Justin Wong breaks world record for Street Fighter 4

Justin Wong breaks world record for Street Fighter 4

American Street Fighter 4 champion, Justin Wong, broke the Guinness World Record previously held by Zak Bennett.

Justin defeated 300 competitors in a row at this year's E3, smashing Bennett's record of 108 consecutive victories.

For every win, Evil Controllers donated a can of food to a Los Angeles food bank, so not only did Justin get entered into the record books, but he also did some nice charity work along the way.

Kudos to JamRock for the submission.

Posted by wongkong on June 9, 2009 at 1:19 a.m. #1

thats cool that it was for charity and all but judging from the video its really not that impressive. i bet 95% of the people he fought were scrubs and flowchart players. its almost like kobe byrant challenging 300 middle schoolers to 1v1's on the basketball court

Posted by Zelseus on June 9, 2009 at 1:25 a.m. #2

wongkong,

It's true that most of the players probably weren't top-notch, but even so, 300 straight matches takes a good degree of stamina. So, if not for his skill in the game, we can at least admire his endurance.

Posted by Albert Wesker on June 9, 2009 at 1:46 a.m. #3

For every win, Justin Wong devoured a Big Mac in celebration.

Posted by chillcut on June 9, 2009 at 1:53 a.m. #4

How long does this take? I think ~ 60 matches with 3 of 5 takes about 4 hours...

Posted by Daigo Rips Justins pindick off on June 9, 2009 at 3:01 a.m. #5

lol as you can see they where all scrubs lol. the ken was so pro keeps shoryukening when he rises, d ont these players learn from there mistakes? Justin may be good but Daigo is the god of sf. btw justin looks gay

Posted by Ezekiel on June 9, 2009 at 3:02 a.m. #6

300 matches in a row, wow

Posted by trance on June 9, 2009 at 3:57 a.m. #7

awesome for the charity....but I still want to punch justin wong in the face

Posted by Zaldin on June 9, 2009 at 4:03 a.m. #8

Disclaimer: Now I'm no fan of Justin but this achievement is still impressive regardless who did it.

How could you possibly tell that all 300 players were all scrubs. It was E3 the biggest gaming event in the world. There was bound to be a handful of awesome Street Fighter players there, hell I bet he even beat Seth Killian.

Posted by blahblah on June 9, 2009 at 4:38 a.m. #9

Thats pretty impressive. I guess Justin is getting back up there. Congrats to him all the same.

I feel all nilly willy for not knowing this, buuuuuuuuuut.,.... Whats a flowchart? I've heard this term before, but.. yeah=P

Posted by RedWrath5 on June 9, 2009 at 5:03 a.m. #10

@9

A flow chart is a picture describing how a specific charter is played by a scrub. The one for Ken shows many possible options but the all end up doing a shor. The best way to describe it is look here

Posted by wow on June 9, 2009 at 6:24 a.m. #14

That certainly is impressive!

Even more so if he did it without bathroom breaks! :O

Posted by aerobie on June 9, 2009 at 6:39 a.m. #15

Great work, Justin! 300 wins is impressive no matter who you're playing against. 300 cans of food for the hungry is better than nothing too!

Posted by Jhay on June 9, 2009 at 6:50 a.m. #16

Gosh, people are so mean. Justin's a great player, and no doubt he played some scrubby people, but at the same time, you can't expect every possible match to be recorded. He probably beat some great people, too, Mike Ross included.
AND, he did it with a remote, not some nice arcade stick.
While a lot of people say that he's garbage compared to Daigo, the same could be said to about 99% of the Street Fighter playing community. So, I dunno...
And concerning the Japanese high score list, no doubt, no DOUBT that they played some scrubby Japanese players in those Arcades, but that's not be disputed. Everyone just loves tearing up Justin, but hey, the guy helped out more than three hundred men, women and children with the food he won. So that's gotta count for something, right?

Posted by 300 LOL on June 9, 2009 at 7:16 a.m. #17

Hey Justin how did you do at SBO Quals LOL. I think we know how that played out.

Posted by P on June 9, 2009 at 7:27 a.m. #18

It seems like a lot of people have reached the second step of Street Fighter scrubdom: thinking Daigo is some sort of god rather than one elite player among many.

Posted by V-kaiser on June 9, 2009 at 7:33 a.m. #19

I have to take the side of pessimism here. While Justin may be skilled, there's a vast majority of people there that may not be EVO/SBO quality players. Out of 300 players, he may have fought only a handful of pros as E3 just doesn't let anybody in.

Posted by Cool on June 9, 2009 at 7:44 a.m. #20

You people are all hilarious. Does it matter who he beat?

"For every win, Evil Controllers donated a can of food to a Los Angeles food bank"

That's why I like this. Very cool way to go about promoting something like this.

Posted by JamRock on June 9, 2009 at 7:45 a.m. #21

I like how eventhubs didn't give me credit for the find but it's cool but justin played mostly scrubs but not all of them were scrubs most were frm denjin arcades and he even played mike ross so it's a great feat

Posted by Ezekiel on June 9, 2009 at 8:10 a.m. #22

So that's 300 cans of creamed corn ? Seriously that's what everybody donates XD

Posted by Wake up tards on June 9, 2009 at 8:18 a.m. #23

Who cares if it were scrubs or not ?
"For every win, Evil Controllers donated a can of food to a Los Angeles food bank"

Guys you really have to get a real life

"Hey Justin how did you do at SBO Quals LOL. I think we know how that played out."

?

He's going to Japan, where are you going.

Posted by blahblah on June 9, 2009 at 8:49 a.m. #25

they were playing using 360 controllers? no wonder nobody beat him.
The D-Pad doesnt have any directions, its just a big circular button..

Posted by J on June 9, 2009 at 9:12 a.m. #26

Kudos for Justin.

Posted by Word on June 9, 2009 at 9:13 a.m. #27

You're all a bunch of hens... People don't like justin for who he is (his sportsmanship), no what he can do. People respect Daigo for who he is & what he can do. End of arguement... All of you that are trying to defend justin just need to accept that people don't like his sportsmanship. All of you that don't like him need to quit feeding into the Anna Nicole Smith of Street Fighter tabloids

Posted by lol on June 9, 2009 at 9:33 a.m. #28

Daigo should have turned up and beat his ass on 299 lmao

Posted by Jason on June 9, 2009 at 10:04 a.m. #29

360 controllers? I thought they were PS3 controllers?

Posted by Joe on June 9, 2009 at 10:38 a.m. #30

Justin Wong is a legend.

Posted by Biz on June 9, 2009 at 10:44 a.m. #31

Lol everyone bashed on Zak Bennett when he first set the record to. Scrubs or not its still impressive just not as impressive as it could be. Charity was nice though. But on a side note, i absolutely cannot stand Justin Wong, i love in the video above vs Mike Ross, after Mike beats him for a second round, Justin's face has, "Please kick me in the teeth" written all over it lol. If he really wanted to do charity, charge 20 bucks to punch him in the face and then donate the money, watch how much you make kid ;) lol.

Posted by trance on June 9, 2009 at 12:56 p.m. #32

@Biz

I would def pay 20 to punch justin in the face

Posted by lol on June 9, 2009 at 12:58 p.m. #33

I'd like to see him try to get a streak of 1 against Daigo.

@JamRock

Sorry, when this was sent in, there wasn't an email or anything else where we could credit you from. Always happy to add credit for submissions.

I'll add it into the story now.

Are you retarded? some of the best players in the world don't have the money to go to e3. Best players in the world is gonna be at evo next month and thats when justin learns reality

Like i have said before,
all you guys bashing Wong, probably wont even stand a round with him. Also, what are you guys doing for the SF community? I thought so!

Posted by SSJ3X on June 9, 2009 at 3:57 p.m. #40

Hey, 300 is impressive, and for charity work, that's even better. Kudos to Wong on this one.

Posted by BurningWater on June 9, 2009 at 4:24 p.m. #41

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen such a vast collection of haters in one place. GameFAQs isn't nearly this bad. Anyway, good job, Justin. No one here could do what he did, and regardless of his sportsmanship, did we forget that talking smack is part of what makes competition so interesting? None of us know him personally, so who are we to say he's a bad person? Stop hating.

Posted by Impressed on June 9, 2009 at 6:02 p.m. #42

You guys are the dumbest people in the world. It was for charity. And I'd like to see if Daigo (the spammer) will be able to stand up to Justin's Balrog. At least now, it's gonna be a 5-5 matchup rather than a Rufus that has severe disadvantages over Ryu's SRKs.

You guys are a disgrace.

2 wrongs don't make a right.

Don't flamebait.

Report stupid posts, don't go and make a stupider post in the battle for the most stupid post.
And stop living your life through other players.

Posted by Me on June 10, 2009 at 3:24 a.m. #46

Props to Justin for the world record. I expect to see a much better match up between he and Daigo at Evo. (Assuming they both get through to the finals that is.) After being humiliated at the National Tournament Justin will be out for revenge, and Daigo will be out to prove it was no fluke win. Should be an amazing duel!

Posted by SYRAPH on June 10, 2009 at 5:12 a.m. #47

Damn, saw Justin for the first time and he is ugly but that doesn't surprise me.

All he did is show the nerdy side (Japanese) that is inside him and the annoying/arrogant side (American) that is outside of him.

apparently some of the ppl here don't appreciate the responsibility that comes along w/ free commenting. the above post is rather offensive even if u might not care much for justin's sportsmanship.

and in response to #52, justin also played ken and sagat (the vids are on youtube) during the streak. it's possible he played other chars that haven't been posted.

Posted by pzed on June 10, 2009 at 12:19 p.m. #57

he also played dhalsim. basically, he wasn't all business playing his main. he mixed things up a bit.
