Zergwatch.com reported that British player and former EVO competitor, Zak Bennett, has been entered into the Guinness World Records for beating over a hundred challengers in a row. Guinness World Records confirmed today that UK’s premier Street Fighter player Zak Bennett has broken into the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition for the most consecutive wins on Street Fighter IV - with a whopping 108 wins unbeaten.
The successful record attempt took place in London on Friday afternoon. Official Guinness World Records representatives were present to adjudicate the feat, which is now shortlisted for inclusion in next year’s Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition.
Challenger Hatim Habashi beat Bennett after 28 consecutive wins, but in his second record attempt Bennett raised his game and managed to defeat 108 challengers in succession.

If he did this at an actual fighting tournament and not facing random kids in the mall who don't know how to play, this story would be very different.
Posted by madMike on February 24, 2009 at 6:23 p.m. #2
What the hell does it matter? I don't see you going for a consecutive win record regardless of who you're against. Kudos where kudos is deserved or should nobody bother striving to be better anymore?
Posted by jleadership@gmail.com on February 24, 2009 at 6:40 p.m. #3
Well I guess that answers the question if he's any good.
Kudos big time. I wonder if they have any footage.

this really doesnt mean anything i just got my hand on the game and i won more than a hundred and lost like less then ten matches an im no pro any pro especially the ones that already been playin the game in the arcades for a while could do this especially the first days when most of the people playin dont really no how to play yet
Posted by madMike on February 24, 2009 at 6:51 p.m. #5
Then put your money where your mouth is bill and beat that record. Seriously.
Posted by yflow on February 24, 2009 at 7:18 p.m. #6
I don't know if I'm really impressed. There's nothing saying that he actually fought real Street Fighter players.

OHH Bill - u gona stand there and take that.
Name the time, system and gamertags...
Hey Mike In case you were wondering I am brokshomey on psn.
Any one with that attitude is okay to me.

Well its a record, albeit the fact that I don't think its a fair one, especially if he's playing random people who just line up so they can be a part of "history."
When Daigo did his Kumite against 10 people, they gave him a ridiculous challenge, because they weren't your typical random players, so thats more credible than this.
I won't be surprised though if he tries to enter Evolution this year though. Normally a World Record means maybe a return to competitive play.
Posted by DForce on February 24, 2009 at 8:28 p.m. #9
I didn't think he could do it, but he did.
Congratulations Zak.
Posted by Ugh on February 25, 2009 at 12:11 a.m. #10
The prize was a 48 inch flat screen for beating him. I am SURE some pretty decent players came out with that on the line and not just "random kids at the mall." Stop being pathetic haters on this guy. He is just helping Street Fighter be even bigger ensure that Capcom knows that people still love 2d fighters and to keep making them. Plus he won 108 matches straight with insane pressure on him. Anyone trying to call this guy out is just like some pathetic loser on their couch yelling at a quarterback.
RESPECT Zak.

Agreed good job, who was his Main? any one know?
Posted by yflow on February 25, 2009 at 5:18 a.m. #12
Ugh:
That 48-inch television seems like an even bigger incentive for "random kids at the mall" to step up and challenge him. Imagine you're walking through the mall and someone wants to take five minutes of your time at no charge to yourself to give you a chance to win a television. If you win: awesome. If you lose: nothing gained, nothing lost.

@SSJ3X: What do you mean its not a fair one? I was there. Guinness World Records were there. I'd call that fair. All of you who can't hack the fact that he has a world record are just flat out jealous, because if any of you held a world record you'd be proud of it. Zak should be making you all aim higher not talking crap on a comments section of a website.
@brokshomey: If the ping is yellow, we'll duel ;)
Posted by SSJ3X on February 25, 2009 at 7:31 a.m. #15
*yawn* good thing I woke up lol.
@madMike, Look I'm not jealous, I even clearly wrote "well it's a record." Its just that with Guinness these days, you have to be there to witness it, and sometimes the credibility for these records just aren't appealing anymore considering anybody can do it, anywhere, at anytime without the GR people watching. Take that Guitar Hero 3 Song Through the Fire and Flames. The original record was about 870,000 pts, more or less. Not until recently a new record was put out at 974,000 pts, even though the guy who originally broke the record broke his own record, and this one before it with 987,000 pts.
I'm not taking anything from the guy, what he did is impressive. The most victories I've ever won straight online in SF IV was 43, theres no way I can do 108 considering the amount competitiveness that's there in full view. I just don't believe Guinness gaming records anymore, because in fighting games, you can put yourself up against anybody, who may know the game but not the knowledge an expert player has and have him wipe the floor with them.
I'd personally would rather have 1 good competitive match instead, but that's my opinion... Man I wrote too much lol.
Shoot! I'm late for schooL!

madMike:
Yes, yes, he has a record. That's very good for him and all. All I said was that it's more than likely his record was set against people that didn't particularly know what they were doing. I don't doubt that he's a good player; on the other hand, I don't doubt that someone else could easily set a higher record. It's really just kind of showing off.
Posted by bill on February 25, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. #17
yeah i agree with yflow hes probably a good player but doin 108 consecutive against pro players is more impressive than doin it against scrubs...
Posted by madMike on February 25, 2009 at 11:48 a.m. #18
What's the bet if Daigo had been going for something like this you'd all be kissing his arse and congratulating him. Bloody Shauns.

lol. uhh this 108 streak doesnt even crack top ten in japan.
guinness needs to check on their s**t.

@bill I don't think they're pro at SF4, in my opinion, as far as I know I saw some ST and 3s players played against Zak in Trocadero.. he is beatable but these players aren't used to Sf4, since it wasn't out in the west yet so consider himself lucky facing new SF4 players, Zak get to play SF4 waaaaaay before anyone in the UK.
Posted by Igotdembombs on February 25, 2009 at 1:27 p.m. #22
Another lame gaming record. If certain people tried, they could beat this record. For example, Justin Wong got over 50 victories in a row playing with Sakura. It was the second time Sakura was playable, the first being at the Tokyo Game Show. He just left after so many records.
No respect from me. Such a meaningless record.
Posted by jleadership@gmail.com on February 25, 2009 at 3:47 p.m. #23
@madmike -
I waited for you man what happened. My connection was good until 3:00 am.
With all due respect, this guy deserves props. But after going to the site that anon provided, he didn't even scratch the surface!
If you don't like it madmike challenge me and get it off your chest.(psn brookshomey). I am not that good ;)
Posted by meaningless on February 25, 2009 at 4:23 p.m. #24
meaningless !!! you got it
Posted by me on February 25, 2009 at 4:41 p.m. #25
Agreed. I was wondering if other pros were gonna show up and play or just give him the courtesy and let him have it. Like was said before- expecially if they were giving out a tv to the person who beat him, you're just gonna get anyone and their mom lining up. He may be a great player, but that's not what proves it. There's probably a lot of other people that wouldn't even have to be close to pro to do this too.
Posted by scen R on February 25, 2009 at 8:06 p.m. #26
anyone should beat this record ASAP! I think it's just not VALID! It's like a great boxer against some random ppl from the street with no exp in boxing. Just UNBALANCED.. It should be called : Guinness World Record for beating over a hundred unaware jerks!!
Posted by SSJ3X on February 25, 2009 at 9:45 p.m. #27
The site that Anon provided has just proved what I had said earlier this morning. While yes, once again, this is a world record in Guinness, it doesn't seem credible at all. Yeh you can argue he got 108 wins in a day, but c'mon, 357 wins? Against random people, and extremely skilled players? Thats ridiculous.
I was gonna write something else, but I think I'll end it there, until tomorrow, if this is still going on.

madmike:
You're pullng an argument out of your ass. No one even mentioned Daigo.
Posted by madMike on February 26, 2009 at 3:24 a.m. #29
My point is that you haters have not given one ounce of credit to someone who regardless of the record has given good publicity to the community and SF4, not just in London, but worldwide. I suspect that if Justin Wong and Daigo (I wonder why?) had gone for this record then this comments section wouldn't be plastered with ungrateful responses. I bet all of you responding wouldn't even have shown your face at the event to prove a point.
@brookshomey: Added. See you later.
Posted by yflow on February 26, 2009 at 5:10 a.m. #30
I think it's good that the Street Fighter community is getting publicity. I can put up with the millions of Kens I have to fight online that don't know what the hell they're doing and the constant traffic that keeps bringing down SRK's servers if it means that eventually Street Fighter will be much bigger.
But I don't think Zak Bennett is some god of Street Fighter because he took out 108 nobodies in some London mall. We get it, he got the record, and that's good for him, but who cares? What does it prove? What does it mean to anyone?
Posted by free on February 26, 2009 at 9:11 a.m. #31
in my opinion theres only two places in the world right now where any kind of streak holds any merit whatsoever.
those two places are Southern California and Japan.
Posted by madMike on February 26, 2009 at 10:55 a.m. #32
@yflow: Outside of SRK/NEO-EMPIRE etc. what does EVO, SvB or SBO mean to anyone? Squat. It is a nat in the overall competitive scene. Something like this - whilst a show boating record for those that earn it - is purely for those not into the scene. No one claimed he was a God, unfortunately you've taken it upon yourself - along with others - to hate on him for no reason whatsoever.
@free: Where are you from? I've already put a bet down.
Posted by yflow on February 26, 2009 at 11:04 a.m. #33
madMike:
I'm not hating on him. I already said he's probably good. All I was saying is that he was probably fighting people who really didn't know what they were doing. All I'm saying is that I don't think anyone really cares about dude's record.

@madmike
I'll be there
@Everyone
We all have work to do. We all have to step our games up.
Cali and jap has been out doing us for over a decade. Lets turn the tables and have some good old fashioned fun while we do it.
Lets not fight, put that energy into your game.
Posted by SSJ3X on February 26, 2009 at 12:11 p.m. #35
@jleadership
You're right. I got this game and other fighting games to get better against others and also to meet new players. I seldomly do tournaments but I got into the Gamestop Natl SFIV tournament to see if I can do well, and also meet gamers alike who live in my area since we have literally no good arcades around here.
Posted by Snow on February 26, 2009 at 2:47 p.m. #36
Well I mean, it's a record for beating so many people in one session, it's not a record for beating so many awesome people in one session, or so many scrubs in one session, just a lot of players in one session.
Zak is not a no-name player either, if it's the same kid that is Zakuta, didn't he place in Battle of Destiny to get sent to EVO with Ryan Hart?
Posted by Hiryu on February 26, 2009 at 4:06 p.m. #37
Zak and Zakuta are not the same person.
also, i think it should be mentioned that I dont think ppl are hating on his streak, but are hating on the fact that Guinness thinks that this is a record for most wins, when it obviously isnt. besides Japan, a local player in the SoCal scene (I believe it was Keno) got 110 wins with Balrog against good players just recently
Posted by Eggy on February 27, 2009 at 10:45 p.m. #38
I know it's completely different, but Justin Wong has a 124 match streak over on Gamebattles.com beating up on some scrubs. He hasn't dropped a game yet, has 260 straight wins.

I live in the UK and have watched Zak play... he's got mad skills man. Anyone who tries to downplay this achievement is just hating IMO. Lets see you get the win streak... even against scrubs I guarantee someone will come and beat the crap outta you before you even smell 20.
I'm not saying he's the best ever, but give him credit for the accomplishment.
