Archived video from Evolution 2009
The live video stream for the Evolution Fighting Game Championships has ended, but you can still check out the archived videos through UStream.tv.
While the matches were broadcast at a pretty low frames per second count, there will be higher quality videos posted on IGN's Insider service in the near future. There's a special Evo deal to sign up for IGN Insider for a year for $15.

they should have DJ Wheat and his crew to do this. they have better commentating and better picture quality,

You people complain about how the streaming was down, but you have to realize hiccups happen. It's technology for Christ's sake. Technology isn't always foolproof. They're broadcasting this to the Internet which is a whole different ballgame than broadcasting it on television. There are bandwidth issues, budgeting, and people who make it happen that are involved in doing this. You know, they don't even have to try to fix the stream if they really didn't want to. They never did live streams before. You either just had to be there or you bought the DVDs. You should at least be thankful that they're trying to provide this service to the community FOR FREE via USTREAM. If you honestly think you can do a better job streaming EVO for us, then please do. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut and do something else in the meanwhile until the stream goes back live. These people that are trying to stream deserve all the kudos in the world for all their hard work so we can enjoy this event even though we were not able to go ourselves. You guys honestly think it's so easy. I guess ignorance can be bliss.
Posted by kona on July 17, 2009 at 2:11 p.m. #23
Also, they're not funded like MLG because the fighting game community is not as big as say the Halo community or CounterStrike community so they don't make money like that. We're just going to have to make due until they fix it.

If all you are broadcasting is one stream from one location, then there really is no excuse for this screwup, kona.
They knew the enthusiasm was there. They knew that we knew about this stream. Making things like this break-proof is their job.

Real Talk right now: After Ponder and Wizard talk all that crap about the Devastation Stream and DJ Wheat and cohorts. They said they will do a better stream with better announcers. Wizard went on DJ Wheat show after Devastation and talk big game to them in there chat room. Guess what Ponder said on the last Alphaism podcast they were not going to do a DVD this year and everyone will have to buy the IGN VOD after the event so open up your pockets so you can see your match videos. Big loss for the community on this screw up. Well they had there shot to blow up but they dropped the ball. Lets see how many people actually pay for the IGN subsciption.

they should seperate the fighters by class , all the shotos should be in there own class Guile should go with Gen and Viper since he is hard to be good with and all the chars with no fireballs should have there own class too. I mean come on Ryu is cheep his uppercut has the highest priority plus it links to his Ultras Cheepo

To SFIV fan,
You're probably one of the scrubs who couldn't do anything with any character. Separate them by class?!? Where the hell did you come up with that? And that comment about Ryu's dragon punch. Okay lets ban that move. At the same time, lets ban Sagat, Akuma and Ken's uppercut, Sakura's ex hurricane kick and all other moves that allow people to EX dash cancel into a ultra and/or into other special moves. Hell lets ban all moves that are cheap to you. How about that? Just because you get hit a lot by it doesn't mean it's cheap. You just suck.
However I do somewhat agree with you. They should start separating by class. The scrubs, like you, from the people who knows what they're doing so we don't have to play people like you online and waste our time.

Posted by Shoto defenders on July 18, 2009 at 4:32 p.m. #54
LOL why are people so adamant on defending shotos? They need to have their own game as they have an answer for everything. Not saying they are unbeatable, but give every character a counter for every move or just make a Shoto Fighter game. Thats why KOF will always be better because they dont have gameplay designed around one type of character (or character style).

Posted by Seriously on July 18, 2009 at 7:17 p.m. #57
I think IGN purposely hired these idiots to stream EVO just so they can make money off of us by forcing us to subscribe and download the tournament. These random outages are annoying and it's making people watching extremely irritated. I don't care if it's free. Devestation was free and it was streamed perfectly. There's no excuse except what I said early.

Posted by sj on July 18, 2009 at 7:37 p.m. #66
I wonder if they even WATCH this on the Internet and are aware of the buffering. It seems like they just set up the camera and never came back. That's why they only have one TV and one TV-cable. Extremely low budget.

Ok Tuboware, since you're such an expert on this, then explain how the guys who streamed Deveststion did it so well? Not only the quality is terrible, the people there don't pay attention to the actual visual of the streaming. More often than not, the match will start but the the camera is still showing the d-bags talking about some other non-related topic or they'll have the brackets up. The hosts aren't even paying attention to the live streaming. When there's an occassional black out the guys won't know it was happening until 10-20 minutes later. By then 5 matches went by and leaves the audience wondering who won. You may have the luxury of seeing all the matches without any screw ups but you have no idea how it is for us to watch this event from our computer. And don't give me that crap "oh stop complaining, you're watching this for free." Free or not they're not doing a good job broadcasting this big event. Like I said to my friends watching this event online IGN is doing this on purpose (by hiring these idiots streaming the event) to force us to subscribe to their thing to download the high quality matches and enjoy it then.
Oh btw, just in case if Tuboware is one of the employees working for this crew, do us a favor and go find another career. You guys are crap.

Congratulation to Daigo. Thank you for the stream. I learn quite a bit from this and have decided to stick to 3 characters because of evo 2009: Ryu/Akuma and maybe the boxer.
very entertaining. love it.

After Gootecks throws his stick in frustration after a loss, lets see how many more or less fanboys he gets now.

So what's Justin's new excuse for losing?
Posted by Tri force on July 19, 2009 at 11:26 p.m. #114
My boy Justin was slipped roofies and he hasnt slept for 45 days. He has a urinary tract infection along with migraine headaches. The stick he was using was completely worn out and not as responsive as it usually is,, I think a west coast player tampered with it. Justin didnt get a fair chance as it was too dark in that room, he was suffering from jet lag too. He has a fever and his hands were all sweaty while playing. Hes not use to playing on a PS3, and the dry weather was getting to him in Nevada.

Lmao@triforce
USA USA USA.............
But yea...i swear Daigo was either abit off throughout the whole tourny or he was just playing possum to make it more exciting. Usually if he hits someone with SRK, that's it, in this tourny whoever he was playing against seemed to get a hell of alot more chances...
But i'm glad he won.

The crowd was cheering so loud I couldn't concentrate and I had to fly in from Japan to this tournament. My competitor also celebrated each victory against me as if he won the tournament...oh wait...

That final was epic, at least Justin didn't get utterly smashed.

Great final... would love to see it in high quality.
Great play by both guys, impressed by Wong's switch to boxer.

Thanks for the live stream! Too bad it's being milked for money via IGN. Hopefully the event was documented by someone else on film and will be released on DvD. 8)
