Street Fighter 4 console timing test video
CigarBob uploaded a video to YouTube showing Street Fighter 4 running side by side on the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.
This was done because a number of people have said the timing is different on the console machines, and while this is kind of true, the difference would be almost impossible to detect in a real world scenario.
Here's what CigarBob had to say on the matter:
At 50 seconds on the clock, the systems were off by only 1 frame on my 30 frames per second camera. For every 50 in game seconds the XBox 360 will be two frames ahead of the PlayStation 3.

so what exactly does this mean....is the 360 btter then the PS3 and so much for capcom saying the games are identical lol

2 FRAMES EVERY 50 SECONDS!? IT'S OVER, PS3 IS FINISHED.

That's it! They are now gonna use the 360 version for EVO. The world is over as we know it...
THIS IS BLASPHEMY!!!

Sarcasm aside, this doesn't mean anything. The 360 being "faster" by like .0005 frames a second, doesn't really improve the game either way :P
Posted by Mart on July 3, 2009 at 1:17 p.m. #6
exactly, this video showed that people whinning about a version being better than the other are actually plain ol whinning machines

isnt this suggestive that the 360 COULD run sf4 faster than the ps3?
Posted by anonymous on July 3, 2009 at 4:48 p.m. #13
360 being tad faster than PS3 doesn't mean anything imo. The consoles should be compared to the arcade version, if possible, to see which one is running at the right speed.

I use a Gameboy to play SF4 beat that!
Posted by Slash5150 on July 3, 2009 at 6:17 p.m. #20
This is basically meant for the people who mainly play on 360. When they go to tournaments, some people bitch that the ps3 version is too slow and that it "messes up their combos amd thats why they lost"

JUMP!JUMP! uh huh uh huh
Posted by zxz on July 3, 2009 at 8:45 p.m. #22
uh what makes you people think the ps3 version is the one that is off? i've seen no arcade comparison to know which console is the one with different timing. and actually they could both be off compared to arcade for all we know.

this is the reason why i play tekken 2 its must more fun and fun

if you care about such a miniscule difference you FAIL
Posted by joe on July 4, 2009 at 9:02 a.m. #32
theres NO difference its Human error. he just move the 360 1/2 sec faster then start recording. done done done!!
Posted by SSJ3X on July 4, 2009 at 9:07 a.m. #33
Apparently... it is a slow day for news.
But this topic does bring up another point about what console is better. I own the game on PS3, but unfortunately I'd rather have a 360 version specifically for the online. It's hard to find a good connection on PS3 for one, and it's even harder to find Grade 1 matches on there too. I'll literally be waiting a good time to find someone.
Who knows... maybe the PC will beat both lol.
Posted by SFIVPC on July 4, 2009 at 9:59 a.m. #34
first off, theres frames skipping on both console versions, what people have to realize its not the frame skipping or the missing frames that making the big difference, its because the 360 version is running at a faster speed than PS3s, doesn't mean the frame actually went missing. However, frames do go missing on ULTRAS on certain characters, so bad you can see stutter on the DINER STAGE using E HONDA and KEN.
That slower game difference on the PS3 doesn't spoil anything, in fact the real spoiler is that the PC version runs faster than 360 or PS3, its like a TURBO edition, I'm talking about game speed, CAPCOM should have made sure that actual game speed on all version would be the same, however it doesn't seem to be the case, and frankly the PC version runs so fast, coupled with enhanced AI its almost annoying to relearn the timing and speed of excution all over again.

2 frames ahead!? oh no tomorrow im going to buy a 360 and throw away my ps3
btw:who cares

pc > arcade > betabox 3shtty > gaytrey 3
Posted by jerkstore on July 4, 2009 at 3:26 p.m. #38
You all seem to be missing it's 2 frames OVER 50 SECONDS.
Meaning it takes a full minute just to be out 1/60th of a second.
Posted by Dampkring on July 4, 2009 at 3:37 p.m. #39
whatever, I have the PC version xD
Posted by Ghouly on July 5, 2009 at 1:02 a.m. #40
It's damn funny to see those PS3 fanboys claiming "This is not big deal after all".
They're just totally upset by this tiny difference.
WTF ? they bought some crap at a heavy price and that stuff isn't able to beat something released months if not years earlier ? they wanted to have the biggest -censored- and someone pointed out that their version is identical if not "slower" ?
Weird, but wait 'till Sony crashes down, then you will really have something to complain about.
Again, LOL

"isnt this suggestive that the 360 COULD run sf4 faster than the ps3?"
It's more suggestive that Capcom may have done something wrong or there's something defective on a hardware level with the PS3. There's more processing power in PS3, so...
"frankly the PC version runs so fast, coupled with enhanced AI its almost annoying to relearn the timing and speed of excution all over again."
I'm not sure you get what frame skipping is even though you talk about it. You won't have to learn anything at all between the versions. The perceived fast speed is just the game running smoother (by not frame skipping), not faster.
Posted by shaggy on July 5, 2009 at 6:09 a.m. #42
What's the use of this comparison when everyone uses a lag switch online. Even if they're not lagging, which is rare, they're just sitting there like cowards waiting for you to come so that they can give some cheapshots.
Posted by grilog on July 5, 2009 at 7:11 a.m. #43
shaggy #42 you make no sense. why not wait for someone to do his move. is it against the rules of the game or something? sounds to me you lost too many times boy! ha ha! Grow up! ps: f**k 360
Posted by Omen on July 5, 2009 at 7:58 a.m. #44
Im happy with the pc vertion tbh with everything on high and no loss in fps if you have a realy good gpu
Posted by SFIVPC on July 5, 2009 at 9:09 a.m. #45
messatsu #41, I know what frame skipping is, what I'm talking about isn't frameskipping making the speed difference, even if ALL VERSIONS do not frame skip, the PC still runs alot faster. That has nothing to do with frameskipping, It's the actual GAME SPEED which is different.
If you play the same game running at different speed, yes all your timing has gone out the window, you will have to re-learn according to whatever SPEED your playing at.

I hate when people stay the reason why they got the game for ps3 over 360 is because of the pad, stop playing fighting games with a pad, just learn the fight stick its actually easier, most people biggest problem is not the pad itself its the button layout, at least madcats controller helps in that department, but if u r buying madcats game pad contoller, then it doesn't matter what system you buy it on. If you are going to get a for PS3 just be honest and say i like the PS3 better, not the controller sux. why because pad sux period.

if I was a ps3 fanboy like most of the clowns in here I would upset also paying for an inferior piece of hardware.

my 360 got the right of death AGAIN :( it seem like it is program to crash days after 1 year.

sup 48, wanna play some MGS4 over at your place later because you are an obvious sonyfriend troll?
I think I have the unique gaming experience to have less bias than your average gamer. Nintendo was my favorite for NES and SNES, PS and N64 were "tied" My PS2 seen far more use than my GCN and I barely touched my bros XBOX, but when it comes down to it, Sony is in last place this generation. It went from the PS2, my favorite system, to the crap tier. 360 has all the good games, and Wii has all the unique fun games. PS3 has a handful of good exclusives. I kept waiting for it to get a decent library, then I'd get one... ?But it never came. Sony was trying to sell a future which a lot of fanboys and weeaboos ate up, and that future was fake. FF13 and MGS4... Just not worth it. Hopefully Sony will save itself next gen. I'll be looking forward to it.
