks razzing them for how they played. Swoozie is pad only.

Posted by flowchart on June 24, 2009 at 1:27 a.m. #58

@ fight club

Balrog is considered a counter for Ryu when you compare it to playing as Rufus vs Ryu. Rufus has distinct disadvantages over Ryu as you could tell by the end of the JWong/Choi match. Now John Choi was a great player and I loved watching him. But at the end, he started to play Ryu very similarly to Daigo, and it forced Wong to switch it up.

Balrog is definitely not a "counter-pick" to Ryu by any standards. But it does create a much more even match than Rufus.

EA Megaman should've lost that match against J-Wong. That geek only got lucky; I bet he won't be able to pull off that fluke at EVO this year.
